I've eaten at HuHot numerous times over the last 15 years and always enjoyed it. While I had great service this time around, the restaurant is beginning to show its age and the cooks have lost some of their focus. While my food burned away on the grill, the kid playing with the water tried to reconstitute the burned sauces to pass the time. I want to clarify that I don't think this place is bad, I just don't think it's great. That being said, you're almost certainly coming here for quantity and you will get it. For $15/person, you get unlimited bowls, which is amazing. If you're familiar with Mongolian Grill, you'll be at home. You start by choosing a starch (noodles or rice), then proteins, then veggies, then you make a sauce. A tip: Grab 2 bowls, 1 for noodles/rice and protein, and 1 for veggies. Regarding the sauce, they have recipes for different kinds but you can freestyle. They say use at least 6 ladles for enough sauce but I recommend at least 7 or so. After that, they'll cook it hibachi style in front of you. Service was good and the place was decently clean, I just wish the sauces were a little more flavorful and there were more seafood options than just fish. Come here for quantity. read more

A disclaimer to start: this is very similar to a place in Columbus that I used to love very much, so there may be some subconscious comparisons made. That being said. This is a nice little place. A decent price for an all you can eat. As stated earlier, there was a Mongolian place in Colunbus I really loved, but instead of unlimited it was one bowl as much as you can fill it. I feel the quality is a little less here. It wasn't "bad" or anything, but I also felt I could taste the "we need lots of food because it's all you can eat". I liked the sausage the best out of the protein I tried, and I definitely got some zing in whatever mad sauce combination I came up with. The option to add some hibachi at the end was a nice touch as well. I wasn't "wow'd" and it wouldn't be my first choice, but nothing is keeping me from coming back. read more

Me and my family members have been going to Hu Hot for at least the last 12 years in different locations at times. We always love the food and experience is usually very good with the exception of a bad service experience from time to time but that's on an individual server (might be having a not so good day) not the whole experience. I love the rewards program and have earned and received many BOGO deals and free grill meals. As far as the quality of the food, fresh with an excellent selection, great options and something for everyone. The attendants are constantly filling and trying to keep the bins clean and proper but, it's a little hard when people just grab things and let food spill over to other bins. The sauce, oils and juice selection is something I've mastered over time :)... The floor area through the cook line is sticky for sure but, this is caused by people spilling the sauces out of their bowls and then track it through the line. It can get a little busy at times, true... I try and plan my trips between times I know are usually lighter. Honestly I can't say enough about HuHot. I love their food and enjoy that I can make it however I want and can go up as many times as I'd like. They are taking precautions for covid by putting gloves out when going through the line when picking the food you'd like in your bowl. The staff is very friendly and always willing to describe how the restaurant works for people who have never been. read more

Was hungry and wanted something different. This restaurant was in walking distance from Super 8 hotel where I stayed the 4th of July. This is a great concept. Instead of eating what the restaurant prepares, you gather all the ingredients you like as if you are the chef at home and take the bowls to the grill for the cooks to cook the food. It's all you can eat, so go back as often as you like. This is especially great for teens and 1st dates. Me and my girlfriend have been coming here for around a year now and it used to be great, however recently the quality has dropped substantially. The food has been coming out very bland with little to no sauce. I'm pretty sure the cooks have started to turn up the grills to get through the line faster. I have worked in restaurants before so I understand wanting to get through the rush but it is starting to seriously compromise the quality of the meal. The service however is always great. UPDATE: This is just to respond the owner's response which I do appreciate. I would like to provide the date and time when I was there so the owner can check the security cameras because if indeed that waitress / manager did throw that wrapper at my face then she needs to be dealt with strictly or face assault charges. If it was indeed some strange accident, then I will accept that and move on with my life. I'm at the HuHot. It's not my first time. The server puts my soup and potstickers across the table from me. My companion has his food served directly in front of him while I'm left to gather my food from across the table. What is going on in the world. We're paying the same prices for slip shod service based on comfort levels or what. Needless to say I mentioned it. We got a new server. I'm sad that Mongo's closed, and probably due to the opening of this chain. Since Mongo's was no more, we went here instead. At the time we went, they only had beer...a very disappoint bar selection. The food was kind of meh...and that was ok, but even before we left, I was beginning to feel ill. And that ruined the rest of my night. We had hoped that it was a fluke and gave the place another chance...again, I got quite ill after eating there. Love me some HuHot!!! My family are huge fans of this do-it-yourself Mongolian grill. Some tips after eating many times at this restaurant; use two bowls, use alot of sauce and skip the appetizers, you don't need them. That said, we have always had good service and the cost is affordable for a family. The choices on the buffet of meat, noodles, vegetables and fruits change depending on whether you are there for lunch or dinner. We find lunch to be a better value. If you go at lunchtime, go early or go late, as the restaurant tends to get very busy during the normal lunchtime (12 to 1). I agree with an earlier post regarding traffic flow leading up to the actual grill from the area where you fill your bowls with the aforementioned choices, a Mongolian warrior could be used at busy times to control the traffic. read more

I came in at 1:00 on a week day and it was pandemonium. The entry way was packed with people--a complete fire hazard. There was no order to how people were in line and more kept coming in. Nobody was being seated though there were tables available. After 10 minutes in a non-moving line we overheard another guest say she was told 45 minutes so we left. I love hu hot in Green Bay they are kind and clean. This place seriously grossed me out. I am just hoping I don't get food poisoning from this store. Cross contamination happens when meats thaw out and are touching well there was thawed meat all over the meat station, every one of the sauces had things floating in them from other sauces to broccoli or some leafy food it was gross then walking up to the grill I almost tripped because of it being so sticky! My foot stuck to the floor so much that it made me stumble a bit. The bar where you can grab Salt or other items was truly gross as well they could simply wipe it up but they left it look like toddlers played in it. HuHot is one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I've shared a lot of special memories there with some of my dearest friends. HuHot is a mongolian grill where you select the items and sauces for your dish and one of the kind grill-guys throws your mixture onto the large scorching grill. What makes HuHot special in regards to a mongolian grill? Well, they've got probably 60+ different selections that you can add to your dish. It's like a salad bar that keeps on going. You've got 4-5 different types of meats, tofus, noodles, carrots, celery, mushrooms, pineapple... and the list goes on and on. How it works for those not familiar with a mongolian grill: You take a bowl (here's a hint for HuHot - take two bowls, one for the meat, the other for the fixin's). You walk along the selections bar and put your meat in one bowl and noodles, and other fixings in the other (you'll find two bowls is helpful, as you can never get everything you'd like in just one!) Then, before you go to the grill, you select the sauces you'd like to have in your dish. Everything from cooking wine to "Burn-Your-Village Barbeque" sauce. With dinner, you can go up several times, so feel free to explore/mix-and-match sauces. That is, if you have room!! You never quite realize how much food you take until it ends up on a plate once the grill-guys are done with your dish. The hot sauce at the end of the bar helps add spice to the dish. Your meal also comes with tortillas, rice and soup. The soup is ok and the tortillas and rice mix great with the dish. Finally, and you've got to make a point to save room, you must try their cheesecake wontons.* * HuHot cheesecake wontons are nominated for my favorite dessert of any restaurant I've ever eaten at. The wontons are served with a dollop of ice cream and the topping of your choice (caramel, chocolate, strawberry and the list goes on). Every time I go back to Appleton, I make it a point to stop at HuHot. I don't know the caloric intake, and quite honestly, I don't much care. If I have to diet for a week to eat here, I'm there! Hu Hot is similar to do it yourself Chinese food. Unfortunately, determining the recipe for good Chinese food from a mixture of 20 sauces is near impossible. The grill area is covered by dirty food scraps, and is quite in appetizing. It is what I would assume the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant looks like, but fortunately They keep that hidden from their patrons. Seating area is akin to a glamorized Chinese restaurant. Trust the pros if you are looking for Chinese food. Go to China buffet and you'll have a much better selection to choose from. You won't be limited to one dish, and you won't have to eat your recipes gone bad. read more

Love love huhot. Live in Portland now and there is not one here but a slightly more expensive similar chain called Changs. Huhot is so much better and has better sauces. The rewards program is great! I admittedly dont eat much portion-wise so it's not always a good deal for me, but the hubby does a pretty good job making up the difference. I like to just get 2 bowls to go so I can make 2 meals out of it instead of 1 and leftovers are just as good. Anyway, when I'm somewhere there is a huhot now, I definitely go. Only thing is, around the dinner rush lines can get quite long at the grill at this location. Oh, but the crab rangoon is terrible and the cheesecake is good. The place looked and felt filthy. Tables and menus were sticky. The buffet has many options but you'd see different foods get mixed with each other. Like corn in the noodles. I have been to many Mongolian BBQ's and this certainly ranks as a slight cut above from the norm I have experienced elsewhere. First off, it was far cleaner. Having a huge, indoor flat grill often makes these types of places seem to have a layer of stickiness on every item you touch. From the booth you are sitting in to the door handle to the mens room, there is always a film. That was not the case here. I won't speculate too much as to how they accomplished this (better ventilation perhaps ?) but I do know it was apparent. Wait staff are normally an afterthought in a place like this, especially since I did not order an appetizer or cocktails, but when I told her we had never been in before she gave a perfect rendition of the process (My guess is that many people who try this place have never had Mongolian BBQ before). I also had a fresh soda sitting next to my half drank one without so much as a glance in her direction. Yep, she got 20% As for the food itself? Bear in mind that I stopped in here on a date, so I was not paying as much attention to food as I ordinarily would be. Nonetheless, I was still impressed with the freshness of ingredients and quality and diversity of the sauce concoctions available. If you like really spicy food (and I adore it) you have numerous options to make your bowl nuclear hot while still maintaining a good flavor. They have various signs above the sauce bar directing you towards one mixture or another to achieve a desired result that you find in any Mongolian BBQ, but what fun is following a formula? For me, it is all about experimentation. Next time I visit this place, I plan to experiment more with the sauces and oils, mad scientist style. We even had extremely enthusiastic cooks who were doing their best to give Japanese steakhouse chefs a run for their money by using their spatulas like a high school drill team girl would her baton. It was incredibly cheesy, but hey, they were having fun with it so I tossed a couple of ones in the tip jar for them. Overall, this is a very good option for Mongolian BBQ. I eat at Hu-Hot occasionally, but never by my own choice. While the food is ok, there are better places I'd rather spend my time and money. PROS: Typical Mongolian so you get to choose your own ingredients, you also get to tailor the taste of your food by adding your own sauces. This is a good compromise place to go in Appleton if you're vegan dining out with non-vegans. You also get your money's worth since you can re-visit the grill as many times as you'd like. CONS: The set up of this restaurant is HORRIBLE and I hope I'm never in there when a fire breaks out! The entrance/exit is a single corridor which is full more often than not, making it difficult to check in with the hostess and awkward to try to maneuver through all the people if you're leaving the restaurant. Similarly, the bathrooms are in the back of the restaurant at the end of the meat/veggie buffet which means you have to maneuver through all the people fixing their plates to use the restroom. This place is always super busy so you end up standing in line at the buffet and the grill for long enough that it usually deters you from going back for a second trip if you're still hungry. The sauce area always seems to be a mess, and there are always oils and sauces dripped on the floor between the sauce station and the grill, making the floor slippery. Like I said, the food is ok. Since you choose all the ingredients yourself, you don't really have anyone to blame but yourself if you don't like it. It's everything else that goes along with the dining experience that makes this low on my list of restaurants in the area. read more

Khan's Revenge is the best sauce ever! 3 scoops of that, followed with 2 scoops of Kung Pao ....Yow! and you will be breathing out of your nose easily the next few days.The only thing hotter than the sauces is the Female Servers (Hit me up ladies!) Only Thing this place is lacking is Free WiFi! I'm pretty sure that has something to do with Genghis Khan when he founded the Mongol Empire in 1206, he believed his homemade firewalls were vulnerable for attacks, and till this day, he believes no firewalls are up to his protocols with open networks. read more

It's Mongolian BBQ, so, really, if you don't like your food you have no-one but yourself to blame. Me, I love Mongolian BBQ, and I love it every time I have it. I went in a party of 3 on a Saturday night and had a good experience despite the long line (it moves pretty quickly). The guys at the grill were loquacious and friendly, joking and singing with each other and with the clients; it really made a positive out of what could be the most tedious part of the visit (the waiting in line). I didn't love the staff (servers/bussers) in the seating area. Most of them did not seem to give much attention to their appearance, coming across as sloppy at best, if not outright dirty. Ours in particular was hard to find the two or three times we needed her. Of course, the focus of Mongolian BBQ is on the grill and not the dining area, and what I got from the grill I was happy with. read more

We've been making occasional treks up to HuHot for a long time. The format is one of the better-executed "mongo" restaurants. Food freshness is generally very good (an occasional problem at other mongo restaurants). I'd have given it four stars except for two things: 1) We had visited maybe two years ago and I had asked to be seated near an outlet, because I was on-call and had a little problem that I needed to address. The laptop's power-hungry and only good for maybe 45 minutes. I was told that they "didn't do that" and the hostess proceeded to walk us by two different tables that had outlets by them before seating us at one that didn't. So rather than leisurely poking at a broken server while eating, I was instead having to obsess about the possibility my battery would run out, and so I ended up not eating. We didn't return for at least a year after that. Stupid not to accommodate a patron. 2) On our most recent visit, it was pretty much a disaster. The food bar was a mess, and despite having someone up there pretty much continuously filling things, they were running out of staples such as broccoli (empty over 5 minutes), the sauce stand was a mess, and several times the grill was so backed up that a line formed behind the sauce stand, along the refrigerators, and all the way back along the wall separating the food bar from the restaurant. At one point the line was longer than the wall. I was watching what was going on at the grill and it didn't seem to be any deficiency on the part of the workers, at least five of whom were working non-stop in an impressive display of coping with the situation. They appear to suffer from (not-so) little "rushes" where a huge line develops for a bit and then gets manageable. Unfortunately, the design of the facility adds confusion to this, because as that grill line shortens, the people who have just finished at the sauce stand will tend to look around and not really "get" that the dozen people standing behind them are actually a line for the grill, so they just stand where they are waiting for the grill too, and basically as things move forward, they effectively cut into line ahead of the people that have been waiting 5-10 minutes because there's no separation between the grill queue and the sauce stand. Overall, a good mongo stir-fry joint though. read more
