NO Cute!! First off Let me say "I have been a long time Pee Dees customer Since they opened in 1990 and "Sam" was the main cook in this first location." This place basically fed my hubby and I through two pregnancies, many anniversaries and so many other life events. When I had wight loss surgery, my so called "last meal" was here. Even after WLS I found myself using their evolved menu with seafood and salads and ever fresh cooked sides. This was my happy place for BBQ in the city. But the food I received today was over priced and over cooked and not tasty at all. I ordered the half chicken with two leg-thighs instead. First he charged me $3.00 extra (without telling me) then they came chard to death and soaked in bbq sauce. This location on 110th Street and 3rd avenue was the first of two in Harlem. But it now qualifies as just another money grab with no quality to it any more. My whole order came up to $60 for lunch. Three plates and this was the quality of just mine. My son and I ordered the chicken fingers lunch which came with the following choices, baked potato or rice, salad or coleslaw and garlic bread. The chicken wings choices are buffalo, BBQ, grilled teriyaki, applewood BBQ or fry. There are several surf and turf items available and several house combos for your liking. The prices are reasonably priced and I believe the food is worth it. The salad was really good as well. They gave a real salad and not a salad of just lettuce. I have been going to this place for 12 years. I paid $24.99 for BROILED SALMON and it was so burnt I throw it away. I met my gf at her job for lunch. While super hot she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I asked her where she wanted to go and she said Ricardo's Steakhouse which is "right down the block". Well I know Ricardo's and if she meant 2 avenues and 15 blocks she'd be spot on. Turns out she meant the Pee Dee Steakhouse. We finally get there and I'm in a time warp. Reminds of Tad's steaks circa 1980. You walk in, get a paper menu. There is a stack of cafeteria trays to the right a big guy in front of a grill and about 15 feet of "Greek Diner" glass cases as you walk toward the register. We give our order to the grill guy. Anyway, she wanted their version of surf and turf which included fried shrimp for the surf and one of 3 steaks as the turf. She went with the 10 oz sirloin. Having not so fond memories of Tad's and their super thin and super tough steaks that I couldn't chew when I had a full set of teeth, I went with more of a local specialty...fried whiting. You get choice of potato and either salad or coleslaw. She took the baked and I went with the fries. We both had a salad. We find a seat in the back. In a few minutes the register guy says our food is ready. I am instructed to go get a tray, bring it to the register guy where our food is waiting. He makes our salad( so drenched with dressing it was probably more calories than the fries, I can feel my arteries clogging already) and makes our drinks(only fountain soda/lemonades or mini bottles of wine). I get a Diet Coke since I want in the mood for a mini bottle of Boone's Farm. He rings me up and the price is like $54 plus I toss in $8 for a tip(I always tip big). As I carry my tray with the food on it to my princess who reminded me 36 times she wanted French dressing(I explained the blue cheese was mine which temporarily calmed her down). We then begin to dig in. I was surprised we had real plates and metal cutlery which was a good thing since my baby's steak had the consistency of shoe leather. I sat back and smiled as she began to hack away kinda like a lumber jack chopping down a tree. She admitted the steak was a "little tough" which was a monumental moment in our relationship. I guess she'll be more appreciative when I take her to Bobby Vans or Capital Grill next time. Anyway, my fried whiting was good and the drenched salad was tasty. I surprised that the fries were soggy and not done right. The princess was able to eat her fried shrimp(which she loved) and asked for a styrofoam container to put the shoe leather in where I suspect she'll use a chain saw on it tonight, away from my prying eyes. Overall the place was OK but I couldn't help thinking for my $62 I could have went to Cipriani's or Bobby Vans for the $29 prix fix down by Wall Street. I eat here pretty often because you cannot beat the flavor of grill steaks and the price is good enough for me to eat here multiple times a week. Im a meat eater, and a big dude so i need big boy portion. This spot always hit the nail on the head for my craving. Very casual, got tv and clean. They got 2 locations, both are excellent everytime i visit. Their garlic bread is super good, and come with the meat order. They give salad too. Big meny to choose from, fish and chips, shrimps, fish... you name it. I like the fact that their steak is grilled on charcoal. You cant beat charcoal grilled flavor. I just happened upon this place while shopping and a random stranger told me they had good food so I decided to try them out. The service was good; the staff were friendly enough. The menu and the ordering process was slightly confusing but when asked the staff was able to simplify the process. I ordered the Big Daddy Steak (12oz) which came with 3 sides: I chose yellow rice, tossed salad and garlic bread which is actually not optional. I also ordered a side of mussles in garlic butter sauce and a fountain drink. The food was mediocre.To tell the truth both the steak and mussels freshness were questionable. The steak was bland and grey in color which I attributed to the lack of seasoning. It had an after taste that suggested it was on the brink of going bad which perplexed me since I saw the grillman remove the steak from its packaging and it had a nice red hue. The mussels themselves were fresh but the sauce they were cooked didn't taste right at all. The rice was fine and the garlic bread was more butter than anything. Overall, I was not impressed. My total came to $25+ dollars and it was not money well spent. They advertise a bar that only serves a few domestic drafts and Sutter Home wine consisting of one white and one red choice. Would I ever try this place again? Maybe. I believe everyone and place deserves a second chance. Perhaps this was an off night. However, I will not go out of my way to give said second chance. The cashier man was obviously drunk and his customer service skills were horrible. Me and my friend witnessed him disrespect at least 4 customers with his negative attitude. My friend payed for the food and asked him about the cheese and his reply was and I quote " don't bother me with that, asked them over there referring to the grill cooks. A woman asked him for a take home baggie and he slings it at her ever so rudely. I have eaten here often but I doubt I would go again because of this whom I believe was the manager on shift. Outback Steakhouse and other chain steakhouses like that mostly use microwaves, and after coming here, you can really taste the difference with a steak that just came off the grill and has that smoky charcoal taste. The prices are great, especially considering the portions are enormous! The 8 oz sirloin was only $12 for the lunch special, and came with a side (baked potato, mashed potatoes, or rice), salad or coleslaw, and garlic bread. The fried whiting was even more delicious than the steak; $16, also with a side, salad or coleslaw, and garlic bread. The fish was well seasoned and sliced thin so that the outside was perfectly crispy. The portions were so large that I couldn't even finish it all; I brought half of the fish home and baked it, and it was still delicious even reheated. My only complaint would be the mashed potatoes; they were dry and lacked seasoning. However, I will definitely be back here again. read more

When you walk in there's a narrow path with some tables lined up on the left that lead to a slightly larger back area with a TV. We were greeted by a a really nice guy that I believe was the cook. The portion sizes were huge for the price which again, was great. The steak was a bit thin but what I expected for an 8 oz lunch special steak; however, it was well seasoned. The rice was your typical yellow rice, salad was a bit overdressed, and the garlic bread tasted like typical garlic bread, maybe a bit on the blander side. The highlight was the fried fish.
