I'll be honest and say I was quite surprised by Hardwood Industries. Generally, specialty stores -…read moreif they exist at all - in our small town are more limited in selection. I'd expect to travel to Portland or maybe Eugene to get what I need. Think Asian markets. Which is not to say Hardwood Ind has all the wood species a major market hardwood outlet would carry, just that it has quite a few. In perusing the selection for a project, there must have been a couple dozen varieties lined up nicely in the racks, with the warehouse holding the bulk stock. In terms of service, top notch. After we checked in at the front desk, Zack met us at the warehouse door and showed us the species racks, gave us a brief description of what they had and left us to browse, checking on us every couple of minutes to see if we needed anything. After we made our choice, he was right there to take us to the back warehouse to make our board selections from the pallet, which had quite a lot of quality pieces. A couple of minutes doing that, getting a ticket with the particulars, having the boards loaded in our vehicle, paying at the front desk and we were good to go. Efficient, friendly and helpful. Prices are reasonable too.

I will never go to home depot for wood again. The price was better and the wood was much nicer!

Natural stone of all kinds from ledgestone to veneer to over-sized slabs to flagstone to river rock…read moreto boulders to sand and gravel. If you're looking for lots of stone for a big project, like facing a house exterior on inside fireplace or creating landscape - hardscape, this is a great place to come peruse the options. If you're looking for a small amount of stone for something simpler, ditto. You can even walk about the stone yard and pick out the "just so" pieces if you're doing a very small project. We think one of the coolest things they do here is provide "bird bath rocks". Boulders from small to large which are split, either naturally or on purpose, which can be drilled out with irrigation piping added in the setting of your yard to create a very natural looking little bubbling water feature that birds will love. From song birds to ground birds, like quail, the one we put in among landscaping leading to our front door gets a great workout from birds (and rabbits and squirrels) and the water sound is welcoming for human visitors too. A not so expensive thing to do when planned into landscape and the return is so worth it. Empire Stone also makes stone garden benches out of natural stone materials, each of which is unique. They typically have a couple at the store to look at and can make them to order as well. Very friendly and helpful people work here.
