Five stars for Sunshine Scooters and that's before I even get into the chaos we managed to create. If you're looking for the clean, polished version: great customer service, newer equipment, and a crew that'll bend over backwards to get you rolling. There's a reason they're one of the top rental spots in Key West everything from the scooters to the carts is dialed in, and they make exploring the island easy, smooth, and honestly pretty hard to mess up... unless you're us. We started out like responsible adults early morning, clear heads, solid plan: cruise around for a couple hours, take in the island, maybe stop here and there. Somewhere around late morning, though, that plan quietly slipped overboard. Next thing you know, we've got a small fleet scooters buzzing, two carts rolling, music blasting off a Bose speaker, cooler packed like we were prepping for an expedition. We weren't just sightseeing we were inhabiting the island. Drifting through traffic at that slow, salty Key West pace, catching the breeze, waving at strangers, stopping at random corners, parks, and stretches of shade like a bunch of grown men pretending we didn't have responsibilities waiting back home. And then... the nonsense. I didn't know scooters could do wheelies turns out they can. Didn't know golf carts could drift turns out they absolutely will if you find even a whisper of wet pavement (and somehow, we always did). We probably broke every unwritten rule: music too loud, turns too wide, laughter echoing down streets like we owned the place. It wasn't fast, it wasn't reckless in the "life flashing before your eyes" kind of way it was that slow, careless, teenage kind of fun where the world just feels wide open. Looking back, we probably deserved an escort... or at least a warning. But that's the thing those scooters weren't just transportation, they were the excuse. The real experience was just us being us, a little wild, a little dumb, and having the kind of day you can't quite explain without smiling. read more

Sunshine Scooters are the bomb! They took great care of me and Nancy on our recent trip to the Keys. We've had some shady experiences in the past when renting ATV's and other scenarios where we rented a vehicle, but our experience with Sunshine Scooters was nothing like that at all. Nancy is the master planner and had already figured out everything we needed to do before arrival. She previously called the store several times before pickup to see what our scooter would cost, if we could park our car here while renting the scooter (which we could), to receive the lowdown on where we could park, and the basic rules of the road. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted by one gentleman behind the counter than handed off to Brandon. Brandon was a superstar - friendly, great smile, respectful, provided a map and circled several locations we had on our to-do list, and gave us all the other information we needed to survive a week on a scooter driving around in the Keys. Good job Brandon! They have helmets available at no additional charge and there are restrooms for customers as well. The restrooms are surprisingly in great shape and very clean, I did not expect this from a scooter rental store. The rental cost us a little over $200 for 6 days. I believe it is normally more than that but we were able to get a military discount, so be sure to let staff know if you are former military. One scooter fits two people and it's a 50 CC, so max speed is around 45 when you're going downhill. You can get around to just about anywhere in Key West on this thing and parking for scooters is free unless noted otherwise. If you are in a car or golf cart you're looking at spending $5-$10 an HOUR to park anywhere in this city, so scooters and bicycles are the way to go if you want to park for free. You will be required to sign some paperwork like any other rental place, but the one cool thing about renting the scooter is that the insurance coverage only cost $10 the entire time your rent it. The only stipulation is that if you do have an accident and there is visible damage to the vehicle be sure to get a police report filled out otherwise you will not be covered. The scooter gets roughly 100 miles to the gallon, I know because I used to have a 50 CC just like this one. If you do get low on gas the shop will fill it up for free. They also offer a pickup service if you are unable to bring the scooter back. Additionally, they have a key drop area out front where you can drop the scooter and key off after normal business hours if you need to head out of the Keys unexpectedly. All-in-all, riding around on this scooter made our vacation so much more enjoyable. We were free to drive anywhere we wanted and had access to free parking everywhere. If you are here on vacation, I highly recommend getting you a scooter from Sunshine Scooters. read more

Perfect location to rent a scooter. We rented a scooter for 6 days. Cost was around two hundred dollars for one scooter. They fill the gas tank to the top and then if you need more gas they said just drop by and they'll give it to you for free.. They also offer helmets if you want one and that is also free. They also told me. I can leave my car in the parking lot as long as I wanted. But we ended up putting it by the hotel. If you wanna drop your scooter off after hours, you just pull up. Drop it and leave the keys in the dropbox. The scooter was perfect way to get around key west we had no issues. Parking is free for scooters in Key west. Staff was very friendly and showed us a map of all the places that we could Go on the scooter. They also gave us good instructions of where to park and we're not to park. Wherever you're staying, the sunshine scooter band will pick you up and give you complementary transportation to either their Duval or North Roosevelt locations. When you return the bike, you can go to either Duval St. or N. Roosevelt to get the complimentary shuttle back to your resort. The weekly price per bike is $50 each. If you see yourself, using a bike on Key West only a couple of times, you may want to consider the daily rental at your resort, which will be more expensive on a daily basis, but less expensive overall. Best way to get around the island is by a scooter. Plenty of parking for scooters, easy to go anywhere on this island. Business hours is officially from 9am but if you happen to arrive a bit early, owner is usually there early enough and he processed my rental. After a short tutorial, I went all around. Their scooter was easy to ride, going about 20 miles an hour speed most of the time, plenty of free parking for scooters in town, made my trip more enjoyable. Return was easy, just drove up, gave the key and helmet back, and staff drove me back to the airport for free. I have been coming to the keys multiple times a year for decades and sunshine scooters is the only place I rent from. Best prices on the island and free shuttle service (just tip your driver). They will pick you up from the airport, drop your belongings off at your hotel and take you back to grab your rental. Keep in mind it's the keys (slow traffic) and they only have one or two transport vans so be patient if requesting transport/pickup. Highly recommend Sunshine Scooters. We tried to rent a golf cart via their web site. It indicated it worked and provided a confirmation number. But when we arrived there was no reservation. The staff was able to accommodate our needs despite having very little inventory left. They are aware of issues with making reservations online and recommended calling them to confirm the reservation or call to make it instead of using the website. The golf carts itself was in good condition and ran great. Was comfortable for 3 adults (on a 4 seater). The steering was a little wonky and required constant attention to hold a straight line, but I got used to it after an hour or two of driving around the island. read more

They picked me up at the airport, dropped my bags at my hotel, brought me to their place and got me on my way with my scooter. Such a great move on my part ... Wish I had done this several visits ago. I tried to reserve an electric golf cart, unfortunately they were not available, so I got a gas powered one. It was a fun day with my husband and small dog. I've traveled to and around key west see real times, this however topped the trip! My husband doesn't walk as far as I can, my little dog gets tired so woohoo problem solved!!! Got over the whole desired area several times without issue, never got hot (canopy & wind) husband and dog rested and mama hot to shop , eat and drive happy! Priceless...!! My GF mistakenly locked the key in the storage area of a scooter so we had to call them for an extra key to unlock it. It was 95 degrees outside so we stepped into a shop until we assumed they'd call when they arrived. Well, no call came. So I finally went outside to see what was going on. Turns out it was the owner himself in his car so I flagged him down. He rolled down the window and said "WHAT KIND OF IDIOT DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO NOT STAY BY YOUR SCOOTER". ummm, excuse me??? I reminded him that we live in an advanced society where cell phones and mobile calls are a thing. Well he wasn't having it and just zoomed off. Maybe the worst part about it was that he unlocked the storage area without me being there, leaving my GFs purse and my wallet exposed to potential theft. The gentlemen that worked there were all super helpful and nice while not treating us like children. They gave us a ride from our hotel to Sunshine Scooters, had us in our golf cart and on our site-seeing way in under 20 minutes. I originally met Jon by accident biking by and thought I'd stop to look at scooters. Jon was very pleasant and knowledgeable explaining all the differences between the scooters. He took time to listen to my questions and answer them. He told me if he wasn't there I could see his son JB when I returned for purchase, which I did. Nice folks but we rented an 8 seater for 2 days and it broke down less than 5 hours we drove off with it and brakes were questionable at best! Called 5:45pm and left voicemail but they had already closed. Didn't get a replacement until following morning. But defeated purpose as we wanted to use Saturday night on Duval. Was offered no compensation or reduction for ~6 hours of non use. They need to check voicemail after hours for situations like this and compensate since it was clearly lack of maintenance. read more

My girlfriend and I were on a girls trip and rented a golf cart from Sunshine Scooters. It was really easy to reserve online and when we arrived at our pick up time, we signed a couple papers and were on our way! We had a blast! We decorated our cart with lights and beads and brought our Bluetooth speaker to jam. Parking was a little difficult downtown so expect to park a block or two and walk. No biggie. I and my girlfriend rented 2 bikes there on Jan 10th when we were there. We made our deposit by cash under their instruction. When I returned the guy running the place was gone. We locked the bikes and dropped the keys into the "key drop" hole. Then guess what? I never got my deposit back! I made more than 15 calls during the past 10 weeks and 3 weeks ago they told me that they have already mailed a check to me. But when I get back from spring break today, that check is still nowhere to be found..... I called to ask and was told that the check was never mailed out. It's rare that I get inspired by a business... but it's twice this place has helped me out. A friend of mine rented a scooter here a few times and received a low price but an awesome friendly service. So when I bought my SUPER piece of junk bike from Kmart (another review), and had a flat coming home, the helped me out. And when I found myself biking around key west without breaks, i stopped in here for help. And they fixed it. And didn't charge me a thing.
