I want to share my experience so future clients can make an informed medical decision prior to receiving services from this nail salon. On 12/4 I had a gel manicure and gel pedicure with a referred technician - One week later I developed severe itching between my toes, skin maceration, followed by painful skin fissures ("paper-cut" like tears) between nearly all of my toes, burning, and major sensitivity. My Primary Care Physician has confirmed tinea pedis - caused by dermatophyte fungi (not properly cleaning, sanitizing pedicure tubs, or sterilizing tools). I am now treating what appears to be a fungal skin infection that developed shortly after the service. While I can't say with certainty how or where the infection was acquired, the timing directly followed my pedicure (timeline aligns with the exposure & development of a fungal infection). Untreated or possible progression of this development could lead to Secondary Bacterial Skin Infection, Cellulitis, Lymphangitis, or Sepsis - becoming very serious. I did not notice any visible sanitation concerns during my visit, but given my outcome, I strongly encourage future clients to: * Ask about foot bath disinfection procedures * Ensure tools are properly sterilized * Avoid services if you have any cuts, shaving, or broken skin I hope this review helps others take precautions. Experience was below average in comparison to other nail salons in the Cedar Park area. I told the nail tech NOT to cut my toenails on the sides because that causes ingrown nails and I few minutes later what does he do? He proceeds to cut on the sides... You need to "listen" to your clients and not go on auto pilot when providing the service. Also why would you have your front door propped open for flies and mosquitos to come in?? The AC was working jist fine and you were meerly causing itto be more humid inside. There were other things that were subpar but those were at the top of the list. My first visit was scheduled. Brian did my manicure and another lady did my pedicure. I like the selection of colors but most of all I like the accuracy. The price on the menu is why you pay. They don't pressure you to tip or force you to pay with cash. My most recent visit was a walk in and they were accommodating and gave me a realistic wait time. The salon itself is cute, and I appreciated how quickly I was taken care of. I got both a pedicure and a dip manicure during my visit. Unfortunately, the pedicure felt extremely rushed (it was the fastest I've ever had). The leg massage lasted about five minutes and didn't include my feet. You know that feeling when it's clear the person is inexperienced? That was definitely the case here. Steps were skipped or done half-heartedly. My toenail cuticles weren't cleaned up properly, the shape was more square than I'd preferred, and the polish color didn't match what I selected (I didn't realize this until the manicure began and then noticed the mismatch). The dip manicure also left something to be desired. The technician seemed distracted; he spilled acetone all over my hand, which dried out my skin, and kept dropping tools. While he did follow the general process for dip nails, he rushed through it, and although the final result looked okay, the overall experience wasn't very good (i.e., I've had much better) This salon might be hit or miss depending on who you get. If you choose to go, I'd recommend making an appointment with someone experienced to ensure a better and more consistent experience. read more

Sadly I think this will be my last visit at Hydra. I used to enjoy the pedicures quite a bit. The polish job (gel) was spot on and the overall "experience" (scrubbing, skin feeling refreshed, massage) was nice enough to justify returning. Unfortunately after this visit I have left the salon after a gel pedicure with crooked streaky gel polish, as well as the skin on my feet still feeling very rough. I went back to get it fixed with gel the next day. No discount but I paid the difference to upgrade to gel. My second time here, I asked them to push the cuticles back. They pushed it back while dry and it hurt like F! The third time, they used a dremel on my cuticles and it frayed. I specifically asked the manager to ask her to soak and push them back and trim. If you're looking around for a nail place, make sure this one's on your list and at least give it a try. I have been here only once and am in the process of booking my second appointment. I have been going to another great nail place closer to my house, but I decided to drive a bit further and give Hydra Nails a try for several reasons. Booking/ environment: I appreciate the availability of online appointment booking with my busy work schedule. Clean, comfortable ambiance, spacious, and close to major shopping areas, so I'm able to take care of errands on my nail days. Service: Everyone was kind and professional. I have to give extra kudos to the gentleman in the front and Leslie. I was trying a new color and doing acrylic for the first time. I felt bad because I didn't expect them to be as helpful as they were. Leslie took her time to help me find a matching color and the gentleman in the front explained the acrylic process and my refill options for my next visit. It could have been a quick, in and out kind of experience, which I always expect, but they definitely went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. So even if others haven't had this exact experience, I think it speaks to their overall customer service standards. Quality: You can see for yourself in the photo. This is exactly 3.5 weeks in, and I'm booking my refill appointment at the 4 week mark. No chipping, peeling, or anything that is bothersome reminding me to go in (aside from the obvious growth). Acrylic was done so well. The powder was applied close to the nail/ flat as I requested. Leslie was very skilled in her application and shaping. Any OCD client would approve of her. I'm so very glad to have accidentally discovered this place! I'd been getting frustrated with the regular salon I was going to because the service had declined and the prices had gone through the roof. I was making the long drive only because I enjoyed meeting my daughter there. Now she joins ME at Hydra Nails & Spa, and she loves it just as much as I do! Last spring I pulled up to my regular salon for an appointment, only to find it closed due to an electric storm taking out the electricity. Very understandable, right? What was NOT understandable was they didn't bother to call and let me know! I'd made the 30 minute drive for no reason. I desperately needed a manicure and just drove around, running errands and keeping my eyes open for a nail salon that could squeeze me in. Wow! Did I hit the jackpot at Hydra Nails! Minnie did my nails while Brian did my pedicure. Both of them were PHENOMENAL. I hate to admit it, but because of an autoimmune disease which often causes me to have rashes on my body, especially on my hands, I can be quite a pain. My skin is sometimes very sensitive, and during those times I can be extra picky; asking to be treated extra gently. I'm also not the best decision maker, so suffice it to say I can be slow and quite a pain to deal with. It's not uncommon for me to get stuck when choosing a color. With a little input from me, Minnie knew EXACTLY the shade to lead me to that would complement my skin, and she knew how to shape my awkward nails where arthritis has distorted the finger bones. Brian was so sweet, kind and accommodating as I explained I wanted the water VERY hot, and that it might take some extra time to remove calluses that build up quickly on my feet, due to misshapen bones from arthritis. Brian helped me feel unashamed about my personal quirks, and he too, was great fininding a color to complement my fingernails. He's just a GREAT GUY! The atmosphere at Hydranails is very chill. There are plants, good music, lots of glass, and the staff are very calm. You never feel rushed or as though you're in their way. The decorative motif at Hydra Nails is very natural- plants in macrame hangers, seasonal decor and book themes. It's a PERFECT atmosphere for me to relax- manipeds in a place that feels like a cozy library! I always ask Brian to do my pedicure while Minnie does my nails, but every nail tech at Hydra Nails & Spa is personable and has high standards! My daughter now always meets me there, and she too, is always pleased. They offer us wine or water to sip while we chat and catch up. I believe they offer soft drinks, too. I don't want them to get overcrowded, but Hydra Nails & Spa on Whitestone/1431 is hands down the best nail salon I've been to in 30+ years!
