This is a smaller Oslo, compared to their Roebling location. It's great for a quick grab and go. I appreciate the outdoor seats when it's a bit warmer. I wouldn't say anyone is overly friendly but they all make a great espresso pull and latte art! Pastries are decent and sell out pretty early so really morning is key. read more

She is definitely racist against Hispanics. She has no customer service skills and has treated me cold before however have never slammed my coffee on the counter. Our favorite coffee experience in Brooklyn. They used a piston machine which absolutely fascinated me as a coffee connoisseur, so we asked and he was kind enough to explain it. Honestly, it DID make a better cup of coffee than the semi-automatic machines normally used in cafes. The cortado was a little thicker and silkier than normal cortados. I have a very low tolerance for caffeine. One cup will make me seem nervous and jittery, not unlike a heroin addict. So if you see me, and I look strung out...it's, uh, the coffee. Right. Disregard that syringe dangling from my arm, too. It's nothing. Despite this affliction, I happen to spend a lot of time in coffee shops, and I've discovered that I enjoy a nice chai latte every once in a while. Don't judge me. Oslo's chai latte is delicious. The service is quick and efficient, if not friendly. The latter doesn't particularly bother me, as long as the former is true. However, two aspects of this place keep me from wanting to spend extended amounts of time here: 1. Interesting musical choices: It was obscure rock, verging on metal. I didn't really dig it, and it was not exactly soothing. 2. There's no bathroom: If people are drinking things, they will need to go to the bathroom. You can quote me on that. read more

Happened to read an article on the Oat Milk recall while there and expressed concern to the barista for the ordered drink and asked for replacement or refund. Her only response was "then don't order an oat milk drink if there's a recall". She also acted irritated during the initial order as if we weren't the only customers there. Went here on a whim and it is now my favorite coffee I've had in NYC. The flavor is just so smooth! I almost wish I had gotten an espresso just so I could really *get* the flavor. I got a latte and my boyfriend got an iced mocha. Both were great. So I live 2 floors above Oslo Coffee Roasters on 326 Bedford Avenue. I have been living here for 8 years, a year or two before Oslo opened up. They are blasting intense music every morning at 6 am and every evening between 7 and 8pm. It's terrorizing the entire building. Neighbors are literally losing it. I feel bad for the old couple who lives right above them. They are well into their 80s and they do not know about Yelp or about calling 311. If you care at all about the locals from Williamsburg please do not go to Oslo. Black Brick is just a block away and they not only have better coffee, but they are also respectful people. However, what they seem to be lacking is the ability to serve you without betraying a feeling of patronizing superiority.. The most condescending coffee makers on Bedford. You may have a PhD in coffee but you have a preschool diploma in customer service. Sort out your attitude, you are making coffee on an oversized kettle... that's all! Bedford Baking, Black Brick and Verb are much nicer places you will actually want to go back to. Oslo only when the other places are closed. read more

A nearby coffee house is a small, good thing. At least it can be. It is also, today, a rare thing. With the sprawl of Starbuck's, the comfortable propinquity of a neighborhood café has become as endangered as the cobbler, the knife sharpener or the watch repairman. So I am fortunate to be about 50 strides from one of the best coffee houses in Brooklyn. Or am I cursed? Oslo Coffee Co. has two locations: the first is a large store strewn with magazines and tables and woven by well-traversed airiness on Roebling Avenue in south Williamsburg; the second is a small shop with bar minimalist bar seating in north Williamsburg, on Bedford, near my apartment. The baristas move between the two workplaces with surprising fluidity. This gives each shop familiarity and allows me to tip on a can-do basis, alternating change and dollar bills to ensure an even 25% that, I believe, baristas deserve. This also means that the baristas I find infelicitous and fickle pop into my life when I would have them elsewhere. This is a problem. Oslo has at least three baristas who, if I see them and can make it to the next point in my life without extracurricular stimuli, deter my patronage. And this is painful. Oslo makes my second favorite espresso drink: a cortado. Other places can make it, but Oslo advertises their skill in this area and thereby encourages one to enjoy this creamy drink. A cortado is an espresso tempered with steamed milk without foam. Oslo adds a bit of decorative foam for the efficacy of foam art, a leaf or a heart, but the steamed milk cuts the acidity of espresso deliciously. When I see the barista whose sobriquet will be "J" I saunter in and enjoy his cheerful banter; when I peer in and witness the barista who will be called "X" I speed my gate and usually settle for a frustration and discontent. Occasionally, I order an iced coffee drink. Oslo has the best Iced Coffees, and they seem prouder of those than their cortado. The iced latte is a real treat made with organic, Clover brand milk. Iced coffee and café au lait is made with chilled coffee so that the buyer is not left with a watered down drink. There are also specials such as the curious "rocket" which claimed to bear four espresso shots in a coffee with steamed milk and caramel. I passed that experiment in re-animation alchemy but found it utterly fascinating. "J" informed me it was quite popular. The espresso is delicious, but Oslo does not roast their own beans, so they are dependent on the selection and quality of their purveyors. The product is consistent, however. The macchiato is served with a careful dollop that melts like butter in thick, earthenware espresso cups that keep the aromatic brew at the proper temperature throughout drinking and idling. Oslo sells coffee by the pound and can grind to taste in an antique grinder that comes straight out of a Felini film. T-shirts of inscrutable purpose (Japanese bunny-people printed on teal Ts escape my interpretive skills and perhaps the skills of anyone less than Chomsky or Bloom) sell at a glacier pace. J had never sold one and seemed surprised that they were still pinned up to the wall, like archaic ciphers or graffiti hieroglyphs. Besides the HR problems, Oslo is a real boon. In many ways their shady hiring policies serve to monitor my coffee intake and that fiscal category I fail to monitor: out-of-pocket, unexpected necessities. read more

I just love the coffee here - I don't even bother with fancy espresso drinks or chai teas - I just get a plan old cup of house here & it's enough to keep me charged till at least 10am. The coffee shop is pretty tiny, so I usually get mine to go - however, it does have enough space to have a conversation or work on a laptop if it's not too busy. I wish they had Wi-Fi. They have a limited selection of pastries here - I tried the zucchini muffin and found it kind of dry and stale tasting. Oslo is a very simple café. No frills, not much seating, very small shop. But in terms of coffee, it delivers. Despite living so close, I only started going after it was mentioned in a Grub Street diet article. I buy almost the same thing each time: a pound of either Thor or Freya (bonus points for the nerdiness of these names). I'm not a pretentious coffee drinker. I like Starbucks coffee, I like Trader Joe's coffee, and I like Stumptown coffee. So what keeps me coming back to Oslo for coffee beans? Their ridiculously genius deal of a free drink with the purchase of a pound of coffee. I know it sounds absurd, I could just BUY a drink like a normal person. But I know I wouldn't without that incentive. And the drinks are awesome each time. I've only gotten coffee drinks (iced, regular, café au lait, red eye), but they all deliver the necessary kick to my brain. Even better, last time I was there, I saw they had hemp milk! This place rocks. Jeff's beard will blow your mind. John will froth you silly. Alex will smile all your cares away. Austin will rock your face. One of the best mochas I've had, and I've had many. Consistency, frothniess, and the amount of chocolate (which usually gets f'ed up one way or another) all get top marks. I know they roast their own coffee but hell, they must suck at roasting too. The cappuccino I had I think was prepared with bad quality beans because it was too roasted. I like the other location better for lounging, although they do have newspapers to peruse here, but I'd feel guilty (I'd get caught) about stealing their newspaper. So. Maybe my expectations were low again. Maybe the talk, haranguing of all the various Yelpers complaining about the service and lattes irked me. Maybe that's why I didn't post this for an entire week after I actually went to the place. However... I stumble in here, randomly, a place a friend of mine suggested but I had not yet had a chance to explore myself. I'm an espresso/black coffee guy. There was a piston machine. So, natural progression has me going there immediately to check it out. To boot, the empty store and the open window overlooking a quieter-but-still-peopled section of Bedford means I'm there. And what I got: Simply, if not one of the best shots I've had, a close, "I don't know but he's a dead ringer for his brother" relation to it. And by that I'm having a hard time identifying what might have been better. I must have lounged here, reading my Herzog in the window, for a good hour and a half. Again, it was quiet. But dammit, something this good shouldn't be downgraded for clientele or the "oh, they fucked up my coffee drink that was trying to disguise the taste of my coffee drink" mentality (and really, New York, you guys are killing me with this, which is something I'd expect more from, say, Phoenix). But I'm a snob, and it's all about the standards. This review might change at some point, but for now, this is my gold-standard shot in NY. read more

For holidays with family I always bring a pound of Odin with me and everyone in my family is now obsessed with Oslo. When they come to visit the neighborhood they now make a stop to grab a few pounds of beans to take home. Oslo also provides a friendly environment for neighbors to interface.
