This was our second time using Eaton Bikes and we continue to appreciate the ease of this service. I booked my family's bike reservations about 6 months in advance. I'm a crazy planner but I knew our trip was coming up. The first time we booked them, our reservation was much closer to our visit. They proactively texted me about the timing to drop off the bikes and confirm our reservation. This latest visit, I realized that I didn't get that text so I ended up proactively contacting them the night prior to ensure a smooth drop off. I think they may have forgotten about my reservation. Regardless, they managed to get everything in order and drop off the bikes (even if it was probably a little last minute). They bring helmets, bike locks and can add on child seats for the little ones. I ended up extending my reservation with a simple text and it was no issue and they autocharged my credit card on file. What's so great about Key West is that it's compact. I was able to just use the bike during my entire stay and didn't have to move the car once from the hotel parking lot. We had so many bad experiences before we found Eaton. 2) I needed new 29" tires for a mountain bike. They had a selection and installed them within 20 hours. 3) we go there for other accessories too. Key West has a lot of narrow streets, pedestrians, and roosters! It might be hard to drive a car. Bikes are the best vehicle to move around on the tiny island. I asked Google. Google said, " To go to East bikes". I booked one bike. When I arrived there, they were waiting for me with smiles. Thanks. I got a bike. It was a bit big for a little man.LOL. But I learned how to ride it. I had only 6 hours. I was successfully biking many popular spots such as Truman's Winter White House, Hermingways' home, Southernmost point, etc. If you use shuttle bus between MIami and Key West and can stay there for 5 or 6 hours, please consider using the bikes at Eaton. read more

We did not have a reservation but were able to get two cruiser bikes for the day in KW. The staff was super friendly and helpful. You could tell they know the business and bikes. Easy process for checking out the bikes - no need to copy driver's license and no liability forms. The price of $18 for 24 hours was OK. I know there was cheaper but their location and the good reviews were worth the extra cost. We got the bikes set up and kept them all day. Easy to use locks came with each bike. We made appointments for two bicycle tune ups quoted at $75 each. We ended up paying for two complete overhauls without our knowledge at a price of $703. They don't know the difference between tune up and overhaul. I didn't need or want new tires, chain, or brakes, but they replaced them at extreme charge. I am absolutely wowed by how top notch their customer service is. Who the heck trained these people to be wonderful human beings? It's a trick question. No one can teach someone genuine kindness!!! My experience was unforgettable! It truly was! So I called ahead to see if they were open on Thanksgiving. Not only did I get a lady with a pleasant and sweet voice over the phone, but I was also greeted in person by another employee with the utmost respect. They were very courteous, one gentleman even helped "train" my mom on how to use her tricycle till she got used to it. Staff wore masks at all times and they were so cheerful and happy helping us get situated with our rentals. Mr. Chris was extremely professional and was very helpful with deciding which bikes were good for us. I love that there are people who truly enjoy their livelihood and doesn't think of us tourists as nuisances. I had an unpleasant exchange with a man who was annoyed that I was asking if he had any idea how long the bikes would take after he had explained their system for notifying people. If my question annoyed him I only asked because I was trying to determine whether to walk all the way across the island home. We're old. His ire was unwarranted in my opinion. I rented a 7-speed cruiser for 10 days. Easy pick up and drop off (although they do offer delivery but it's centrally located so an easy walk from most rentals) and super reasonable price. I'm completely satisfied and was a bit sad to drop it off today! The bicycle was perfect and they set the lock to the last four of my cell so the entire process could not have been easier. I highly recommend! Basket was perfect to trips to the grocery or small shopping excursions. As a side note, unless you have someone in your party who really can't manage a few miles a day on a bicycle, I recommend this over a scooter. I have known and used this bike shop since 2012. Bikes are the way to do Key West, and Eaton Bikes is the way to do bikes. I rented for my family of 6 for 5 days and service was flawless. Delivery to our hotel was early, and they picked them up at the end of our vacation as part of the service. My college age daughter had problems with her lock one night while out on her own, and Eaton's roadside assistance showed up quickly and solved the problem with no hassle. Look no further. Unpleasant experience. They came recommended to us from the leasing office of where we stayed. Went to Eaton and rented 2 bikes immediately, but asked for a 3rd rental to be dropped off at a later date; 3rd person was arriving on a later date. We picked up our first 2 bikes that day, both clean and great to ride. We had 2 issues with the bikes while using them, but both things were addressed quickly. Low star rating is because of our 3rd bike rental. The day of the rental, we paid for all 3 rentals up front. We were never presented with a contract, electronically or hard copy. They only asked for an electronic signature. We thought that signature was for the charge to our CC. There was no further explanation shown or verbally explained to us about cancelling. Fast forward a few days after our initial visit, and 3rd person's flight was cancelled and couldn't join us in KW. So we called Eaton to cancel this other rental. Note: cancellation request before the expected drop off time. This is where it became questionable. We were told we signed a contract saying no refunds available for any reason. When we questioned the "contract", they showed us an electronic copy that we did in fact sign. However, this signature, we thought, was for the credit card charge. At NO time was this contract, or the info in the contract, shown or explained to us. After several minutes of haggling over the phone with a woman, she finally said she would refund only part of the charge of the 3rd bike. Her reason being: the CC fee and referral fee would be deducted from the initial cost of bike #3. But she quoted us a 25% reduced amount, since she claimed the CC fee + referral fee totaled this much. Shocked! Doubtful that both fees are that high. At that point, we thought it's best to make a personal visit to them to try to resolve this. We went straight to their office and spoke to whom we believed to be same woman on phone (owner?), just minutes earlier. Voice and response was identical. However, she claimed to not speak with us before and "knew nothing about our call", minutes earlier. Her demeanor said otherwise. Strike 1. Strike 2 came when she started fighting back about how unfair it is for them that we'd reserve a bike in advance, asking them to essentially hold it for a few days, and not expect no refund should we cancel. Agree, it's fair. However, it's NOT fair (to us) is this was never presented to us as their policy, either verbally or written, and never presented to us that our signature was for a contract and not a CC charge. She was very firm; wouldn't back down. Failed to see our side of the issue; she only cared about their money. She also wouldn't budge on the 25% charge she was holding back for CC fee + referral fee. She claimed she didn't know what these fees actually totaled. Really!? Strike 3: she told us the reason they don't have to explain their policy is because when someone recommends them and in turn receives a referral fee, it's the responsibility of that referral person to explain to us--the potential customer--that Eaton will not refund money to us should we cancel, etc. So, you mean to tell me, as a business owner or operator, that you expect someone who only gets a referral fee and doesn't actually work for you, to explain YOUR policies on rentals, when you own and insure these bikes??? It ludicrous! If that's true, it's a horribly way to run a business! If it's not true, then you're not being truthful and there's an integrity issue happening. Again. After several minutes of arguing, we were ready to walk out without any refund. I told her she should use this as a lesson to her staff/people receiving referrals, to avoid this in the future. She in turn, told us we should learn from this too, and ask more questions. Which we will. We will also NEVER use this place again. I'd rather pay full price, and even more, for a business that's honest and respects the customer. She was neither. Finally, our 3rd visitor was able to join us several days later. We continued to use both Eaton bikes initially rented, but refused to rent #3 from them and went to another place. When they heard our story, that unleashed another round of stories about Eaton, and a few customers in this place also had their own stories. We knew we were not alone in our experience. Hopefully this review helps them evaluate their policies and improve their customer experience. First 2 bike rentals were great. However, integrity is very high in running a business, and it was as not shown to us in our case at Eaton. read more

I was able to peddle in on a Saturday and had my bike back by early afternoon! They not only had all the needed parts in stock but they also charged my battery, handed the bike off to me ready to ride and provided excellent, knowledgeable customer service! So here's what's sad about Key West. They suffered through a pandemic dependent on tourism and when tourism returns they treat tourists with utter disdain. A small amount of kindness and respect could go a long way but not fighting with a handicap person trying to park in this mess. My husband tried to park in a handicap spot. (He IS legally handicapped) We were over by 3 inches. THREE INCHES. The employee or owner came out as I was getting out to check our lines. We had planned to move on anyway and my husband hadn't even gotten out of the vehicle, but instead he chose to get in a fight with me and take multiple photos. Threatened to turn me if I posted a negative review. He could have handled it much differently. If he handles his bicycle shop the same way he handled us, it's not likely he cares for anyone but himself. We moved on but he said he would turn us if we posted this.
