I really love Ice Cream Social and it is my choice for ice cream in the area. The thing that really keeps me coming back is the innovative flavors. My go to is mint chocolate chip with hot fudge but this last time, I went with peppermint hot cocoa. It had mini marshmallows in it and was nice and chocolaty. The peppermint was very subtle and the peppermint pieces gave it a nice little crunch. My husband had a mix of Valhalla coffee and pumpkin pie and said it tasted just like a pumpkin spice latte. The portions are also very generous and a regular is the most I can eat. They also allow people to choose 2 different flavors in one cup which is great when you can't make up your mind. Waffles are fresh and crisp, the flavors we got were legit, and the portions weren't skimpy. You're going to pay more than you would at some places, but I think it's worth it. The only drawback is that they aren't doing samples. Even Costco is doing samples again, so I do not believe Covid is the reason. It's just the excuse. Everyone knows whether or not they like rocky road. But lavender? Matcha? It would be nice to try an unusual flavor before you commit to it. There is always a bit of a wait here; the line goes far out the door. Super huge portions here! I got a single scoop and it was the equivalent of 2-3 scoops elsewhere. You can choose 2 flavors for a single scoop. They make fresh waffle cones continually, which are amazing. I usually don't enjoy cones, but totally worth the extra $1.00! All the ice cream is hand crafted in store. I tried salted caramel and cookies and cream. The cookies and cream is jam packed with "Oreos". We were in the area on a Sunday afternoon and we saw this place on the corner and decided to stop by. We waited quite a while in line but it was worth it in the end! Flavors we tried: honey bourbon,cookies and cream, lavender, salted caramel. Honey bourbon was my favorite as it was sweet but had some hints of bourbon in it. I just love the location of the shop! You can grab some ice cream and take a stroll along Ruston waterfront on a sunny Tacoma day. Not to mention, there's a few other restaurants around the area that you can grab food and drinks at, and cute boutiques, as well as a movie theater. Ice Cream Social has a good selection of ice cream flavors and they make their own waffle cones which were delicious, but I think, maybe, they should make smaller sized waffle cones for people who order a single scoop. Let's be honest, ice cream is great anytime of the year. They do have dairy free options for the lactose intolerant so no worries! Basically the Molly Moon's of Tacoma, I think even better. It's the the best spot to get ice cream if you don't want to travel to Seattle for local and quality ice cream. Keep in mind they are also located on Ruston next to the waterfront so you can take a nice walk and enjoy your ice cream. Also, I love the Valhalla Coffee flavor. A local Tacoma favorite! This place gets packed during the the summer time, but totally worth the wait! Homemade ice cream with love and many flavors to choose from! I keep on coming back because of the great ice cream quality, great customer service, and because I support my local businesses! We ordered spicy chocolate, roasted banana, coconut chocolate chip and they were fine. I did not like almond poppy seeds- as it tasted liquorish and I do not like that. I have heard that Ice Cream Social is SO amazing and my family (total of 8 and 2 toddlers) were so excited to finally try it. It wasn't busy when we walked in and the guy up front visably groaned at our arrival. The guy yelled next a couple times so we felt rushed. I told him we had never been in before and he responded with a blank expression (lol). I am lactose intolerant and was so excited to see other options - I got a coconut flavor which again was received with a visable eye roll and told me not to spill! Another guy who ended up ringing out our family said it was because it falls apart easily and he gave me a cup. He was a delight. About two minutes later, my niece spilled her ice cream and the original scooper guy just hung his head so dramatically. I even cleaned it all up! Obviously this dude wasn't having a great day, but I don't believe we will be back after that. Okay so today was my very first visit. Firstly the line was pretty long and slow moving with 3 people working there I didn't expect to be standing there for over 75 mins but regardless the employees were super nice and my ice cream was INCREDIBLE, I got the Lemon blueberry swirl a flavor I haven't had this good since I was 7 years old living in Germany. I guess "Social" stands for co-workers talking with one another instead of giving good customer service, because whenever I have gone in there, there's 3 or 4 immature high school age kids gossiping, hardly aware that I walked in. The ice cream is good, (although certainly not worth the 8 dollars for a double scoop), and sometimes the tables haven't been wiped because the workers are too busy being "social." This reminds me a lot of the ice cream place in my hometown, which also provided jobs to high school kids. First time trying Ice cream social. Have heard of it, read reviews from Tacoma location and seen this one here, while visiting Ruston point. Was excited to try it. Since it's homemade ice cream. Got to the front, ordered one ice cream at at time. Flavors were : cookies And cream, chocolate (the guy gave us the wrong one ; on accident at first) Mint chocolate chip, raspberry lemon? I think sorbet and buttered pecan. I took a little taste of all the flavors my kids got. It was good. Nothing crazy AMAZING, but good. I will say the cookies and cream was Delish. I could taste the difference in it vs store bought or other ice cream places. There weren't other flavors that seemed to scream "try me". I read the flavors others have tried, but they didn't have them. Bummer. Maybe next time. The servers were friendly and helped when a mistake was made. Fixed it no problem.
