First time I've ever had Hawaiian shaved ice. They were so friendly and helped me create the perfect combination! I can't wait to try a different one every day of my vacation!

Thanks Mama D! It was so nice meeting you. This was my first time trying shave ice (criminal, I know!), and it was delicious. Smooth and refreshing with natural flavors. I chose pineapple and guava with the coconut flavored condensed milk drizzle and it tasted every bit tropical. It was the perfect flavor without having a syrupy taste. Looking forward to trying more flavors.

Adorable gelato/ice shop right on the beach. They have a whole cooler of gelato as well as pineapple soft serve aka dole whip!!!! They also have Hawaiian shaved ice bowls that are HUGE!!! I'm obsessed with pineapple dole whip and having it in a waffle cone was *chefs kiss*. The women working the shop were nice and patient and quick. It is expensive but it's also Maui so everything's expensive. But on a warm day definitely worth it!

We stumbled upon Hula Scoops while on our way to another hotel. It's a little gem located at Marriott's Maui Ocean Club. It was closed when we first passed by, but opened up later that day. It's a small spot, but has a good amount of options--the case was lined with about a dozen flavors of creamy gelato and refreshing sorbetto, plus the classic Dole Whip, and shave ice. The gelato was a little pricey and the Dole Whip seemed to be the better deal. My son opted for the raspberry sorbetto (a bright, tart choice that felt perfect for the day), while my mom happily enjoyed a small cup of pineapple Dole Whip. My husband and I couldn't resist the Dole Whip swirl--a large cup mixing vanilla and Dole Whip soft serve. We probably could have shared the small cup of Dole Whip as the large was just a bit too large for us and we couldn't finish it all. Haha. Hula Scoops was exactly the reprieve we needed from the Maui sun after walking down the beachwalk. Cool, sweet, with just the right amount of tartness and conveniently located just steps from the pool. With tables and shaded seating right outside and the ocean views and the sound of waves in the background, Hula Scoops the perfect spot to wind down and enjoy a sweet pause from the day. After our snack break, we jumped right back into vacation mode at the pool. Check it out if you're nearby!

Good shave ice with homemade syrups that taste natural. They also have dole whip as well as gelato. The ice texture isn't as fluffy and well packed as Ululani's but it is an ok-ish substitute. The ice melts faster than ululanis due to this. There is outdoor seating with shade and bathrooms adjacent. The view from the seating is pretty fantastic as it is right on the beach. This location accepts card or tap pay only (no cash). This little stand is located on the beach in kanapali inside a hotel. Parking is pretty terrible as you need to park at a public lot by the Hyatt next door, then walk through the marriot, through the pool area, to finally reach it. If you are staying in kanapali in the hotels/condos, then it may be a convenient walk for you down the sidewalk by the beach.

Great spot for shaved ice, gelato, and Dole Whip! Perfect location right in front of the beach with amazing views and plenty of seating. The Kokolada was delicious just the right amount of sweetness, with a scoop of coconut gelato and Dole Whip. The only downside was the wait; service can be a little slow when it's busy. But overall, it was a great experience and I'll be back!

Cute place with creamy delicious gelato, dole whip and shaved ice!!! The young ladies here were STELLAR! So so kind and made my first visit here incredible. I'm a fan...ok I'm obsessed with Disney Dole Whip...and their Dole Whip was 100% on the money!! The cookie dough ice cream my partner got was so creamy and flavorful! The shaved ice was so fresh and not artifical tasting! I swear it had real pureed watermelon in it! All around fabulous experience!

We walked here from our hotel and it's a cute little shack off the boardwalk. The employees were very friendly and helpful. I ordered a shaved ice with 2 flavors- hibiscus and guava. I also got the passion fruit (lilikoi) gelato to go on it. The presentation and syrup flavors are amazing. The gelato was delicious as well. The only downside is the ice wasn't as soft as other places we tried. It got hard and compact. My sister in law tried their pineapple whip with lime shaved ice. It was good and the lime was like eating a margarita. I really like the unique flavors but wish the ice was better/softer.

We had a fabulous one week stay at the Marriott Ocean Club on Ka'anapali Beach in Maui. HulaScoops is located at the resort by the beachwalk right next to Starbucks. They serve Gelato, Shave Ice, and Dole Whip. Plenty of tables by the beachwalk to sit and enjoy your treats from HulaScoops. Let me start by saying the Customer Service was NOT friendly at all. Service with a smile goes a long way folks. For goodness sake, you are working in Paradise. The young lady who was working that afternoon must of been having a bad day. Don't take it out on your customers, though. Anyways. we did not let that deter us from purchasing something from them. The Dole Whip tasted fine. Like everywhere else we've tried it. So nothing special about it. Just on the pricier side. Also tried a scoop of Gelato. Specifically, we tried the Kona Mud Pie. It looked yummy & fresh, and the container was still completely full. The scoop was more the size of a mini scoop for most shops. Disappointing due to how pricey the scoops are. She made sure not to overfill the cup. Some gelato was rising above the lip of the cup. So she removed the excess gelato as to not give us too much. Good for the business. Surprisingly, the Kona Mud Pie did not taste very good. Or maybe it was the bad taste the customer service left us with? A very disappointing 2 star experience that we had on this island paradise. Won't let this stop us from visiting Maui in the future. Will just skip HulaScoops.

This shaved ice is delicious!!! We tried some of the gelato but landed on the shaved ice, mango and peach flavored! I want to go back and have another next time with coconut gelato at the bottom. A great spot, so convenient right on the beach! And a lot of ice for $10! Would highly recommend if you're on the beach, stopping there and getting something to share!

Be sure to let them know if you have any fruit allergies when you order. I'm deathly allergic to mangoes and the girls behind the counter were so accommodating and sweet and gave me strawberries instead. Flavorful natural syrups. We loved our shaved ice orders.

Hula scoops was a quick and convenient walk from my hotel. There's plenty of seating to enjoy this treat ona hot afternoon. I got the lilikoi and guava flavors. It tasted natural but I really couldn't taste the guava.

Ono Gelato is the real deal, and you can taste it in every bite. Their gelato is made daily from scratch by a third-generation gelato maker from Torino, Italy, using whole milk, heavy cream, and egg yolks, with select ingredients imported directly from Italy. The authenticity truly shows. I tried the Coffee Crunch and Cookies & Cream, and both were outstanding. The Coffee Crunch was rich and smooth with bold coffee flavor, packed with macadamia nuts and chocolate chunks that added the perfect balance of creamy and crunchy. I'm completely obsessed. The Cookies & Cream was ultra-creamy and generously loaded with cookie pieces, not icy or overly sweet. They also offer a wide variety of flavors, from island favorites like coconut, mango, and macadamia nut to classics such as chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, hazelnut, and Sicilian pistachio. There is truly something for everyone. Creamy, authentic, and absolutely delicious, this is one of the best gelato spots on Maui. We will be back every single visit. Don't make the mistake we ALMOST made!…read more We arrived at the little shop, got our little free sample, looked through the window at the chocolate making machine, and were about to make our purchases and depart. Then something caught our eye about tastings upstairs. So up we went. Fabulous breezy little open air bar with plenty of seating and a view! A full menu of drinks and nibbles, and a gazillion ways to pair chocolate and alcohol. Our server Carrie was fun and friendly and knowledgable, and took great care of us. Mr. M and I each had a glass of red with our chocolate pairings, and our companions tried the port and liquor pairings. So much fun and so delicious. What a lovely way to spend some time.

Well, it would've been fine had our entire table received their order. The brownie was not good. The build your own brownie "experience" was lacking. Only brownie and ice cream was included. At least give a topping included, then up-charge for more. On top of that, the $1.50 for sprinkles was a disgrace when the kid didn't get even $.10 worth. There was a tad confusion around the alcohol as well. Understand there's permit restrictions but it would've been nice to know when placing the order instead of when the drink was delivered. Signage isn't clear either. The "only 21 and over past this point" should have a blurb about no alcohol in the main seating. Oh well, we worked with it. Oh, and the sweat that dripped into the ladies plate who was doing the tasting experience was gross - even she said something and got attitude back from the upstairs hosts. Again, three stars awarded as we didn't really partake in anything outside of the cafe top level. Giving the benefit of the doubt the rest of the experience would've probably been good.

You don't have to be a guest of the resort to visit. It's open to the public. Simply enter the Marriott resort from the paved trail along Ka'anapali Beach. Look for the signs. An easy way to spot this place from the trail is to look for the beachside Starbucks. Beach Walk Kau Kau To Go is right next door. This was one of our favorite spots to hit up while at the pool, along with the Lokelani Pool Bar nearby: https://www.yelp.com/biz/lokelani-pool-bar-lahaina. We all loved the soft serve here. I mean what's better than going to the pool in Maui with a delicious soft serve in-hand? It doesn't get much better than that. My favorite was the Rainbow Soft Serve with the blue Hawaii coconut, mango, and strawberry flavors swirled. Incredibly delicious. I also happen to love soft serve in general. The soft serve here was a real treat, also for my wife, sister, and nieces, both the pool and the beach. While the soft serve here is popular, there's much more on the menu. They offer a bunch of standard "American chain food" like nachos, wings, chicken tenders, onion rings, burgers, tacos, quesadillas, fish and chips, chicken Caesar wraps, flatbread pizza, salads, sandwiches, and hot dogs. I will say the food isn't cheap. Examples of some of the prices during our stay included five chicken tenders for $19, a burger for $20, two fish tacos for $23, and a foot-long hot dog for $17. All food is served in takeout containers. This is a food stand/counter, not a sit-down restaurant. You can get coffee here too, even though there's a Starbucks next door. A 12-oz cup was $2.75 and a 16-oz cup was $3.00. Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist, fruit punch, and Mug Root Beer 16-oz fountain sodas were $3.00 each and 20-oz sizes were $3.50 each. Service was great. The staff was polite, friendly, and efficient. Each soft serve serving cost $6 before tip and we had them conveniently charged to our room. If you're not staying at the Marriott, bring a card because they do not take cash.

But we didn't. And it was due to logistical decisions made by staff. Let me explain... We had a 7:15pm reservation but arrived to a large crowd waiting out front and no one at the hostess stand. We were able to check in closer to 7:30. I felt assured when Qiana politely told an impatient patron that she had to seat those with reservations first. But that party of four, and others, were seated before us. After 40+ minutes waiting, Qiana apologized for a table that was lingering and asked if we wanted to wait for a table upstairs or be seated on the crowded lanai (with several young children) or wait a bit for a table upstairs. I chose upstairs. We waited for that lingering party to depart; no one left. Then 15-20 minutes later, we were seated upstairs. That was one hour after our reservation at 8:15pm. The logistical decisions and bad luck continued because there was a large party of ~10 also seated upstairs and they took priority over us. Our entrees arrived 45 minutes later (9pm by now). By this time, my family was very hungry and a little mad at the situation. I felt disrespected for the circumstances. The staff was nice, but actions were speaking louder than words. I usually rave about food in my reviews, but the long wait and how situations were handled (there were more I'm not describing) colored our special evening out and how the bites were received. Our evening at Sale Pepe turned out to be a low light, instead of the highlight I expected, from our Maui holiday.
