We rented a 15' 4 passengers boat that sank on 3 people of around 180 lb weight. We paid $150 for 1 hour and we barely sailed for 10 minutes before it sank. They did not refund even when the boat had a check engine light on from the beginning, they told us "we did not sink the boat, we won't charge for sinking the boat. we don't refund", their only concern was water in the boat engine!!! Less than professional service and dangerous! Our 7 year old was in the middle of a 3 person waverunner and it was very rough. We had all we could do to hold on and stay with the group. There was just one guide who said to use hand signals if we had trouble but he was miles ahead of us and would never know if we fell off! Should be a guide in front and another in back of the pack. We were going 52 - 54 mph and could barely keep up with the guide. We stopped once for the guide to jump off and "swim" but we are pretty sure he just needed to pee. Next we stopped at a sand bar. No narration at all and we were so far out in the ocean the Southernmost Point looked like it was 2 inches tall..could barely see it. The guide went way too fast for the group. BTW, we have a boat and live in FL...we know the waters...this was not safe! DO NOT DO THIS ONE! read more

Had an excellent experience. Rented a 4 person electric car for 3 hrs at $90. They gave us an extra hour for free once we signed up. Very nice people all around. Will shuttle you from your cruise ship to their business. The car was clean and ran well. Could take it anywhere a normal car would go. Plus you could park it in smaller spaces than a normal car, which is a bonus in key west. Would definitely do business with them again. read more

A pretty basic tour around the island. But don't kid yourself, the waters can be very rough. I'm an older guy, but in very good shape, and every muscle in my body was sore from banging waves and swells, and holding on. Some of the water is smooth and nice to ride, but don't think that this is like jetskiing a lake or river. One woman bounced off the back, she was okay though. I think a passenger on this tour would have a tougher time than the driver because the driver can see what's coming. They really never warn you about how rough the waters can get in spots, especially the ocean side. By the time you finish, you're ready. I will add that our guide (originally from Wilkes-Barre) was a good guy! read more

Walked up to the counter with my hubby only to be greeted by turned backs. When we said hello they continued to ignore us like we didn't matter. I told my hubs fuk this lets go. Since we stayed directly above the rentals we had the opportunity of watching the skis launch out. We saw the instructors yelling at people and speeding the tours directly through boat traffic which is highly dangerous. Saw a couple falls and wipeouts too. The tour only took you around a little island and back. I would highly recommend Hurricane Hole's jet ski rentals the customer service was warm and you could rent canoes and paddle boards we saw nurse sharks and star fish galore! You can make a day of it and they have a fresh catch restaraunt where you can get 10% off your meal when you partake in the activities. It's also an active fish charter rental place too so you can walk over and watch the anglers and captain cleaning fish and feeding a pool of tarpons. It was so amazing we went everyday on our trip! read more

We found ourselves in need of car(t) for the day. Our concierge recommended a couple of services and after a couple of calls we settled on HydroThunder. I have to say that the service provided by Jay was great. He was very personable. He took the time to explain all the paperwork. We were going to rent an electric, thankfully Jay asked about our usage and steered us to the gas. Just what we needed to do our own island tour. Last week while on vacation in the Key West and Islamorada area, we had the pleasure of taking two separate waverunner tours with Hydrothunder. The tour guides we followed during the waverunner tours were very professional and very knowledgable of Key West's history, all of the sandbars and the appropriate routes to take around mangroves and the immense wildlife that South Florida has to offer. The tour guide in the Islamorada area offered to mount a GoPro camera for our daughter so that she could record the entire trip. The tour guides asked us what pace we would like to go prior to the tour to gain an idea of how fast or slow we wanted to go. We were also given a window of suggested MPH, and even asked if we wanted a more low key smooth path or a path that is a little more challenging. We were also told the truth about how choppy waters would or would not be prior to the tour. With those experiences, we have to say that the customer service we personally received was top notch. We lucked out on a day that was absolutely perfect for a smooth sailing tour. In Key West, we also rented an electric car through this company. Their kiosk was located right outside of the Hyatt hotel in the heart of the Duvall St. action, and the gentleman who helped us (I cannot recall his name) was extremely helpful. Noticing we had a small infant with us, he was proactive in finding us a car large enough to seat 5 adults and room for a safe and sturdy car seat in which we were comfortable putting our baby. The experience we had with Hydrothunder tours comes highly recommended the next time you are in the Keys. read more

The jet skis were almost new and ran very well. The guide seemed very nice until we got on the water and he took off doing 45 mph across the water leaving almost everyone behind. I had to stop many times so the rest of the group could catch up, then I was so far behind I couldn't see where the guide went. He had to come back for us. He took us so far out away from the island we couldn't even get any pictures. We went to a sand bar for 5 minutes then we headed back. We didn't even go half way around the island. It was more like a sprint around than a tour of the island. I would not recommend this tour, unless you just want to see how fast you can go on a jet ski. read more

What a rush! We just finished a 1 1/2 ride in a jet ski around the island of Key West and had an absolute blast. Jo Jo was a our guide and was great. The tour went around the whole island and was really interesting. But going 45+ mph was the best part of the tour! We went full throttle on the jet skis and got to cover a lot of ground. Highly advise NOT to rent scooters from Hydro Thunder. Had a group of 8 friends rent them to travel around Key West and upon return one member of our party was falsely accused of dropping and damaging the scooter during the check in process. They thoroughly inspected the scooters which is understandable; however they did NOT go thru this process with us when we checked them out. Granted we should've done this ourselves but as tourists we were ecstatic and ready to go explore Key West and did not think of this. Should you decide to rent from them, DO YOUR OWN INSPECTION AND HAVE IT DOCUMENTED. Make sure already existing damage is marked with a "black dot"....but from my personal experience just go elsewhere. There are MANY OTHER places to rent scooters from! read more

DO NOT,.. I REPEAT DO NOT go on this tour if you are a novice jet skier! The tour guide at 1 point was doing 70 miles and hour. We could not keep up. He didn't even seam to care that he had lost us in the ocean. We were trying to navigate our way back in rough seas and shipping lanes with no guide to help. At 1 point he stopped to tell "the group" how were were going to park the skis when we got back and that it was going to get rougher (I don't know how that was possible as it was already awful) but that he would take it slow. Take it slow,... with in 2 minutes we couldn't even see him anymore. There actually were more than a couple of times we couldn't even see him at all. This was NOT what I expected. If you are a speed lover and thrill seeker this is the tour for you. If not stay away far, far away! This was by far the worst tour I have ever taken in my life. We had a group of 4 of Us on two skis. We were very happy! We were given instructions before we started, then drove about a mile out stopped and asked if we were ok or if we didn't feel comfortable there was another with us that would take us back. Fun trip. It was only a 4 person group with two wave runners. Jim at the front desk was pleasant and friendly. Jude our tour guide was awesome. Water a little choppy on the second leg but otherwise a great time. I wouldn't want to do this with any more than 4 or so wave runners in the group because the spacing and waiting required. read more

Shuttle didnt come for an hour and a half and even then there was no apology or discount offered ((( everyone was very root and "too cool for the school", prices has too be the highest on the island.... If your looking for a nice leisure ride, this is not the place to look, I agree with another reviewer, it's a race around the island. And if your on the back... Hold on for dear life! You both will have sore muscles when your done. The biggest caution I want to express is check your weather before you go, if storms are coming, consider postponing your trip, this company took us out with no check of the weather, and when an approaching storm started moving in the guide rode us right into it. Thunder, lightning, and pelting rain, the guide didn't care about anyone's safety! Out of a two hour ride we stopped about 4 times, with no swim or fun, mostly due to the storms, at one point we beached the jet sky, and the guides did nothing to help, but yell at us, and told my husband to get off and push and swim to get back on, not easy to do with a rider still on the ski! Needless to say worst trip ever.... Won't do that again! read more

If less than a star is a rate that's what they deserve. Rude people, not personal, doesn't explain the rules or the routes. Awful service, if you looking to have a good time DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE. We were referred by FURY to these guys and we regret so badly. They are making FURY look very bad. This guys rent you a boat without any effort to make your day happy and enjoyable, and I believe they have funny business going on because they always find a reason to charge you more. The boat just suddenly stopped on our hands, so we had to call them to for help, the worst part it was, I had my one year old daughter with us and I had to wait by sea until my husband was towed back to their place by the boat's owner with his jet ski, and by then we found out the boat wasn't theirs. They had charged my credit card already. My husband was furious because he didn't speak English very well and he felt betrayed by them, they didn't explain what kind of damaged was in the boat, so we don't even know if was caused by us. The entire staff was rude...We made a reservation too... $20 deposit per jet ski...then the next day he told us to sign four contracts, a 3 page contract and initial every section...rude and in a hurry. I had no time to read what I was signing and I told him. He said he didn't ask me to read it, in a sarcastic tone. I should have stopped signing that contract, but I wanted to go on the wave runner, because my son was asking me, thinking it would be fun. I asked if my son could come and the staff member said yes. I signed the contract and a disclaimer stating that my son was coming with me. Another staff member was also very rude; made a comment which started an argument. He asked us where we were from, because some of the customers were speaking Spanish. I said we were from Miami, and yes one member doesn't speak English. Then he said something along the lines "and you don't speak English" being sarcastic. Then he said another stupid rude comment, and I finally had to ask him if he was going to continue talking down to us throughout the tour. He said he had repeated himself four times. I told him he had to repeat himself 5 times if necessary. We are the customer...I asked him if the problem was that we are Cubans, trying to find a reason for their rude behavior, which was already going on for 5 to 10 minutes. I think they are probably army guys, since the naval base is nearby. Things got heated; I took off my vest and asked for my money back. We paid them $400. I was waiting for him to say another stupid comment. For a few seconds things got heated he gave me the look like he wanted to fight. I was also losing my cool. I waited for a response about canceling and getting my money back, but other people told me to calm down. I decided not to screw the "tour" for everybody and go on. At no time the staff members told me that it could be dangerous for a five year old to come. I placed my son in front of me. They took us on a "tour" that was so rough that my five year old son hit his head against the front, broke his lip and scratched his face. They left us behind trying to catch on! My son was bleeding out of the mouth. He was terrified. I had to slow down and finish the tour slowly. We asked why we had to go so fast, and one of the tour guys said we had to cover 27 miles in 1 hour. They sold us on one hour and thirty minutes. Now my son is traumatized. He can't stop reminding me about how horrible experience he had. He is hurt, and I feel responsible of course. I feel guilty too because I should have known, but I haven't taken a jet ski in years and never so rough. It could have ended badly for my son Kevin we were in deep water. It will take a few days for the pain and marks to go away. Bottom line, the entire staff was rude and the tour was dangerous. One of the crew members said he was Cuban and that no one was discriminating. OK my bad, so then they are just a bunch of assholes with no manners and no customer service skills. If you go, don't take a child, I had to take him to the doctor and consult a lawyer, and if they talk down to you, remember they are army guys. It is going to get rough. If they are not in the army, then my bad again, they are just assholes. I would not recommend these people for anything; I think they should have their permit suspended. read more
