Another busy I-tea! This place is always a little bit challenging to find parking. Tried the new creme brûlée tapioca milk tea drink and it didn't disappoint! You get a spoon and Instructions to eat the top. Then to stir the rest into the cup! The creme brûlée top was a thin layer of nicely burnt sugar. Tea taste was a little light. The creme underneath was creamy and delicious, although I do prefer a more eggy taste. Mango sago was delicious as always! Not too sweet and a nice mango taste with soft pearls! Confusing experience at iTea. On one hand, their creme brulee drink was delicious with the layer of torched sugar and creme mixing with the tea below wonderfully. I understand them being busy but it seemed a bit unorganized and I also don't think that call in orders should take priority over walk ins or have an alternative solution for walk ins that don't want to call ahead. I've had the panda milk tea here, brown sugar milk tea and a regular jasmine milk tea. I like that you can customize the ice and sugar amount which you can at most other boba spots as well. We aren't from the area but met up a family member here to exchange Christmas gifts during lockdown. I-tea is in a cute shopping center that reminds me of the Sunnyvale town center. They have a free small mom and pop-looking restaurant as well as a Baskin Robbins. We arrived pretty close to opening time on a Sunday so there was plenty of parking. My SIL asked what we wanted so our order was already waiting when we got there. There was no line when she ordered but a small line started to form about an hour after opening. My husband and I ordered a white peach tea, chrysanthemum tea and an order of popcorn chicken. Peach tea at 50% sugar was ok. Not the best but not horrible. It was still a little on the sweet side for me. Chrysanthemum at 30% sugar was good according to my husband because he downed it pretty quickly. Popcorn chicken was a little disappointing. It looked good in other people's pictures but we felt it was lacking flavor. We had to go ask for the spice because it didn't come on it and wasn't offered. After adding the spice, it was a little better but I've had better. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside but bland tasting overall. I think it wasn't seasoned well. Now, I was expecting I-tea to be focused on teas and not so much on the savory dishes, but I would have to say I was quite pleased with the experience. Was the food the niku udon I know, no. The niku udon tasted more like gyu-don (beef and onions cooked and marinated in mirin sauce) with udon noodles. Was it good, yes. The portions were great for lunch, but if I were to order this with the tea, I think I would have been really full. Same went with the tempura udon. What we got was "ebi-furai" version of shrimp, which the cooking style is not tempura, but the overall udon dish was pretty delicious. Why you may ask? ...They have a killer Happy Hour menu late night featuring discounted drinks and $3.75 select appetizers. What a deal! My friends and I try to make it out here at least once when I'm in town. i-Tea is a chain so there are a few locations in the Bay, but this one in particular is close to downtown and offers discounts at night. I usually get their popcorn chicken which is seasoned and stir-fried with basil, and their Taiwanese tempura which are essentially fish cakes that have been lightly battered and fried. Boba wise, they are doing something good with their larger-than-normal portion sizes and different types of drinks. They offer sago which not a lot of boba shops will offer so prioritize on items that you can't normally get elsewhere. Prices for each drink hovers around $4. There's a reason why there's always a line here especially on weekends. It's one of the better I-tea locations around. Drinks are pretty good and they have a wide snack and food selection as well. What sets it apart for me is that the food is done way better than some other I-tea locations (Pleasanton is horrible). The staff is also very attentive. I just wish parking was easier at peak hours. I've attached two photos of "seasoned calamari" from this location and the Pleasanton location. The Pleasanton locations is colorless, soggy, flavorless, and tastes like your baby brother fumbled with a broken microwave. If you are planning to go through quickly around noon I recommend you plan ahead because there will be a line and limited seating. If you are lucky and place your order online then your pick up will be on the right hand side and you do not need to wait in the regular line. Once you arrive just politely ask if the folks are waiting to order or picking up. If you are waiting in line plan to speak up vecause between the machine mixing drinks and people chatting the poor order staff member will not be able to hear you. After ordering, our drinks were made fairly quickly. We ordered a Jasmine milk tea with agar boba, fresh fruit tea, and the taro milk tea with boba. Even though we adjust sugar level to 30%, the teas were still fairly sweet. FYI, the fruit tea can only be reduced to 80%. The boba texture was soft. You have caffeine options and non-caffeine. When in season try the watermelon sago and mango sago drinks available during the summer. Then there are the drinks with the set amount of "ice" which can lead to brain freeze if you are not careful, but with this heat, you need a break. I have eaten the ramen here, and I am a fan of the Tonkotsu and black garlic oil ramen. The tonkotsu has a hearty broth and rich flavor, and the black garlic oil has a fantastic taste. The slices of pork and vegetables are enough to make this a dinner. After all the hype, I had to try it here with my family. This is located in downtown San Leandro. I would park in the parking lot of Safeways as where i-Tea is located, it's always crowded. Mango Crystal, Mango Sago and Strawberry Crystal were very good. Very filling and had lots of fruit and ingredients. I only wish they had different sizes. They only have one size and it's like a meal in itself! We tried their miso ramen, pork over rice (tastes like with teriyaki sauce) and basil popcorn chicken. Out of the three, the best was their pork over rice. The miso ramen lacked flavor especially, the pork slices. I had to add saracha and their spices in containers. The basil popcorn chicken was deep fried just right but since they used chicken breast, it lacked flavor. I wish they offered spice levels. The restaurant was actually big and offers lots of seats and AC on hot days for their customers. The staff gave good customer service especially, when we had orders of more then eight items. They serve the hot foods to our tables. Everything we ordered was correct. I would come back and try the other food items but the drinks are great for the quantity, size and price.
