We made the request for the bikes online, filling out the appropriate paperwork for 2 bikes, for what we thought was the next 2 days and hit send. We got back the appropriate disclaimer and waiver forms to fill out right away, which if you read through the entire thing, was hilarious (bonus stress relief)! The following day, which is a Sunday, we waited for our bikes to be delivered. After a half hour delay of when we were expecting the bikes, we decided we had better text them to make sure they were coming. Another delay and we looked more carefully at our reservation and found we had mistakenly put the dates of the next week instead of the current one! We had hit the wrong buttons and made a big mistake and thought we were going to have to walk around town again but before we knew it, we received a telephone call to let us know they were outside our vacation home with the bikes ready to go! They had received our message and scrambled to get the bikes out to us. The fixed the computer reservation and we were ready to go, all with smiles on their faces, on their day off! In addition to us receiving such great customer service, a friend joined us later in the week and wanted to rent a regular bicycle. She walked to a local shop only to be turned away very rudely. Walking home, she came across this same Island Bicycles & Skateboards shop who not only welcomed her in and got her outfitted with a bike, but they also let her have the bike on a day-to-day basis as long as she texted or called to let them know. 9-26-2022 - Key West was our first stop on an Eastern Caribbean cruise…read more I researched bike rentals ahead of time and found this business conveniently located on the cruise ship pier, you literally walk right past it. It's a small white shed type of structure with a window. The rental process was quick & easy. You sign your waiver and pay (rental fees were very reasonable). I believe you can also reserve on their website ahead of time. A hurricane was on its way to the area so I chose to wait until the day we arrived to rent. All the bikes are lined up on the bike rack a few feet away. They all looked to be in great condition, each one had a basket and a lock included. It wasn't very long before we were on our way. Pre-cruise. I made a list of places I wanted to see in Key West, it helps to be prepared. Some of the stops we made were: Fort Zachary Taylor, Southern most point, Edward Knight pier, lunch at Old Town Mexican cafe, Hemingway house, Key West Lighthouse, Maritime museum, Sculpture garden and more. Bike racks are located all over town. Every place we stopped there was a convenient spot where we could lock our bikes up. We found a CVS, made some purchases and our bike baskets came in handy at that time. It was so easy to get around the city streets are very bicycle friendly, even the drivers were courteous and friendly to the bicyclists. It was the best day, we stayed out until the very end. Loved the freedom to quickly move around the city and also enjoyed some great exercise to balance out all the cruise food. We had a perfect day. We were the last bikes to be returned that day. We went back to the white shed on the pier and no one was there which was a little confusing at first, but then we read the note on the window that said to go to the coffee shop a few steps away to return the keys. Easy rental return and we were back on the ship quickly.
