Somehow, my husband and daughter had NEVER been to or even heard of Dave's Hot Chicken. WHAT?! Apparently, I have failed as both a mother and a wife because I love this place. My husband isn't much of a chicken person, and my daughter is a loyal KFC girl. I told them Dave's blows KFC out of the water and proceeded to hype it up the whoooole drive there. At some point, I started getting nervous that I'd talked it up so much there was no possible way it could live up to my promises. It did. We ordered our food and each got one of the fun drinks. My daughter was cracking up watching Pop Rocks literally fly out of hers. We found traces of pop rocks in her hair once we got to the hotel! Then came the mozzarella sticks. THE CHEESE PULLS! They were absolutely ridiculous--in the best possible way. Between the drinks, the cheese pulls, and everyone's reactions, lunch became its own form of entertainment. But my favorite part was watching my chicken snob husband's reaction to his sandwich. He took a few bites and announced that it was his favorite chicken sandwich he'd had to date. Not only did Dave's live up to all my hype, HE was the one who insisted we had to come back again before heading home from our trip. My daughter and I happily agreed. The restaurant and bathrooms were also absolutely spotless, which is always something I notice and appreciate. For fast food, Dave's Hot Chicken is top tier. I love Dave's for chicken the same way I love In-N-Out for burgers. If there's one anywhere near us on a road trip, we're stopping.

However, last time I ate there, the waiter messed up my order, when I asked for vegan cheese instead of regular on my sandwich, he gave me a slice of vegan cheese on my plate. I had orginally said I wanted t he cheesesteak, but then I corrected myself and said, I meant the turkey melt. I ended up with the cheesesteak, but I didn't say anything because I felt bad as I had originally messed up the order. Anyway, the cheesesteak didn't come with any cheese, so when I asked him for it, he brought me a slice of cheese on the side of my plate. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the cheese be in the sandwich? We also were sat outside on the patio, which was fine, but chilly. When I asked if they could turn on the fireplace, they said it doesn't work. Why do you have a fireplace outside if it doesn't work? Anyway, our service was lackluster. The food was still pretty good, but my French fries were awful.
