Visiting the area for work and saw this coffee shop nearby with close walking distance! Upon entering I was greeted nicely while I decided on what I needed to caffeinate myself with today lol. I went for the Local Honey latte since honey is my go-to when it comes to sweetening up some drinks. I also added an almond croissant to my order as well. My drink was a balance of light and strong. I was expecting a bit more honey/sweetness to it-- but I could definitely taste the hint. I didn't ask to add in more honey since I wanted to enjoy it as it is. I would try their other drinks if I come back! The ambience is one of my favorite things. It's calm, quiet, and super aesthetically pleasing to look at. Love the Canadian flag representation on the wall! Lots of seating too. I'd recommend this place if you need your caffeine!

Huskins is a retail shop located underneath an apartment complex. It is on a street corner so it is visible to traffic. There are about four parking spaces just outside the shop which has a 20 minute limit. The shop is Canadian themed. Apparently the owners are from Canada and so they wanted to bring a little bit of home to the storefront. I tried their hometown latte, which is a maple syrup latte. I asked for half sweet only because I know my sugar tolerance level. It is absolutely delicious. It is a dessert. I know that if I ever want anything that is coffee and maple syrup infused, this is going to be my go to choice. All the housemade syrups sound very good. They also roast in house and you can smell delicious coffee as soon as you walk through the door. The shop has high ceilings and an open floor plan with plenty of seating to work or lounge. It looks like they have a second location on Balboa Island also. If you are a regular, get the punch card. They also have a small food menu. Casual. Good service. Please come and create your own adventure.

Had Huskins on my list for a long time, and man, I've been missing out! Not only is the coffee delicious, but the vibe was relaxing, especially with the super aesthetic decor. Service was fantastic, and parking in the guest/retail garage posed no problems. I ordered a Vanilla Latte, and as basic as it seems, I appreciated how balanced it was. Different from other vanilla lattes in that it was coffee-forward, not too creamy or milky, with a strong vanilla flavor that didn't taste artificial or just straight up sugary. For some reason, it tasted even better the next day. Tastiest drink I've sampled from my friends was the Shaken Espresso. I didn't think anything of it when scanning the menu, but I regret not getting one for myself. Maple and cinnamon weren't overpowering, and it was sweet enough to enjoy without seeming like a dessert drink. Hometown Latte and Hazulnut Latte were also great. I definitely need to try the other espressos on the menu. They also serve a smaller selection of tea and food. From the garage, we walked through some hallways that led to what looked like apartment rooms and small business offices before reaching a sign pointing towards Huskins. It was very quiet and not busy, which added to the chill atmosphere. I really like the drinks and the interior. I truly hope this place sticks around for a long time.

Tried the pumpkin spice iced latte with the pumpkin cold foam since it's in season. The drink went well with the cold foam since it added a bit more of the pumpkin flavor and sweetness to it. My drink came out quick, and there are tables for available to sit. The place is a cute coffee shop to visit!

Part of me wants to gate keep this place before it gets crowded and there's no parking or seating but this is a well earned 5 star review. I had the house latte with maple syrup which was fantastic. Bonus points for being dog friendly. Lots of seating and outlets which makes it great for a work/study space. I absolutely love that they play instrumental music (easy jazz) rather than loud pop music. Barista was kind and friendly. The only con is that this place was hard to find and parking was unclear.

Nice coffee shop, very clean and modern looking. Great place to study or do work. Definitely recommend the butterscotch latte, it was pretty good.

My delicious latte & art.

I love this coffee spot! The lighting is great, the coffee is great, the seating is plenty. The staff was friendly and chatted with my friend and I during our first visit. We stayed here for about 4 hours on a rainy day just getting work done and it was definitely a vibe. The only challenge is parking. There's limited street parking.

Study space 5/5: For rating as a study spot, I would give it a 10/10. It's super spacious with a lot of seating and fairly empty compared to other coffee shops in OC. There is a huge long table where you can set up laptop and multiple books for working. It's very comfortable with comfy seating/chairs. There's ambient lighting and music is not too loud. Great for a study spot other than closing early around 4pm. WiFi went down once but otherwise was fast. Clean bathroom as well. Food/drinks: Matcha latte 3/5 Avocado toast 4/5 Drink itself was not that good. I got a matcha latte. It was very creamy and milky and matcha flavor was not super strong. Avocado toast though was delicious! Parking: Parking can be challenging if you don't read the reviews. Park in the apartment complex adjacent to the coffee shop in spots labeled guest parking. There were plenty of spots when I came on a weekday!

Not one of my favorite coffee spots but I certainly had high hopes. They roast their own beans and all. The place looks like a good place to hang out also. I had the Hometown Latte. Though it was sweet and not overly, I wasn't able to finish it. It was just too bitter for me. I want something smooth without the after taste. I had a sip of the lavender coffee since that person I was with ordered that. All I could take was lavender and no sweetness to it. Though the person behind the counter let us know that we could opt for a redo on our orders, we didn't have the time to try it again. I hope there is a smoother coffee available and if so then the person behind the counter should offer some advice. That would make for good customer service.

Here's the 411 on parking: There is 20 minute street parking which really only works if you're going to take your order to go. I arrived earlier than my friend for our coffee date so I made it a mission to figure out the parking situation. Other Yelp reviews mentioned that there is parking in the Luxury Apartment parking garage, which is true. However, some noted that they were unable to access the parking because the garage entry was closed. I also ran into this issue BUT fear not because there are TWO entrances to the parking garage...just keep driving through until you reach the second entrance. I think it throws people off because it says "Residents Only" for that entry, but ignore the sign like I did and enter anyway. If you drive all the way to the end of the garage you're going to pass "Guest Parking". Do not park here an indicated by other reviews. I did this and went inside Huskins to check with a worker if it was okay for me to park in the Guest Parking spot and he said no. Huskins visitors need to park in spots marked "Retail Parking" by the black pillars. Guest parking is for the residents' guests. I'm glad I checked this. Also, don't do what I did and exit through the door on the left because it takes you outside the building. Go through the door that takes you inside the building and Huskins is going to be at the very end of that hall to the left. I didn't go through that door because it has a card reader, so it looked like it was for resident entry only. Ignore the card reader, the door opens no problem. Whew! A lot of info but I hope this helps someone. For my visit I had the Shaken Espresso and the Breakfast Sandwich. My coffee was delicious. It was strong but not overpowering. The maple and cinnamon balanced it out nicely. Breakfast sandwich was delicious but it's tiny. They give you a packet of Tapatio if you like a little spiciness. Staff were nice and offered water with our coffee. There are a bit of seating options and tables, so it's a nice and quiet place to study. It was a little warm inside though.

This place is located inside a luxury apartment building so it can be difficult to find. We had to go around twice before we saw it. Luckily I was able to find parking on the street but you are supposed to park in the visitors parking. Coffee was very good. Great place to study as it has many tables and was as quiet as a library. Shaken espresso - 10/10 it's on the stronger side which I loved Butterscotch latte - 10/10 simple and delicious not overly sweet

Tahs L.

I love a coffee shop that roasts their own beans. This place had great service and house made syrups which is the best. I got a vanilla chai and it was a bit spicy but not too sweet. Their coffee is a bit sharp so if you are not into that then maybe get the matcha which is delicious and flavorful. Overall a clean and quiet place to sit back and relax.

Tammie W.

Huskins has a unique menu with homemade syrups like butterscotch, lavender, and their maple latte being the most popular. It's tastefully decorated as an ode to Canada, there's an ample amount of smaller tables, and one large community table to sit at. On our visit, I ordered a dirty chai which had a nice spice to it, though I should've asked for no cinnamon on top. My husband ordered a drip which was nicely balanced and got an iced butterscotch latte to go. We also grabbed a couple of beans to go, which were weighed and sealed on the spot. The service is absolutely top notch and every business should look to Huskins to see how good their service is.

Ask the Community - Huskins Coffee

Do you make your own concentrate for your chai latte?

What are your holiday hours? I just tried to grab some coffee and the doors were locked.

Hi there, so sorry about that, our espresso machine broke down. We have a team on site working on repairs and will be ready to reopen tomorrow. Apologies again and hope you’re having a great holiday season! -Kent Huskins

Hi! Are the almond croissants baked in house?

Hi there, thanks for the question! We don’t have the capacity to bake in-house so all of our pastries are delivered from Crema, a commercial bakery in Irvine. Thanks again, Kent Huskins

Are there outlets to plug in to around the seating area?

Thanks for asking! Yes, we have outlets built in the floor, on the walls and underneath the tabletop of the community table.

I drive past your business at least four times a week but it looks like there is minimal parking... Where do I park?

Hey Sean, there are four spots marked “20 minutes” near our shop on Cabrillo Park Drive. The 20 minute rule is not enforced so you can park there as long as you like. There are also 6 designated retail parking spaces inside the Nineteen01 condo… Read more

There were about 3 people ahead of me in line and a few waiting for drinks, but I was able to order and get my drink in around 10 minutes. Staff was very friendly and checked in with us while waiting in line! I ordered the Matcha Two, which comes as a matcha latte topped with salted matcha vanilla cream foam. The foam was velvety and creamy. The matcha had a smooth, earthy flavor with subtle sweetness. Oatmilk was the default choice, and while I usually think oatmilk can overpower matcha, it worked well in this drink. It is a little pricey for 1 drink, but that also seems to be the norm these days for specialty drinks. This is more of a grab-and-go spot than a place to hang out. There's no seating, just a bench inside, and everyone waited outside since the interior is on the smaller side. Parking was easy when I went. Overall, a pleasant experience for a yummy matcha drink, and I'd definitely come back to try more of their matcha menu!

Service was average. Expect to wait about 10 minutes with average customer volume as they spend more time of curating each drink. 4/5 largely based on coffee as I feel the customer experience can be improved. One piece of feedback is that the menu should be reorganized. There are espresso drinks on several of the menu panels but then one space specifically that is titled espresso drinks which would imply the others don't have espresso. For example, the house specialties are listed on a completely separate panel as the espresso drinks, would've like to order one of those had I known they were offered. Essentially you have to read the whole menu with the way it's currently organized you can't just search for tea or coffee sections or you'll likely miss something Importantly you can't study or work here. They intentionally don't have wifi or outlets available to foster a different customer experience. Many of the clientele were reading or knitting which was pleasant. While I support this, it's not made know to customers by signs or anything - you would have to look on Yelp beforehand to know. In addition, I've been to other Kean branches that offered wifi so unless this is a new policy or the branches are owned independently it's important to make customers aware they can't expect the internet at this location in particular. I was caught off guard and had to leave immediately as I needed wifi at the time which was unfortunate. Seats about 25 inside, patio also available. Bathroom under lock and key. Parking is in l shopping center, no issues.

I had expected the business to be in a more high volume area, however a benefit of their corner spot was that the parking lot had plenty of spaces. There's no indoor seating, but outdoor tables were set up along the north and east perimeters of the building. I was by myself at this latest visit, and it was close to the end of the day so the inventory was quite depleted. There was no line at all which was not a surprise. The famous Strawberry Croissants and prepackaged items were on refrigerated display to the left when you walked in. As the service counter rounded a corner, there were more fresh baked goods on display before you reached a register. Across from the registers were shelves containing bags of fresh bread products. I bought a Strawberry Croissant, a Sticky Bun, a Ham and Cheese Croissant, and an Apple Croissant. The quality of the pastry dough was very good, and I could see why the Strawberry Croissant was a favorite with the customers. The croissants were light and flakey, and the powdered sugar added a delicate topping to the strawberry version. If I were to rate on just the Strawberry Croissant, then it would be five stars. My overall rating was downgraded because of the customer traffic flow. The lines can be optimized so that if you wanted to buy a six-pack of the Strawberry Croissants and/or anything prepackaged, then a separate queue should be arranged for those customers. The cafeteria trays were of limited use if you were not getting a large number of items. As you advanced in the queue, other products had to be requested from a worker behind the counter and then those were not placed on the tray. Ultimately, I think they can configure the operation to more efficiently handle the higher volume periods of the day.
