It's hard to give one comprehensive numeric rating for a restaurant that does some things excellently, but leaves other things to be desired. But I'll settle for a 3. Hunter Gather, you were A-okay! Let's start with the pros: the beef brisket was melt-in-your-mouth! I saw some reviews that complained about it being too fatty, but I got it in sandwich form, and it was incredible. My biggest tip for HG is to switch the standard brioche bread of the brisket sammy to the rustic baguette. Brioche, with its soft nature, gets too soggy for the juicy brisket. The pulled pork sammy was also delectable, according to my tablemates. A standout was the Pemberton potato salad! The cons: the wilted greens were less than stellar. It tasted like cold boiled kale tossed in a minimal amount of some peanut/sesame dressing. I wish it had been more like a warm kale salad - perhaps roasted instead of blanched, with a bright and creamy vinaigrette. One of my dining companions ordered the Pemberton bowl, which seemed like an eclectic salad with so many different components that didn't always go together so harmoniously. A slightly tarter, bolder dressing might have helped tie things together. So, some pros and some cons, but when I'm back in Whistler, I would definitely come back to order the brisket sandwich on a baguette! read more

Love this spot in Whistler Village. This is one of my favorite go-to places when visiting. You don't need to reserve months ahead to get a table (no rez taken), the food is excellent, great craft beer is waiting for you on tap, service is friendly and the value is there. Given it is BBQ, it caters to meat eaters more, but there are plant based options too. I wish there were more casual places in the Village - everything is set up these days for the big spender meals for international travelers and for fast food. You may have to wait for a table, but it is worth it. Or, you can take out and enjoy it where you are staying. Definitely recommended! read more

Its not very visible. It's at the very end of the street but it's definitely worth looking for. Modern, industrial decor, not so comfortable metal chairs. Tables are really well spaced out for covid. The ordering arrangement is strange but they're clearly well organized. The host pointed us to an empty table, brought over menus and said order at the counter when we're ready. Beer came out quickly after ordering, and food followed not long after. The 18-hour smoked rubbed grass-fed brisket was amazing! Generous portion of meat, great flavor and texture. The pulled pork sandwich was lovely too. It's done "grilled cheese" style. It wasn't overflowing with meat like I'm used to with the brioche/coleslaw version, but the cheese was tasty, toast nicely crisped, and overall delicious. Solid selection of craft beers on tap from local and BC breweries. The crowds came in waves so not really predictable. It's a large space and can accomodate plenty of people. Probably the only place in Whistler that offers bbq type food. However after reading the previously positive reviews there must have been a change recently that made the quality of the food such contradictory to the reviews so far. We ordered the platter for 2 and the food arrived looking delicious and spot-on. However the reality everything just tasted a little off and looked better than they tasted: Ribs: these were bone dry and over cooked. We did not even take them with us in the takeaway box because there was no way of salvaging them. Wings: also really dry - I'm not sure if it's the dry rub they are using but they are just not enjoyable. Brisket: probably the best out of the meat options, actually pretty juicy! Pulled pork: it was okay Coleslaw: this was not great either, being a primarily vinegar based coleslaw it was very bland, could use more seasoning with a more sour kick to it to offset the richness of the predominantly meat dishes! Mini buns: these are fine, just 4 little buns are not sufficient for the platter One big issue I have is their bbq sauce - it tasted almost like watered down Kraft bbq sauce you can get at the grocery store. Pretty disappointing that a restaurant known for its bbq has such weak bbq sauce, could really have made a difference for the rest of the meal if they could get their bbq sauce a little more memorable! I would also recommend skipping the gravy, watery and not quite flavorful at all. I guess the potatoes were okay but you can't really mess up deep fried potatoes anyway. One key positive call out is that they have a good selection of beer on tab, so long story short, come here for a drink and maybe go somewhere else for a bite. read more

Awful dining experience. Like they set out to create the ambiance of a dying mall's food court except make the acoustics worse, then make it louder than an airplane taking off. Every surface is cold and hard. I had no idea "cole slaw" could be this bad. Throwing dry, coarsely chopped cabbage on a plate does not make it cole slaw. The fried cod was mostly batter. The gimmick of smashed fried potatoes doesn't really work. They would do better focusing on making quality steak fries. The ketchup-like sauce is also a fail. The combination of ground beef and pork does, however, make a good burger. read more

JUST WOW! For Mother's Day trip I chose a few restaurant for my mom and fiancé to pick. My fiancé really wanted to try this place. Even though I did my research and this place had a lot of good reviews and pictures look good, but I chose other cuisines too and North American just seems boring. I was skeptical of first but my fiancé really wanted to go so we went. The host was super upbeat and friendly. You have to order up front and the guy who took our order was a bit impatient. Clean place and lots of seats but always busy. You can take it to go as well. 3 washrooms and pretty clean. We didn't get any drinks because we had to drive and we drank the night before, but would love to go back and try next time. The food was amazing like the flavour melts in your mouth. The portion is just right and a bit on the pricier side but for the quality it's worth it. I was full after my plate but wanted to order more just so the flavour stays. Quite tucked away spot, with a very quiet and secluded patio. Nice touch with planters in the middle of the patio tables, with flowers in bloom. The COVID protocols for this restaurant are good, with hand sanitizer, QR code menus and a self serve order process. The menu is on the more expensive side, but the ingredients are fresh. We ordered the meat platter for 2, which was huge and came with an assortment of meat, slider buns, sides and sauces. The Pemberton bowl was very fresh and the thin miso dressing was light which made the taste of the vegetables stand out. The crispy tofu was very crispy, unlike anything that I've had, which was delightful. I ordered online a gf burger. The waiter told me that the smashed potatoes are cooked in the fryer with other stuff and they were not gluten free. They also did not have gluten free buns. Wow - great food, beer, and service here. My wife and daughter and I had dinner here at around 7 pm on a Wednesday. Got seated right away and we ordered via their website. Ambience was great, however the Brisket sandwich was just lacking in tenderness and flavor. While it was decent and enjoyable after a long day of skiing, it was nothing special. My friend and I stumbled across this restaurant as we were walking through the village area. We decided to give it a try on our last night in Whistler. We had a long day of hiking and relaxing at a spa before coming, and arrived five minutes before 9 PM, their closing time. We were unsure if they would allow us to be seated so late, but to our pleasant surprise, we were greeted with a warm welcome and were provided with wonderful service throughout our meal! Everything we ordered was delicious! We started with the jalapeño cornbread which had a nice kick to it and a bold sweet corn flavor. We also shared the lamb sandwich and noodle salad which were both unique combinations of flavors. They also had a list of craft beers which were perfect to go with the comfort food! After reading the previous review from a patron that was posted on the same day, we still decided to give this place a try. Bad decision. Amazingly, we ordered the Grants Platter for 2 online and the food was ready and packed in exactly 15 min. But thats the bad part...what does that mean? The only way bbq is ready in 15 min is because its all precooked and just sitting under heat lamps or in an warming oven..waiting for the next poor sap to order it. The best part of the items in that platter was probably the brisket. However, thats not saying much. The reviewer immediately before me mentioned that items were underseasoned and that the sauces etc did nothing. He was right on the money. The wings were the worst...dryer than sand in the desert. The bbq and garlic sauces, beans, cornbread, slaw were all substantially underwhelming. Straightup ketchup would be better. If this platter was to showcase what this restaurant offers...i would stay away. Spend your money somewhere else. This was on a long weekend..and with covid, one would expect it to be very busy..with people staying close to home. It wasn't. The owners of this restaurant needs a kick in the rear or perhaps Gordan Ramsey needs to swoop in and revitalize this restaurant. I saw a sign at the till...Tripadvisor..best new restaurant ..2018. We walked right past it was tough to find. We cued up and looked at the board and the craft beer board. We sat outside at a pretty table with Pine in the middle. We ordered inside and put a number at our table and were served. The ribs were delicious they melted off the bone and then smash potatoes were wonderful. Poutine came with potatoes instead of fries which seems pretty atypical to me, but I'm an American so what do I know. Flavors were great with cheese curds and sauce, not too salty or overwhelming. Chowder was delicious as well. Ribs looked good, unfortunately didn't even get to try them before my sister finished everything. There's a full service bar in the center of the restaurant as well - I don't drink but others looked like they really enjoyed their orders. We understand everybody tries to put thier own spin on dishes but not sure anybody actually tasted them before putting them on the menu. My boyfriend usually likes his food cold so for him to complain proves that it was extremely cold. We both ordered Benny's and they both came with relatively no hollandaise sauce. My pulled pork was better than his because of the sauce. But his smoked bacon Benny's was very dry. We had to pay before eating and I wouldn't have tipped if I knew it would be this cold and dry. The place looks like it caters for the evening crowd but they serve breakfast and lunch items albeit a bit limited. They have bennys (a play on eggs benedict) with different preparations. Their benny needs to come with a warning. The servings are HUUUGE. But we still managed to finish it. Their coffee is fresh and hot.
