Five stars for Sunshine Scooters and that's before I even get into the chaos we managed to create. If you're looking for the clean, polished version: great customer service, newer equipment, and a crew that'll bend over backwards to get you rolling. There's a reason they're one of the top rental spots in Key West everything from the scooters to the carts is dialed in, and they make exploring the island easy, smooth, and honestly pretty hard to mess up... unless you're us. We started out like responsible adults early morning, clear heads, solid plan: cruise around for a couple hours, take in the island, maybe stop here and there. Somewhere around late morning, though, that plan quietly slipped overboard. Next thing you know, we've got a small fleet scooters buzzing, two carts rolling, music blasting off a Bose speaker, cooler packed like we were prepping for an expedition. We weren't just sightseeing we were inhabiting the island. Drifting through traffic at that slow, salty Key West pace, catching the breeze, waving at strangers, stopping at random corners, parks, and stretches of shade like a bunch of grown men pretending we didn't have responsibilities waiting back home. And then... the nonsense. I didn't know scooters could do wheelies turns out they can. Didn't know golf carts could drift turns out they absolutely will if you find even a whisper of wet pavement (and somehow, we always did). We probably broke every unwritten rule: music too loud, turns too wide, laughter echoing down streets like we owned the place. It wasn't fast, it wasn't reckless in the "life flashing before your eyes" kind of way it was that slow, careless, teenage kind of fun where the world just feels wide open. Looking back, we probably deserved an escort... or at least a warning. But that's the thing those scooters weren't just transportation, they were the excuse. The real experience was just us being us, a little wild, a little dumb, and having the kind of day you can't quite explain without smiling. read more

Sunshine Scooters are the bomb! They took great care of me and Nancy on our recent trip to the Keys. We've had some shady experiences in the past when renting ATV's and other scenarios where we rented a vehicle, but our experience with Sunshine Scooters was nothing like that at all. Nancy is the master planner and had already figured out everything we needed to do before arrival. She previously called the store several times before pickup to see what our scooter would cost, if we could park our car here while renting the scooter (which we could), to receive the lowdown on where we could park, and the basic rules of the road. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted by one gentleman behind the counter than handed off to Brandon. Brandon was a superstar - friendly, great smile, respectful, provided a map and circled several locations we had on our to-do list, and gave us all the other information we needed to survive a week on a scooter driving around in the Keys. Good job Brandon! They have helmets available at no additional charge and there are restrooms for customers as well. The restrooms are surprisingly in great shape and very clean, I did not expect this from a scooter rental store. The rental cost us a little over $200 for 6 days. I believe it is normally more than that but we were able to get a military discount, so be sure to let staff know if you are former military. One scooter fits two people and it's a 50 CC, so max speed is around 45 when you're going downhill. You can get around to just about anywhere in Key West on this thing and parking for scooters is free unless noted otherwise. If you are in a car or golf cart you're looking at spending $5-$10 an HOUR to park anywhere in this city, so scooters and bicycles are the way to go if you want to park for free. You will be required to sign some paperwork like any other rental place, but the one cool thing about renting the scooter is that the insurance coverage only cost $10 the entire time your rent it. The only stipulation is that if you do have an accident and there is visible damage to the vehicle be sure to get a police report filled out otherwise you will not be covered. The scooter gets roughly 100 miles to the gallon, I know because I used to have a 50 CC just like this one. If you do get low on gas the shop will fill it up for free. They also offer a pickup service if you are unable to bring the scooter back. Additionally, they have a key drop area out front where you can drop the scooter and key off after normal business hours if you need to head out of the Keys unexpectedly. All-in-all, riding around on this scooter made our vacation so much more enjoyable. We were free to drive anywhere we wanted and had access to free parking everywhere. If you are here on vacation, I highly recommend getting you a scooter from Sunshine Scooters. read more

Perfect location to rent a scooter. We rented a scooter for 6 days. Cost was around two hundred dollars for one scooter. They fill the gas tank to the top and then if you need more gas they said just drop by and they'll give it to you for free.. They also offer helmets if you want one and that is also free. They also told me. I can leave my car in the parking lot as long as I wanted. But we ended up putting it by the hotel. If you wanna drop your scooter off after hours, you just pull up. Drop it and leave the keys in the dropbox. The scooter was perfect way to get around key west we had no issues. Parking is free for scooters in Key west. Staff was very friendly and showed us a map of all the places that we could Go on the scooter. They also gave us good instructions of where to park and we're not to park. I would definitely use this company again the next time I am in Key west florida. read more

Renting scooters was such an easy and smooth experience! They picked us up right at the Key West Express and took us to pick up our scooters, which made everything so convenient. The scooters worked great with no problems at all. When it was time to head back, they took us back to the Key West Express, making the entire process stress-free from start to finish. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely use them again next time we're in Key West! read more

Seeing Key West by scooter is the best! Free parking and plenty of spots at all the popular spots. Renting from Sunshine Scooters was a great choice. We were provided with two brand new scooters (nice!), free gas for the duration of our rental, complimentary helmets and the offer of a shuttle back to our hotel. They patiently answered our questions, gave us some good basic operating instructions and patiently answered all our questions, including about rates and rental periods. They helped us make the most cost efficient choice. read more

Experienced scooter driver, here. But if you've never ridden then you just don't know what you're missing. These guys are attentive, they answer their phones quickly, make everything easy for you and are extremely affordable. They give good advice for refreshing your skills for someone like me who hadn't driven in awhile and I was on my way. No issues with the scooter and easy to return. read more

Will only rent from this company when I'm down in the keys! I researched all the other scooter rental company's and Sunshine Rentals seemed the most reasonable in price, but reliable. I called them the same morning and they held a reservation, matched their online price and I had a scooter within hours (my choice for pickup time. Could've rented sooner). They offer free parking for your car at the Roosevelt location (drove from key largo to scooter for the day around key west). When I arrived, I was on the scooter within 10 minutes. Drop off was simple. 11/10 would recommend this company. Super chill employees. Scooter was brand new, no issues. Tiffany at the Duvall location was very informative and super kind as I called her 3 or 4 times throughout the day with questions for peace of mind. It's simple. This is a fantastic family, owned and operated business. That's been in Key West for years. They are well oiled machine. Wherever you're staying, the sunshine scooter band will pick you up and give you complementary transportation to either their Duval or North Roosevelt locations. When you return the bike, you can go to either Duval St. or N. Roosevelt to get the complimentary shuttle back to your resort. The weekly price per bike is $50 each. If you see yourself, using a bike on Key West only a couple of times, you may want to consider the daily rental at your resort, which will be more expensive on a daily basis, but less expensive overall. If you see yourself using the bike quite a bit during your stay, sunshine scooters is the place. Really great company.. read more

These people rock! Out go to in the Keys. We rent from them every time we are visiting. Helpful and accommodating. Great pricing, don't change! read more

Such an outstanding company! We had a 6 seater golf cart for a few days over spring break and it was so comfortable and nice to drive around with my family. Again they point out the struggles to park some times in Key West, so just plan accordingly. They have great customer service and shuttles to airport was amazing too! Best company in town! read more

Best way to get around the island is by a scooter. Plenty of parking for scooters, easy to go anywhere on this island. Business hours is officially from 9am but if you happen to arrive a bit early, owner is usually there early enough and he processed my rental. After a short tutorial, I went all around. Their scooter was easy to ride, going about 20 miles an hour speed most of the time, plenty of free parking for scooters in town, made my trip more enjoyable. Return was easy, just drove up, gave the key and helmet back, and staff drove me back to the airport for free. If I have another opportunity to visit Key West, I would definitely rent their scooter. read more

Great place to rent golf cart from! Reasonable prices and super customer service! Thank you!

I have been coming to the keys multiple times a year for decades and sunshine scooters is the only place I rent from. Best prices on the island and free shuttle service (just tip your driver). They will pick you up from the airport, drop your belongings off at your hotel and take you back to grab your rental. Keep in mind it's the keys (slow traffic) and they only have one or two transport vans so be patient if requesting transport/pickup. Highly recommend Sunshine Scooters. They have the best customer service on the island. I will continue to use them in the future. Always a good experience. read more

Nice owner. Great staff for booking. Just call or email. They will call you back. Easier to use a scooter or golf cart than you think. Golf cart was the win on my trip. I was able to drive my friends around. Cruise without getting tired or hot like the walkers. Yet I could still park and walk if I wanted to. I saw far more this way and it was worth it. You can get a parking pass for all day and drive and park in any lot so it's pretty efficient Is it a bit speedy. Yes. Are you on vacay? Yes. Did it make my trip enjoyable and more enjoyable than others. Absolutely! Just do it! read more

Called and spoke to the business to make sure we could do a rental online (availability). Employee said no problem and took my reservation right then and there. Even provided us with a military discount. Arrived the next day and rental was gases and ready to go. Paperwork was not complicated to complete. Employee gave us the overview of how to work the golf cart, how to lock it up and other hints. The process was quick and easy - we were on our way in less than 15 minutes. Golf cart was in great condition and ran well the whole time. Return was easy as well. Staff was kind and knowledgeable. Will use again and definitely recommend! read more

Tiffany you are the BEST. She went above and beyond helping me set up a reservation for a golf cart. The cart was excellent clean worked well. Their walk in pricing is significantly higher than their 24 hour advanced reservation pricing posted on their web site which is what brought us there in the first place. We walked out rather than rent 4 scooters for a week due to this practice. read more

We rented scooters for my son's birthday. Very organized business. Very patient with new young adult riders. Good prices!

We tried to rent a golf cart via their web site. It indicated it worked and provided a confirmation number. But when we arrived there was no reservation. The staff was able to accommodate our needs despite having very little inventory left. They are aware of issues with making reservations online and recommended calling them to confirm the reservation or call to make it instead of using the website. The golf carts itself was in good condition and ran great. Was comfortable for 3 adults (on a 4 seater). The steering was a little wonky and required constant attention to hold a straight line, but I got used to it after an hour or two of driving around the island. read more

Their prices were the best on Key West. My scooter was clean, ran perfect, full gas tank. They picked me up at the airport, dropped my bags at my hotel, brought me to their place and got me on my way with my scooter. When I returned the scooter, I just handed the keys and I was done, no fuss, no muss. The still collected my bags, and brought me to the airport, something even my hotel didn't do! My driver, Tommy Lee, was super friendly. He had some great recommendations and was great to chat with. I'll definitely rent from these folks next time I'm in Key West!! read more

Love this company. We have used them a few times now and are heading there again next week. Such a great move on my part ... Wish I had done this several visits ago. I tried to reserve an electric golf cart, unfortunately they were not available, so I got a gas powered one. It was a fun day with my husband and small dog. I've traveled to and around key west see real times, this however topped the trip! My husband doesn't walk as far as I can, my little dog gets tired so woohoo problem solved!!! Got over the whole desired area several times without issue, never got hot (canopy & wind) husband and dog rested and mama hot to shop , eat and drive happy! Priceless...!! BTW these guys (men not just a general term) were so nice and helpful, cant say enough kind words about whole experience except it was a good deal all around and I'll definitely do it again next time !!! read more

We went to Key West as a stop in our honeymoon, and these guys were super nice, and helpful. It was several months ago, but if I don't mistakenly recall one of the staff's name was Brandon and he helped us a lot and really appreciate it! I owe this good review that was almost a year ago, but due to the good experience and services, I kept in mind that I would give them a good review. We rented a scooter and a cart. They were able to work with us in changing the scooters for a cart and both worked very well and worked like new! read more

Sunshine Scooters was truly the best! From the first call to the final goodbye they were friendly, professional and helpful! Sunshine Scooters even offered to take us to the airport even though it was several hours after our cart drop off time. I highly recommend this company! 5 Star service read more

Once again these folks were first rate and fun to deal with!

My GF mistakenly locked the key in the storage area of a scooter so we had to call them for an extra key to unlock it. It was 95 degrees outside so we stepped into a shop until we assumed they'd call when they arrived. Well, no call came. So I finally went outside to see what was going on. Turns out it was the owner himself in his car so I flagged him down. He rolled down the window and said "WHAT KIND OF IDIOT DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO NOT STAY BY YOUR SCOOTER". ummm, excuse me??? I reminded him that we live in an advanced society where cell phones and mobile calls are a thing. Well he wasn't having it and just zoomed off. Maybe the worst part about it was that he unlocked the storage area without me being there, leaving my GFs purse and my wallet exposed to potential theft. So, now I ask..WHAT KIND OF IDIOT OWNER DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO TALK TO A CUSTOMER THAT WAY?? The scooter was fine though. No complaints there. Just the idiot owner. read more

We enjoyed our scooters for our stay in the keys. Best way to get around in the island

This was an awesome experience. The guy that helped us was from our neck of the woods so it was nice to chat with someone from home! The gentlemen that worked there were all super helpful and nice while not treating us like children. They gave us a ride from our hotel to Sunshine Scooters, had us in our golf cart and on our site-seeing way in under 20 minutes. When we dropped it back off...we pulled in, the guys looked the cart over, helped us into the shuttle van and we were back at our hotel within 15 minutes. It was a great experience and I would recommend them to anyone looking to rent scooters or golf carts while in Key West!! read more

What an Incredible Scooter Place, and Wonderful Family Run Business! Thank you Jon, Sherry, JB and Brandon!!! I just recently joined my husband on the island and purchased a new scooter. I originally met Jon by accident biking by and thought I'd stop to look at scooters. Jon was very pleasant and knowledgeable explaining all the differences between the scooters. He took time to listen to my questions and answer them. He told me if he wasn't there I could see his son JB when I returned for purchase, which I did. JB was also very knowledgeable, professional and patient. There were times I just had a question and I called, JB was always able to help me right away. I met Brandon on my initial visit with Jon and then later when I had a question about something on my scooter. He also was professional and knowledgeable, he let me know that they stand behind their product and if I had any issues stop by or call. I love my new scooter, I convinced my husband that he should get one, but that wasn't hard, so I'm sure we'll be stopping by to pick it out soon! Thank you all for an incredible experience!!! read more

Nice folks but we rented an 8 seater for 2 days and it broke down less than 5 hours we drove off with it and brakes were questionable at best! Called 5:45pm and left voicemail but they had already closed. Didn't get a replacement until following morning. But defeated purpose as we wanted to use Saturday night on Duval. Was offered no compensation or reduction for ~6 hours of non use. They need to check voicemail after hours for situations like this and compensate since it was clearly lack of maintenance. read more

I and my girlfriend rented 2 bikes there on Jan 10th when we were there. We made our deposit by cash under their instruction. When I returned the guy running the place was gone. We locked the bikes and dropped the keys into the "key drop" hole. Then guess what? I never got my deposit back! I made more than 15 calls during the past 10 weeks and 3 weeks ago they told me that they have already mailed a check to me. But when I get back from spring break today, that check is still nowhere to be found..... I called to ask and was told that the check was never mailed out. I think they never intended to give me my money back. read more

It's rare that I get inspired by a business... but it's twice this place has helped me out. A friend of mine rented a scooter here a few times and received a low price but an awesome friendly service. So when I bought my SUPER piece of junk bike from Kmart (another review), and had a flat coming home, the helped me out. And when I found myself biking around key west without breaks, i stopped in here for help. And they fixed it. And didn't charge me a thing. Being a london girl, i'm not used to that kind of kindness without something trying to have sex with me. So I walk away with a good feeling about Key West, and a good feeling about this business. I know it's a simple thing that took a few minutes, but it meant a lot to me! So if you renting bikes or scooters, might as well go to a business like this where they're friendly! read more
