Hungry Ghost was great! Popped by on a snowy Saturday morning for a coffee. I enjoyed a delicious iced vanilla latte (forgot to take a pic before I drank some). Plenty of seating and very cozy. Quick service, though there was only one barista so Im not sure what it'd be like when it's super busy. When I went around 11am it was chill. Great place to study or meet up with a friend. Easy to find and near a lot of other great shops in the Williamsburg area. Definitely would go again! read more

Really nice looking, expansive coffee shop. Went in today to pick up a double shot of espresso to go. Cost was 4.00 and I left a 1.00 tip. After I left I took a look at the espresso and it didn't even look like a single shot. I went back in to question if this small amount was actually a double shot. She said it was they always pull double shots. I went around the corner to Fortunato Brothers and bought a double shot their double shot was a true double shot. Terrific coffee house with a super chill vibe and decor. Music in morning was cool and played on a lower volume which was nice as I wasn't totally awake yet. They serve delicious Stumptown coffee and an iced cup did the trick along with a buttery fresh croissant. The place itself is pretty large, open, and clean. So many spots to sit at with leather couches, communal wooden table, and individual tables for two. Funky art and plant wall too. Such a comfy atmosphere here to enjoy a cup of coffee, or to being your computer and get some work done with the free wifi. Clean bathroom too. If you're looking for a huge an unassuming coffee shop in East Williamsburg, look no further than this Hungry Ghost location off of Grand street. Conveniently located off the L/G line, this spot boasts lots of space as well as modern decor which makes it an ideal space to work from. We visited this location on a weekend during the morning and there was only two other people inside. We went to the counter in the back and I ordered an iced coffee, which was around four dollars. The wooden furniture and lush green wall gives this place a comfortable vibe without it trying too hard. I'd suggest visiting if you have the chance! read more

Probably one of the worst dirty chais I've ever had, and the pastry I got was about stale (it was like 10 am...). The one thing I will say is the space is HUGE and great for working. Closing time - does this place close at 8pm (as listed everywhere - yelp, google, website) or at 7pm as indicated by the barista turning off all the lights with no warning?? Also, does that mean the tables will get cleaned in the dark? Will they get cleaned at all? This cafe is usually pretty great, but just turning off all the lights like that and then taking another 10 minutes to begrudgingly turn them back on is just rude. Besides being the only place in the neighborhood that opens early , they are delicious and (if you are an oat milk matcha lover) they use 5 grams of matcha in their small matchas unlike most places 2-3 grams. So usually I have to ask baristas to make my matcha taste more like matcha. While hungry ghost proportions are perfect. They are super nice too. Unlike some seriously rude people at variety. I prefer my drinks to be made with love :D No shade on variety's staff at this neighborhood . Latte was on point. It tasted smooth and creamy. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that the milk could have been more warmer but whatever. It looked also like a great place to chill so I'm happy that this cafe opened here and it's literally off graham avenue L train station. The Brooklyn coffee shop scene can be a pain: beautiful, succulent-covered coffee shops with great coffee and natural light... but swarming with people and not enough seating or outlets. But Hungry Ghost is not this! My favorite Saturday morning thing to do is grab a bagel from the Bagel Store and then come here for a vanilla oat milk latte and work on my laptop. They play great low-key hip hop music (but last time I went they played salsa and other Latin music, which was awesome), the space is not too crowded, has lots of pretty plants, and reliable wifi. I picked up avocado toast to go - there are red stains on cardboard plate for a dish with no red ingredients, which means they gave me a dirty and used to go container. The toast is not toast, it's untoasted wet and very soggy. This is overpriced and beyond annoying. read more

A couple of weeks ago, I went into this coffee shop after dropping off my daughter at school next door. I ordered a coffee and cake and had it all there while I worked. I then left to go attend a class at her school and came back about 45 min later to work some more. After a little while, the manager (I think) came up to me and asked if I needed anything to drink. I said no, that I had already had something earlier. This was the same guy who took my order and who I paid. Along with the same barista who made my coffee while I stood in front of her and waited. A couple of minutes later he came back up to me and accused me of lying, saying that he and the barista have been there since 6am and I did not buy anything, publicly humiliating me in front of all the patrons around me. I asked him if he'd like to see my receipt and he said he'd love to see my receipt as he stormed off. The man sitting next to me was so appalled that he told me he will never go back there again himself. I pulled up my receipt, walked to the back and showed him and he had nothing to say. Nothing. No apology. It was shocking. I obviously gathered all my belongings and left and subsequently wrote on twitter and facebook and STILL no apology. Reading other reviews, it seems this manager has been a douche to others well. There are a plethora of amazing coffee shops in the neighborhood; don't waste your time or money at this one. read more

I came here because I had received a gift card for this place. I had originally gone to the location off church st, but there was limited space. The staff at that location recommended this location to me and so I gave it a shot. It really is a lovely space and atmosphere; there's plenty of seating and the music selection was top-notch. The food was fine. The coffee was fine. The staff was underwhelming to me. I didn't feel like they were especially hospitable. One of the staff was unable to get my gift card to be charged and I felt like he was being a little passive aggressive in telling me that it wasn't working. I ended up figuring it out for him. The coffee is great (as are the baked goods) however, the tatted up white guy who has mainly been running things during COVID-19 has such a sour attitude. It's truly remarkable how negative he is every single time. He is also a tyrant about people exiting the building immediately. I totally get protecting his safety and ours but it's way more of a power play at this point. He'd rather stand outside and smoke than have a moment of pleasantries while the customers put their straws into their to-go cups. Not my vibe. read more

I think this place is a good and welcome addition to the neighborhood, it's easy on the eyes and super comfortable to be in. The barista's are super kind. A lot of open space. They even carry a few vegan pastries! But for this tea drinker it is very much a coffee place. In fact it's the first I've ever been to that doesn't have English Breakfast on their tea list. I'm certain the tea company they stock, a good one, (SerendipiTea) has an English Breakfast. I was told they have Darjeeling "which is basically the same thing". Which of course it isn't. I usually just get a large coffee to go and they have a punch card so the 10th one is free. Lot's of plants and places to chill out.
