Of course the water heater blows on a Saturday night. I started making calls at 7:00 am Monday morning. After having the stoner with the Amsterdam bumper sticker from one shop give me a very bloated estimate on what it costs to replace a standard water heater, I started thinking why not upgrade to a tankless or solar system? BNB Solar was the voice of reason. I had a couple of pricey quotes from local companies on what various systems would cost me, and then I got a call back from BNB Solar. They said they couldn't set me up with solar right away, but if I could get a new propane water heater installed, they would come and help me tie it in to a solar system for a very reasonable price when their schedule allowed. People need their hot water. Tomorrow I'll be calling Home Depot. I'll let you know how it goes.

I do, have a fully working system. Based on this, I would have given them a 4 or 5 star review. They are losing 2 stars because, this company is going through some growing pains that significantly impacted communications and scheduling on my project. Not all the delays were their fault, but I would have preferred more proactive communication from them. In hindsight, I wish I had made two changes to the contract: (1) Add specific detail about communication expectations especially regarding supply chain and scheduling delays (2) Revise final payment terms from "sign-off of permit", to "full commissioned and working system, with sign-offs from City and Power Company."

Once they started they were great and thorough thru the install. Unfortunately it stopped there. With the snow we had this year a tree branch fell off a tree and shattered one of my panels. I called in on 2/27 asking for a price to replace it and was told they would have to get back to me. Ok no problem, I'm sure I was one of dozens of calls they got for that same thing. Fast forward to Monday April 3, I emailed the owner directly because I have not heard anything back after what I feel was a very generous amount of time I waited. No response. Keep in mind all I wanted was a price on a panel and I would even be willing to install it myself. I waited another week and still no response. Sunday April 9 I emailed the owner again asking for a price or at least a model number so I knew what to order. I got a (what I deemed as) rude email back telling me "currently working on the April 14 NEM 2 deadline all service calls and correspondence has been put on hold until we get past this deadline. Ryan and Next Level Energy exceeded our expectations navigating us through the varied options of…read moreresidential solar. We bought a 1932 fixer upper and installing solar was an early priority, knowing full well some electrical upgrades and an re-roof of the garage would be needed. Ryan has expertise in roofing and has worked in solar for a long time. The roofers did a fantastic job adding details at my request, like a ridge vent, and details I did not expect. The main service panel was upgraded and the coordination with the electrical contractor, county permitting, PG&E, and the solar installation team was seamless. Communication was timely and excellent as was follow through. Ryan picks up the phone, which was refreshing after many calls and e-mails to another local installer who never responded within the timeline promised. I had researched solar for months and despite having the ability to DIY the project, the time saved to focus on my career and other home projects and not do all the paperwork and coordination myself was money well spent. The system is the most reputable and reliable gear on the market backed with a solid guarantee which provides us peace of mind for years to come and tremendous savings on utilities!
