Top-of-the-line HVAC for the price of a basic model ! As our desert temperatures rise now in May, I am so grateful we addressed our HVAC problems in February. While I can agree with others who have said any brand of HVAC equipment properly installed and maintained will provide excellent service. My research proved, however, there is a difference ... Comparing cost, unit efficiency, and features, here is my story: A $2,700 estimate to repair my existing system seemed like a bad investment as so far, the 7-year old 13-seer system has required $900 in repairs and replacement parts. The furnace has been trouble-free despite its 22 year age. To that end, I solicited prices on an entire HVAC system, Furnace and A/C with equipment from American Standard, Carrier, Lennox and York from several desert vendors, including one displaying at our area membership warehouse. All were first class in their representation of their products, but one company and one vendor stood out. HYDES and AMERICAN STANDARD For the price of a low-end Lennox system via Costco, I was able to acquire a HIGH-END, HIGH-EFFECIENCY model superior to anything the others provide. Although American Standard is commonly associated with bathroom fittings, a corporate break-up in 2007 resulted in the selling of their plumbing division and a corporate name change to TRANE, who produce HVAC systems under both Trane and American Standard. You may also be familiar with their parent company Ingersoll-Rand. American Standard - better warranty 12 year compressor HYDES provides Parts AND Labor for 10 YEARS with their bi-annual maintenance contract. A typical 2 hour service call would far exceed the maintenance subscription. On offer was a Zero percent financing option for 36 months making this deal extremely attractive. Unbelievably QUIET with variable speed compressor, variable speed outdoor condenser fan and variable speed indoor blower. Talk about COMFORT ! Some local firms have Climate System Representatives who are sales people that evaluate and provide estimates. HYDES sends out a technician and follow up is provided by company owner, Mike Hyde, who along with his brothers operate an extremely well-run organization providing 5-Star Customer Service. I just moved to the Palm Desert from the east coast and noticed that having a top of the line a/c unit is a must out here. I gave Hyde's a call because the current system just wasn't cutting it. One side of the house would be over 80 and the other in the low 70s. I needed multiple zones and different temperatures in the north and south side of the house because the air would just keep running based on where the thermostat was. Mike Hyde and his guys delivered installing 2 brand new highly efficient systems (one of them with multiple zones) to help improve my electric bill over the summer months. I haven't seen the impact just yet because my air is off for the winter, but I can't wait to see the results during the summer and the lower costs on my electric bill. From showing up the first time and going over my options Hyde's was professional, clean and out front with all the different aspects of the work that needed to be done. I purchased a residence in the Coachella Valley four years ago which required a new heating and air-conditioning system. I contracted with Hyde's to install a new American Standard system. In addition I contracted for routine twice annual inspection of this system by their field staff. The technical personnel who installed this system and those who perform routine inspections and service are extremely professional and capable individuals in which I have complete confidence. This system has worked flawlessly throughout subsequent summers with daytime temperatures which exceed 100 degrees daily for months, in some cases approaching 120 degrees. The system was inspected this week by Jonathan, one of their many capable technicians, who as with all their personnel was extremely courteous and informative on all issues relative to the continued superior performance of this system. I just bought a home in Palm Desert and was happy to see a Hyde's AC logo on my thermostat. I immediately called them and got on their $11 a month maintenance plan. The guy who came out was very professional and advised me that performed a regular maintenance and that everything looked good. My AC is only about 7 years old but I am still considering replacing it because of the new high efficiency units available and the great rebates from Edison right now. My brother had his replaced in his house in Palm Desert along with some duct work (and new windows) and his energy bill went from almost $600 to $250 last month! I love that Hyde's really is a family I can trust and they always give honest and up-front answers to my questions. They have never tried to sell me something I don't need and they never try to sugar coat the benefits of the different systems. Hyde's ought to be a Harvard MBA sample case for how to provide exceptional customer service. I just had them install a rooftop central air unit. They get the big things right (top quality American Standard equipment, certified by Edison and So Cal Gas for rebates) as well as the little things. They call ahead and say they are coming. They call you if they are going to be late. Their staff wear booties inside the house. The technicians are polite and professional. They clean up after themselves, they let you know when the are coming and going. I operate my family's apartment buildings for a living. I hire trades every day of the week every day of the year. Hyde's have to be one of the best I have ever encountered. PRICE - I got three quotes, from my "regular guys" the Home Warranty people and Hyde's. Guess what, they were $500.00-$900 lower and the only ones qualified to get me over $2,000.00 in rebates. I would have hired them even if they were more expensive. read more

I had Greg from Hydes come out to diagnose a problem with my air conditioner last Monday. He spent 20 minutes looking at the condenser and running the numbers with his meter. It was a frozen line into the house. He advised us to shut the A/C off but leave the fan on and that he would come back to refill the Freon later that evening. He showed up right when he was planning on, and filled the Freon. A/C started working shortly after. He spent almost an hour at our place that evening to check everything out and was going to stay late to fix another small issue, but it was almost 8pm. I ended up having him come back the next day instead. He fixed it all up and everything is working great. Greg was very courteous and knowledgable in the business and his input was very helpful. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need and worked quickly and efficiently. I would absolutely use Hydes again! read more

This company is very good. Probably around 12 years ago I needed emergency service and I called around until I found Hydes ( they were the only co. that could be at my home within an hour). They solved my AC problem. Over the years I have since found another ac guy that was les expensive. He would always service and fix small problems. This last week my ac unit went out again and my ac guy was out of town (of course). I remembered Hydes and called them. They don't know me but were still out within 2 hours. My unit had a bad cirtuit board. It took the service guy quite awhile to find the problem. But he stuck with it and solved my problem. i'm also in the service business and I appreciated the way he tested the whole system until he located the exact problem. I will still call my ac guy for small things like cleaning it out, but for anything else I wll call Hydes. read more

I have used Hydes since moving to the desert three years ago. I replaced my entire unit in 2013 after the original unit installed 14 years ago died. They have insured the unit works correctly and when it was discovered that a part they provided was not working, they completely replaced that part and another failing part at no additional cost to me. Steve Martin is the service person I have come to trust completely as he explains things to me and insures my system is working properly. I must have a good working system due to a health issue. I got the rebate through the electric company which was initiated by me as required by IID. The County Inspector came out as a result of the permit filing by Hydes and the system passed inspection. Not sure why this was not the case with some of the negative reviews. I have recommended this company to friends. read more

I am writing this review for all potential clients that might need Air Conditioning Servise to not use Hyde's company. I find them unethical and they take advantage of people by over charging for practically doing nothing. I called them to have one of my units check that it seem to not be running the office lady told me it was going to be a $85 charge to have a person check it and the $85 would be applied towards the repair if needed. When the tech showed up he went straight to the circuit breaker and he said that' all it needed to reset it. Then he charged $179, this is outrageous fee, when I disputed he told me I have no choice but paying it. All he did after my conversation, he tried selling me Maintanance service package monthly or yearly fee. This people are all about taking advantage of people. BE AWARE, DO NOT USE THEM. read more

Hydes manager, Michael, just completed a diagnostic on my air conditioner because I wanted just "one more opinion". Three prior companies had visited my home within the past two days, because the air conditioning unit was not working. They informed me that I needed a 5 ton unit split upflow, condensing indoor unit, fan motor and fan blade, which would have been a very costly situation. Michael found the motor running backwards! He corrected the issue and indicated that I do not need what had been indicated by the prior air conditioning companies. And, if I wanted, I could consider such equipment next January. I had a company years ago come out to fix a problem. When the problem was fixed they tested the AC unit and brought the air down to 55 degrees !! I then commented that I had not changed the filter in several years. They responded with a gasp and said this could damage the coils. They opened up the unit and looked at the coils. They then gave me a price quote of $1600 to "fix" it. But you just brought the air down to 55 degrees !! Sooo, I think I'll hold off on that. I switched over to Hyde's and there has never been suggestion to replace the coils for $1600. They do my twice a year service checks for $12 a month, are always available the same day, offer me discounts as a member. Never a worry they'll "find" something that needs "fixing" for $1600. We have used Hyde's to service our A/C Heating since we moved to the desert 3 1/2 years ago and have a maintenance agreement with them. They are prompt and professional. We have been impressed with both Casey and Steve, both of whom are knowledgeable and thorough. Our last service call was with Steve and he is what every business owner would want in an employee. Not only did he do an outstanding job, he went above and beyond to help with a task that I couldn't perform due to a recent injury. He is polite, friendly and answered all of our questions completely. Our equipment is old and he explained our options to upgrade without putting any pressure on us. Our air conditioner died in our vacation home in the desert. My neighbor called to say the unit wasn't kicking on and only the fan was running non stop. I made the 3 hr trip down to turn off the fan and discovered it was 94 degrees inside the house. I knew our unit was 16 years old and called Hydes to see if they could replace the unit. Since it was Labor Day Weekend I didn't have much hope, but Michael Hyde was able to put together a crew to work on Saturday, sent all the paperwork with a fair price and the work was done. Even at this hottest time of the year, they offered to have someone come out that same evening but as it was getting dark I opted for the next day and it was repaired before noon. The associates and service representatives at Hyde are very professional. They came out right away when they were concerned I might have an imminent AC failure. Very professional and Amador, the technician, explained everything thoroughly so I could make well informed decisions about my repair. They have a twice a year maintenance plan that is fair and affordable so that you can plan to have the AC maintained in spring and the furnace maintained in the fall. We've been using Hyde's for our HVAC purchases and maintenance for the past 6 years. They installed a heat pump for us last year and everything is working great. We have an annual maintenance plan where they check on our equipment twice a year. Everyone we've worked with there has been fantastic. Our most current visit was from their technician, Brayan. He was so patient with us in explaining how to use our thermostat app, as well as all of the details of his inspection. I feel confident and comfortable with Hyde's. Hyde's AC installed our American Standard units 5 years ago. Blower motor recently went out, which they said was rare, but it happens. They had a tech (Greg DeFontes) out within 24 hours on a really hot week. He diagnosed the problem immediately, ordered a new motor and had it installed the next day, at all NO Charge!
