Can I tell you how cool this place is? It is the perfect blend of great product, great service and great humor. I mean when someone told me about this place I thought it was that old set up to get punched in the arm. Find out that yes indeed, it really is a donut shop. Who knew? The donuts are a bit pricey but they are huge, made with lots of toppings and utterly delicious. I've been three times in this visit and I'm even taking a dozen for the road. Do many flavors. They are open all night! Service was excellent, and the donuts were delicious! The Apple fritters were on point!

What a fun place! We were there at about 9pm on a Friday night and there were people there of all ages. The place was very clean and run like a well oiled machine. Smells decadent when you walk into the place. The kitchen is an open environment and allows you to see the donuts being made which is interesting. The decor is whimsical and fun to read. There are display cases that allow you to see the various types of donuts that are available and what they look like. I wasn't aware that most of them are what are called "cake donuts". I'm not into cake, nor frosting, but I was there with others so I dared to get a caramel chocolate donut and they got various others. We each had a bit of each others, and that's where I learned about the cake donuts. I wasn't impressed. I'm an odd-ball, I know, but I don't care for overly sweet things and this includes frosting. The specialty donuts just aren't for me as I didn't really like any of them due to the frosting, and they are somewhat like a "cake", instead of a true donut. If I do go again, I'd just get a donut as regular as you can get, but then the question is, "Why bother going here then?". read more

We've tried donuts at this location twice! First time we went all out and tried many of the "fun" flavors. Our kiddos loved the crazy choices... Cookie Monster for our 5 year old, she loved it! The Homer (pink with sprinkles) for our 3 year old, he also loved it. For me, I ordered the Andes mint, it was too strong and I felt like it made the whole box of donuts take on a mint flavor. Also the actual donut tasted a bit old (definitely not super fresh). We tried a peanut butter cup one too, it was ok! The next time we went in, we went with glazed and chocolate long John... they were amazing!!!! So maybe I don't love the crazy flavors! Definitely personal preference. Yum!!! Absolutely love this place. I've been to the Coralville location a couple of times and was so excited to find out they were coming to the QC. They have a fun, light hearted atmosphere and delicious, unique doughnuts. We got a salted caramel and an Oreo cheesecake doughnut. Both are indulgent and delicious. Service is quick and friendly. I was so thrilled to see that the Quad Cities - Bettendorf location of HURTS DONUT CO. was up and running! My previous experience with the company was when a friend driving from Coralville (their location in Iowa City) let me see his box of Hurts Donuts. The donut flavor FLAVORS are enough to make one salivate! Another amazing perk is that Hurts Donut Co. is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or as they like they put 25/8. :-) I happened to come into the new location in Bettendorf around 2-3 AM, and I was happily greeted by one of the amazing employees who was on her break. I told her it was my first time at a Hurts Donut Co. She was kind of enough to end her break early and give me a tour of their flavors, how they work, my buying options, and was more than happy to answer all of my questions about the 40+ different flavors they have to offer! I couldn't believe how kind the entire staff was. I ended up walking away with a "Hurts Dozen", where they pick out an assortment of 12 donuts for you. Such flavors as pink lemonade, bubble gum, Homer, S'Mores, Oreo cheesecake, Cookie Monster, Bart Simpson, Blueberry streusel, Apple pie, Long Johns, Cherry Pie, Slim Shady...etc...and so many more! After my first experience - all I can say is that I'd love to meet the owners of HURTS DONUT CO. because they sound like the coolest + most fun people to work with! So first off; the thing about a Doughnuttery (I refuse to partake in the degradation of the English language that 'Donut' signifies) is that you'd expect to have the products be fresh. I arrived at 10:30 am and was met with a stale doughnut. Nothing fancy, it was a basic glaze, because I feel that the classics never go out of style (unless it's revealed via documentary that a singer like Michael Jackson is a monster, in which case I will in fact co sided Billie Jean out of style and remove from my "lunchtime jamzzz" Spotify playlist). But it wasn't fresh, which seemed off for a specialized shop. Also, they offer a special Cop Doughnut; which is annoying. I hope there's one for garbage men, who perform just as vital a public service while being far less appreciated, being more likely to be injured in the line of duty, and shoot WAY less unarmed minorities. Hurts Donuts consistently have yummy donuts and other sweet treats! They have a wide variety of donuts and I have not tried one I have not liked. My favorite is either their fritters or their apple pie donuts. I docked one star because they are a bit pricey but the price is worth it if you only go every once in awhile. About the same price as you would pay for a Krispy Kreme at a gas station -- but MUCH higher quality. Quite frankly, I have no idea how they keep their donuts so fresh and at all hours... donuts tend to go bad after a few hours, so they must be constantly pumping out fresh new donuts (or have a secret method to maintain freshness? The donuts are good, no complaints in that department. However, there were two big issues, one of which seems to be more common these days - first the customer service. You would think it goes without saying, but perhaps this should be included in orientation. When a customer approaches, you should greet them with "how may I help you?". Instead, they look at me with a blank stare, and treat me like I'm trying to sell them overpriced specialty donuts. If theres no dress code, and they can where whatever grungy clothes they want, that's cool, but would it kill them to greet you with a friendly smile? Or is that a thing of the past?
