My first trip to Hudson's was because it was close to the office and my lunch meeting "heard it was pretty good". I had a cup of homemade roasted vegetable bisque and the oyster Po Boy and was instantly sprung. I came back the following week and tried the blackened salmon and have been eating lunch there about twice a week ever since. I've tried a lot of different dishes from the lunch and dinner menu's and it's always consistently great quality food. Homemade soups daily, fresh ingredients and a solid menu keep me coming back. The only dish I have to single out is the grits with egg any style and biscuit. These are hands down the best grits I have ever eaten and I don't make that statement easily. My grandmother would agree that they are even better than hers. This food makes you SMILE! :-D The waitstaff? Where do you start with these chic's? Incredible service from people that make you feel like you're in cahoots on the BEST inside joke ever! How do you give less than 5 stars for this? You don't. read more

2nd Worst Chicken Fried Steak I'm still trying to find CFS that is anywhere close to what I had in TX growing up. Hudsons is NOT the place. I've only had 1 other CFS that was worse than the awful leather elbow patch they battered and served us as Chicken Fried Steak. We literally couldn't chew the pieces properly no matter how small we cut them and cutting them was a trial too. The batter was drowning in grease and falling off the meat. The meat, gravy, and batter all lacked enough (any?) seasoning. The mashed potatoes were starting to form gluten and getting gluey because the starch was breaking down from too much whipping. The broccoli raab was tasty though. It is a tragedy when the green veggie is the best thing on a plate of CFS. read more

I ordered the chicken fried steak, but couldn't bring myself to eat more than 2 bites. The steak might have been salvageable, but the gravy was like nothing i had encountered before and not in a good way. My husband ordered the pancakes, which were amazing! Unfortunately they heaped the eggs, and really undercooked fatty bacon that looked like it had been boiled on top of them. Still they were the only thing that saved this place. Well, like so many people, I kept driving by wondering what all the people were doing in such an interesting building that looked like it was a coffee shop, that looked like a place to eat. So I ventured in one morning for coffee and was greeted by a very nice barista who announced that I was a "new" face. He made a fine cup of coffee but I am not a fan of the coffee brand they use. I bugged my husband to go to dinner with me last night, Friday, and we arrived at 6:30 just in time for a table to open up. The waitress greeted us and sat us at the table--no seats at the bar--drats. The details: 1. the service was super slow, only 1 waitress for the place. There are about 10 4-top tables; not outrageous for at least 2 waitresses! 2. The server was not super trained. At least get a drink order your first time to the table...we waited and waited just to get our first beer (which was not super cold). Server also not a super great observer...we needed to ask twice for more beer. 3. The food was not super good! The fries looked good, but not really. The burger was as done as an hunk of shoe. And don't bother to order your salad with a side of dressing--it arrived chopped and dressed. Super disappointing service, food, beer and price all mixed together. Am I being overly hopeful to try breakfast??? read more

Food was decent service was terrible. Waitress did not seem to care she forgot to put in our appetizer order. I asked for lemon wedges for mine and my wife's water several times. At the end when it was time to pay I reminded her about the lemons and she said well it was that kind of night. As I looked around there were only two tables having dinner. Worst service I've ever got absolutely no regards or customer service. I will never go back no matter how good the food is which was not above average at best. This place needs to decide if it wants to be a bar or a restaurant, because I don't appreciate being drawn in by a large sign that says "breakfast, lunch and dinner" only to be turned away for having a baby in tow. I get kids don't belong in bars and I absolutely avoid places that are for adults only when I can't abide by the rules and/or proper courtesies. Criticize me all you want, but I was legitimately confused; i thought the bench seating was going to be allowed, like most places in this city, but really this place is nothing but a bar apparently. So please, Hudson, why don't you make your 21+ signs as big as your food ones, so those of us who'd rather not be embarrassed by rude servers can go somewhere else and grab lunch. read more

I had heard about this place and wanted to try it. I went in and had the shrimp and grits it was delicious but probably not very healthy for me. Ha ha the service was reasonable. And the wait staff were friendly. The place is very small and very crowded. That's the only drawback to going here. But I would like to return and try some of the other items on the menu. read more

Two weeks ago our "breakfast club" chose the Hudson. None of us had ever been there or had even spoken to any one that had. We were going strictly on reviews online. It seemed like our kind of place - small, local and well-established. Two of our club of six ordered the Hudson's house specialty - chicken fried steak. Two others ordered the Federal Scramble, a straightforward mushroom, spinach and tomato scrambled egg dish. Another had a hash dish and the other the shrimp and cheesy grits combo. Bottom line: one of our most disappointing places ever. The chicken fried steak was the WORST. One bite was all it took to declare it uneatable. It was way, way too salty for both who ordered it. The server was understanding and after checking with the chef informed us that the excess salt was in the flour coating. We accepted her offer to make it again but with a new coating. After a considerable wait we were presented with another steak --- one bite, still uneatable, too salty. After peeling away the flour coating it was obvious that it was the meat not the coating that was too salty. We simply pushed the plate away and told the server we couldn't eat it. At that point we were done. The two who got the scrambles were quite disappointed as well. While they said it was tasty it was COLD, not refrigerator cold but certainly less than even warm. Rather than create a fuss they ate most of their food and vowed to go somewhere else next time. The shrimp and grits dish was surprisingly spicy - and not in a good way. The hash dish got just an "OK." The final disappointment, the bill. The Hudson discounted the bill by the cost of one chicken fried steak but not for both even though we left them on the table uneaten. Then the last straw, they slapped on an 18% "gratuity" because we were supposedly a "large party." In five plus years our club has been to dozens and dozens of restaurants and we have only encountered the large group auto-tip rule one time and that was when there were 8 in our party. We certainly didn't see this coming. At this point we didn't have a menu to check on this rule but later while reviewing their website we noted that it does say "We reserve the right to add an 18% gratuity to parties of six or more." In our case the Hudson not only reserved the right but it enforced it. So we get two dishes that we couldn't and didn't eat, and two dishes that were served cold, yet we got jabbed with an 18% gratuity. Maybe they figured that they wouldn't get much out of a small "group" that was obviously disappointed - and guess what, they were right. We are always above average tippers but clearly the Hudson didn't deserve anything close to 18%. Our last remaining option: vote with our feet and never return and then let others know about our experience. read more

Great food, service, and ambience. Food came out fast and was delicious. Ordered the chicken and a biscuit (take on a pot pie) and it was amazing. Plenty left for the next day, although I ordered an extra biscuit to take ho e. Ala cartel ordering is pretty pricy - best to stick with an entree rather than trying to create something not on the menu. There were parking spaces out front, and street parking down the side road. i happened upon this place tonight, not meaning to eat or drink but instead thought i was walking to a coffee shop. it was a pleasant surprise and i have to say.... chicken strips for the win!!!!! had my first "dark and stormy". not sure what it was supposed to taste like but it tasted like rum and ginger beer and made me all warm and fuzzy inside. read more

This place tries too hard to be really hip & cool but they are so focused on that they forget they need to have good food & good service first, then try to amp up the hip factor! Went here on Sunday for a late lunch and ordered two simple drinks first off...then proceeded to wait 15-20 minutes for a bloody mary and a gin tom collins!! GRRRRRRRRRR Then waited another 15 minutes or so for super greasy, obviously days old re-heated fries. There was never an apology to explain if they were having staff issues or anything, I just felt like the staff couldn't care less and were more worried about when their smoke brakes would be rather than making sure customers enjoyed themselves. I give them 1 star, (I would make it zero if possible) for lousy service but 1 star because the sandwich I ordered tasted pretty decent. I heard they have po boy sandwiches during the week, wish they had them on the weekend though but given the shitty service I probably won't be going back. read more

after driving by this place many times, i finally got to try it out. i was excited to try out their eats, but was left a little unimpressed. i orderd a green salad with blue cheese dressing, which the server boasted as homemade. unfortunately, homemade also meant no flavor. the dressing lacked the typical "bite" you want from a blue cheese dressing and didn't have much flavor overall. i ordered the brisket which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. the first few bites were tasty. by the time i was finishing the portion - which was generous, all the gravy/sauce was gone. this left me with a big piece of plain brisket with not much flavor. the saving grace was the apple crisp for dessert. although the portion was a little on the small side, it was tart and sweet with just enough crisp on top. my friend ordered the special - espresso rubbed ribeye and this was AWESOME. made me want steak. thankfully he had some gravy left on his plate, which i used to eat the rest of my brisket. i'd go back, but first impression was a little...meh. read more

Chef Ramsay would be very disappointed.Two stars only because the waitress was a sweetheart. There were four of us eating and we all left food on our plates.The chicken fried steak was a huge chunk of grissle.. not edible.... my deep fried cat fish swam in grease , the grilled chicken sandwich was served on a cold average roll, and the grilled catfish with greens was only fair.... Don't know how this place stays in business... The environment is charming and it could have a great business with a new menu and some decent food. read more

I eat out for breakfast A LOT and I think I am somewhat a Bloody Mary connoisseur. I just love Hudson! Just went again over this past weekend, and I was impressed yet again. Their Bloodies are peppery and spicy without being just hot... lots of flavor. I really wanted breakfast tacos, but thought all breakfast tacos were the same...again, impressed on how fluffy the eggs were and how perfect all the layers came together. Their hash browns are light and fluffy and have a perfect crisp to them. Had some of my friend's veggie "chicken friend steak" and it was so good, too! Also love the atmosphere and that it is only 21 and over. I really don't want screaming kids next to me when I am enjoying my Bloody and breakfast. read more

I've eaten here twice, and enjoyed it both times. My Southern Belle friend LOVES the chicken fried steak. Says it's one of the best ever. I like the atmosphere. It's simple. The patio is cute, though I haven't been there when it was nice enough to sit out there. We'll definitely continue coming to Hudson. read more

We've been coming here for a few years now. The food is really good and the Bloody Mary's are awesome. Try one with gin, "red snapper". 21and over makes it really nice, no whiny kids. It's a great place for food and drinks but most of all the staff is fantastic. There are a lot of good bars out there, I return to my favorite places because of the staff. This was my first time exploring the Industrial District of Seattle.When we got there the place was packed! Seating both in the dining area and bar were full. Luckily our wait time was only about 15 minutes. They provided coffee while waiting, which was nice. We sat outside on their back patio. Scenery was cool with urban decor and had that real industrial feel. So far my experience was great! However from the time we were seated, and the time we were even greeted by our server was horrifically long. We also had to wait an insane amount of time to get our water. I'm assuming it was the Saturday morning rush of people wanting brunch. However considering this place is popular, you'd think there would be a few more servers. I ordered the Country Fried Steak, and I was not disappointed. It was delicious, and probably one my favorite Country Fried Steaks I've had. To accompany that I had a manmosa which was delicious! Overall the food and drinks were excellent, just wish the service was a little better. I still rated this place a 4 star because I love brunch, and I took into account how popular this place seemed. But i recommend getting more help on those busy rushes! read more

Ordered the Sufferin' Succotash, was told it had lima and black beans, corn and other vegetables. What they REALLY served was a rendition of corn salsa with extra firm tofu...only side dish proportion. I was lookiing forward to buttery succotash. The browns were good, the biscuit on the tough side although it WAS made from scratch. I was unimpressed with the brunch offerings, but I'll try it again for dinner some time. Only have gone for breakfast, and I only order one thing because the brisket omelet is too good to not order repeatedly. Its a meal. A large meal.
