I got the scrambled eggs with bacon and orange juice. The eggs were cooked just the way I liked them and the hostess was more than accommodating even if I was late and had come back from an early morning nap, I mean yoga lesson. I would happily come here again for a little R&R if given the chance.

We were greeted by Erich and Caroline at the front and right then we knew we made a great choice. They are so warming and welcoming into their abode. This is like showing up to a relatives house and feeling right at home! We had this amazing large room and attached bathroom. A great big comfortable bed and an awesome view of the snowy mountains in front of our room. We were not disturbed in our rooms, it was so quiet we barely knew there was other visitors with us. Caroline and Erich have such a friendly, warming, giving personality. They offered so much to us. They gave us tips for local places around town and even offered to help with whatever we needed! All around it was probably the best stay I have had somewhere away from home in a while and For sure will book another stay!

We were so pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The house is even more beautiful and peaceful inside. The owners have gone through great lengths to preserve the house's Victorian decor. In fact, the owners are downright amazing. They are the actual inn keepers and one of them is a chef. He is the one that whips up the most delicious gourmet / organic and locally sustainable breakfasts each morning. Our room was enourmous (for a B&B), it had a large bedroom, a small living room, and it's own bathroom. Not all the rooms are the same size so you do need to ask for what you want upfront. As they say, 'the love is in the details," you really get a sense that the owners want to make sure their guest's experience is memorable. Every bathroom has local lavender and pine-scented toiletries (we literally 'smelled' like nature) that smelled delicious, and these aren't travel size, they are actual size so there is plenty to use. They also include maple candies, and lot's of tourist information on all the things to do around Vermont. At night, one of the owners is a classical piano player and he delights the guests with some tunes. But it's not distracting if you want to turn in early as we couldnt hear it from our room. We loved staying here and we highly recommend it to others so they may enjoy this gem too.

Yet, the whole reason to write a review is to give others a recommendation or a warning BEFORE they visit. There are things the innkeepers cannot control- the rough surroundings, the noise of traffic and barking dogs, etc. (we had it all) But, once you cross the threshold, that's on the innkeeper. The potential to make Maplecroft a little oasis in a run down area of Barre VT is there. But you can't host on potential. Here is why it doesn't hit the mark: the building is just so neglected and our room was filthy. The housekeeper needs a solid talking to. The filth in our room is not just that someone forgot to vacuum. It's stained carpets and soiled area rugs and caked on dirt and pubic hair and filth on chair rails in the bathroom area. The shower: hair on the walls and a horrible smell. On and on. The bed was comfortable but I was so preoccupied with the filth that I kept wondering when the last time was that someone had washed the blankets. They were faded and had an off smell. The towels were stained and dingy. Peeling paint, open walls with rot in the hallway, thick dust covered ceiling fan, dust covered almost everything. Ouf. All this for 200$/night. We were just so disappointed. This was an anniversary get away and we couldn't wait to get away... from the Elia Corti room at Maplecroft. We have stayed in many many MANY B&Bs over the years on remote islands to bustling tourist zones. We expect old inns to have doors that aren't plumb and funky floor plans. All part of the fun. But the caked on dirt and general filth was a big turn off. Our clothing carried that smell all the way to home. On the plus side: all of this is fixable with a basic carpet shampooer and bucket of hot soapy water and scrub brushes. Replace the towels and wash the windows. Low cost but high impact. Then get some repair work going on the crumbling walls that are cracked open and exposing rot. Your guests shouldn't be exposed to these things. Lots of neglected little things make for one BIG thing- a negative experience. We will not be returning.

Pretty much everything you want and need is here in a beautiful area of Vermont in the mountains not to far from the capital of Vermont (Montpellier) or Vermont's biggest city (Burlington) only a 45 minute drive thru the mountains. Great place to stay while in Vermont specially if you are coming here during the winter months for skiing. Big kitchen is also here but for use for private party's and weddings witch they also do a lot here. Rooms have mini fridge with silver wear and plates also a sink and some have a couch and table and a balcony with a view of the center garden area. It can get noisy if you choose the rooms closer to the entrance,early in the morning you can hear dump trucks and construction people, if you have money to spend stay in the other side with plenty of rooms up stairs and even your own private kitchen witch is mainly rented out to big family's or party's. My girlfriend and I arrived at about 7pm at night and were greeted at the front door by Rick, one of the owners. He assisted us in carrying our bags to our room and then gave us a nice tour of the place. This house was HUGEEEEE and has something to do for every person in the family. Rick first took us to their indoor swimming pool/hot tub. The pool and hot tub had covers on it to avoid the temperature of the water from dropping too far and from also getting too dirty. There was also a treadmill in there which we could use if we wanted. He then took us up their beautiful staircase to their movie theater. The theater was very nice and personal and he had a good selection of movies to choose from. They also had their own popcorn machine and candy to munch on while enjoying a movie. Then he showed us their dining hall where we were to have breakfast every morning and asked us what time we were planning on having breakfast. Then he wished us a good night and let us on our merry way. We went back to the room to wash up and get ourselves situated and my girlfriend could not stop talking about how nice our room was. We stayed in the Red Maple Suite and my gosh the room was amazing. We had a queen size bed, our own TV, our own bathroom, sink, mini fridge, microwave, balcony, table, couch, coffee pot and iron. That is one of the GREAT THINGS about the Maple House INN. Each room has its own bathroom with shower or tub along with a good sized bed and mini fridge/small kitchen. Each room also has its own personal temperature control. We were able to control the temperature of our room without affecting any of the other rooms. They even had HEATED FLOORS!!! The mini fridge had some small waters in it which we found to be very thoughtful and considerate of them to put them there for their guests. When we woke up the next morning, we went down to the dining hall and met with Rick and Lynn. They asked us what we wanted for breakfast, and us not being very picky eaters, told them to surprise us. Rick made some delicious french toast, served with orange juice, tea, a bowl of fruit, and of course, maple syrup. That was by far some of the best french toast I have ever had. Their two pets, Charlie (dog) and Opie (cat), were there also to greet us. They were some of the cutest and most behaved pets I had ever seen. Over the course of our 3 day stay, we were served eggs benedict (which was damn good), french toast, and a cream cheese filled french toast for breakfast. All came with a bowl of different fruit and choice of drink (juice, water, tea, coffee). We also watched a movie in the movie theater and Rick was kind enough to pop up some fresh popcorn. Rick told us that if we wanted to watch another movie at another time, then to just let him know and he would play it for us. We also used the hot tub and swimming pool every day. The cover was not much work to take off, simply crank and roll the pool cover off. The hot tub cover was easy to take off and replace. Rick and Lynn were some of the nicest people we had ever met and really felt welcome staying at their place. And a pack it up so well for you so you can totally eat it on your way up to the mountain. The absolute peak of this entire trip was the hot tub is at the northern lights lodge. Surprisingly it was rarely occupied we barely had to wait except for one time we may be waited 20 minutes for a group to leave because it's a pretty small hot tub and we were four people trying to go together The hot tub is also open from 8 AM to 10 PM great for a pre-post ski session. There is also a sauna and indoor pool and an outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was not open for the winter obviously. The rooms were spacious and cozy. Definitely looking forward to make a trip back. Oh, and the ski shuttle to Stowe resort is across the street

From the moment we arrived we felt welcome. The room was beautiful and so very comfortable. Deborah & Peter really engaged with us, took an interest and made time to discuss our plans and offer recommendations. Pretty quickly we felt as though we had a home away from home. We had everything we needed and the breakfast was splendid. We had our own private space, with everything we could need (including an amazing bathroom), but also had opportunity to meet with other guests which made the stay even more memorable. We already know we will be going back - like a number of regular guests Deborah & Peter have. They clearly love hosting guests, and it really shows in what they offer. We stayed for three nights over the weekend of the Mad River Marathon…read more We weren't running it (originally I was competing in a Highland Games at Sugarbush but it was cacelled) but had a great time with all those who were! When you first arrive Peter and Susan give you the tour of both your room and the house. That's when you meet Smoky and Snowball, their beautiful cats. The house and the gardens are expansive and welcoming, as are the hosts. There is a bar with beer and wine and Peter is happy to serve you Scothes and liqueurs from the Craich in the evenings. (Everything is added to your bill at the end so no need for cash.) We stayed in the Garden Room, with its own entrance. It was very comfortable and made up for us every day with a little tidbit of Vermont history laid on the pillows every night. It was quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was amazing! Susan is a superb cook and made a three course breakfast every morning that included dessert! You won't go hungry at West Hill! She even made up a huge carb load for the marathoners the night before and an early morning breakfast (5 am!) for the marathon runners. My husband took advantage of the breakfast so he could get off early on a hike. I waited until a civilized hour. The gardens are huge! They own the property on both sides of the road so there are multiple ponds, fountains, gazebos, chairs, and a comfy hammock! They even provided a fire pit and ingredients for S'mores. What fun! We spent one afternoon reading and napping in the gazebo in the upper garden. It was bliss. Pater and Susan are great innkeepers. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and so excited to share their home. We met some wonderful people and they encouraged conversation. It was like a family for those few days. TIPS: The cats do not go in the rooms, however if you are severely allergic you may not want to stay here. Definitely let them know if you have any food preferences or allergies--they are very knowledgeable and accommodating of dietary needs! They are not kidding when they say to let them know if you want reservations at a local restaurant--they will call and make them for you. I can't recommend them highly enough! We are definitely returning.

Conveniently located to Sugarbush but you don't even need to drive there…read more They now have a shuttle bus that stops at the front door of the B&B and takes you to the slopes. This house has 8 rooms....my favorite being the Garden Room but all are nice and comfy. Peter and Susan prepare breakfast for the guests and have warm cookies at the end of the day. They also now have a liquor license so no need to drive to et a drink. All in all this is a great place to stay when visiting Warren or Waitsfield.
