They got rid of the only good thing they offered - the extra large egg rolls. I called to order a few and tried to confirm that they still had them (it's been about a year since I've been there) but the person answering was not able to communicate that they changed that item to me (language barrier). When I arrived and realized that they were typical Chinese food restaurant egg rolls, I asked why they stopped offering the large ones and was met with a blank stare. It's disappointing. I ordered crab rangu wontons n shrimp lo mein no vegetables . Instead they sent cheeses wontons and Gave me a combo shrimp lo mein with friend rice and vegetables. Whoever took of Our beloved How May has changed to inferior recipes and are not as generous as the OG in giving a complimentary item after spending a certain amount of money. My all time favorite How May special Hot and sour soup is horrible. This soup was a favorite among my family and most family members. We swore it cured a cold! I've been coming here ever since I was little, not that we get Chinese food all the time but when we do, this is where we go. You can order out or dine in, both are good choices. The dining area may look a little out-dated but when you sit down you have noodles, duck sauce, and tea served right away. Their menu is pretty big with plently of options for everyone and the prices are totally reasonable. Personally, I'm a fan of the Moo-Shu Pork, but everything I've tasted from here is great (sesame chicken, moo-shu chicken, wonton and egg drop soup, etc). The service is pretty good and usually doesn't get too packed so it's a quiet dinner. This is my top pick for Chinese food around the Patchogue/Medford area. It's above average food for a good price. You begin by grabbing a paper menu and circling what you want - so no language barrier to deal with at least on the take-out side. We opted for the Egg Drop Soup, Pork Fried Rice (per Jerry's suggestion), Chicken Lo Mein, Steamed Dumplings, and the Curried Beef and Onion. The soup was good and the dumplings large, doughy, and with a good chunk of meat inside. The pork fried rice was excellent with big chunks of pork. The lo mein was decent, and I really liked the curried beef - good balance of curry flavor without overpowering the beef and onion. I'd eat here again. How May has been in the area for some 20 odd years. The place is above average Long Island Chinese fare. Whatever you like at your local place is that much better here. The Pork Fried Rice has a better chunkier pork, The General Tso Chicken's tastier. It's fast the people are friendly. If you are vegetarian they work with you like General Tso Tofu. read more

Have been enjoying take out and eat in at How May's since the early 70's and I have to tell you, they still do not disappoint. Their selection and execution are consistent and met all our expectations. Everything is made fresh and the veggies are never over cooked, grey and limp. We Ordered several Chef's specials we have not had before, just to keep things interesting during these COVID-19 times. We enjoyed iour meals to the last bite. Called in a big to go order Saturday night. I couldn't wait to go here for Chinese takeout. This was a regular for me when I lived in Patchogue. Still in business after all these years. Well I'm surprised cause it was a bad night for me. The tofu and vegetables should be called 3 small pieces of tofu and 99% onions. Terrible. The eggplant dish was so oily I couldn't even eat it. The hot & sour soup actually looked the the same sauce for the SWEET and sour chicken. Totally disappointing! The shrimp and broccoli combo had 4 shrimp. Wth? (Sorry, Patchoguers, but even you have to admit that your home town is not a destination spot for Chinese cuisine).Get into Nassau County, to The Orient, or Fortune Wheel. Or bite the bullet (and some decent food) and continue to Flushing. Or for great new American food in Patchogue, head west on Main street to Perabell. Back to How May. The Dumplings. An exercise in excess dough. Go for the Dim Sum. The Soups. At least the waitress warned us off the Hot and Sour (did she say 'Made with Catsup'?) Went for the Cabbage Soup, which included long strands of pork (beware vegans), a few slivers of cabbage, and no flavor. Maybe add a bit of vinegar, if they have any. The Mains. Kong Po Chicken's only redeeming feature was the Planters peanuts sprinkled in top. Eggplant in Garlic Sauce didn't have any garlic. Both were listed in the menu in red, and there were a few chili pods in each, but no chili flavor, so must've been a typo. Rice. The famous Pork Fried Rice does have dice-sized pieces of overcooked pork, but no discernible egg or scallions. Stick to the Brown Rice. Memo to Self. When checking out a Chinese restaurant, make sure at least one Asian has reviewed it favorably. read more

Let me just say that I came to visit family 2006 and wanted some good NY Chinese food and when I went to the counter to order I was greeted by a cockroach. So now almost 10 years I come back thinking they've cleaned the place up maybe and yet again I look and see a huge cockroach on the wall and on the garbage can inside the restaurant. So I cancel my order and leave in disgust. The health dept. really needs to go to that place I know restaurants have insects but not in broad day on the counter in the customers view.
