There's always a live at this place which is a sure sign that it's good! Fret not though, the line goes pretty quick and you're enveloped in the delicious smells of fresh waffle cones being made. They have some really uniquely delicious flavors and on busy days they'll have someone with a cool sharing flavor sample to the folks in line to help you make up your mind before you reach the counter. read more

Ice Cream Social - Ruston - a closeup of a metal table - Desserts Near Me - Ruston, Washington

I think this place was way overhyped for me because I didn't feel that it was anything special, but then again I've had some really epic ice cream adventures in Southern California (where I'm from). Pros: Really awesome location to grab ice cream and take a stroll (especially during WA's beautiful summers!) because its right by the water. The line was out the door, but it moved quickly and we were at the very front before we knew it. Scoops were also very generous and the staff were really nice in letting me sample flavors before I decided to commit to one. Cons: I was expecting some really interesting ice cream flavors, but they were pretty standard to me. I opted for lavender because I love lavender everything and will basically get it no matter where I go. The flavor wasn't as fragrant as some that I've had before, and the ice cream itself wasn't as creamy as some places I've tried. But given the huge scoop and price point, it wasn't terrible. Overall, I think it was a pretty average ice cream spot and I would totally get it again if I'm in the area, but it's not something my tastebuds will be screaming for. read more

Great ice cream spot at Ruston Point! You know this place gets busy when they have a roped line and a mini tent as you wait in line. As soon as you walk in you can smell the delicious waffles cones. They have a lot of unique flavors. I had chocolate, not too sweet, but hit the spot read more

Ice Cream Social (ICS) Ruston produces nothing but classics.. 1st it was Stack 571, now u have ICS Yeah, it's been opened a couple of yrs. now I finally tried it I must say this is the best ice cream place I've been 2.. I mean the cone is solid, they make it fresh themselves n the ice cream is very premium where when I had a single scoop, it was able 2 fill all the way down the cone without having the drippy mess since the cone was made solid this is 1 of those places where their smell leads u inside.. I mean their wafer cone smells so good very good g double o d read more

A place with impatient staff and bad service. I wouldn't bother standing in a long line for expensive mediocre ice cream.

My family and I come here pretty often. It's our favorite ice cream shop to come to when we're in the area! We stopped by on a Wednesday evening. We thought they had already been closed but they're open until pretty late - which is nice! It definitely wasn't busy at all, considering we did come on a weekday but on the weekends, the line snakes out the door but it's worth it! * It's very clean inside. * Some cute merchandise but are pretty pricey. * They even have a mini fridge of pints to go! * Seating inside and outside The employees are kind. Very welcoming! I never had an issue with one. Their ice cream is handcrafted and all natural which makes is so so soooooo good and they even make their own cones! Really cool. The reason I'm giving this place only 3 stars is because they have absolutely NO baby changing station in their bathrooms. NONE! I was so desperate to change my baby at the moment I was there, find no changing table, and just set a blanket on the floor with my changing pad on top and did it right there. It was ridiculous!!!!!! I was furious. This is an ice cream shop. Families with babies are in and out of here. How do you not put a baby changing station in the bathrooms? And although the outside is a gorgeous spot to sit and have your ice cream, well people leave messes and unfortunately don't clean up after themselves but neither do the employees. They should have someone going out cleaning the tables, wiping it down, sweeping the crap off the floor ever hour or so. I understand it gets busy but keep your shop clean!!!!!!! I don't want to sit at the only available table with cone crumbs under and on top of the table with ice cream splotches. It's ridiculous. read more

No pictures...because after waiting in line in the hot sun, we can't wait to eat! Third time I've been to the ruston location. Besides the wait(15 mins+), our ice cream is always delicious! New flavors every month, fun non dairy kinds and unique blends. we have loved each time, worth the wait. read more

Delicious! Long line even though cold out. Worth it. Most of my family got the roasted banana. My sister got the salted caramel and even though I enjoyed the almond poppyseed, I'll be getting the salted caramel next time. The place smells delicious since they are making the cones there. The kids cone comes with sprinkles if you want some and my son loves though was a little too much for him. The place is so nice to walk around d too after getting a cone. read more

Located in Point Ruston, Ice Cream Social is a nice addition to the area, offering ice cream made with fresh local ingredients. It's a great stop after visiting the Ruston Waterfront, Spray Park, or Point Defiance. Ice Cream Social has both indoor and outdoor seating, or you can enjoy your treat while walking along the waterfront. Recommendations: 1) Valhalla Coffee flavor is great for coffee lovers. 2) Coconut Chocolate Chip, made with coconut milk instead of dairy. The scoops are HUGE, and definitely get the freshly made waffle cone. read more

Love, love, love this place! Definitely worth the long line in the summer sun. Went after an early dinner on a Sunday so most likely an "as busy as it gets" type situation. The line was beginning to round the corner of their block when we got in line. It was not fast either. Also by that time of day, they were already out of a bunch of the fun seasonal flavors. They have a really good mix of traditional and new ice cream flavors. If you are adventurous, this is definitely the place to try out a new flavor you've never heard of or maybe wouldn't think of. The majority of my family got the roasted banana that day and it did not disappoint. And to be honest, if it weren't for the unique flavors (and that there were at least a few still available), I think it wouldn't be as much of a stand out experience for me. The waffle cones are made fresh and they were maybe my favorite waffle cones...ever. read more

We visited this shop as part of a Yelp event. The line was long but moved quickly. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have a good variety of flavors and types of frozen desserts. I had the honeydew mint sorbet and enjoyed it. My husband had the Carmel sundae and it too was delicious. There is seating both indoors and outside. I give this shop a two thumbs up. I really liked the sign they had posted outside along the waiting area. They practice IceCream Social Distancing. read more

We dropped by Ice Cream Social while exploring the new(er) Ruston Way waterfront. Parking was confusing - I think the first hour is free, but to cover ourselves, we used their automated system to input our plate and guarantee it. Ordered a scoop of mint chip and coffee flavor in a waffle cone. It was all just OK. Service was fine but prices were a bit high. For our weekday visit, there was no line as others have noted. One of the better options for some fun food and drink in the Point Ruston megalopolis. read more

I had a mediocre ice cream experience at a different Tacoma location (dirty, ice cream was sub par, and the staff didn't give much attention), but I'm so glad that I gave ice cream social another try because MAN, it's good. The staff here was super friendly. Every flavor we tried was creamy and delicious and the variety of choices is broad but not overwhelming. Seriously considered going back for a second cone because there were multiple flavors I really enjoyed. They also claim to use all-natural, locally sourced ingredients which is pretty rad. read more

Honey pistachio ice cream is so good. The employee was generous with giving is more than one sample. They were plentiful too, just as good as those free frozen yogurt samples. I usually come here after dining at one of the restaurants at point Ruston. This is a great place when I have a sweet tooth, they had a good variety of flavors, but my favorites are strawberry (normal ice cream and sorbet), lemon sorbet, and mojito. I usually get it on their freshly made waffle cone, and you can do half-half to get two flavors but pay for one big scoop. Service is always fast, and if you like their usual flavors they have them for sale in the freezer next to the entrance. read more

The line was long as hell but worth the wait. Got myself a double scoop of ice cream with 2 different flavors. Salted chocolate and Butter Pecan. It was a nice day to get ice cream too. Yum yum. I usually go for lavender ice cream where ever I can find it, but this time I saw lemon gingersnap and decided to try something new. On such a warm day, the lemon was definitely refreshing and soft cookie-like chunks were very satisfying. The cone tasted good as well. This place gets pretty busy on sunny days and parking can be hard to find, but that is to be expected being located right next to the water read more

There was a small line extending outside its door but it move fast. Had a single scoop of ice cream in a freshly baked waffle cone ($1 extra). They let you choose up to two flavors for the single scoop so I went with lavender and almond poppyseed (dairy free). Both were delicious, and I especially enjoyed the almond poppyseed as it was unique ice cream flavor I've never had before. They give generous scoops so you can share it between two people. The ice cream is on the softer side so on a hot day you may want to opt for a cup instead of a cone if you want to take your ice cream to go down to the waterfront. read more

Gotta love the smell of freshly cooked waffle cones and that's what hits you when you walk in the door. We went on a sunny afternoon when half of Tacoma decided they wanted ice cream. That said the two young people working the counter were cheerful and helpful, not minding how many taste spoons you asked for. They have a few tried and true flavors that are always available, such as chocolate, cookies and cream and others you'd expect to find. They also have a few daily specials that seem a bit strange like cranberry orange, or chai tea but surprisingly tasted really good. We opted for the tried and true, cookies and cream and mint chocolate chip which was surprisingly not green but vanilla color. Both had amazing flavor and a true creamy texture. Best ice cream I've had from a store in a long time. read more

This is the second location that Ice Cream Social has in Tacoma. They first started off selling their ice cream at at farmers markets then their original location on 6th opened up. I live close by to that shop and knew it was going to open. Their popularity took off very fast and in the summer the lines were often very long. It was almost always worth the wait... it just depended how much patience I had at the time. This new location is also extremely popular. The development it is in, the Ruston development is also very popular with it's view of Puget Sound, walking paths, movie theater and a variety of places to eat. I was by this location last summer and the line was out the door and down the sidewalk. It was insane but I am so very happy to see the shops do well. I used to see the owner every once in a while in different places and she is so nice! I decided to bide my time and come to this location when summer has passed and lines would be pretty small. I went here after seeing The Last Jedi at the nearby theater and the line was much more tolerable. The ice cream is still delicious as ever! I got a peanut butter with honey flavored ice cream and simply loved it and Steve got a cardamon ice cream which was very good as well. Ice Cream Social is one of my favorite ice cream shops. The flavors are unique and the waffle cones and ice cream I can tell are made with some real TLC. read more

If the sun is shining, you can expect a line out the door here! High quality, handmade ice cream with flavors for mature palettes and the fun sugary sweet pallets too! The Ice Cream Social is the place to be for unique ice cream flavors, big servings and great prices! I'm always excited to sample their rotating flavors before I make a decision... however I always seem to end up with a half scoop of vanilla and half scoop of salted Caramel on a waffle cone. Btw, when I say half scoop, it's bigger than a regular scoop. We are talking big servings here. But the thing is it's so delicious you don't get sick of it. Enjoy every single bite of their sweet delicious goodness! Another note is that it's so cute inside! Love the local art they sell. Some of the flavors here are bizarre but I appreciate the selection offered. I did try some corn and black pepper ice cream.... lol, that was new. I ended up with a praline. The place is cute, clean, and has a friendly atmosphere. It's great for a small gathering; in and out. The location is good too; especially since it's right there in the middle of Ruston. Lots of parking available in the garage too. Would highly recommend this place, or the location in Tacoma. read more

Underwhelmed. 4 singles with two cones for $28. We tried Chocolate peanut butter, Earl grey, cookies & cream, mint-chocolate chip, roasted banana & Valhalla coffee. A lot of interesting flavors and very friendly staff. The first time I came here was a very hot summer day and the line was literally out the day. I was hot and sweaty, so I was definitely ready for some ice cream. I tried the coconut chocolate chip and it was pretty good. But I'm not sure if it was gelato or some special kind of ice cream because it wasn't as creamy as my cousin's flavor that she got, which was mint chocolate chip.
