The main service panel was upgraded and the coordination with the electrical contractor, county permitting, PG&E, and the solar installation team was seamless. Communication was timely and excellent as was follow through. Ryan picks up the phone, which was refreshing after many calls and e-mails to another local installer who never responded within the timeline promised. I had researched solar for months and despite having the ability to DIY the project, the time saved to focus on my career and other home projects and not do all the paperwork and coordination myself was money well spent. Fast forward to Monday April 3, I emailed the owner directly because I have not heard anything back after what I feel was a very generous amount of time I waited. No response. Keep in mind all I wanted was a price on a panel and I would even be willing to install it myself. I waited another week and still no response. Sunday April 9 I emailed the owner again asking for a price or at least a model number so I knew what to order. I got a (what I deemed as) rude email back telling me "currently working on the April 14 NEM 2 deadline all service calls and correspondence has been put on hold until we get past this deadline. As you mentioned this is not a warranty issue and it is not an emergency". I'm sorry I didn't realize you couldn't find 3 minutes get me a price on a panel or even tell me your reason for the delay within the almost 2 months I've waited. This is the level of service after the sale $58,000 gets you. After a few return calls to fix minor problems. The system now has been working great for eight months. I am very happy with my new Electric bills! On the minus side, once they received their final payment, they were extremely difficult to get a hold of. Also, they spontaneously offered me a $500 Amazon card for referring a friend who also put in a system. I reminded them as tactfully as I could of this about four times and I have yet to see the card. My friend also made a recommendation and she has not received a card either.

My wife and I are so glad that we decided to use Energy Docs as our contractor. During the summer…read moreour AC was constantly running and struggled to keep the inside below 80 degrees. Our ducting was also beginning to tear and break apart, so we kept finding pieces of ducting in our air registers. We called several contractors and eventually decided to have Energy Docs come see our home. Mike and his crew came and did some tests to see how our home was actually performing. After the test, he gave us a report that gave incredibly detailed information. We saw how much airflow we were losing from the house itself, how much airflow we were losing through our ducting, we even saw thermal imaging of where heat was entering our house through the walls and recessed lighting. He gave us estimates as to how much the project would cost, and how much we could expect to save. We were able to use the REU Home Performance Program which returned roughly half the project cost in rebates! During the project, the entire Energy Docs crew was nothing less than excellent. They started our project in early August, and spent the next two weeks baking in our attic. They would work until it was too hot to handle the materials anymore. With these conditions, they were still friendly and happy to answer any questions we had. They finished the project on time, and even slightly under budget. When they were done, they cleaned up after themselves and even did some repair work that made the house look even better. Two weeks after the project has been finished, it is a night and day difference in our home. There are no more temperature differences in the various rooms. Our house sits at a comfortable 75 degrees. My wife and I have been so relieved that the project went according to play and there were no horror stories. Of course the water heater blows on a Saturday night. I started making calls at 7:00 am Monday morning. After having the stoner with the Amsterdam bumper sticker from one shop give me a very bloated estimate on what it costs to replace a standard water heater, I started thinking why not upgrade to a tankless or solar system? BNB Solar was the voice of reason. I had a couple of pricey quotes from local companies on what various systems would cost me, and then I got a call back from BNB Solar. They said they couldn't set me up with solar right away, but if I could get a new propane water heater installed, they would come and help me tie it in to a solar system for a very reasonable price when their schedule allowed. People need their hot water. Tomorrow I'll be calling Home Depot. I'll let you know how it goes.

If it wasn't much of a loss, I would be ok with just helping the environment but it is a huge cost. We are using less electricity now than were then (fewer people living here and we are gone from the home approx 2 months a year), and still when adding the lump sum payment due to REU annually and the payments on the remaining $18,000 owed of the $40,000, we were much better off with no solar. And to add insult to injury, the system stops working every year (which you have to monitor). Save yourself the cost and instead make a generous contribution to an environmental charity and you'll come out better financially and your donation will help the cause of saving the environment in a more effective manner.
