We stayed at the Brass Lantern Inn for our honeymoon In October. It was a cozy and quiet getaway, exactly what we were looking for! The owner was so kind and helpful when we needed anything. Great service and delicious food. We loved the breakfast and were always excited to come back from our day to find the afternoon snack waiting for us. The location is perfect. Just 5 minute drive from main street Stowe. We enjoyed the game room and spent most of our evenings there. We also appreciated the hot tub with the view of Mount Mansfield. The inn had a menu of assorted food and drinks to choose from, and the order process was seamless. You order these items on their website and it is delivered to you. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. We had the ability to log into our Netflix account on the tv. I also liked the burning stove in the room. Everything was perfect. My partner and I stayed at the Brass Lantern Inn for four nights and had a great experience. Host, Don, welcomed us and showed us around. For the first three nights, we stayed in the Madonna Peak room and the fourth night at the Pinnacle which was larger with a better view. All the rooms are either upstairs or downstairs a steep flight of stairs but we had no worries as our suitcases were carried to our rooms. We were treated every morning to a different delicious breakfast and a snack in the late afternoon. The beds are extremely comfortable and we spent time in the hot tub which was so relaxing. The host seems very uninterested in us; rushed our introduction to the place, sounding like he's said the same things hundreds of times, didn't ask where we're traveling from, what we're doing in the are, or offer any advice of fun things to do in the area. Breakfast has almost zero protein and consists of lots of sugar and simple carbs. Wifi is poor in our room and the traffic from the busy road the inn is directly on is not the most pleasant. I texted the host (as directed if we have any question), a response came over an hour later without answering my question that was a timely manner. I can say enough about how trilled I was with my stay at the Brass Lantern Inn. The host was so pleasant and always accommodating. We LOVED the Brass Lantern Inn! The cutest inn and the kindest owners. The breakfasts were amazing and were initially what drew me to the place. On top of that, the beds are incredibly comfortable and I slept like a rock, the grounds are gorgeous, and they have very thoughtful touches like chocolates, a water pitcher, and complimentary postcards in the rooms. We actually stayed in two different rooms during our visit, and only one had a fireplace and TV, but it wasn't a big deal to me, just noting for those who might care. 10/10 would stay here again in a heartbeat and can't wait to come back!! read more

George and Mary Ann are the ultimate hosts. Their Inn has a premier location looking out to the mountainscape. A picture window in the breakfast room brings daylight and the view straight to your table, along with a delicious hot breakfast. I stayed at the Brass Lantern Inn during the midst of Hurricane (Tropical Storm) Irene! Due to the storm, I arrived late after spending the day in the cold, wet rain moving my son into his college dorm. The owners, Mary Anne and George kept tabs on me to make sure I was safe. Due to the storm, I was sans hubby, who was home tending our storm damaged house. When I arrived, Mary Anne had saved me a small plate of goodies and made me hot tea! They helped me take my bag up to my room and made sure I was all let for the evening. Once settled, I was grateful for the wireless Internet connection that allowed me to keep tabs on the storm damage in Rhode Island! While the wind howled outside, the Inn remained warm and cozy! Our room (Spruce Peak) was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed my soak in the whirlpool tub after spending a day in the cold, blowing rain! The next morning, I had a hot and delicious breakfast in the bright and sunny dining room, caught up on the news in the sitting room and just relaxed. After a nice visit with Mary Anne and George, I was able to travel home well fed and relaxed! I will certainly return for another visit, this time with my hubby to enjoy a romantic night at the Inn! read more

We spent the last Valentines Day weekend, which also happened to be a long weekend, at this Inn. The Inn did not have a minimum 3 nights required policy for long weekends unlike some other b&bs had in Vermont, which was one of the major factors for us to pick this one. It is indeed right off of route 100 as mentioned in the previous review. it did not bother us much though. The breakfast was nothing extra ordinary but there was nothing to complain about. Loved the view of the snow meadow from the breakfast windows. They have TV only in the living room. We met other families staying at the Inn here, thankfully we didnt have to disagree on which channels to watch! The Innkeepers are friendly and gave us great suggestions for dinner and things to do in the area. The reason for 3 star and not 4 star - the price set for the rooms cannot be justified with the amenities offered. read more

We just returned from a delightful weekend at the Brass Lantern Inn. Maryanne and George were perfect hosts. They were very personable and inviting, and offered a number of helpful tips that assured that we made the most of our time in Vermont. Breakfast was delicious, with George cooking up quiche on Saturday, and French Toast on Sunday, paired with fresh fruits and pastries. We stayed in the Mansfield Room. In addition to a beautiful view of Mount Mansfield, the room itself was spacious, impeccably clean, and charming, with a gas fireplace and a number of great amenities. The bed was very comfortable with nice linens. The fresh pitcher of water and ice was also nice touch. The location can't be beat. It's just a 2-3 minute drive to central Stowe, about a 15 minute drive to Waterbury, and is situated near numerous Green Mountain sites. All of this serene comfort was very affordable. On vacation, we typically like to stay at B&B's, and while there is room for improvement, the Brass Lantern has the charm I look for to relax. Other reviews said the downers, and mostly because expectations are higher for the price - yes, even in the cheapest room. The TV was only in one small room, sound traveled through the walls, the mattress was hard (I like soft), and the room was smaller than expected. BUT, George and Mary Ann are wonderful hosts, the home and grounds were clean, comfortable and beautiful with great mountain views, and there are several rooms to sit, relax, and get the stress out. Also, there was free Wi-Fi. For me, these points are why I like B&Bs. For a lower price or bigger room and a softer bed, I would go back. read more

WOW! The Brass Lantern Inn was the highlight of our two week Autumn adventure! George and Mary Anne have spared no detail in providing a totally exquisite experience for their very fortunate guests. The bed was extremely comfortable, and with spotlessly clean and soft linens. The pitcher of water in our room, and a freshly filled ice bucket was a very nice and welcome touch. Breakfasts were just fabulous, while enjoying the view from the lovely dining room. Every now and then we also got to chat briefly with Mary Anne who is so delightful we wanted to grab all her time and just hang out! We had a really nice stay here! The room was very comfortable (and quiet -- we didn't hear the main road out front at all), with the great added bonus of a whirlpool tub. We loved the hot tub outside, the wonderful breakfast, the great local recommendations (Mary Ann told us how to get to some nice local swimming spots, plus recommended an amazing restaurant in town), and we found it to be very reasonably priced. The quintessential inn with the quintessential innkeepers -- MaryAnne (sp?) and George. Friendly but not ingratiating, attentive but not intrusive, knowledgeable without being know-it-alls. We had a smaller room but found it to be cozy and comfortable. All the details were spot on; from the pitcher of ice-water awaiting us upon arrival down to the bedside chocolates that ensured our sweet dreams. There are many common/shared rooms at the inn, including a reading room beside a warm fire, game room, ski & gear nook, and hot-tub; but we spent the most time in the dining area. Breakfast was always served promptly and with a smile and each day (three total) of the stay featured a hearty and delicious breakfast prepared by George. A good thing too, because the slopes were *freezing* (-35 below wind chill) when we were on the mountain at Stowe (approximately 10 easy driving minutes away). Bonus: cookie, hot tea, and hot chocolate hour runs from 4pm to 7pm at the Brass Lantern and is a delight for those chilled bones coming in from the cold. MaryAnne also gave us the inside skinny on best runs and ski conditions on the mountain for us, as well as insider's tips to the town and local sites. My wife and I were visiting Stowe for a hiking getaway and stayed four nights at the Brass Lantern Inn. We always try to stay at B and B's and this one is a definite keeper. The inn is cozy, immaculately clean, and in an excellent location. The common areas are amazing and the grounds are spacious with unbelievable views of Mount Mansfield. Mary Anne is the hostess without equal. She is thorough, pays attention to detail and always follows up. She is accessible, loves to chat and is extremely helpful with local activities. She tracks each guest's food needs and make sure there is a menu that fits. She has coffee out early in the morning, tea and homemade cookies in the afternoon and a freshwater pitcher and ice placed in you room every afternoon. The dining area which looks out on the mountains also has an area with a fridge, microwave and coffee machine to allow guests to prepare meals to eat out on the porch or tables nearby. There are always fresh wrapped plates with silverware and napkins available to use. George is the chef and gardener among other things. His plantings are beautiful and the breakfasts are scrumptious. Each afternoon a white board announces the next morning's menu and if you have a problem with a dish Mary Anne will make it right. During our stay we had fresh muffins, almond cake, quiche, Belgian waffles, frittata, pancakes, roasted potatoes, fresh fruit cups to name a few. Nothing was less than excellent. The Brass Lantern Inn is a hidden 5-star gem. Here you can meet all the needs of a perfect getaway. We will be back. read more

Few times am I inspired to go out of my way to write a review, but Mary Anne and George have done so with the Brass Lantern Inn. As they say, the devil is in the details, and I found that they have paid attention to those details. Lots of little things were done right.....homemade cookies in the afternoon, towels available as you walk out to the hot tub, filtered water pitcher in the room, wine glasses and corkscrew immediately available (they decided not to sell wine so that you are legally allowed to bring in your own), and they were in the process of installing 250MB down internet as we were there. Oh, and the breakfast. House made goodies every morning, cooked to order (a strata one day, pumpkin or blueberry or plain pancakes another, quiche a third), perfect temperature and served with warm syrup when required and real butter! It should be so simple everywhere. George and Mary Anne are also delightful hosts, taking the time to learn the names of all of their guests and introduce them during their stay. You just can't find a better B&B. It is our favorite of all time. read more

Loved staying here. We felt totally at home in this warm and cozy B&B. Mary Anne was welcoming, super helpful, and warm. George was also extremely friendly and warm. When I asked Mary Anne where the nearing laundromat was, she offered to put in a load of laundry herself (this happened to be a day where there were fewer customers - not a standard service offered by the inn!) I'd 6 stars for going the extra mile if I could. The inn has beautiful common space inside and outside. The back of the inn has stunning views of the mountains. The most coveted breakfast table looks out directly through large windows. There is some sporting equipment laying arund, and there is also a very nice hot tub outside! The innkeepers are very knowledgeable. The is especially helpful for small towns, where not all attractions have made it into yelp yet. Breakfast stood out as delicious, even compared to other B&B's which had great offerings. Accommodating for a vegetarian was no problem. Our room was very nice and well-sized, if perhaps a bit rustic. Having the AC was nice during a hot spell in May. Wifi was fast and solid. Getting into town requires driving about 1/3 of a mile (or a walk along the shoulder of the rural highway). Stowe is extremely small, but a really lovely small town. The absolute best B&B we have ever stayed at!! Everything was perfect! The whole place was charming - fire in the fireplace, big comfy chairs and couches in the common area, breakfast room that looks out at views of the mountains, hot tub out the back door, terrycloth robes, bedroom with a four-poster bed, gas parlor stove, and views from the bedroom of the mountains. They had cookies available in the afternoon, chocolates on the bedside tables, and spectacular breakfasts (including a quiche one day, belgian waffles the second day, and frittata the third day - with fresh fruit every day). My stay at The Brass Lantern Inn was pleasant enough. The room was clean, the hot tub was hot, breakfast was filling and there was a nice common area. I would have given it three stars except that the rate was half again as much as the room was worth. Negatives include: being able to hear traffic from Route 100 everywhere in the Inn, breakfast being uninspired, a cramped bathroom and that the on-line reservation system doesn't tell you the exact price of your room, only a price range, before you commit to a deposit. read more

We stayed her for a couple days late August and were totally blown away by our experience. Mary Anne and George were awesome guests and made sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing! George made breakfast every morning and it was fantastic! I've had the pleasure of staying at the Brass Lantern Inn on 3 separate occasions. Each time, I found it to be a delightful visit especially with Maryanne and George Lewis at the helm. The location is lovely, the Inn is well-kept, beautifully decorated, the rooms are lovely. The breakfasts were out of this world, homemade waffles with blueberry/lemon compote, delicious quiche, fluffy pancakes with true maple syrup, all to die for. Coffee was delicious and in the afternoon, they served up homemade cookies/coffee and tea...The view is lovely, birdwatching is easy, the beds were comfy, rooms cozy, I couldn't find a thing to complain about if I tried...It's made my travel to Stowe a treat every year with friends...I'm struck by those that gave less than 5 stars, I have to believe they enjoy complaining, that's all there is to it! read more

If I could give 20 stars the Brass Lantern would get them. I went for a short get away and was so thrilled that I picked the best place to stay. George and Mary Anne could not have been nicer or more accommodating. From the moment we arrived perfection prevailed. From the treats and lemonade in the afternoon to the morning breakfast and excellent coffee. The rooms were a sanctuary and were clean, comfortable and cozy. Each morning we were greeted by friendly faces, wonderful breakfasts, gorgeous views out the dining room windows, and birds singing the glory of the day and thanking George and Mary Ann better than any human possibly could. There were treats in the afternoon to enjoy on the back porch and little red squirrels to watch playing at the edges of the trees. The view from the Mount Mansfield room was breathtakingly beautiful. The room was comfortable and roomy. There were several local restaurants that we enjoyed, and the townspeople were friendly and helpful. They were very helpful showing us some of the tourist destination on the map and recommending some good restaurants. They offered gluten-free food for my friend that has an allergy. They were very sweet about accommodating to the allergy and went the extra mile for us. The Inn had tons of living space with three different areas to sit and either play games, read, or watch tv. The room we stayed in was cozy, but we also got the cheapest room there. So if we wanted more space we would have upgraded. It was perfect for our weekend getaway. We stayed on the side of the house closest to Rt 100 and were not bothered by the noise at all. We read all the great reviews about this place and decided to book a stay for our anniversary weekend. We were not disappointed. George and Mary Ann are the best! They really do greet all their guest by first name. We got there and checked in (we stayed in the Mt. Mansfield room) and I was very excited that there was a Britta filled with water and an ice bin already filled with ice. It's like they knew I was coming. The room was very nice and clean with a spectacular mountain view. Free wifi that worked well which is something I don't even find in big hotels sometimes and a Keurig coffee maker. The breakfast was spectacular. George cooks and Mary Ann serves and they are an unbelievable team. Everyone that stayed there you could tell felt right at home. The only very small complaint I would have is that they could use an upgrade on their shower head. Otherwise, it was an incredibly enjoyable stay and we will certainly return next time we are in Stowe. read more

I read the first review and could not belive what I read! The Brass Lantern Inn is the best B & B that my husband and I have stayed at. When we stayed at the inn the in February (and went back in March) we were talking with another couple in the great room that loved it there as much was we did. It think that the breakfast was very good and not over done, the rooms and decor were beautiful, Nancy & Joe were so nice, and the inn was comfortable felt like home with a beautiful view of Mt Mansfield. We loved the hot tub and everything else about the inn. Nancy and Joe even let us sled off the back hill it was so much fun! The room rate was very reasonable for the prime time sking we had and for the beautiful place we got to stay. Some of the other inns we saw along the mountain road were not as nice as the website had showed when we were searching for a place to stay (although we did not see the insides). We highly recommed this Inn to anyone thinking of staying there! read more

My wife and I stayed at the Brass Lantern for a weekend ski trip to Stowe. First off, we were delighted by the very reasonable rate. The room we stayed in is, I believe, the smallest they have, but it was perfect for our needs. It was warm and cozy and the bed was divine, giving both of us, who are otherwise imperfect sleepers, two solid nights of restful sleep. The common rooms are well-appointed and tastefully outfitted with antique country touches. While we didn't use the game room, we spent a good deal of one relaxing evening reading in the living room warmed by the fire and with ample reading materials at hand. From 4:00 to 8:00 there are homemade cookies and beverages in the dining room for guests to help themselves to, a much appreciated touch. The breakfasts exceeded our expectations: one morning it was waffles with blueberries plus scrambled eggs and sausages and a side of fresh fruit; the next morning it was an especially cheesy and delicious quiche with herbed red-skin potatoes and fresh fruit once again. The place is immaculate throughout and suitable quiet. It's location provides quick access to the village and is a fairly short jaunt from Stowe Mountain Resort. Best of all were our hosts Mary Anne and George. George is a superb breakfast chef; Mary Anne is probably the most congenial and helpful host I've encountered at any of a number of B&Bs.
