Perfectly located on Main Street and walking distance to many restaurants. We stayed in the Parlor suite for 3 nights. The suite is located on the first floor right next to the main entrance door. Pros: large room with propane fireplace. Kitchenette w hot plate, pans, plates, glasses and small refrigerator. Bed is very comfy. Small table w chairs for dining. Two comfy swivel chairs to relax. Very clean. 20%discount at the Butlers Pantry. Parking in back of house. Locker for skis. Cons: very loud room as they allow the patrons for the restaurant to use the main entrance so people line up outside your door early and talk very loud. They have two other restaurant entrances and the owners really should make the patrons use that entrance vs the main entrance. So plan on it being loud from 0730 AM to after 1200pm. Yelp has a 20% discount if you check in on the app for 2 nights or more. The coupon is outdated and the owners never responded to my inquiry. The coupon should be taken down as I didn't see how it could be redeemed anyway since you must pay in full 14 days prior to your stay and the hotel is self check in. The Butler House is a great place to stay if you are visiting Stowe and want to stay close to the center of town. There are guest rooms of varying sizes to choose from and all are a good value for the price. The breakfast restaurant downstairs, Butler's Pantry, is among the best if not the best breakfast spot in Vermont. And given they use Yelp Waitlist, you can get on the waitlist and wait comfortably in your room and then walk downstairs once you're ready to be seated. Butler House stands out from other places you could stay because of the people you interact with while staying there. On this visit, i was having an issue with the TV just as the Super Bowl was starting. The owner, Paul, left his home, drove over and personally fix it for me. A guy leaving to do anything during the Super Bowl for anyone is unheard of :) Also, our housekeeper Vera was amazing. She kept the room immaculately clean and she's super helpful and personable to interact with. My 3 year old still talks about her. Highly recommended. read more

Very happy with the location and meal. It's nice being in the middle town allowing for walks after eating. Staying made me feel like I was really in Vermont. The maple sausage were fully cook & moist. The blue pancakes were excellent you could actually taste the berries, which were large and fresh. The Eggs Benedict were worth the order. We stayed in Max's Roost and it was great having a one bed room apartment in the middle of downtown. Plenty of space to be comfortable and even a kitchen if you wanted that available. We loved the proximity to all the restaurants and the check in and check out process was easy and quick. Overall a great stay. read more

Wow, why would you stay anywhere else? Our apartment (Max's Roost #4) was big, clean and comfortable, better than a hotel room in every way. Plus, it's right in the heart of town and has a restaurant downstairs and a coffee shop next door. On the downside... There's a restaurant downstairs ... so you can hear repetitive bass bustling through the floors until they close. Otherwise though, yeah, super happy we picked this place to stay! read more

LOVE this place. My fiancé and I (along with another couple) stayed in rooms #7 aka "the lounge" and #9 aka "the parlor". Both are on the ground floor and overall both were a lovely space. The decor is so kitschy and original. This building is in the middle of town so you can certainly walk to wherever you'd like to go that's on the main strip. A short drive away there are restaurants on another strip (mountain road) which actually leads to Stowe mountain. We arrived around 515 pm on a Wednesday and there were no staff to welcome us. There is a pin board as soon as you walk in the front door with your name and room # only. The key to your room is waiting for you inside your unlocked room once you find it yourself. This is sketchy to me because we're from NY and call me crazy but anyone can be in your open room waiting for you! We asked about checkout while eating breakfast. This establishment closely resembles rooms in a house rather than a hotel. Would highly recommend staying on the upper floors as you can definitely hear your neighbors above you... thin ceilings. Bring your own toiletries because all that's provided are two tiny bars of soap that can fit within your palm. However, we both had little kitchenettes with a Keurig machine and all the fixins. The butler house has a restaurant that's amazing for breakfast. The owners and workers are so welcoming and kind. We would definitely stay again! Ideally I'd like to leave 4.5 stars but that is not an option. read more

I found the Butler House on VRBO. I was traveling by myself and it seemed to fit my needs. Communicating with the owner was easy and he was always timely in his responses to me. The location is right on the main street of Stowe. I loved it. I was able to walk all through town. In addition, the recreation path is right across the street and was perfect for afternoon runs. The room itself was very nicely decorated and clean. Everything I wanted was there in the room. The kitchen was stocked with K cups for the Keurig and had all the dishes I needed, which included wine glasses and wine opener. My room was right above the outside patio of the restaurant. One of the nights the volume on the patio was noticeable, but overall, it was hard to tell there was a restaurant below me. I would definitely stay here again when back in Stowe. read more

A unique place to stay in the heart of the Stowe Village. Very clean and neat, appears to be converted apartments. Our room was large with a full kitchen, living area and separate bedroom. The couch would make into a bed and is in front a good size TV with good cable. Fast Internet too and doesn't need to be logged into every time you want it. We were there for biking and had no problem with bike storage. There is also a ski room with locked storage for winter gear. Easy parking in the back. Lots of places to eat in Stowe but our favorite was the Mexican Mi Casa downstairs and the coffee shop next door the Black Cap Cafe. read more

If you're anywhere near Stowe and need a great place to stay, go here. It's located right downtown in Stowe and you can walk to many things - and are a quick ride down the street from skiing. (And the Ben & Jerry's factory...) Paul is the owner and bought it a few years ago - did a big renovation and boy does it show. The whole place is clean, smells new and feels like you're staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. I was in the Butler Hideaway (#6) and it was huge. You don't need to see anyone when you check in, just walk up and find your information waiting for you. Parking is easy out back. Prices are reasonable. And Paul is one super nice guy and knows how to run a place like this. Our last day we had made-to-order breakfast and it was unreal! I'll absolutely be back. read more

I went through the website, but struggled to get a good picture of which rooms were available, which ones would work for us, and how much each would cost (there's something in there about WD and WE (?winter vs summer? Washer Dryer and... not?, which changed the rates for a single suite). So I reached out giving information about how many we would be, and the number of kids, and dates of travel, and all that, and asked them what was still available. I also asked if the bride would be staying there since I wanted to be close by if possible for wedding prep and all that. They told me to look at the website. That's all they said. So I responded and spelled out the specific questions that one traveling with children might have: are any suites particularly good or bad for children, which ones have the right spacing for having a crib in the bedroom, which rooms have a separate bedroom that can be closed off, etc. And I reiterated the question about the bride. I guess I was just looking for something like, "Hi, the XYZ room would be perfect for you! It's still available for those nights at a rate of $200/night. If you're looking for a less expensive option, the ABC room would probably do, though the curtained French doors do let some of the light in to the closed off bedroom." If they didn't want to respond about the bride staying there, that's fine! I get not sharing information about other guests. But my initial email wasn't unreasonable, and even my second email was pretty fair for an preliminary note to a hotel / inn. They responded: "Don't think it would be a good fit for you and we do not give out information about our guest. Kind regards". Literally, that's it. I'm not going to be a good fit because I have questions after you didn't respond with any information? Or because I have kids? Or what? When I read that response, it just sounded exactly what I've heard snooty New Englanders to be like. How do they run a business like this?? read more

What can I say other than I LOVED my stay at the Butler House last week? I spent the week working remotely from "The Lounge," a beautiful, super comfy newer room facing Main Street, with great cell phone reception which was ideal for work-related calls. Upon arriving, I immediately found that I had easy, immediate walking access to virtually all of the great things Stowe has to offer. Within one or two blocks you'll find: a gorgeous, paved walking/biking trail, great coffee shops, craft beer bars/restaurants and craft beer shops, fine dining options, shopping, etc. During the day the Main Street can get a little busy/loud, but that's the price you pay for having such convenient access to everything. At night, the town becomes super quiet and you'll sleep like a baby. It really doesn't get much better if what you're looking for is a mix of R+R, access to outdoor activities, and nearby shopping and dining all rolled into one place. Make sure to check out the Butler Pantry, which is attached to the Butler House, and features a delicious breakfast menu (the omelets and pancakes were my favorite)! read more

The nine of us stayed in rooms 2, 3 and 5 for an unforgettable weekend in Stowe. The rooms are beautiful, super comfortable and well stocked. (The kitchen in #2 had everything we could possibly think of). All of the rooms were beautifully decorated and designed. The kids loved the loft in #5. I trust that all the rooms are just as lovely. The location is ideal - right on the start of the bike path. We biked and walked everywhere, and had the best time. We would stay here again and again. Can't wait to go back. read more

Unique, indeed! Not a hotel - not a B&B. More like an extended stay! Really a great, affordable place to stay in Stowe. Modern and clean - fabulous location! Admittedly, check-in and check-out is a bit unusual - we picked our keys up from the restaurant below - but the space is perfect for a home-base while in Vermont. The noise from the restaurant below was only an issue on Friday night (we stayed Friday & Saturday night), but we managed to sleep anyway. Kitchenette is well stocked with the basics. We stayed in Room 5 with the loft bed, and I was initially concerned that it would not be comfortable for my 6'2 husband and I to share - definitely wrong. The bed was wonderful, the ladder sturdy. Plus, the couch is incredibly comfortable - and we didn't even try the Tempurpedic pull-out bed. We would recommend this place to any of our friends visiting the area! read more

If you are like me and rather not talk to hotel staff if you don't have to, than this place is perfect for you! We walked in to a welcome sign, with my name and the room number. We got "Sarah's Room" which I found a sweet deal for on hotels.com . We went to our room and walked in. Inside we found our room key and parking pass. It was a very clean room. I was impressed with the cute "touches" they put in the room. Already filtered water in the fridge, glass mugs in the freezer and keurigs of various coffees and hot chocolate for you there at no cost. They even have a little book for you to sign and share your experience for future guests to read. Another plus is that The Butler House is in the greatest location on Main St. In the heart of town. You can walk to lots of restaurants and bars and have easy access to rt 108 mountain road. Yet it was quiet in the room and cozy with the fireplace and comfy mattress and seating. I will most definitely be back here! No doubt. read more

I made a reservation at Butler House since I had stayed there previously and enjoyed the room. They cancelled my reservation saying it was at my request. When I asked why they had cancelled it they said it was because I had asked for a chemical and feather free room. I did not request a cancellation and would not have done so if they had consulted me. In over 50 years of traveling on all 7 continents I have NEVER had anyone cancel a reservation without talking to me. I have NEVER had an innkeeper be as rude as these people were. I will never stay there again and as nice as the property is - these people don't deserve people to stay there. I am - as you probably are - very busy. To have someone cancel a reservation without even asking me if I wanted it cancelled is not considerate or professional. read more

The Butler House was a 5 star experience during our recent trip to Stowe! We are already planning our trip next year. We stayed for a night before heading up skiing. We choose Max's Roost which was all the comforts of homes! It was clean as well as spacious. There was even two chilled beer mugs in the freezer! This place is far less expensive than any inn, hotel, or B&B in the area. The "area" is Main St. in Stowe, so easy walking distance to everything downtown and quick access to Mountain Rd by car. We paid $120/night for the Murphy Loft over MLK weekend and are planning to go back over Memorial Day weekend when it is $99/night. The rooms are immaculately clean and modern, with private bathrooms and nice little amenities like flat screen TVss and Keurigs. Being right upstairs from Frida's is nice if you like to enjoy a few too many margaritas and some guacamole like we do. The downside is definitely the noise from the restaurant (which dies down at 11pm) and early rising skiers going in and out of their rooms. There's no front desk and you have to check in in the shop downstairs, which means there is no one manning the place at night or early in the morning. This isn't a problem if you like to come and go as you please and aren't worried about things like extra towels (there are plenty in the room) and housekeeping (you're on your own). Highly recommended for the budget-conscious traveler who doesn't want to sacrifice cleanliness and creature comforts! read more

Booked a last minute stay at the Butler House to escape the Boston snow this past weekend and get up to Stowe before checking into our other accommodations at Green Mountain Inn. Easy check in (we arrived very late) and well appointed room with kitchenette. Ski lockers in the locker room right outside the back door (so convenient and nice touch!!). We loved our room (butlers hideaway) so much that we were sad to leave for our other hotel previously booked for the weekend! Recently refurbished- the apartments were BEAUTIFUL! Would highly recommend to families, groups, and couples alike. Can't wait to go back and stay in the two bedroom suite (room 2!). Paul, the owner, showed us a few of the apartments the next am and they were all GREAT. Amazing location right in town with very easy access to The Mountain shuttle and Plate, a delicious fresh fare American restaurant. Can't wait to go back! read more

Love this place! It's a fully renovated historic home in the heart of town, across from a historic white church with steeple. The two-room suite is bigger than my last apartment. Downstairs is a kitchen with an island open to a cosy living room with fireplace. Upstairs are two comfy bedrooms and a nice sized bathroom. It was quiet and peaceful at night - the restaurant downstairs that a previous reviewer mentioned is no longer there. So much to do, with shops, restaurants, great coffee, and hiking all within walking distance. Paul was so nice and friendly and gave us great ideas on what to do and where to eat. The fully equipped kitchens were great so we could cook our own meals and save a lot of money so we could do a lot of various activities that Stowe has to offer. I loved our room at the Butler House. The beds and couches were plush and comfy, the decor was elegant and charming, the rooms were very sparkling and clean. The heating was adjustable and the fireplace had its own remote control. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, right down to a Brita pitcher in the fridge and a salad spinner! (We like to cook and have at least one quiet night in when we go skiing up in Stowe.) The owner, Paul, was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived late at night and he had everything ready for us so it was easy to get into our room and unwind. I loved the inn especially because of the location. It was small enough that we could have privacy and not have to deal with a super busy ski lodge, but any time we wanted to get out we could walk out the front door right onto the main street in Stowe, a block or two from all the shops and restaurants. It's also right across from a pretty walking path that runs along a beautiful river. The Mexican restaurant downstairs, Frida's, has excellent guacamole (they make it fresh in front of you) and yummy margaritas. There's also a cute toy and gift shop in the same building called Gizmo's. We had great weather for skiing on Stowe mountain. Hopefully we'll be back next ski season! read more

I came across the Butler House when researching hotels on Expedia. I did further research on Trip Advisor and Yelp and decided to give it a try due to the high marks. Boy was everyone right about this place! It perfectly compliments staying in downtown Stowe. Though it might not have the amenities a major hotel might have, it is within walking distance to everything downtown Stowe has to offer. Next door on one side is an excellent coffee shop. On the other side a very delicious ice cream parlor. Across the street there is a newly open bar with a retail store next door highlighting the best beers across the state. Downstairs they serve the best breakfast in town at the Butler's Pantry. We stayed in Max's Roost a one bedroom apartment and it was perfect for a family of two adults and two children. I met the owner Paul while checking in and you can tell by speaking with him and by also looking at the renovations inside that this inn is a labor of love for his family. We will most certainly be back to the Butler House in the near future! read more

This was our second visit to Stowe, our first time at Buler House. We WILL be back. As we proceeded toward Stowe from our home in upstate New York, all the while watching the bursting foliage increase around us, I joked with my husband that the combination of the foliage with Stowe Village and Butler House might result in "quaintness overload". And I was right. Upon arriving, we entered the first floor foyer and were greeted with beautiful, shiny wide plank pine floors and the beautiful carpeted front stairs. Up the stairs and to the right to unit one, the alcove unit. We found the unit to be more spacious than it appeared online, and it was warm and inviting and quaint, but also modern and hip! More shiny wide plank floors, brick fireplace with gas insert, comfy living room furniture, pleasing country colors, sleek stainless steel appliances, high quality kitchen cupboards and drawers, all of the kitchen essentials in the event you decide to stay in and cook. Keurig brewer with complimentary coffee/decaf coffee/cocoa was an appreciated added bonus. Bedding is superb, high thread count sheets and fluffy down pillows and comforter made it feel like we were sleeping in a cloud. Mattress was not too soft, not too firm. Heavy Pottery Barn quilt at the foot of the bed if you need more weight or warmth. Awesome lighted stand up shower with rain shower head, good water pressure and consistent temperature, nice shelving arrangement for shampoo, etc. Travel size toiletries and provided paper products made this more like a hotel than a vacation rental. Luggage rack in closet and alcove with hooks to the left of the bed made it easy to keep luggage neat and out of the way. Bed also has large drawers underneath all the way around for additional storage. Beautiful windows throughout make the unit bright and sunny and honeycomb blinds that can be pulled up from the bottom or down from the top offer the perfect combination of natural light and privacy. Window screens in the closet came in handy during our stay, as it was still warm enough to have the windows open and enjoy the fresh fall air. Did I mention the view?! Mountain foliage on three sides from the front windows and the beautifully simple Stowe Community Church steeple right across the street. Who wouldn't want to wake up and look out at that every morning? Location in the heart of the Village is perfect and recreation path steps away, across the street and behind the church.
