We walked into a sparsely seated restaurant on a Sunday for lunch and were never greeted. After waiting several minutes for the person at the register to finish what they were doing, she walked away. When she came back a bit later, I asked if we're supposed to seat ourselves-- a sincere question. She seemed a tad annoyed and told me my server will be right with me, and she called out to someone to alert them that guests were waiting. The food was alright. The mason jar drinks are a bit of a scam-- you're paying for the experience. I thought my Cajun eggs benny came with potatoes but there was an extra charge for potatoes on my receipt. The experience was not great but I can see how people might find this a fun or cute experience. Not for me, though.

I ordered the Stuffed French Toast with huckleberries and the Swamp Iced Tea. Both were very delicious and tasted fresh. As for service, we were seated quickly and they were quick to take our orders. They brought our food out one by one which I wasn't a fan of but nonetheless it was good!

Went for breakfast for my first time at huckleberry's and had the absolute worst service ever. No one was present when we walked in and stood there for a long time before greeted. When we finally got seated we waited for another 15 minutes for a cup of coffee. We were recommended the binets and ordered them and they came soaking with oil and had the most unappealing fruit dripping off the plate. Our food took forever and one of the three plates (burger) came wrong. We waited another 15 minutes for a new, correct burger. The breakfast burrito was all potato. The chicken sandwich was great, but when asked for a side of ranch, she waited another 10mins for it. The waitress acted like we were bothering her and the table behind us even joked that she may have been drunk or hung over. I will never step foot in this place again. This place lacks management.

Been here quite a few times. Not bad. It's the only place in town that has andouille sausage on their menu And I love andouille sausage. Their andouille sausage plate is my favorite, big breakfast !

Caramel macchiato & huckleberry tea. Very good!

First time at Huckleberries today! And it was an almost perfect experience! It's a nice little cozy cabin looking type of restaurant. Just gives me camping by the campfire vibes. It's nice. Had to wait about 5 minutes before we even saw anyone to seat us though. No one upfront. But we finally got a table in the back of the restaurant, and noticed the floor by our table was super sticky. Then noticed the floors by many of the tables were messy, food crumbs and little pieces of trash. Like they just brush the stuff from the tables onto the floor after a customer leaves? Kind of a turn off, but at least it's the floor. Lol. Tables were clean. Window had a little hand and lip print on them too. Lol Got our menus, than we kinda got forgotten about I think, because it took the one waitress like 15 mins to come back and take our orders. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles with a caramel macchiato. I got some biscuits and gravy with a side of bayou potatoes. Food came out in a decent amount of time, And it was the highlight of the visit, as it should have been lol. My husband just fell in love with his chicken and waffles! So did I, he gave me a bite. :) Chicken was so tender and juicy, had such a nice flavor to it, waffles were fluffy and soft with a slight crisp, they put a big scoop of their amazing maple pecan butter on top with sriracha sauce drizzled all over, green onions and bacon sprinkled on top too! It was just the awesomeness! Lol 10/10 My biscuits and gravy were comforting! Soft fresh biscuits and creamy thick gravy, great flavors! 8/10 Potato's were cooked to perfection, tender but lacking salt, it's okay I'd rather add my own salt anyway. And the bell peppers and red sauteed onions were also tender and cooked well. 9/10 Everything was served hot too! 10/10 Plus portions were big. Great prices too! The caramel macchiato was amazing, not overly sweet like you'd think. That huckleberry tea was so refreshing! I think they add blueberry puree or something, it had real blueberries in it and it was just so good, I actually got a "to go" cup to take it with me! So the place wasn't to crowded at all, maybe 4-5 tables were filled with families. 2 waiters on duty. But we still managed to experience slow service. Not only did they forget to take our order for the first 15 min when we first sat down, but we also had to sit there another 15 mins after we were done eating, waiting for our check and a couple of to go containers. My husband finally had to get up to go look for one of the waiters, which he said he found in kitchen area, on her phone, on a personal call. Lol It's all good, we've had worse service than that else where and both the waitresses were so polite, so it truly wasn't all that bad. Maybe just hire more help? Lol Bottom line is that the food was satisfying and that's the main part. Would definitely return, slow service and all!

This vegetarian skillet was so delicious. I was actually impressed. The flavor was just right. As far as the service, it was okay. I understand it was busy. Although, I must say they were courteous. The place was clean. I will definitely come back.

This place is not for a big party. If you have 6 or more people, expect to wait more than 45 minutes to be seated because they only have one table that seats 6 people. We came in on a Friday morning and were a party of 6. The lady just said we will try to sit you as soon as we could, and that was more than 45 min. However, our server was nice and had a great attitude. The food portions were good, but it took another 30 minutes to arrive even though the restaurant was not full. The food tasted ok. It's not something to brag about. My son's pizza sticks were last to arrive, and I am not even joking they were hot pockets. There is plenty of parking. The restaurant was clean, but I do NOT recommend coming here.

Finally came back to give Huckleberry's another go. This visit I had the Mississippi skillet which was good and I got the Huckleberry muffin which I ended up taking home and one of my son's said it was really good. From both visits I feel like it's nothing spectacular. I think you can pretty much get similar breakfast or brunch at IHOP or a Denny's. I think Huckleberry's is placed around those guys. A nice quick breakfast, but nothing to show off your extended family to. Wait time was not long, but as soon as we were seated the place started getting super busy quick. This seems to be a pretty popular spot so that means freshly made food. That part is definitely a plus if you are wanting to dine in. The bad part is poorly served or undercooked food. My husband's food came out and the veggies didn't look cooked at all. Potatoes came out undercooked and the bell peppers were super crunchy. Veggies won't hurt you, so he just dealt w the crunch. I made a joke and told him his plate looked like a senior plate because it didn't look seasoned. He was actually not happy w the food, but didn't want to make a big deal. Chairs are super uncomfortable. I don't know if I would come back to dine in. I also don't like the booths right by the front where they check people in and out because everyone stares at you eating. I think they should have a wall or privacy or something. Some people don't care, it's just my own preference. I don't like people staring that's all. So if you're like me, wait for a table in the back so all the customers don't stare at you. I rarely use the restrooms when I'm out, but I used there's and it was disgusting. They have 2 stalls in the women's restroom and no one likes to flush apparently. People like to show off their logs of shit right before people eat and that's super duper disgusting to me. They should have workers checking in and tidying the restrooms. Sorry for the description guys... it just makes my stomach turn thinking about it.

French Toast with a side of Huckleberries.
Harold S.

I really enjoyed having breakfast at this place. It is different, very well maintained and the food is great! I ordered the french toast and asked for a side of huckleberry jam. They gave me a cup of what seemed to be a compote made from the huckleberries, not really exactly the same as the jam that they sell in jars. They charged me an extra $2.49 for this, but I thought it was very nice. I would like to see this chain expand to more locations in Southern California.

Bayou Bloody Mary

The crisp bacon definitely added to the flavors of this drink! If you like a good Bloody Mary, try it!

Cajun Fries
William S.

I can only describe Huckleberry's as GREAT! I have not had true Southern cooking in years and that is what I got there. I had the Shrimp Po'Boy. It was excellent. I also had the Cajun Fries. They were also great. The Po'Boy reminded me of Louisiana and I have not been there in 27 years. I absolutely loved Huckleberry's. If you want true Southern food, this is the place.

The Garden Skillet

I keep going back and forth between 1 or 2 stars. But I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was just a bad day. It starting with an exceptionally long wait. We were quoted 20 minutes and after 40 minutes we were again quoted 20 minutes. And it was still beyond that. While waiting, other customers who were waiting started fighting. They were screaming at each other and swearing and threatening violence. It was a bit unnerving, especially with my 5 year old watching. Once seated, no one came to even take our drink order in what seamed like forever. And then the drinks took ages to come. When the food got there, over an hour later, the order was wrong. And when I told her this is not what I ordered, she rolled her eyes as if I was full of it. Like fine lady I'll change what you ordered. But when she came back 30 seconds later with the correct order, she said oh I brought the wrong one out. When we were done eating, we sat another 30 minutes waiting for the bill. And when it came, it was not our bill. When I told the server it was not our bill she said well then whose is it? I was like ummmm idk. After fully investigating everything on our table she determined I was right and went and got our bill. Overall we were there about 2 1/2-3 hours, including the wait. So, not a good experience. But it could've been an off day. I got a garden skillet and it was pretty good.

I ordered the bbq platter and let me tell you...FIRE! 2 ribs, 2 hot links, 2 pieces of chicken ( I went with the thighs) and mashed papas & macaroni and cheese. My hubby ordered the ox tails with rice and gravy & greens. Amazing as well! Side of chili beans cus I had to try and glad I did. Bombtastic! Best peach cobbler in town! And Pepsi products! The GRUB : They have a good southern menu and they have very attentive staff today we got the" Surf and Cluckers" Meal w/catfish, chicken thigh, chicken breast, 5 shrimp, sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese and black eyed peas and Cornbread... and I loved every bit of it the catfish 5/5 stars was tasty well cooked and seasoned just right the chicken breast was filleted (too thin for my liking) 4/5 stars, cooked in a very good batter along with the chicken thigh 5/5 stars the five shrimp 5/5 stars were not jumbo shrimp but we're good enough to satisfy and tasted the same way the catfish tasted in the cornmeal batter, the sweet potatoes were very good and I was surprised at how well they tasted the 5/5 stars Black Eyed Peas where soft and well seasoned 5/5 stars, cornbread was good but colder than I would have liked as it didn't melt the butter 3/5 stars while the macaroni and cheese was nothing to rave about 2/5 stars., honestly for the price it was about as much food as I would have eaten if I went to Hodels for about the same total price for 2 people, however if I had this meal anywhere else outside of Bakersfield it would have cost me approximately twice as much..Great deal for the price. Quick review of Mom's house and I was not disappointed. GIVE THEM A TRY , I've been hesitant on going here since the original owner passed away and it was renamed Mom's House, so my friend who is a sunday regular, offered to buy my lunch here, so what the heck why not just go glad we went ,well try to take the family one day.

The arepas were just cornmeal and cheese, without any of the other ingredients I've usually seen in the past (although they did come with a tasty green salsa). I think my favorite item was the salt and pepper shrimp, which had a really good flavor. Plantains and beans are also delicious. There were a few other dishes we wanted to try, such as the ceviche, but unfortunately they were out of it that night. I would come back again to try some other dishes in the future.

Such a fun and memorable experience from start to finish! My first visit was just with my mom and youngest sister, we instantly felt how warm and welcoming the atmosphere was. Plus, their gift shop is SO cute. It already had me excited before we even sat down! I ordered the Big Easy steak and shrimp combo with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes with brown gravy, and WOW... everything was chef's kiss. The steak was juicy, the creole shrimp were super flavorful, and those complimentary biscuits? Warm, fluffy, and absolutely perfect with butter and jelly. I also got the strawberry peach lemonade, and as a strawberry lemonade lover, I have to say this is easily one of the BEST I've had. So refreshing and packed with flavor! We loved it so much that we had to come back again this time with my more family (my mom, dad, and two younger sisters). On this visit, I went for the crispy homestyle chicken (with mac & cheese and mashed potatoes again), and it did NOT disappoint. The chicken was crispy, hot, fresh, and full of flavor. While I let it cool, I tried the country fried pickles with ranch (my mom's recommendation), and OMG... I'm still thinking about them. Crunchy, tangy, perfectly seasoned--I honestly could've eaten a whole order by myself! Before leaving, I took my time browsing the gift shop again because it's honestly such a fun part of the experience. They have the cutest, most nostalgic finds, and I couldn't leave without grabbing an adorable set of salt and pepper shakers! Across both visits, everything was consistently amazing, and the service deserves a shoutout too because all the worker I encountered were extremely friendly, attentive, and our food came out much faster than expected both times. I officially fell in LOVE with Cracker Barrel after this trip. I already can't wait to come back and bring my boyfriend next time (sadly there aren't any near where I live smh). The rib was probably the best of the meats. The trip was okay. The food is buffet food so I don't have really high expectations. For a traditional family style buffet I would give the a 3.5 on the food. They had a great selection on salads made in house. The meat guy recommended the broccoli salad and I tried it. It was pretty good. It's been at least 15 years since I've had broccoli salad. That did not disappoint. My wife liked the good variety and selection, and the fried chicken was pretty good. My son liked the apple cobbler and their homemade peanut butter cookies. The service was exceptional. Everyone working there was pleasant and friendly. 5 of 5 for service. The atmosphere, the design and theme was very appropriate, although dated it is still very welcoming and appropriate for the venue. With that being said, the carpet was filthy and the upholstery was warn and old. It looks dated and tired. They can keep the overall theme and look, but give the restaurant an updated facelift of sorts. The seasonal decorations were nice. The store gift shop sold miscellaneous items including some of their baked goods, so that was cool. The lighting needs to be updated. That would really enhance their atmosphere. The bathrooms. You can learn a lot about a place from the bathroom. These weren't filthy per se but the floors were pretty nasty. It always grosses me out when my shoes stick to the tiles. The fixtures were on par with a lot of the restaurant, old, dated, and tired. Formica countertops? A lot of these design elements just need to be polished up. I think this is a great part of the Bakersfield community, but I think it's been a bit neglected. It's probably family owned for a while and the kids or whatever have gotten complacent with the business. I'm not saying it is poorly ran and the positive experience with their staff can attest to that. But they can use some freshening up. Tip to owner, I didn't see any take out happening during my visit but in today's food retail market, take out is HUGE! Especially with the Holiday season and football games etc. I have a feeling you are missing out on some of your local market. Reach out if you want a more detailed discussion. Bakersfield is poised to grow and i hope that you are poised to grow as a local business as well. I'm glad we stopped by on our way back to Sacramento.
