Pulled Chicken Nachos
Ashley M.

My husband and I were staying at The Lodge at Spruce Peak for the long weekend. This was our 3rd visit at the resort and 2nd time trying Hourglass. We had a busy day and just wanted to stay in the resort for the night. We also had a big lunch early in the day so wanted just a snack and a few drinks. We headed for Lounge and asked if there were any tables available. While their weren't any tables there were many seats available at the bar! The bartender was very friendly and we were given a drink and food menu right away. I didn't see any drinks that stuck out to me, so I decided to stick with the maple lemonade. It was SO good, I had 2! My husband had a cider on tap and he also enjoyed it. All of the items on the food menu sounded really great and it was hard to decide! I wish we had enough room to enjoy a full dinner! We decided on the pulled chicken nachos and then figured we would get a dessert to split. The nachos were delicious and portioned very well! It was a larger portion which came out on a tray right out of the oven. They were so good we finished the entire thing. I could not pass up on dessert and again, everything sounded yummy! My husband is a big creme brûlée fan so we chose the chocolate creme brûlée. The presentation was beautiful, and it tasted wonderful! We finished the whole thing! If you are staying at The lodge I highly suggest staying in for a night and eating at Hourglass, or even getting a drink prior to your dinner. I'm not sure why Solstice has so many negative reviews but the food at Hourglass seems to come from the kitchen of Solstice, and it was very tasty and presentable. Definitely a must try in Stowe especially if staying at the lodge!

Raining hard and unseasonably warm so we came in to eat instead of skiing on icy slopes (they couldn't make snow due to all the rain according to snow patrol).. Lots of fireplaces and a warm inviting decor. Servers were friendly. Lots of high chairs - would have preferred sofas / comfy chairs but that's minor... My daughter had a marguerita pizza that was a bit oily but she liked it nevertheless. No leftovers despite her not being hungry. I had the lodge burger with winter greens. It has really good beef and was cooked exactly as I had asked for. The winter greens had cranberries and seeds, and was really flavourful. Overall, a good experience and reasonably priced. Would go back.

Fondue was amazing-the best fondue I've ever had...I got the tomato soup and my dad got chili...both were great but the tomato soup wasn't filling enough-the chili on the other hand, def was.

Great local stuff

Nice bar menu, less pricey than the sit down restaurant, good service, nice decor.

Wings and nachos are good. Not a huge beer selection. Good cocktails but everything is expensive.

The food was all farm to table, and you could tell that everything came by hand. I loved the food that I had there. The downside is that the food took extremely long to come, and service was terribly slow as well.

The fact that the story was true and that this famous singing family settled in Stowe, VT because it reminded them of their homeland, well, it's been a long-time dream of mine to visit the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe and feel the connection in person. And so I did... in July 2025, some SIXTY years after seeing the Sound of Music. We actually didn't stay here, which seems kind of odd considering what a fan I am. Now that I know how much there is to do in Stowe... and at the lodge itself, perhaps if we come back with plans to stay longer, I would stay here. The Von Trapp Family Lodge has so much to offer a person... whether one stays here or not. These are some of the activities: 1. Hiking 2. Mountain biking 3. Skiing / Cross-country skiing 4. Horse-drawn carriage rides 5. Sleigh Rides 6. Disc golf 7. Yoga / Massage 8. Bicycle rentals 9. Tennis 10. Swimming 11. Rock Climbing Wall 12. Indoor arts / crafts / culinary classes 13. Wine and/or beer tastings 14. Choice of 4 restaurants We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the lodge and grounds and learning more about the family and the history behind the lodge. Since this (ironically) my 1700th review, it's fitting that such a special place falls on a noteworthy review number.

Very Disappointing Experience - Would Not Return…read more Our first night at the Stone Hill Inn in Stowe was fine. The room was clean, well-appointed, and we had no issues initially. However, the experience declined quickly. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The omelet was bland, and the oatmeal felt like an afterthought -- disappointing given that breakfast is part of what you're paying for at an inn like this. The second night was where things truly went wrong. There was no hot water. We specifically booked this inn for the jacuzzi tub after a long hike, which was the main reason for choosing this property. Instead, we had to check hourly to see if hot water returned, never did, and ultimately went to bed dirty from hiking with no ability to shower. The following morning, the situation escalated unnecessarily. The innkeeper confronted me and aggressively asked me to step into the kitchen, accusing us of breaking a toilet and shattering porcelain on the ground. I was shocked and told him I had no idea what he was referring to because we did not damage anything. I asked for a moment to understand what he was talking about and was told, angrily, that I had "one minute." I declined breakfast that morning -- which was unfortunate since that's one of the supposed highlights of staying here -- and asked if he would like to inspect the room before we left. He refused. I even offered for him to look at the bathroom to see how it would have been impossible for us to damage the toilet, and again he declined. Importantly, we had tipped the innkeeper who cleaned the room, who reportedly found the alleged damage and cleaned it up -- yet noted nothing to us and showed no concern at the time. The belligerent and accusatory behavior of the innkeeper completely overshadowed any positives from the stay. This is not how paying guests -- especially those booking for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, or special occasion -- should ever be treated. We will never return, and I strongly caution anyone considering this inn, particularly if you are looking for a peaceful, romantic experience.

We had also wanted to rewnew our vows and hoped to use a room in the Inn. We knew there would be an added fee (and would have gladly paid) for the use of the room but never expected the unprofessional behavior from the owners! They wanted to plan the event or we had to have it elsewhere. Not considering the fact that our anniv is in the winter, "why not have it outside". ‍ In our talks and emails I was reminded upmteen times "we are a business". (duh)! When I cancelled our res (5 mos out) they wanted to fine us. And called our officiant and yelled at her! Someone needs to teach them Hospitality 101. To be fair, we never ended up staying there. The lack of their knowledge of what a Guest is, kept us away.
