I found this place when looking for somewhere to work a few weeks back and decided to try it out and really enjoyed the experience! Staff was incredibly friendly and the cold brew was very nutty, which is how I like it. The raspberry croissant was solid and I sat here for a few hours working (until a horsefly flew inside from the nearby park and I left because I didn't want to get bitten ). High remarks for the raspberry croissant, but was less enthused about the chai, average service, and lack of enforcement on spacing. Granted, Hungry Ghost is busy and always busy - anytime you walk by there's a crowd - but the business definitely shows in the staff. Nothing necessarily wrong with being quiet and busy, I'm but the bland service just doesn't win any additional points from me, where my 4 and 5 star ratings often entail above average service). Additionally, the enforcement of spacing was decent when I first arrived, but more and more people kept coming in to where we definitely weren't all 6 feet apart (even though we did have masks). A "hey, we're above capacity, please wait outside" would have been good to see. With that said - loved the raspberry croissant. Would totally get it again, and recommend it. The chai on the other hand was average. I feel the best chai lattes have a great blend of sweet and spice, and chais on the lower end are either too sweet or all chai spice. Adorable coffee shop! This location is a very short walk from the Grand Army Plaza subway stop; it was perfect for grabbing a cup before walking through Prospect Park! Today, a friend and I decided to spend our holiday morning drinking iced matchas and walking Prospect Park top to bottom. The matchas were delicious! The barista measured the amount of matcha using a scale, which is far more trouble than many coffee shops will go to when brewing tea. Hungry Ghost is very small (at least this location is), so don't expect to go sit down or work "from home" at the cafe, but definitely get yourself a cup and enjoy it at the Grand Army Plaza fountain! Hungry Ghost has been on my coffee hit list for a while, and I finally made it to their Park Slope location. It's a cute little shop with all the typical options for coffee. I was pretty boring and stuck with a small iced almond milk latte with an extra shot (basically like a large but with less milk) and it was a whopping $7.80. This is Brooklyn people! But something inside me loves paying outrageous prices for coffee. I'll stop in again when I'm in the hood for sure, but I'll probably settle for a large almond milk latte for $5.50. read more

Went for coffee here and the ladies working behind the counter weren't very friendly. I ordered drip and my fiancée ordered a latte. As we were completed our order we noticed the barista was pinching espresso off of the porta filter with her fingers. Then one of the ladies handed a bottle of oat milk to a customer and took it back. With Covid running rampant over NYC, we'd expect a bit more conscientious practices to avoid spreading germs. Super sad that this location of Hungry Ghost makes the worst version of matcha lattes that I've ever had (yes, Dunkin is way better!). I've had matcha lattes at the Cobble Hill location-- and it became my favorite, prompting me to buy myself a HG gift card during covid. Just off Prospect Park on Flatbush lies this outpost of The Hungry Ghost coffee shop. It is a cozy little shop, that has some pastries and stuff, but the focus here is the coffee. I had an espresso. It was just the right temperature (warm/hot, not scalding/lava hot) and smooth without a bitter finish. The staff was friendly served up the coffee quickly. There are a few seats, but not a lot of space to stretch out with the Sunday paper or with a laptop to work all day. Hungry Ghost is your basic run of the mill coffee shop. They offer pastries, coffee, tea and cider. The place is small, but it was populated and whenever I pass it, I also tend to witness this. I called before coming to HG to ask if they had any vegan options, I was told that all of their muffins were. When I arrived I found that there were 4 muffin varieties to choose from blueberry, strawberry, zucchini and banana. The muffin was $3.75 and was more so on the small side; The good thing is that it tasted good. Not sure why all the negative reviews of this place in regards to service. Every person I've met behind the counter has been really friendly! All the drinks I've gotten have been just fine -I typically get one of three drinks, regular drip coffee, flat white, or cold brew. Just like all the other Hungry Ghost locations, they brew Stumptown beans. The space is definitely smaller than their other location at Bergen just a few blocks up, so this spot is more of a grab and go place for me - although on nice days I do find myself getting work done at the window or reading on the bench outside. As others have mentioned, no wifi at this location. They also have Dough doughnuts (although they sell out pretty early). Their loyalty stamp card can be used across all the Hungry Ghosts. This place epitomizes the reasons I don't live in prospect heights any longer. After giving my order and waiting patiently to pay, I started to address the cashier who stopped me in order to begin ringing up a customer who had come in after me simply because he was still in the process of placing his order despite not actually being in line. Of course the customer didn't say anything knowing full well I was ahead of him so I had to speak up just to pay for my lukewarm latte. After receiving my order, I notice that my cup had the name "Shan" written on it. I suppose with my squinty asian eyes, my actual name of Janet (two syllables beginning with a hard J sound) seems less likely for someone like me. It was raining yesterday's so a friend and I stopped in to get a hot bev and snack and a bit of a chat. They were only accepting cash at that time which was fine. Cute and cozy place, teeny tiny tables just big enough for 2 drinks and 2 saucers. My friend loved her tea and I enjoyed my hot coffee. She gobbled down her slice of banana bread & I enjoyed my almond croissant. It's a pretty small seating area but folks were pretty chill. Location is near prospect park so it's a good place to grab a nice treat & head there. My only complaint is that there are no price listings for anything in the store and on the website. It would make it easier on the staff too when they had computer issues at the point of sale. She didn't know what to charge . (It was incredibly stormy and we were escaping the wind and chill we would have paid whatever . ) friendly and helpful barista girl was working the front documenting sales ~the other employee was on the phone towards the back. People are groggy and not always clear about their orders - or patient, even. But is the attitude really necessary? Hardly. If you're really in the mood for espresso in the area, try the folks at Gorilla Coffee; or, if you're just dying for some Stumptown, the other Hungry Ghost location a few blocks away is, though more crowded, a better bet. But if you're realllly set on this intersection, then the coffee and espresso are okay. Sadly, all "Hungry Ghost"s are not created equal. Same great coffee, same really great and friendly staff at this locale. HOWEVER, if you're looking to do anything but have a coffee and/or a quick bite, go outside and take the B41 a few blocks west, because the Sterling Place address: 1) has NO wifi, 2) NO electrical outlets, 3) NO bathroom, and 4) NO ovens to make their hot sandwiches. And yet nothing in their signage demonstrates that they are anything but the same as their other two venues. Hey, HG: You should let your customers know not to break out their laptops. Hungry Ghost IV took over where Prospect Perk used to be - lots of the same great employees, just a different menu. I enjoy having Stumptown lattes that much closer to work !
