    Vegetarian Beynet Injera Wrap
    Lauren C.

Love ice n slice, everything on the menu is great and I like that they are open a bit later on the weekday and weekend for a late night bite. Finally getting around to writing a review. I recently had the vegetarian injera wrap and it was phenomenal! Super filling and I had leftovers. The veggies inside were fresh and tasty. Not pictured is the special green sauce that is available on the side. I believe the owners are the same from heat the spot (which also serves their special green sauce). Can't recommend this place enough!

Seriously the best pizza I've ever had! If you do one thing, GET THE ADDIS ABABA PIZZA! Dough is perfectly fluffy, and the flavor combination is truly revolutionary. Spicy honey sauce, green sauce, and hot tea provided on the side are incredible. The service here is also unmatched. They treat you like family.

Ethiopian fusion pizza is the sort of thing you'd really only find in DC. This place is prominent and distinctive. It appeared that only outdoor seating was available, which won't work for all conditions so you may need to be thinking takeout. They only offer pizzas in one size, and I had doubts whether the $30+ with tax and tip would be worthwhile. However, lugging this monstrosity of a pizza back to my car certainly convinced me that it was heavy enough. Notably, I ordered a pizza based on ful, which was listed without cheese and yet, as one can see by the accompanying picture, came with cheese on it. Since I am not a vegan and hate to waste food, I just took it, but for those actively trying to avoid dairy, you unfortunately would be well advised to make extra sure that your order is correct. However, I think the end result to be well worthwhile. I thought it might just be a plain pizza with fava beans replacing tomato sauce, but it in fact came with a variety of vegetables including mushrooms, peppers, and spinach. The fava beans make it even more filling than a normal pizza. It was flavorful by itself, but some extra sauces were included, one a sweet, spicy and sticky one, and the other mint-based. I used them for the crust. I deducted a star for service because of the lack of clarity in the menu and because of not quite getting what I thought I ordered, but if you are the sort of person who hears "Ethiopian fusion pizza" and thinks "I need to try this" (as opposed to "this is absurd"), then I commend you to this unique establishment.

    Half doro wot, half kitfo!

Can't say enough good things about the pizza here! The doro wot pizza especially is amazing. I went with two friends and 1 pizza was exactly the right amount for 3 people. Everyone who worked here was so friendly and checked in on us, made sure liked everything, etc.! My friend tried the ice cream, and the vanilla bean one was solid. The pistachio had a bit of an odd texture and more of an almond flavor. It's definitely pricey ($40 for a large pizza), but it was super unique and delicious - I'll come back to try more flavors for sure. They have a huge menu and I'm looking forward to trying more of it. I just wish they sold some by the slice so I could sample a bunch of flavors at once, but that probably just means I need to come in a larger group. I definitely recommend coming here!

Okay yes. On my way to what I thought was my last dodgeball game (long story), I knew that once it ended that Ice N Slice would be closed, so I decided to head into town a little early and finally try them out. It was not a long walk from the metro -- maybe 5 minutes. You can see a sign right on the corner of Georgia Ave, but you have to walk around to the main entrance. So you order outside, and there are a bunch of tables and menus to look at. There they were... big pictures of the Ethiopian pizzas I so wanted to try. Given the name, I was hoping I would be able to grab pizza by the slice, but I was limited to whole ones... but YOLO! After hearing the descriptions of each one from the lovely staff, I decided to get half Addis Ababa (veggie) and half spicy beef. It was ready in about 15 minutes and I couldn't help but take a slice as soon as I got the box. So I opened it, it was PIPING hot. And I was surprised to see small ramekins inside the box... there was honey and a green sauce (not sure what it was, I didn't ask... but it was yummy). The spicy beef was really REALLY spicy. I was quite pleased, but whew it is definitely not for the faint of heart! Once I got to my other destination I tried the veggie, which was a nice cooler option... but the flavor of the lentils, chickpeas, spinach and more really set it off! I kind of expected the crust to have some wild injera spin on it, but it was just a standard crust -- it was still delicious, don't get me wrong! This was definitely a novelty pizza that I would gladly have again. I'd love to try their ice cream flavors and other options on the menu as well! Ethiopian wraps sound like a winner too. I'll be back!

    1/2 Doro Wat, 1/2 Merkato
    Ry L.

I absolutely adore unique finds, and this is definitely a gem in its own right. Ethiopian pizza? Say no more!! I couldn't choose between Doro Wat and Merkato, so I got half and half. Neither one disappointed! It's the best pizza I've had in awhile. Even the crust is unique, and you're gonna want some more of that green sauce, so gon'head and get yourself a lil' extra. That's all I'm gonna say about it because everyone needs to try how incredible it is for themselves. It's a walk-up and order type of establishment with outdoor seating. They were so unbelievably kind and accommodating, too! It was raining the day I went (September 9, 2023), so they let me wait inside and sip some hot tea. Good food, good people - who could ask for more? Their menu is quite overwhelming in the best way possible, so I can't wait to return and try their other menu items.

    Addis Ababa Vegetarian Pizza

"I think this might be my death row meal." - my friend as soon as she tasted the food Got the Addis Ababa pizza and it was delectable. Don't forget about the fries. Incredible. Pro tip: use both sauces

Wow. Outdoor cafe vibe with some of the best food I've ever had. Possibly family-run place with helpful, friendly staff. We went for the veg sambosa and Addis Ababa pizza with the special green sauce. This would be a regular place for us if we lived in the area.

Came by on a whim and ended up having a great lunch. They are located conveniently on Georgia avenue. Ordered the letigab pizza it has ground beef, feta and spinach. The crust is thin and the pizza came out HOT! y'all. This pizza was so good! They have a secret sauce that's a little spicy as well as honey for drizzle. So delicious! We can't wait to come back. To try a different pizza and some ice cream The staff is so friendly and attentive. Outside seating only. There are umbrellas for shade and many seats and tables. Parking can be tricky!

I got takeout from Ice N Slice and was blown away by how amazing the pizza tasted. We ordered the Addis Ababa Vegetarian Pizza and it was so delicious! I have always loved Ethiopian food and DC had some of the best Ethiopian food and this was no exception. I loved the concept of Ethiopian pizza, the curries on the pizza tasted so good and the dipping sauces provided on the side were so delicious as well. For two people, one pizza is more than enough the portion size is so big that we even had plenty of leftovers. I would highly recommend this place to all my friends and will definitely order this again.

I honestly didn't realize Uber Eats could deliver high-end ice cream--that is dangerous knowledge for an aficionado with limited self-control. I usually have a strict "Fridays only" rule to self-impose some restraint, but those rules go out the window during recovery. (A quick note: the surgery was nothing serious--just finally fixing a skiing failure from Breckenridge back in February.) To give some context on my palate: 6 out of 10 times, I'm ordering vanilla. I resent when people call it "plain vanilla"--vanilla done right is a complex, detailed flavor all on its own. 2 out of 10 times, I'm ordering something with peanut butter (ever since E.T. 'phoned home', I've had a Reese's problem). For the final 2 out of 10, I'll be adventurous with fruit or something unique. I didn't have much prior knowledge of Greek ice cream traditions, so I did some digging. Traditional Greek ice cream (Kaimaki) is often chewy and elastic, but Yala takes a modern approach for DC. They've hit a "middle ground" texture--creamy like American ice cream but light like gelato. They use A2 dairy from South Mountain Creamery, which makes it incredibly smooth and much easier to digest. After a few days of sampling, Yala is firmly within my ice cream pantheon and established on my "Mount Rushmore" alongside Adrian's Custard in Wisconsin and Oberweis in Chicago. I did my tastings "blind"--meaning I looked at it, but I did not read the foundational ingredients before eating and reviewing. Here are the reviews for the four flavors: Mornings with Thea (Orange Label) My daughter led the charge here, describing it as a "tropical orange cream" that felt like a "wave of summer" with a sophisticated, creamy "winter undertone." My own take was that it tasted like a bougie, orange creamcicle, but with incredible orange chunks. I thought it was candied orange zest, which was new to me and amazing, I also thought I caught hints of peach layered in. I later learned these are traditional Greek orange preserves (spoon sweets) swirled into a yogurt and vanilla base. Yia Mas (Pink Label) I'll be honest: I don't even like cherries, and I first thought these were raspberries. But this was fantastic. It has tart wild cherries swirled into a Greek yogurt and vanilla base. The fruit is succulent and pops against the creamy background. American Dream (Brown Label) A blend of "Papou's Promise" vanilla and "Choco-Yala" chocolate. The chocolate pieces are crisp and have a nice crunch, providing a perfect structural contrast to the smooth vanilla. Mint Chip Mou (Green Label) I've always thought of mint chip as a holiday flavor, but this version felt perfect for March. The color is a soft, spring-like green--not an artificial iridescent glow. When first scooped, the aroma pops into the air, similar to the zest of a a ripe, juicy tangerine when you peel it (the effect, not the the flavor or smell). The mint is light and dreamy rather than a full frontal assault, and the small chocolate pieces are a compliment, not a competitor, providing a nice lingering aftertaste. I was floored to find out that "spring" color comes naturally from spinach! The common thread across all these flavors is that they are well-blended, yet the components stand out independently in the profile. It is a masterpiece of textures and tones; the chocolate or the fruit isn't "mushed" into the ice cream but exists as a separate, wonderful experience floating in an ice cream or yogurt environment. I resisted the Yelp urge to rank these against each other, there were no disappointments. Obviously, Papou's Promise vanilla tops my hit list for next to try, I want to compare Greek Blue Summer against my favorite blueberry pie ice cream from Oberweis, and I'd would love to sample anything peanut butter related if they put something out as a seasonal special! A huge thanks again to my kind friend for the recovery fuel. I'm already planning to organize future ice cream socials here for friends and colleagues once I'm back on my feet.
