When we got there they had more than enough scooters and golfcarts for everyone. We were up and running in no time. We attempted to do the scooters but my GF was just too silly acting and it made us nervous so we switched to the golfcarts. They didn't charge us anything additional even though it cost more, and it was a very easy process. Not to mention they gave us a full breakdown and walkthrough of what we needed to do to be safe. The ongoing pandemic has definitely taken a toll on a lot of businesses and public places since a consumer's mindset to buy anything outside of essentials or to visit a public place like a park or beach, has crippled down significantly. Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. Not every time you would wish "why can't I rate beyond a 5 star?" Well, this is one such business. Their scooters that drive around the 2*2 square miles of Key west is their first advertisement. We were only driving around in our car when we spotted a lot of scooters and that enticed us to try out one of those scooters. We were at our hotel and called them on a fine morning to check if they had pickup to their place and Viola, they did! We had Joe who picked us up in a van and drove us to their place for a scooter pickup. He was a man who knew the place and as we asked him more questions on what to see, where to park, when to visit, he had answers for them all, like a Wikipedia of Key West. He in fact took some detours to show the places that he had mentioned, before getting to Pirates. Our first impression of this place was spot on, right away. The pricing is super nominal and the checkout process was a breeze. We had a guy walk us through the mechanics of the scooter, made us do a quick trial ride and then let us go our ways. Riding a scooter in Keys is the best fun thing to do to traverse through the busy traffic and to find easier parking spots than when you drive a car. Our epic day was almost ruined when we thought we lost our scooter's keys at the Higgs beach and Sean was our savior who turned up in less than 10 minutes with a duplicate and later we returned the scooter too. To our luck, we never lost the key and returned it promptly, the next day to them. SUPER NICE PEOPLE. We rented a scooter during a cruise stop out of Ft Lauderdale to revisit places all over the island we had been before. Being a guy who went from a mini-bike at 12 to a 1962 250cc Harley street/trail at 14 to a 1963 Hog at 18 to a 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700SC ... um, "quite a few years ago". I was all smiles when they asked me to take a turn around the block before letting Patti get on the back. An hour later I was calling them to ask why I couldn't start it ... to have them politely direct my attention to the kill switch that they had pointed out to me when they first went over the scooter with me. I figured I had accidently tripped it while putting the scooter up on its stand. So we had a lovely ride all over the island and upon return I had Patti get off at the curb before tooling into their back lot and asking "where do you want this?". I got off, and in putting the stand down with my right foot for balance and leverage, trapped my left sandal under the stand and ended up with the scooter on top of me. I'm sure I came off looking like the idiot of the week, but these guys had that almost "Aussie-like" demeanor of "no problem mate, it happens here all the time". We thought 50 bucks for three hours was worth every penny to get away from the hordes of tourists and we can testify that you cannot rent from nicer people. read more

I got off the ship, walked around the area and realized I needed something a little more fun than just hopping on a tour bus. I walked right in front of the rental kiosk, stopped and asked about bike rentals and scooters. The scooter rental seemed pretty reasonable, and the people working there seemed trustworthy. My rental was for 4 hours. I toured the entire island a few times over. I took pictures of beaches that other people on the ship had never seen or heard of. I stopped at all the top tourist spots listed online for Key West. And of course, the ubiquitous photo by the Southernmost Point Buoy. I was also caught in a big downpour that moved in for about 45 minutes. As it poured rain, I parked the scooter and enjoyed a visit to the Hemingway house which was right in front of me. I stopped at the key lime pie shop popularized by Marcus Lemonis from NBC's The Profit. Overall, a great experience. I highly recommend and would definitely do it all over again. Fantastic, friendly and efficient service! We were in the Green Parrot and asked a few locals about a Golf Cart service -- and everyone pointed across the street to Pirate Scooter Service! We originally rented our Cart for seven days but then extended our trip (and rental!) with no trouble! The team is extremely friendly, you can park your cart there instead of paying for street parking and they are really efficient. Regardless of where you rent, download the PASSPORT PARKING App -- it's fantastic! Just enter in your golf cart license plate and park as needed during your trip. If you use the Key West Public Parking (on street), you can pay as you go throughout the day without starting over everytime you park. It's great! read more

When you're in Key West, one of the things you'll noticed immediately is how many people ride scooters, golf carts, bicycles. I definitely wanted in on the action so I check out many businesses but decided on Pirate Scooter Rental because of the reviews. The location is small and you might pass it if you're doing 26 mph in a 25 mph zone but I did find it with the help of Google Maps. When I got there, I told them what I wanted and they explained the options they had, pros and cons of one-seater vs two-seater scooters. The price I found reasonable and the scooter comes with a full tank of gas. If you run out then you can go back and they'll refill it for free. I took advantage of this and it gave me peace of mind. They do offer free helmets, lessons and insurance if you need it because typically auto insurance doesn't cover scooters. They will put a deposit on your credit card in the event something happens but once you return the scooter, they remove the deposit. Overall, the staff was friendly and helpful. The scooter was in great working condition and I had no problems whatsoever. I also recommend getting a scooter for Key West because parking is a premium and there are places where you can park the scooter free of charge. read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND paying pirate scooter rentals a visit when your on the island. My husband was in the keys back in March with a friend of his and they rented scooters from them and had a blast. Fast forward to June, him and I traveled to the keys together and he said we have to rent scooters they are soooooo worth it on the island and he was right! The service was great they were friendly and explained how to use the scooter perfectly. It was my first time and I picked it up real fast so don't feel discouraged or afraid to ride one it's simple. They also suggest going for a little practice ride at the near by park and that made me feel more confident with my riding. We payed 50 for all day rental (that's the best deal) we loved it so much we went back the following morning to ask if we could rent it for one more day and they were able to do it without any hesitation. Also we got topped off with FREE GAS before heading out on our adventure. I loved it so much that I'm considering buying one for me to locally travel around. Look, here's the thing.... These guys have good products in their rentals. But everything else sucks. We came in on a cruise and booked our reservation beforehand. They promised they'd be waiting to pick us up. That didn't happen. So we call them to come get us and they pick us up in one of the golf carts but don't have enough space for the six people they knew they were picking up. So we had to make two trips, which is really annoying when you're on a time crunch. The cart was great, but the horn didn't work (at all). Not sure if that's legal to rent out a cart without a horn because t whatever, time crunch. So we bring the cart back at 5:15 (as we said we would) and say hey we're ready to go back to the cruise ship. We're told "oh sorry we're not doing any more rides today. Ryan should've told you. We stop at 5" Looks at watch. Looks back at guy..... "No. Ryan did not mention that." So we're walking back as I write this to say fuck you guys. The cart was cool but service was awful. Don't get the Rental Insurance. Does not cover what's most likely to happen on your scooter, which is leaving security cable attached to the wheel. I'm sure it's a very common mistake which is why it's the one thing the insurance does not cover and of course, they don't tell you that when you get it. Thought it's very shady and I feel taken advantage of, if it get a rentals insurance, it's to have the peace of mind that I'm insurance in case of a very stupid (and common) mistake. I feel taken advantage of and wish I had not gotten in the insurance, or for that matter wish I hadn't rented from here. I'd go somewhere else. read more

First time renting a scooter and now it will be a must every time! The two guys working at the time were friendly and moved fast but also were happy to answer questions. They make sure you feel confident with controls before you go on your own - they even ask you to go around 1 block and come back and beep so they know you're good. Definitely the best way to zip around and see a few things in a short time. We went to the southernmost point and took pics, then out near the beach, then stopped for a bite, back towards Mallory Sq and a few other shops. You don't need to pay for parking for scooters. So get yourself a parking spot and walk to the scooter place to save the hassle the rest of the day. The scooters were older, but well maintained and ran great. Got up to 25 mph without a hiccup, and no stickers to make you look like a newbie tourist. :) Enjoy! read more

Definitely glad we found Pirate rentals. I prepaid for the 3 hour gas golf cart, and we got there the guys greeted us and were very kind. I asked how much it would be for an extra hour, and they threw it in no charge. Upon arriving back, Anthony drove us back to our hotel, and was very kind and helpful. We will definitely be using Pirate Rentals in the future. Renting a gas powered golf cart is the way to go. So much easier to find parking than a car and the best way to get around town to see the sights. I heard the electric carts weren't as good, they look cool but don't go as fast and can't go as far without needing a charge. Ex and I only had a few hours to kill on my last day in Key West, so we decided to rent a scooter and head down to Smathers Beach and get all bronzey. But we had to stand and wait at the rental counter for about 40 minutes while the woman at the desk tried to sign up the couple that got there about 5 seconds before us. And with 5 hours of rental time coming to over $70 with taxes for a scooter for two? Ouch. You can get a better deal elsewhere. Let's see...One of the scooters we rented didn't have a turn signal that worked. My speedometer didn't work and I had to jump start my bike every time. This was one of the funnest things I did in Key West and I highly recommend doing this..and these guys were great...I only wish I could have kept the scooter longer.
