Very Disappointing Experience - Would Not Return Our first night at the Stone Hill Inn in Stowe was fine. The room was clean, well-appointed, and we had no issues initially. However, the experience declined quickly. Breakfast was mediocre at best. The omelet was bland, and the oatmeal felt like an afterthought -- disappointing given that breakfast is part of what you're paying for at an inn like this. The second night was where things truly went wrong. There was no hot water. We specifically booked this inn for the jacuzzi tub after a long hike, which was the main reason for choosing this property. Instead, we had to check hourly to see if hot water returned, never did, and ultimately went to bed dirty from hiking with no ability to shower. The following morning, the situation escalated unnecessarily. The innkeeper confronted me and aggressively asked me to step into the kitchen, accusing us of breaking a toilet and shattering porcelain on the ground. I was shocked and told him I had no idea what he was referring to because we did not damage anything. I asked for a moment to understand what he was talking about and was told, angrily, that I had "one minute." I declined breakfast that morning -- which was unfortunate since that's one of the supposed highlights of staying here -- and asked if he would like to inspect the room before we left. He refused. I even offered for him to look at the bathroom to see how it would have been impossible for us to damage the toilet, and again he declined. Importantly, we had tipped the innkeeper who cleaned the room, who reportedly found the alleged damage and cleaned it up -- yet noted nothing to us and showed no concern at the time. The belligerent and accusatory behavior of the innkeeper completely overshadowed any positives from the stay. This is not how paying guests -- especially those booking for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, or special occasion -- should ever be treated. We will never return, and I strongly caution anyone considering this inn, particularly if you are looking for a peaceful, romantic experience. read more

We were planning a trip to Stowe for our 45th anniversary in March, as we had honeymooned there. We found Stone Hill and made the res. We had also wanted to rewnew our vows and hoped to use a room in the Inn. We knew there would be an added fee (and would have gladly paid) for the use of the room but never expected the unprofessional behavior from the owners! They wanted to plan the event or we had to have it elsewhere. Not considering the fact that our anniv is in the winter, "why not have it outside". ‍ In our talks and emails I was reminded upmteen times "we are a business". (duh)! When I cancelled our res (5 mos out) they wanted to fine us. And called our officiant and yelled at her! Someone needs to teach them Hospitality 101. To be fair, we never ended up staying there. Well we LOVED our stay here!!! This is a beautiful inn, the property was quiet and lovely, trails to walk in the woods, breakfast was delicious, the bed was super cozy and we had everything we needed. My husband and I agree that one of our favorite parts of our trip were Todd and Kristie, the owners of the inn. They were incredibly kind, helpful, ready to serve and just lovely people all around. It was pretty easy to relax there. Todd made sure my fireplace was working in our room. Kristie had the best ideas for day stuff and we did everything she told us to do I loved having fresh baked cookies in the afternoon with my decaf coffee! Just little details were all around us. Truly the best pancakes we've ever eaten! Fresh fruit and amazing muffins each morning and realllyyyy goooodddd coffee We are so thankful for our time there. Hallelujah! We were saved! No, not by the Lord, but by Kristi and Todd! We were truly in a bind. We had rented a cabin in Stowe that turned out to be uninhabitable. We called many alternate places to stay, but the choices were slim since there was a big lacrosse festival in town (that we were attending!) Normally Stone Hill Inn caters exclusively to couples for romantic getaways. But Todd and Kristi heard our plight and graciously allowed us to stay at their gorgeous inn with our children. We are so grateful and had such a wonderful stay! Stone Hill Inn is handsome and immaculate, yet still comfortable. We truly felt at home in the sprawling house. Upon entering there is a little kitchen where there is always homemade baked goods and beverages. You can lounge in the living area. There is also a recreation room with a pool table, books (including many travel books), and large television with many DVD's to choose from. I used the guest laundry almost daily (yes, it was truly like home in that respect!) Detergent and fabric softener were provided. The nine guest rooms are all very spacious. Each room's decor varies but they are all nicely done. You can view all of them in the Inn's website. Each room has king size beds and a fireplace between the bedroom and bathroom. Each bathroom has a huge jacuzzi tub big enough for two. Stone Hill Inn thinks of little touches like candles by the tub. However,they don't forget the modern conveniences like providing the strongest shower I have ever experienced and fine bath products. The grounds are also stunning. If it is summer, make sure to spend some time just enjoying the quiet, lovely scenery. There are chairs, a gazebo, swings, and and a hammock outside. Take a book or a glass of wine and just enjoy the quiet outdoors. Breakfast is served daily in the sunny, cheery dining room. There is always fruit and baked goods when you enter. Although there is primarily one hot entree special, you can order basics like eggs. We always ordered the breakfast entrees (stuffed French Toast, Benedicts, omelets), and loved them. The baked goods were always delectable. Stone Hill Inn is such a lovely place but what really makes this place special is the owners, Todd and Kristi, as well as Tony, who has worked there for many years. Although Todd and Kristi have not owned it for long, you can tell they are putting their heart and soul into the place. Tony is also so friendly and helpful. They will be happy to give you suggestions about the area or do anything to make you feel more comfortable. Make sure to get a copy of the local hiking trails and waterfalls. Also, be sure to chat with Todd and Kristi about their story. It is proof that you can really make your own dreams come true! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at this charming luxurious B&B with numerous extras & a perfect location for exploring the area. The 10-tier waterfall floral garden will relieve any stress as you listen to the cascading water while sipping on a local brew or a fine wine. The landscaping will transport you to a magical land. Our itinerary kept us rather busy during our brief visit, but there are plenty of activities on this 9-acre site such as hiking, swings, hammock, fire pit, game/movie room, & two toboggan runs for a winter diversion. If you are headed to Stowe, VT for vacation, a getaway, leaf peeping, or skiing, then book Stone Hill Inn, nothing else compares in Stowe. Todd & Kristie are amazing friendly hosts (and Tony), who go to great lengths to exceed your expectations during your stay. We came here to tie the knot and wanted to have everything taken care of. Kristie and Todd got our details and took care of the rest! We were greeted and given a tour of the Inn, the game room, and the grounds. The place is beautiful and so comfortable. It has everything you need, a kitchenette, laundry area, and little outdoor areas accessible right from your room. We were wed at the top of the falls, and started our new life together in the most intimate setting imaginable! The Stone Hill Inn far passed our expectations for our honeymoon. We knew they were topnotch (168 4+starred reviews on TripAdvisor). But we still didn't know what to expect. Well let me tell you, if you are looking for a relaxing yet luxurious Bed and Breakfast in Vermont, travel to Stowe. The Stone Hill Inn will not disappoint you! At check-in we are greeted by the innkeepers Debbie and Dana. They are the sweetest people ever! Debbie gives us a tour of the Inn. They have a pool table, a few small tables with checkers, and other board games. All guest rooms come with a gas powered fireplace and jacuzzi tub. It was fantastic. The breakfasts were not your typical cereal or toast type of breakfasts. Our first morning we had a choice of an omelet with sun-dried tomatoes, basil, and cream cheese, or a waffle with whipped cream and strawberries. Both came with homefries, and bacon. All I have to say is WOW!!! We would stuff ourselves every morning full of the yumminess served and not be able to eat until dinner time. By the second morning Debbie knew I preferred coffee were my husband preferred Earl Grey Tea. And she also remembered that he likes ketchup with his home fries. Her husband is a chef and he is the one that does all the breakfasts. One evening we were talking with Debbie about our daughter, and she asked us what brought us to Vermont. We told her it was our honeymoon, and she seemed upset that she didn't know that earlier. We told her it wasn't a big deal, and that we never mentioned it when we made our reservation. Well when we returned to our room after a fierce game of checkers, she left us a gift... a box of chocolates and a photo album that says Stone Hill Inn on the front. It was so sweet of her to do that. It was totally unexpected, and so thoughtful. They do have some tips to follow while there. All after tastefully displayed in frames on the walls. For instance, because the innkeepers live there, they as that you don't play pool in the evening from 11pm to 9 am. The tips are more of common sense reminders. Our stay at the Stone Hill Inn is something neither one of us will ever forget. We were upset to leave such a wonderful place. Debbie and Dana make you feel at right at home here. Oh Good Ghu this was good. Adult-only, utterly tranquil. Champagne on tap, followed by an in-room two-person jacuzzi... ok, this is a family site :). In all seriousness, one of the very few places that exceeds Disney in terms of attention to detail and uncompromising focus on quality. We had several moments where the thought put into small details surprised and delighted; really just a great place to retreat. It is *not* cheap. On our recent week's VT break, this was the most expensive place that we stayed; it may also have been the best value, because it's in a different league from even other 'luxury' inns. I hate writing hagiographic reviews, but here there's little alternative - even the small guest kitchen was perfect to keep beer cold, recharge icepacks and nibble a cookie; the rooms have beautiful garden views, excellent beds, and a delightful breakfast in the morning. Kristie and Todd are amazing people, a true representation of hospitality. Kristi was wonderful. We decided to stop in Stowe at the last minute and they were nice enough to let us have a room for one night. The house is beautiful with lovely grounds and a sitting area. There is also a nice game room/etc. The inn has a guest kitchenette with cold water, coffee and cookies. The rooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms are huge! Breakfast was wonderful and everyone was so friendly. They are close to everything, town and the mountain. I would highly recommend a stay here if you are in the area. read more

There are so many words that come to mind when I remember the Stone Hill Inn...classy, romantic, beautiful, roomy, love and yummy just to name a few. We called and spoke to the owner, Todd who was sooo helpful in accommodating us. We had to leave a cabin that we rented in Morrisville due to many reasons and that is when the Stone Hill Inn saved us. We checked in late in the day to one of the classiest B&Bs that I've ever stayed in. There were hot chocolate chip cookies waiting for us and a bowl of taffy available for the daily drive-by. The rooms are big, they have a giant King-sized poster bed, a Jacuzzi tub for 2, a shower with the highest water pressure I've ever experienced and a nice, romantic fireplace. They use the highest quality sheets, pillows and blankets. When you walk around the grounds, you will see a nice cabana, cornhole game, swings, chairs to relax in, a pond to fish in and even a BBQ is available (I think) if needed. They offer a nighttime snack, unlimited bottles of water, cans of soda and I asked for ice tea and they always had some in the fridge waiting for me. They had a movie room (with 100s of different DVDs to select from) and a pool table which we took advantage of. I really enjoyed my stay here and I can't wait to come back to Stowe and the Stone Hill Inn. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a relaxing & romantic B&B stay at. read more

My girlfriend took me here for a surprise getaway for my birthday weekend from NYC. I thought we were were heading to Montreal but when we stopped off at the Stone Hill Inn, I was like awesome a B&B! The thing about this B&B though is that George and his crew are at the top of their game. we were pampered above and beyond anything we have ever been before. The game room was so much fun, the hot tub, fireplace in the bedroom, and the breakfasts were all really way above average too. Bread pudding was out of this world. My husband and I got married here on August 2, 2015 and I have to say we absolutely fell in love the minute we got there. We had a huge wedding planned and let's just say things got too stressful for us. We had our family members with us and its was surprisingly the best I could have imagined. George and Linda were just fantastic. They made you feel so comfortable during your stay and they made sure we had everything we needed. My wedding day was everything I ever wanted and more. Wicked awesome. While planning a weekend getaway for my wife and I this Inn came up on several numerous sites for romantic inns in Vermont. Normally I prefer hotels but I wanted this trip to be a little more romantic and personal. I'm so glad I made that decision, Stone Hill Inn is amazing. The room was incredibly comfortable, the furniture felt like something I might actually own instead of being the more typical bargain bulk purchase you'd find at a chain Hotel. The two-sided fireplace and jacuzzi were also an amazing addition. The bathroom was crazy spacious. I mean it's not like I'm throwing bathroom parties but I appreciate having a bit of room to maneuver. George and Linda (owners) are amazing. When I told Linda we were first timers she gave us a personal tour of the Inn and our room. We met George walking the grounds around the Inn later that afternoon and a nice chat about the inn. The next morning they both worked to provide an amazing (complementary) breakfast. The food was fresh, well cooked, and delicious. Orange pancakes = all the awesome. When I mentioned to George that I wasn't sure where to go for our Stowe Mountain zipline tour he called their concierge for us and got clear directions. I would have done the legwork when I finished breakfast but he was happy to help. Way above and beyond. As far as I'm concerned this is the only place I'll stay when I'm in Vermont, even if I have to drive another 3 hours to get to my destination. Speaking of driving, Stone Hill Inn is minutes from what Stowe has to offer. It's a 10 minute drive to Stowe Mountain Resort, a 6-8 minute drive to several well rated restaurants, and a 5 minute drive to several trails and bike rental shops. So convenient. read more

Picturesque walks of endless wooded pathways, waterfalls, and secluded gardens with seating areas. The room (Fiddlehead) was immaculately clean, the bedding was super luxurious. We were able to enjoy the 2-way fireplace from the main room and in the other room from the hot tub. The main dining room was also amazing with super romantic views through large windows; great food too. The owners and staff were all very pleasant and attentive. Local beer and cider on tap. Warm cookies and popcorn at night! A game room for a quiet puzzle or game of pool. In-room massages for reasonable prices. We saw lots of wildlife, my favorite was the deer family. Rooms are very large with huge comfy beds and lots of privacy! All the small touches really make a difference. A romantic get away in the middle of an adventurer's paradise. My wife and I stayed at the Stone Hill Inn as part of a birding and hiking trip. Linda and George the inn keepers were so nice and very eager to care of all our needs throughout our stay. The breakfasts were fine dining quality, with ultra-fresh ingredients. My wife said one of the breakfasts was "the best she ever had" and we are foodies so that's saying a lot! The room was amazing with a fireplace that opened up on two sides (bedroom and bath). We recommend the Fiddlehead Room - it's worth reserving if it is available! The grounds were pristine and we saw lots of wildlife (several deer at the bottom of the hill, a cute woodchuck and lots of migratory warblers and humming birds). There is also a game room with a very nice pool table, high top tables and stools, and music which you can control. Stone Hill Inn is perfect for any special occasion or long weekend away. Romantic & luxurious Gem. Linda and George (owners) are unbelievably gracious hosts. The breakfasts were delicious, filling and varied. The grounds beautiful and we could listen to the waterfall from our room. Fireplaces everywhere and a double jacuzzi tub. It just doesn't get any better than this. Seriously . . . the "Best". We are vey experienced "B&B-ers" and Stone Hill Inn was memorable. The innkeepers (George and Linda) were terrific. Clearly, they take immense pride in the Inn and it shows in everything about it. The rooms and common areas were tastefully (understatement) decorated and immediately made us feel "at home", but soooo much better. The food was delicious and the landscaping was both beautiful and inviting for a stroll. Needless to say, the entire Inn was immaculately clean. Having breakfast in the dining room was an experience in itself, as the room was gorgeous (look at their website). The combination of the Inn's physical aspects coupled with George and Linda's sincerity is a hard to beat. There's so much more, but pretty sure you get the idea. This is a fantastic B&B. We visited Stowe for a getaway mini winter vacation and booked two nights at the Stone Hill Inn and it was absolutely wonderful. George and Linda are fantastic hosts and went above and beyond our expectations. The Inn is beautiful and sets up on a hill not far off the mountain Road but feels very secluded and private. There was about a foot of snow on the ground when we arrived and it was just what we were hoping for. The room was great with a very comfy bed a romantic two sided fireplace between the bedroom and jacuzzi bath. The breakfast room was so light and inviting and the two breakfasts we enjoyed were just awesome. George made us dinner reservations as well as a reservations for an in room massage for my wife and our sleigh ride. The massage was first rate and the recommended dinner reservation was outstanding. The snow shoes provided at the Inn gave an opportunity for a new experience trekking around the woods on the Inn grounds. Turns out that George and Linda had lived in Wyomissing PA not far from our home so we had tons to talk about. Tony, the helper was just great. The Inn is located perfectly as it is secluded but close to the Stowe Mtn ski area and the village. I would definitely come here again winter, fall or summer. read more

From start to finish a wonderful stay! The Inn was beautiful, inside and out; located on a hill just outside of town and hidden from the road. We stayed in the Mansfield Suite, for extended stays. The suite is secluded above the garage with a separate entrance. The rooms were large and comfortable with a full kitchen and washer/dryer. The full size refrigerator was stocked with water, sodas, and juices. The bathroom was large with separate sinks and a large shower. The front room housed a fireplace and smart TV. The breakfast room was lovely with a fireplace and surrounded in windows looking out onto the beautiful grounds. Breakfast was different each day made to order by Linda...she makes all the the food served there to include the granola! If you are offered the broccoli casserole...Order it! The pantry was open 24/7 with a full assortment of drinks and a variety of snacks. Afternoon snacks were lovey and freshly made. The hosts, George and Linda, are so lovely...friendly, helpful but not overtly so. They helped us with reservations for dinners and were sharing with local information.
