Ordered: Medium Iced Matcha (~$6): with oat milk Aya's take: Nothing like a midday matcha pick-me-up! We stopped at Hungry Ghost for a quick caffeine break and to just chat. They don't have much sitting inside but luckily, it wasn't busy when we went so we were able to grab a table in the corner. The Iced Matcha is smooth, silky, and earthy. It was still good as is, but I should've added a syrup to enhance the sweetness a bit. Decent try! read more

Hungry Ghost - Medium Iced Matcha (~$6) - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Definitely not my go to spot in the area. For +$9 for a matcha latte, I would expect good quality matcha, MADE CORRECTLY, so it doesn't taste like bathwater. Much better spots in the neighborhood sadly. Inside is cute though, with a few tables to sit at/work from. read more

Hungry Ghost - Matcha latte - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Dear Hungry Ghost, please fix your prices. Since when does a ham and cheese croissant that is not made in house cost $8? Your pastries are not fresh and at times from the previous day/s and you still charge for them as if they are fresh. This feels like a greedy cafe chain trying to make a profit by selling mediocre quality food. If you were baking fresh pastries every day and selling day old pastries at a discounted price I would understand but instead you're failing your customers. This review is not just for this specific location but for ALL OF YOUR LOCATIONS. Your prices have gone up and quality has gone down. And on another note more of your locations should have read more

So disappointed! Guys, this isn't coffee, it's watery milk. Anything but a latte! And the price is still like a real coffee. Come on, either change something or change the business! read more

Hungry Ghost - Latte - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Stopped by to check this spot out because the Jonas Brothers tagged this spot as place to check out for coffee. The vanilla espresso bar was super yummy! The customer service was super fast and friendly. Drinks priced fairly and nice coffee shop ambiance. read more

My iced mocha tasted like refried beans. Also it was ready 30 seconds after I ordered which sounds great in theory but a good coffee should take longer to pull than that. The iced black tea was good though. read more

I found this place when looking for somewhere to work a few weeks back and decided to try it out and really enjoyed the experience! Staff was incredibly friendly and the cold brew was very nutty, which is how I like it. The raspberry croissant was solid and I sat here for a few hours working (until a horsefly flew inside from the nearby park and I left because I didn't want to get bitten ). I grabbed a cappuccino on my way out and it was also solid; will definitely be back. read more

Hungry Ghost - Raspberry croissant + cold brew - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

High remarks for the raspberry croissant, but was less enthused about the chai, average service, and lack of enforcement on spacing. Granted, Hungry Ghost is busy and always busy - anytime you walk by there's a crowd - but the business definitely shows in the staff. Nothing necessarily wrong with being quiet and busy, I'm but the bland service just doesn't win any additional points from me, where my 4 and 5 star ratings often entail above average service). Additionally, the enforcement of spacing was decent when I first arrived, but more and more people kept coming in to where we definitely weren't all 6 feet apart (even though we did have masks). A "hey, we're above capacity, please wait outside" would have been good to see. With that said - loved the raspberry croissant. Would totally get it again, and recommend it. The chai on the other hand was average. I feel the best chai lattes have a great blend of sweet and spice, and chais on the lower end are either too sweet or all chai spice. This one was all spice but lacked in the full bodied flavor. I'd come back for the pastries (and try to pay attention to how busy it is), but not the drink. read more

If you want a great cup of coffee and yummy treats head to this Hungry Ghost location! I this was my first time here as I'm new to neighborhood but won't be my last! The staff was friendly and super helpful and answered my questions. Cortado.....macchiato or latte . I had a latte w/oat milk and a Breakast taco and a moist not too sweet Began blueberry muffin. It was all 10/10 and I have my punch card and plan on trying everything they have. Definitely better than Starbucks!! Disclaimer: I had just finished my walk so I scarfed down my food before I remembered to take a pic read more

Adorable coffee shop! This location is a very short walk from the Grand Army Plaza subway stop; it was perfect for grabbing a cup before walking through Prospect Park! Today, a friend and I decided to spend our holiday morning drinking iced matchas and walking Prospect Park top to bottom. The matchas were delicious! The barista measured the amount of matcha using a scale, which is far more trouble than many coffee shops will go to when brewing tea. Hungry Ghost is very small (at least this location is), so don't expect to go sit down or work "from home" at the cafe, but definitely get yourself a cup and enjoy it at the Grand Army Plaza fountain! You can tell this capffeeshop cares about their product. Would recommend! read more

Hungry Ghost - small iced matcha, sub. oat milk - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

A bit smaller than the other HG location closer to the Barclays Center. But they have everything you need, including whole beans. You get a free coffee with purchase! Super nice staff. read more

Hungry Ghost has been on my coffee hit list for a while, and I finally made it to their Park Slope location. It's a cute little shop with all the typical options for coffee. I was pretty boring and stuck with a small iced almond milk latte with an extra shot (basically like a large but with less milk) and it was a whopping $7.80. This is Brooklyn people! But something inside me loves paying outrageous prices for coffee. I'll stop in again when I'm in the hood for sure, but I'll probably settle for a large almond milk latte for $5.50. read more

Went for coffee here and the ladies working behind the counter weren't very friendly. I ordered drip and my fiancée ordered a latte. As we were completed our order we noticed the barista was pinching espresso off of the porta filter with her fingers. Then one of the ladies handed a bottle of oat milk to a customer and took it back. With Covid running rampant over NYC, we'd expect a bit more conscientious practices to avoid spreading germs. My fiancée dumped the latte and i drank my drip which wasn't too bad. read more

First time back in New York in a while and Hungry Ghost had the latte I had been craving! Went 3 days in a row and was perfect every time (although the last time the barista could see I wasn't as satisfied and took it back and remade it, then ran after me outside to make sure I wasn't upset about it), I wasn't, the quality was perfect. Also the banana muffin was delicious! read more

Super sad that this location of Hungry Ghost makes the worst version of matcha lattes that I've ever had (yes, Dunkin is way better!). I've had matcha lattes at the Cobble Hill location-- and it became my favorite, prompting me to buy myself a HG gift card during covid. But the last two lattes I ordered here were so weak (light green milk, anyone?), I actually threw them out. Pretty unacceptable for $5 tea. Service is nice enough. The cappuccino is ok. read more

I'm confused as to why they having a low rating: Im a fan of Hungry Ghost but this location is horrible compared to others in the neighborhood. - Coffee is ALWAYS watered down - I would need to add an espresso to have the equivalent of a regular cup of coffee - Coffee station is always dirty. (Customers either need to clean up if they spill milk or Staff needs to be more attentive) Positives: - Friendly Staff Overall I'd recommend Hungry Ghost but not this location sorry. I'm just confused as to how the standard of coffee is drastically altered by coming to a different location, shouldn't it be the same read more

Iced latte here and hot cappuccinos were so pleasant! Even though there was a line out the door on a Saturday morning, it still went quickly and we were able to get our drinks and be on our way. Hungry Ghost - Latte Hot coffee - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Just off Prospect Park on Flatbush lies this outpost of The Hungry Ghost coffee shop. It is a cozy little shop, that has some pastries and stuff, but the focus here is the coffee. I had an espresso. It was just the right temperature (warm/hot, not scalding/lava hot) and smooth without a bitter finish. The staff was friendly served up the coffee quickly. There are a few seats, but not a lot of space to stretch out with the Sunday paper or with a laptop to work all day. Definitely one of the best espressos in the area, so if you are in the mood for a coffee before or after your trip to the park, here is the spot for you. read more

Decent coffee, a little on the pricier side but it's not too bad. Decent cookies and they have my favourite Martinellis apple juice. Decent service and clean place. At the corner so not too hard to find but with the sign being black and all you could miss it if you don't pay attention. Nice atmosphere but no restroom and a very small place. A couple tables and seats only but it's fine. I would come back if I'm around the area but not a place I'd travel all the way for. read more

Oh HairBender Their coffee sends chills up my spine. I visit Hungry ghost whenever I am in Brooklyn and mainly because they offer oat milk, which is very hard to find in most establishments. I have not tried the pastries but the only vegan items I saw were Power Balls made from nuts and seeds. Not my go to but it could benefit you. Check it out! read more

Hungry Ghost is your basic run of the mill coffee shop. They offer pastries, coffee, tea and cider. The place is small, but it was populated and whenever I pass it, I also tend to witness this. I called before coming to HG to ask if they had any vegan options, I was told that all of their muffins were. When I arrived I found that there were 4 muffin varieties to choose from blueberry, strawberry, zucchini and banana. The muffin was $3.75 and was more so on the small side; The good thing is that it tasted good. Now that I have tried HG I feel as though they don't offer anything unique from any other shop in the city. read more

Coffee is decent but nothing to write home about. Vibe is definitely subpar. Prices are comparable with some of the best places in BK. For some reason I'd always wanted to try this spot but can't imagine I'll go back. read more

Not sure why all the negative reviews of this place in regards to service. Every person I've met behind the counter has been really friendly! All the drinks I've gotten have been just fine -I typically get one of three drinks, regular drip coffee, flat white, or cold brew. Just like all the other Hungry Ghost locations, they brew Stumptown beans. The space is definitely smaller than their other location at Bergen just a few blocks up, so this spot is more of a grab and go place for me - although on nice days I do find myself getting work done at the window or reading on the bench outside. As others have mentioned, no wifi at this location. They also have Dough doughnuts (although they sell out pretty early). Their loyalty stamp card can be used across all the Hungry Ghosts. CC is accepted via Square. read more

This place epitomizes the reasons I don't live in prospect heights any longer. After giving my order and waiting patiently to pay, I started to address the cashier who stopped me in order to begin ringing up a customer who had come in after me simply because he was still in the process of placing his order despite not actually being in line. Of course the customer didn't say anything knowing full well I was ahead of him so I had to speak up just to pay for my lukewarm latte. After receiving my order, I notice that my cup had the name "Shan" written on it. I suppose with my squinty asian eyes, my actual name of Janet (two syllables beginning with a hard J sound) seems less likely for someone like me. Especially since "Shan" is apparently such a common name. Or maybe that's what I get for expecting to order a cup of coffee without incident. P.S. This was my first, last, and only visit. read more

Hungry Ghost - I didn't know I was Chinese?! Tell me more, Hungry Ghost! - Cafes Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Small ice latte and the smallest of small Croissant for over $10. Will avoid. The coffee was good but the place is actually more expensive then that big chain. read more

If you want tables so small you can't put your laptop and drink on the table, this place is for you. There are a limited number of seats, no WiFi, and is impossible to work in. The man at the counter suggested when I ask about the WiFi, to go elsewhere after I bought my drink. read more

For a get-in and get-out coffee spot this location is great. No, you're not going to park here with a laptop or have girl talk hour. This is a no-frills, local spot that makes damn good everything (though at a price). If I were looking for a place to work, I'd hit the Starbucks on Flatbush. Same if I were trying to have a meeting. But for grabbing a coffee or a date spot, Hungry Ghost is great. Take your coffee and hit the park. Service is good/fine for what is essentially a to-go storefront. read more

The coffee was good. However it was super tiny and the place was too overloaded I got a matcha tea latte and others got a regular latte. It was ok but not mind blowing. read more

It was raining yesterday's so a friend and I stopped in to get a hot bev and snack and a bit of a chat. They were only accepting cash at that time which was fine. Cute and cozy place, teeny tiny tables just big enough for 2 drinks and 2 saucers. My friend loved her tea and I enjoyed my hot coffee. She gobbled down her slice of banana bread & I enjoyed my almond croissant. It's a pretty small seating area but folks were pretty chill. Location is near prospect park so it's a good place to grab a nice treat & head there. My only complaint is that there are no price listings for anything in the store and on the website. It would make it easier on the staff too when they had computer issues at the point of sale. She didn't know what to charge . (It was incredibly stormy and we were escaping the wind and chill we would have paid whatever . ) friendly and helpful barista girl was working the front documenting sales ~the other employee was on the phone towards the back. She seemed to look back beckoning assistance but to no avail. It was full of customers. I would come back. Music was low enough so you can think and chat. read more

Don't come for the espresso. The baristas aren't great. Over-extracted and/or burnt, grinds in the bottom of the cup.. it'll do in a pinch, but it's not great. read more

Is homeboy with the long hair and beard still rolling his eyes? I've been to some of the best coffee houses around the country and I have yet to meet this surly a barista. It's a shame, too; the other employees are friendly (and the staff at the other Hungry Ghost location near Bergen are great). Still, I've been here on three occasions now and have heard him going through his I'm-holier-than-thou routine with people during the morning rush. I get it. It's early. People are groggy and not always clear about their orders - or patient, even. But is the attitude really necessary? Hardly. If you're really in the mood for espresso in the area, try the folks at Gorilla Coffee; or, if you're just dying for some Stumptown, the other Hungry Ghost location a few blocks away is, though more crowded, a better bet. But if you're realllly set on this intersection, then the coffee and espresso are okay. And for those looking to camp here, it's more of a pick-up-and-go type espresso bar, so seating is limited. read more

2.75 for a coffee is too expensive to get a joe here every day, but when you do, you will get the absolute smoothest brew.

This place is too small, the coffee is too strong, and it's over priced. I prefer to just stop by union market across the street.

As the star system calls it, "Meh. I've experienced better". Ironically, I've experienced it right up the street at the second of three of this expanding mini-chain. Sadly, all "Hungry Ghost"s are not created equal. Same great coffee, same really great and friendly staff at this locale. HOWEVER, if you're looking to do anything but have a coffee and/or a quick bite, go outside and take the B41 a few blocks west, because the Sterling Place address: 1) has NO wifi, 2) NO electrical outlets, 3) NO bathroom, and 4) NO ovens to make their hot sandwiches. And yet nothing in their signage demonstrates that they are anything but the same as their other two venues. Hey, HG: You should let your customers know not to break out their laptops. Unless it is to write a review on Yelp to inform your customers of the pared-down service you offer here. read more

Hungry Ghost IV took over where Prospect Perk used to be - lots of the same great employees, just a different menu. I enjoy having Stumptown lattes that much closer to work !
