Sautéed Shredded Beef with Wild Pepper Bò xào tiêu rừng
Robert L.

Oh wow! You know when you crave something and the place just nails it? Well today was such a day! This was my first time ordering from Hunan (based on a Doordash "customer favourite" rating) and they delivered EXACTLY what i had in mind with their "sauteed shredded beef with wild pepper". First, i was impressed with the spice level (and i didnt even ask for extra spicy). Secondly, the quality of the meat was great! I was afraid it might be that fat, chewy stuff you often get but nope, it was clean and tender. The portion was also big enough to have leftovers. I will definitely have that again!

Pork belly with bamboo

Authentic Chinese restaurant surrounded by fast food. I had the smoked pork belly with bamboo. The port was very smokey and pretty lean for pork belly. I ordered medium spice and it was quite spicy, so be careful what you ask for. Nice size portion. Felt very authentic, not your typical fast Chinese.

I visited Hunan restaurant on Saturday morning opening time. Staff were so friendly and the service was really quick. Inside of the restaurant was super clean and well decorated. The food was reasonably priced and the portion was good too! Taste was very satisfying. My friend said thank you for bringing me here like three times haha. I'll probably will be back for their braised beef and tendon noodles!

I had a completely magical experience here. The food was AMAZING. Hunan Restaurant has the perfect authentic Chinese food, so flavorful and just ravishing. The flavors of the food are absolutely delicious, unforgettable even. The experience and atmosphere of the place is exceptional as well. This is probably the best Chinese restaurant in all of Toronto. Absolutely recommend.

Did not love it. The cucumber was good. Tofu good. Book Choy good. Cumin beef was not good. Service was fine. Nothing outstanding.

I love that they have a sauce station, a sauce station is a must for hotpot in my opinion. You order your food using the QR code on the table. They have an awesome summer light hotpot deal for $9.99 so I got that along with spicy chicken gizzard. I chose the tomato broth with thick noodles, chicken shawarma meat and watercress. Broth was so rich and flavourful I didn't really need sauce but still nice to have. This bowl was so filling and I also really enjoyed how they made the chicken gizzard, it was spicy and so flavourful and I love the fresh herbs in it which gave it a refreshing flavour. Make sure to let them know if you have a peanut allergy since it was topped with crushed peanuts. Some freebie hacks to save you some money! Say these lines to the server to redeem them. "Yummy yummy magic ice cream" = free mini ice cream cup "Potato king kills potato slices" = 1 crazy potato skewer To finish off you have to get the viral ice cream parfait, it was such a great way to end the meal and cool you down. Their soft serve was oolong flavour with tea jellies, rice puffs and mochi skewers. I don't know how the mochi skewers didn't get hard from being in the cold ice cream so that was a nice surprise. It was chewy and fun to eat. I love that it was the perfect sweetness since I'm not a huge sweets person. This location is not stroller friendly as there's a set of stairs to go up. I definitely will be back to get their summer light hotpot dish

We tried both the roasted chili & fermented black bean and Sichuan spicy soup bases, and I liked that they actually had different flavour profiles rather than just tasting like different levels of spice. We also ordered the pork wontons and spicy crispy tofu. The crispy tofu was one of my favourites because it added a nice crunch in between bites of hot pot. For dessert, we tried the banana mystery parfait and camellia oolong parfait. I especially liked the oolong parfait since it's not a flavour you see on dessert menus very often. I also really liked the individual hot pot format. Sometimes I want hot pot without committing to a full AYCE meal, so this was a nice option, especially for the price. Service: The staff were really helpful, especially because we weren't sure what to order at first. They took the time to explain the $9.99 deal and helped us figure out how everything worked. Our food also came out pretty quickly, which was nice. Ambiance: It's a fairly small spot and it was already busy when we went, even though it was a weekday. I'd probably recommend going a little earlier if you want to avoid waiting or have an easier time getting a table. Overall, we had a good experience and I'd come back, especially when I'm craving hot pot but don't feel like doing a full AYCE meal.

All of their meats were fresh, well tempered (not stale/straight out of the freezer). Condiment bar was self serve and had a wide selection to customize your sauce. Their veggies were also very fresh & the appetizers such as wings & the squid ink dumpling were AMAZING. Soft drinks are also included in the Premium AYCE price at $45/pp after tax. All of their waitstaff we interacted with were kind, patient, attentive, and helpful. Their seating layout is also notable-- each individual table was enclosed, it gave a more cozy/private feel rather than loud & overstimulating despite dining during peak hour. If I could critique even just one thing, it'd be the dessert options, almond pudding and ice jelly were a bit disappointing to end the meal with cuz they weren't great in our opinion, but not problematic enough for me to dock a star. Next time I'm craving hotpot, Daimaru will absolutely be at the top of my choice list moving forward!

They had a large seating area. Only 2 tables plus us. The food came fairly quickly. They have a sauce bar and with some fruits there. I found the menu to be pretty small. A lot of it were like filler food. Like spam, different types of balls. It was mostly just beef or seafood. The beef didn't taste as tender as other places we been to before. It actually tastes quite dry. Our server also never really came around. We had to wait till someone comes around. Another weird thing that they do is add a mandatory 12% tips onto your bill. They do tell you before hand, but it felt obligated when it's forced onto the bill. Super weird

It's rare to see a Korean restaurant so encouraging of refilling side dishes. I got the seafood pancake which was the crispiest I have ever had. It was also really tasty but I later suspect they use MSG for seasoning which makes it so good. It was really big though and we had leftovers to bring home. The soup and rice was also nice but not a lot of meat. The food took some time to come out but it was busy times while we were there. The price is also a standout, it's so affordable compared to other places. I highly recommend this place and will go back!

There also really isn't anything which differentiates it from any of the others based on ingredients but it is different in that they cook it for you and your cost is determined based on weight. Personally, I didn't love the communal food baskets as even though everything gets cooked, using a single set of tong on raw ingredients is unsettling and seems a bit unsanitary. Also, as other diners noted, having this right in the entry way seemed an additional layer of uncertainty with food quality as people were coughing while waiting for a table and the food being right by the open door also was a bit off putting. The sauce station was also poorly stocked and similarly seemed dirty. That being said, no one got sick in our dining party but these kind of things make for a less good dining experience. Their chocolate soft serve at the end was pretty good though the black cones seemed a bit gimicky. The shining point I felt was the service. The servers were very kind and attentive. That is definitely a point to improve the experience. Probably wouldn't go again given the multitude of other options in the city but it's not bad either.

It's pay by weight so the more you get the more it costs. Different soup base was nice I got the bone broth. There was a few people ahead of us at lunch and it can get a bit crowded in that area. Some of the fish and chicken looked a bit questionable. Anyways you pay at the counter and lunch it comes with a drink and small ice cream at the end. You get a # and the food will be brought to you when it's ready. There is a sauce bar where you can combine sauces toppings. Soup was nice not too salty or strong. I ordered with a couple others however my hot pot came last to the point where the others were more or less done eating even though we paid the same time and I could not enjoy because it was lunch and only so much time to eat. Definitely at least 25 minutes wait while I watch everyone else get their hot pot as we all laid around the same time. Because towards after initial entering there was not another large group of people having lunch. So factor in how busy the line is and how long you will wait to receive your food. I think it is nice you can choose what you want and the amount you want to eat. However it could be slow wait to get your meal.
