Stopped by with a friend after Pilates. As soon as you walk in, the smell is so delicious. We decided to go for wings because we definitely wanted to try the BBQ sauces. I got the smoky BBQ and my friend got the sweet. Both were honestly delicious and the chicken was tender. For sides, I got fries and cornbread. Both were solid. I also got a sangria and a smash burger to go. The burgers coming out looked delicious. The place is pretty casual and laid back. The service was also good. I was in the Bronx and wanted ribs so my friends and I ordered a full rack, some brisket, Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, and wings. Service was friendly and personable. And our bbq cravings were not disappointed. The meat was moist, flavorful, and fell apart easily. This BBQ place satisfied every craving we had for bbq. We also ordered fried Oreos, banana pudding and fried twinkies. The fried twinkies took us by complete surprise -like a funnel-cake on crack... the meal and desserts were so comforting and indulgent on this cold winter's work day. I always get the same thing with my coworker/friend - Brisket and Wings (BX Bomber flavor) our sides are the Brussels, beans and mac&cheese. Allllll of them are so good. Beans are a little spicy which I love. Mac&cheese is good bbq spot mac&cheese (there's a difference lol) Brussels are probably some of the best I've had. All of the sauces are great too. Wow - was on my way somewhere else for lunch & stumbled into their hickory smoke wafting down Bruckner Boulevard, & immediately changed my plans. DEF the right move ! They are now part of the pantheon of top Texas-style smoked BBQ places in NYC. The brisket was done perfectly, & was not too salty. The buffalo wings were also amazing - they get some smoke & some zesty spices before they get hit w/ the buffalo sauce - they are now prob tied for my fav buffalo wings in the city. They also have some crazy beer pouring contraption which guarantees perfect pours - I just wish they had a German pils. Very clean & nice inside, & very friendly staff. They are also next to an amazing bookstore - The Lit Bar - which also has a wine bar in the back (?!), & which is somehow the Bronx's only bookstore ?!? We went to Hudson Smokehouse on Saturday. The food was good for the most part. Some of the ribblets were hard, the pastrami was so good, the cheddar sausage was good, The potato salad had to much mustard but was good. You had to go to the counter and order your food but they brought you your food and your drink. The ambiance was quiet and clean. Great cornbread. Service for delivery is prompt. Haven't been inside to view the ambience but when I walk pass the building and look inside, it seems cool. Wish there were some beef rib options and a way to receive the roasted corn without cheese but they don't allow special requests. I mostly use UberEats for this place. read more

This is really one of my happy places. I've come here a lot over the years, but have leaned into the meats regularly. Today i felt for a burger and knowing that my first burger from here blew me away. Stood in line to place my order. I was disappointed to hear from the person taking my order that they now only had smash burgers. My previous burger was a juicy thick patty that was phenomenal. However the smash burger did not disappoint, . It was juicy , plenty meat, seasoned well and great. I had my burger with cheese, and bacon and was pleasantly surprised. It is a big burger but worth every bite. I also ordered a side of fries that were thick, well seasoned and served hot and crispy. Hudson keeps rolling out the winners and it is always a pleasure. I was craving some meat in Mott Haven and noticed this restaurant as we were walking. It had a decent rating and I haven't had American BBQ in a while. So, we walked in with expectations low. Food: 3.5/5 I ordered the hog combo (2 meats + 1 side) for $26 (after tip and card fee around $34) with brisket and pulled pork. I appreciated that gave me lean and fatty brisket but, the pulled pork was absent any sauce so very dry. There are sauces on the table but, I am used to it being already covered in a sauce to keep the pork moist and tender. I ordered the brussel sprouts for my side which were swimming is a maple and cinnamon sauce with walnuts and cranberries. I gave my combo 3/5. My partner ordered the same combo but with burnt ends and turkey. I will admit, the turkey was very tender and will probably order that next time. He ordered the mac and cheese and that was okay (no cheese pull). My partner really enjoyed their combo and would give it 4/5. All in all, I have had better American style BBQ but, this is one of the few options in the South Bronx and it is not bad. It is not too far from the train so I may come back. read more

I went to Hudson Smokehouse tonight and was sadly a bit disappointed with the food. My partner and I ordered the 3 meat weekend special with rib tips, wings, and brisket, and a side of collard greens, Mac and cheese, and cornbread. All of the meat was on the dry end and the sides were almost inedible. The Mac and cheese tasted very artificial and almost had a plastic after taste while the collard greens were better but definitely lacking depth of flavor. The one redeeming part of our meal was the cornbread. Truly 10/10! We also ordered drinks (the passion fruit sangria and mango margarita) and both were good and decently well-balanced. Hubs isn't a BBQ fan, but when he wants to get primal and get his 'cue on, he likes giving new BBQ spots a try. So when we came to a block party in Mott Haven back in July, hubs took notice of this spot and since then, he's had Hudson at the back of his mind. Whether it's my husband or me, we always like to kickstart our first time at ANY restaurant ordering small plates instead of bigger ones- just so we can find out what makes that particular restaurant tick. Plus to be honest, sometimes I feel appetizers are actually the most exciting part of a menu. Hudson's brick inside is very nice on the eyes and service was pleasant. Hubs decided to just wing it and order in person while I got a few things from elsewhere to share when we got to my Mom's house. Hubs and my mom enjoyed the roast pork, brisket's tenderness and the glaze taste in the pork belly burnt ends, but they felt, the 'cuero' was mushy and missed that extra crunchy skin. Bronx BBQ done the real way! The Hudson Smokehouse will astound you! For a friend's birthday celebration, I booked a table for ten people. Although reservations are not required, I did so in advance due to the size of my gathering. The venue is rustic with an outside dining area, and it's located in the center of the South Bronx. We were seated at our table immediately after being greeted by the staff. The menu offers a wide range of choices. I served a few sharing dishes at the table, keeping things simple: creamy coleslaw, delightful and flavorful cheesy potatoes, crisp cucumber salad to brighten the palate, and great crunchy brussel sprouts! There are a few BBQ selections available, but I went with the 1/2 brisket for my meal, which comes with your choice of side. I went with the Hudson rice. This dish was incredible; the rice had a ton of flavor and the meat was moist and tender. I had a crisp and delicious prosecco that I ordered. I had to order dessert since I couldn't leave without having some, and the banana pudding was amazing! The bananas were fresh, the pudding was incredibly fluffy, and the flavor was just perfect. They also offered some delicious additional alternatives, like fried twinkies and Oreos! The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. The food is delivered to you when it's ready; ordering is done at the counter, and service was prompt. The owner was really kind and accommodating to my group. The portions are good for the pricing range and the prices are reasonable. Here, credit cards and cash are both accepted. Since the location is close to the subway, you can definitely use public transportation there. If you intend to drive, you can park by driving around the block a few times. Who goes to the Bronx, for the first time in their entire life (of over four decades), and decides to eat barbecue for lunch? I guess you just can't take the Southern out of me no matter how dressed up I am. But, if you've been to Hudson you know why I couldn't resist. I found myself on Bruckner Boulevard visiting other businesses and Noon came a calling. Of course Yelp was my first source for perusing the options, but then my nose caught a familiar smell. It was comforting, like a soft fluffy blanket wrapped around my soul. It was the aroma of pork cooking over a open flame. I questioned myself, knowing geographically where I stood at the moment. Could it being? Could such a beautiful place as the Bronx also cradle brisket and beans in its bosom? Yes, it could and it does. I went for the brisket sandwich and three sides (two is never enough). I knew I was in for something delicious when I sat down and saw a roll of paper towels and a multiple bottles of house made sauces on the table. And I was right. Brisket so succulent, juicy, flavorful (not just in the rub, but the meat itself). A beautiful brisket (and this being the Prom Queen of brisket) is cooked in such a way the fat renders enough to saturate each bite, but not too much to become gristle. I had to put the sandwich down and move on to the beans, collards, and mac n cheese. Now there's the mac n cheese you have at home or get at the drive-through, but then there's the proper version. The version that was baked in a pan and has dark spots from where it browned on top in the oven. The version your memaw made extra of because even the pickiest of eaters in the family got a scoop of that good stuff at the holiday gathering. And I'm guessing someone's memaw is back in their kitchen because that is exactly what I came face-to-face with at Hudson. Green beans and collards; cooked to perfection, just enough ham bits to enhance but not overwhelm. I don't dream of food, but if I ever do I hope 1) it's a culmination of all the amazing dishes I've tasted, 2) I have a unlimited appetite, and 3) that somewhere in the mix is Hudson's. When and if I return to the Bronx, I will also be returning to Hudson's. Until then, have some brisket for me. And if time allows, try and tell me about their banana pudding. read more

As one of the first bbq joints in the budding south Bronx restaurant scene, I definitely wanted to give this place a try. Unfortunately, I was not impressed. The prices at this place are pretty standard for an a la carte smoke house. Obviously everything adds up because you're buying things separately. I also liked that they had unique items like jerk chicken. It was cool to se something different. Here's what I had and my thoughts on each item: Jerk chicken sandwich with slaw- chicken was dry and the seasoning seemed to be caked on. Not too spicy. The coleslaw was very liquidy and had a subtle pineapple flavor. Not really enough to call it a pineapple slaw. Greens - bland no flavor or seasoning. Macaroni and cheese- meh. No cheese pull. Greased up noodles that's look like they are covered in cheese, but the cheese is undetectable BBQ baked beans - best thing I ate. Really good. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing by getting the chicken, but the sides should be good on their own. It wasn't the worst I ever had but I wouldn't go back here again. read more

Wonderful find in the Mott Haven area! I visited Hudson on a Friday, which worked out perfectly for me- Hudson offers a few specials available during the weekend so of course I happily agreed to choosing the special- the one I chose is named "Pig" ... they have different options but this was perfect for me- I had the brisket with bbq baked beans.... Yummmmmmmmm nomnomnomnom. What's also great is that the brisket is juicy and tasty on its own, yet Hudson offers four different sauces to drizzle on your meat for a nice flavor and/or spice kick. This place is in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx and very close to Spanish Harlem. We ordered wings, collard greens and Mac n cheese. Everything was good but the collard greens were hands down my favorite and the best that I have had in a while from a restaurant. The beer was also amazing. I was curious and asked one of the owners, Kenny, what was the black on the bottom of the cup for. He showed me the beer being filled into the cup from the bottom up. 100% oxygen! No nitrogen. The flavor was optimal and watching the process was fun. Drinking the beer was even more fun. Would definitely come back. We walked in at a little after 12 and staff was sans masks. Ate: Brisket sandwich Pork ribs 1/2 chicken Collards Green beans with bacon Mac and cheese The brisket and ribs were truly outstanding. Super smoky and the brisket was soooo moist with that legendary char. I didn't like the chicken at all. White meat that was a little dry and some odd breading on top- I would skip. I had a Pulled Pork Sandwich with cornbread and my friends and I shared a rack of ribs. The bun for the sandwich was warm and sweet. Loaded with pulled pork with a yummy smokehouse flavor. Hudson smoked bbq was great as far as customer service. Their servers and cashiers are very informative. The wings were just okay and the Brussel sprouts are just not to my liking. They seasoned them with cranberries and sweet maple drizzle, something I'm not used to at all but also didn't taste as good as it sounds. I asked for my wings well done and they were still just lightly cooked. The sangria is on point and happy hour is a great deal of prices. I'm hopeful when I return I will try something different and have a different view point. The one thing I thing they're know for is their astonishing brisket but I didn't have it today.
