Peace Love Shave Ice in Kihei was a decent stop, but overall just okay for me. We went after a long day of hiking and beach time on Christmas Day, and we were honestly just excited to find any place open. We rushed over and waited about 20 minutes in line, which felt reasonable given the holiday. We ordered three flavors--mango, passion fruit, and Tiger's Blood--and added macadamia nut ice cream for an extra $3. Overall, the shave ice was fine, but nothing memorable. The ice itself wasn't as fluffy as Ululani's, which really affects the texture. The syrup flavors were also underwhelming. The mango flavor was a bit strange and didn't really taste like mango at all. The passion fruit and Tiger's Blood were better, but still not very bold or punchy. The macadamia nut ice cream was another letdown. It was taken straight out of the deep freezer and was rock hard at the bottom. To be fair, the employee did warn us, but for a $3 add-on, I expected a better experience. The ice cream flavor itself was just okay, and there weren't many macadamia nuts mixed in. Compared to other shave ice spots, this one falls short. The ice isn't as fluffy, the syrup flavors aren't as strong, and the value for what you get feels low. For reference, I'd give Ululani's a solid 4/5, and Waiola Shave Ice on Oahu is a 5/5 for me. Peace Love Shave Ice lands at a 3/5--fine if you're nearby or need a quick treat, but not a must-visit. read more

Of the four in my party, two had been to Hawaii multiple times and never experienced shave ice. The other two of us thought that sacrilegious and vowed to show them the error of their ways. This explains how we wound up at Peace Love Shave Ice and how two non-believers suddenly became, if not believers, at least in agreement that Peace Love Shave Ice is delicious. One of the two neophytes wanted to order only ice cream and found that she couldn't do that here. The other wanted to sample what was ordered - having mistakenly believed that shave ice was akin to a snow cone - and suddenly found herself ordering one of her own. Meanwhile, us other two patiently devoured the deliciousness of our orders with "can you believe these two?" smirks on our faces. Peace Love Shave Ice is a kiosk in a strip mall parking lot and serves some of the best of the genre. My order included vanilla bean ice cream topped with mango, passion fruit, and strawberry syrups, and a liberal dose of sweetened condensed milk (no extra charge). The owner here is delightful and patient with everyone! When I told him I wanted traditional tropical flavora, he recommended home-made lillikoi and pineapple guava that had bit of fruit from the puree. It was a hot afternoon. We were walking in the Neighbourhood trying to find coconut out of nowhere. We hear somebody calling us when we turn around. It was the owner of that amazing shaved eyes. He said we must try. Never happened that somebody called us and said you have to try something. We definitely did and guess what they make all their situps creamers and House organic we ended up taking coconut tigerblood with a drizzle of coconut syrup, which was homemade it was so good. It really had all the three things that the store name had peace love and shaped eyes ended up having a 1520 minute conversation since there was nobody else in the store and suddenly we started seeing a lot of other people coming and then we love that place with a smile because it was an amazing experience and interaction with that guy the ambience is good. Found a great new shave ice place! It's a little shack in the parking lot of the shopping mall! I'm pretty sure the guy who made mine was the owner. He was super personable and friendly as he made it too- and it wasn't just me it was everyone! Really spreading that aloha spirit! The flavors were a little more limited than ululanis but I thought the guava and pina colada were extra flavorful and adding the coconut ice cream was a definite bonus! The little building and outdoor seating had a lot of character and the theme with the disco ball and colorful benches and artistically designed cups were a nice touch as well! Overall a great experience! And I will be back to try that Thai tea flavor and condensed milk with coconut ice cream! Also side bonus is they're open later than ululanis!! My husband and I do our best to avoid artificial coloring for our daughter, and we specifically sought out this shave ice stand because friends shared that natural coloring was available. My daughter really wanted a rainbow shaved ice but I didn't see any natural blue colors on the list. I felt that it wouldn't hurt to just ask if they had a natural flavoring available in the color blue. Upon asking the man running the stand, I received a sassy response of how its was "impossible" to find a blue color in nature other than the sky... A simple "unfortunately no, we don't have any natural blue flavors today" would have been sufficient, however, I felt this may be a great moment to educate on natural blue alternatives to artificial colorings along with basic customer service. Alternative options for a natural blue coloring (other than the sky) include many but here are a few that are easily sourced via online or in local grocery stores on island: * Blueberries * Blue spirulina (phycocyanin from blue-green algae) * Butterfly pea flower petals * Red cabbage (boiled, then alkalized for blue hue) * Currants * Elderberries After we paid my husband asked for a few more spoons so we could share as a family and his response was "define a few". A great alternative to increase customer retention and make your customers feel welcome would be " absolutely, how many can I grab for you sir?" The flavor of the shave ice was nice yet it was over priced and the size was pretty small. If it weren't for the poor customer service I would have gone back to give it a 2nd chance but fortunately there are many other options on Maui with natural alternatives sans the attitude. read more
