Tables were spaced generously, allowing for comfortable conversation and a sense of privacy. Our server greeted us with a warm smile and offered helpful recommendations. He checked in periodically to ensure we were enjoying our meal, without ever feeling rushed. With our appetites stimulated, it was time to explore the menu. We decided to go all-in and ordered a selection of dishes: 1) (9/10) Sweet & Sour Soup for starters to warm up the tummy before a feast 2) (10/10) Mongolian Beef with generous amounts of green onions and quality you can taste. The beef tasted like actual beef, a welcome change from the rubbery, starch-laden versions found at many other Chinese restaurants 3) (10/10) Hot Garlic Sauce w/ Chicken (Spicy) has a symphony of bold flavors. Sweet, savory, and with a satisfying fiery heat that kept us reaching for more. For those who like a kick, request to make it spicy! 4) (9/10) Mandarin Walnut Shrimp is one of my favorites that is complemented well with white rice to balance sweet and savory. The shrimp has the right amount of crisp and softness on the inside. 5) (9/10) Chow Fun Flat Noodle was a delicious surprise, resembling Pad See Ew but with a distinctly Chinese flavor profile. The wide noodles were perfectly soft, clinging to a flavorful sauce, with tender, fresh chicken. It was a generous portion, and the leftovers were just as good the next day. 6) (8/10) General Tsao's Chicken is like a traditional orange chicken but with more meat-to-fat ratio. It feels like biting down real meat rather than just batter. 7) (8/10) Udon Noodles only because I'm more of a rice and flat noodle person - this was my teenage daughter's favorite. Surely this place would be good in this neighborhood but wait it's gross. The tables were sticky dirty. We should have turned around and gone to la Madeleine. We thought this must be a hidden gem. Egg rolls were overcooked as was the lemon chicken. How to mess up basic Chinese food? Go here and you'll regret it. The manager was very gracious and removed the dinner from our bill. I love Howard Wangs. Everything is good. Our server was so nice and on top of it. We went on a Sunday and they have lunch specials available. That's unusual. I had the moo goo gai pan. It's so delicious. Came with spring roll and soup. I had hot and sour, which is really good. Hubby had orange chicken and wonton soup. The wonton soup is impressive. It's really like 3.5 stars, but i like to round up. We walked in right when they opened at 11. We were quickly seated and asked for our drink order. After adjusting from outside, it seemed that the air conditioning wasn't on or not working. Got kind of warm during this visit. The wait staff was really great when we got there but got worse over time when more people came in. Our 30-minute lunch turned into a 50-minute lunch due to the time it took to get the bill. The food was great! The lunch specials included a crispy small choice of either an eggroll or crab wonton. Then you have a choice of soup. I can't remember all the varieties but we enjoyed the hot and sour. It was fresh and had a nice quality to it. The entrées were really delicious. The scallops and shrimp in the dishes were large and of excellent quality. Veggies were cooked well, and the sauces tasted like they were made in-house. Overall, there is room for improvement, but given that it's so close to my work, I will absolutely be back to try this place again. I have been going to Howard Wang's for the last 10 years of my life and I've never once had a bad experience until today first my food was incorrect, which is fine that's no big deal. I had it sent back. My rice was forgotten not an issue that's easy things to fix. when it was time to pay the bill, We had a bit of an issue getting the bill figured out. My friend had put down a $20 bill and a card to cover the rest that was not paid in cash. His bill was only $23. They ended up taking his $20 bill and charged his card $20 and then came back charged me for the remainder of his meal, which was $18 when my meal was only 13. which is fine things happen. We could've easily solved that problem by voiding the cards and re paying its whatever but our server decided to be very rude and arrogant charged all of our cards didn't wanna give us money back and assumed that the $20 was his tip even though why would we tip 100% on a $20 meal with subpar service? As I was explaining what happened because it was very obvious what needed to happen in order to get our change correct he walked away from me mid sentence and said that his manager was handling it and he'll come back. My bill is correct and He solved it but my friend's meal was still messed up. They had taken $40 from him and we're not going to do anything about it. They brought the manager out our server. Victor started laughing and saying all right, bro all right bro here's your money back as if they didn't take $40 for a $20 meal. Very bad experience. Do not go here if you want. After staying away for 6 years we decided to try it again. What a mistake. The worst restaurant meal we have had... maybe ever. The Pad Thai was a bunch of ingredients swimming in a watery sugar bath. My order came out before my wife's. She waited for her chicken teriyaki for 10 minutes after my order arrived and it was inedible. The chicken was thin, translucent as if it had been soaked in a chemical bath and was more like chicken jerky. The teriyaki sauce was awful. We didn't eat any of our meal and while we ended up asking for containers to go we threw it out once home. When we mentioned our terrible meal to our sons one of them said they believe they got food poisoning there a few months ago and would never return. That makes 4 of us! read more

My fried wonton side was waaay overdone. My fried rice was not included. My General Tsao's chicken was burnt and inedible. The Beef Lo Mein was "strange" and inedible according to my college student. Was in the neighborhood and thought about trying something different. I've seen the sign for many years and finally decided to give it a try. Plenty of parking. Nice cherry wood décor inside. It was early Friday afternoon and no crowd. The bar had a few patrons that were having a great time! Fried wontons were dropped off as well as menus. Drinks were quickly delivered and our order was on the way to the kitchen. I was busily working on the fresh and good wontons plus the 2 dipping sauces (spicy mustard and a sweet and sour). The spicy was absolutely a nose and sinus clearer! Our food was out quickly. My first course was egg flower soup. The soup was very fresh tasting and the wontons were perfect for it! Right as we finished that course, out came the next. I ordered Mandarin Sweet and Sour chicken and beef with brown rice. The flavors were spectacular! Howard Wang's was once my favorite Asian restaurant, but last night was horrible. There were 5 of us. When we arrived a little after 6:30 pm, we were the only party in the place. Soon after the place started filling up. One of us got their order of sweet and sour chicken. After about 15 minutes, no one else had received their entrees. I asked one of the servers what was going on. Nothing. Finally I asked for the manager. He was very sorry and we got a strange excuse. Within a few minutes 3 more of us got our entrees. One of us still did not. We waited and waited. Finally about 10 or so minutes later the last plate came out. The manager did comp us some money off the bill so I appreciated that. To make things worse was my favorite dish; Hunan Beef. This has always been a favorite of mine, and I always clear my plate. This time it was not great at all. Many of the pieces of beef were grizaly and chewy. In the past the beef in this dish was melt in your mouth tender. Also, there were so many different vegetables in the dish that usual. What once was a good place is going to close soon unless the original owners step back inside and uncover the current mess this place that high-brow people (used) to frequent for a semi-upscale Chinese meal. On "busy" nights, this place is rarely full. Sad. Seems like recent marriages within the family have killed this mini-chain. On to the next, after many years. This place downright sucks now. We were fortunate enough to have an in-person experience at Howard Wang's. It was great to see they are following CDC guidelines for restaurants regarding Covid-19. There were not a lot of people in the restaurant so there was ample room for everyone. As far as the food goes, hands down one of the best around. The orange chicken was so flavorful. The wonton soup will have you wanting more. The vanilla prawns were the absolute best. Everything that I tasted was full of flavor, but not over seasoned. Wow - fallen a long long way and not surprising. We have been regulars for maybe 20 years for good reason . This week was an exception. We had a long day with kids activities and my wife and I showed up at 820pm to unwind at the bar and grab a bite. Firstly, the bartender kept pretending to hear our " dine here" for "to go" about 5 times and looked disappointed when I firmly corrected him. We are not native speakers but we present at 1000 person conferences in English for the last 20 years and have never had any issues. The poor service and attitude continued till we left. Much nicer than average for Americanized Chinese food. I got the Moo Goo Gai Pan for my dinner entree. Portion size was bigger than expected, lot more chicken than expected. The sauce was really flavorful without being too salty. Came with a side of your choice of rice. I got fried rice. Nothing special, and no complaints. If it came with crispy chow mein noodles, would easily be a meal for 2... I didn't see the option on the menu, but I wonder if they'll do it for an upcharge? For my appetizer, I got the wonton soup. It was 'ok'. Flavor was fine, but was a little cold. I got there near the end of the night, so maybe it was the last of the batch? Bet it will be better if it's proper temperature. I got a Hitachino beer, a little steep at $8... Will try a different one next time. Service wise, my server was friendly and attentive. Other staff was friendly too, but a little slow to acknowledge me to get seated. Overall, way better experience than when I went to Jia.
