Came into this bar in Winooski for drinks and was actually impressed with the food. It didn't look like the place was anything special but the product and service made it. Mule Bar is more than some divy ass place. Actually has a pretty good menu of some healthy things and not just greasy junk. The food includes a few vegan items as well. At lunch it wasn't that busy. It's pretty cramped inside so it still felt like it was, but we got a few bar seats. The drink menu was why we came, and there was good stuff on this. Lots of local beers on tap to choose from. Of course they make mules. It's about $12 for a cocktail. The coolest sounding one was the Peanut Butter Jelly Thyme. It's peanut butter washed bourbon with plum, strawberry, and thyme bitters. Kind of like drinking a sandwich. Speaking of sandwiches, they had these to eat too. It's about $13 to get one. They have burgers, and they have the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Amazing fact: you can get a vegan version of it. They make the alternate with some kind of plant based patty. Get lots of great drinks and food. When in Vermont I was seeking out some of the more "craft" centric Canadian brews. While searching I came across a bar up in Winooski called Mule Bar that not only carried some amazing Canadian brews, but also plenty of Hill Farmstead and other great beers. Turns out Mule Bar is a popular bar and eatery located in Winooski, Vermont. Known for its vibrant atmosphere, extensive beer selection, and creative food offerings, Mule Bar has become a favorite spot for both locals and visitors. They were kind enough to do half pours for me so I could try three different beers. Voyage (YUL): A Double IPA brewed in collaboration between Messorem and Track Brewing Company. They hopped this beer to full saturation with Motueka, Riwaka, and Nelson Sauvin CGX. Diesel dank notes with gooseberry and tangerine. Full mouthfeel, but not chewy (if that makes sense). MAQUETTE: A Double IPA brewed in collaboration between BreWskey and Le Ketch hopped with Rakau, Nelson Sauvin, Riwaka, and Motueka de chez Eggers Hops. Another saturated beer with a beautiful color. Tropical and dank. Song of Spring (2024): I couldn't pass up this fresh Hill Farmstead Beer. I'm a fan of mules so I had to stop here to at least try one. Had the pineapple mule and it was delicious. The girls bartending were so nice and conversed with me since I was solo at the bar. A nice regular who later sat at the bar also said to try the clam chowder, which they won awards for, but I didn't try it since I just had bfast. Decor is dope very unique. Plants, quotes from various ppl hanging on the wall, dried up limes hanging from the lights, vinyl records definitely enjoyed the vibes. Gets pretty busy but not too bad where you need a reservation. Yeah, no. Yelp really steered us wrong here. We came in for an early dinner based on the reviews and the photos here on Yelp. We took a couple of bites, asked for the check, and walked next door to have dinner there. The menu was tragic. None of the interesting or enticing offerings were available-or even on the menu in the first place. The cheese board was literally half a round of ONE type of cheese and some blackened toast. I don't mean slightly burned. I mean completely chargrilled. The poutine fries tasted stale, as if the potato it was made from was old and dry or even, heaven forbid, freezer-burned. The cheese curds were cold. Just came out of the fridge and were thrown carelessly on top cold. And the generic gravy did nothing to help. Maybe the drinks here are amazing and that's what makes the food bearable or makes the owner think it makes sense to post photos of menu items that don't actually exist. I don't know. The Everyone Eats Program is a program where you can get a meal (4 oz of meat and a side) from a restaurant and they get reimbursed $10 for the meal. The restaurant is required to purchase at least 10% of their overall produce from local farmers... So it's a win-win for all involved Paying close attention to the fact that it was created to FEED people that were negatively effected by Covid, while supporting local businesses and farmers So, I have been to the Mule Bar 4 times. The first two times I had interaction with the owner. We had nice conversation about the program and how it's a win-win for all More recently I have been served by a particular female server. The Mule Bar used to offer a hamburger and fries, now they only offer a pulled pork sandwich and fries. My daughter has an allergy to histamine and can not eat tomatoes or bbq sauce, so she can't eat the pulled pork sandwich. I asked her if they were going to offer the hamburger again and she said she didn't know, she was new. She said they probably offer the pulled pork sandwich because it's more cost effective (because they can order less expensive meat and brine it and serve older meat with less detection) Yesterday I ordered food from Our House Bristo, which is amazing, they make your Mac and Cheese to order and it takes about an hour. They give you a huge container, it's about 2 lbs of food. Easily 2 meals. At 5 pm I called the Mule Bar and ordered one meal, so Emma could eat the fries while we wait for the food from Our House Bristo. The server said it would be ready in 10 minutes, I said I was stuck in traffic and it would take me longer than that to get there. She said "it will be here waiting for you" I got there at 5:30. There were 3 different orders there, bagged up. They put them in brown bags to help keep the food warm and they put condiments in the bag.. napkins, ketchup and salad dressing for the lettuce I got there at 5:30. My order was not bagged up. I asked her for a smaller container, so I could put the fries in it for my daughter. My food was cold, which I knew it would be because she told me it would be. The condiments were in my food container, literally, in my food. I put the fries in the smaller container and left. She was like, you don't want this. I said no and left. I literally did not speak to her, but to ask for a container and say no I didn't want the sandwich. I privately messaged the Mule Bar to complain about her condescending attitude and obvious prejudice towards me because I'm poor. This was based off my 1st encounters with her and then her nasty attitude this time. A restaurant should be made aware when a server is rude, condensing and prejudice against poor people, so they can at least know how people are being treated... The owner of the Mule Bar told me that I was ungrateful trash and that I was no longer welcome at the Mule Bar because I wasn't grateful for my free meal (which isn't free, they get paid from the Everyone Eats Program, they're not running a soup kitchen, they're not the Salvation Army or the People's Kitchen...programs that actually offer free meals) So apparently the server is a reflection of the owners own prejudice against poor people It literally makes me sick that people think that it's okay to be bigoted against someone, that they're being paid to help, because I am negatively effected by Covid. I'm sorry I'm poor and was trying to support your business. Apparently he doesn't want poor people in his restaurant and I want people to know that, so they can choose to support him or not. He also lied about not holding meals, out of the 30 restaurants that participate in the program he is the only one who will not wait 10 mins to make your order because you're stuck in traffic. Came here while apartment hunting for a quick bite to eat at lunch time. Our bartender-server was very nice and too the time to give me some great information about the area and area apartment complexes (Sold me on staying in the vicinity). Our table ordered three plates of sliders: a couple of basic burgers with cheddar, the veggie burger, which all came with awesome fries and a Hill Farmstead Edward American Pale Ale. The burgers were juicy and cooked per preferred temp, which is alway a bonus. The veggie slider, however, was the real star. The fries looked to be house cut and they too were very good. I am not a fan of veggie burgers, but this one, described on the menu as a "house made curried sweet potato-lentil patty (contains nuts) on brioche bun with mesclun greens, pickles with house orange-cilantro salsa" was the best damn veggie burger I've ever eaten. It bursted with fresh flavor. The bartender told me people love them so much, they'll top them with one of the meat proteins. I'd live to figure out exactly how they made it because I could eat these at least once a week. I guess when I move here, I'll have to make that happen. The Hill Farmstead Edward American Pale Ale was very refreshing and light. It had a really nice grapefruit-y flavor and citrus aroma. Looks like a brewery tour is needed. Ah, the Mule Bar - a half dozen tables, a row of seats at the bar but some of the best food and drink you'll find in the Burlington area (you just have to go 7 minutes to Winooski to find it). Their can and draft list rotates regularly but what doesn't change is how well selected everything you drink will be. The food, just as good. We're about 45 minutes from Quebec and being Québécois myself, when there's poutine on the menu, a muttered "tabernak" crosses my lips. The Mule, however, kicks the door down and does it right. Not an American "gravy fries" but an actual, mon dieu poutine minus the stop at douanes! Chalice, it's just like it should be! Paired with my favorite, the fried boneless chicken thigh sandwich (yes, thighs, because that's where the flavor is), you're all done. Crispy breading, soft roll, acid from the pickle, tangy sauce. Yes please. Hit them once a month if you can, but if you can only come once a year, you won't regret it. If you can only make it once in your life, look for the Beer Geek Breakfast done once a year. You'll spend all morning eating course after course of food paired with excellent beers that will blow your mind. All those crazy cooking shows with the wacky plates and all of that - yes, here - but with beer and the same stellar quality or higher. I wish they used better bread, because the sandwich was amazing, the bread lost its property value. Tasted dry and stale. But the fillings. Omg delicious. Outside seating only during COVID. Beer on tap - IPAs just so-so. Stout and porter pretty good. The Lobster roll was like a lobster salad with chopped lobster, mayonnaise and maybe some other items. Large lobster roll and tasty. The skinny french fries were delicious with fresh rosemary. They came with ketchup and mayo which was interesting. The Mule Burger was ridiculously good. It is a large serving so we split one which worked out great. Our server had it divided for us which we really appreciated. A definite do-over! read more

The staff was very friendly. We ordered a mule bar burger and a bbq chicken sandwich. The burger was ordered rare and it was great. The chicken in the sandwich was pretty dry, as grilled chicken usually is, and had a bitter burnt taste to it. Should've ordered something else. The sandwiches are priced pretty high, considering it's just a sandwich, no fries or anything on the side. But it's bar food, that's pretty typical. If you're stopping to get drinks with friends, it's probably a pretty good place for that. If you just want a quick bite, you might consider looking around a little more. I love the Mule Bar and truthfully wish I made it there more often. They are back to doing lunch service and I'm pretty pumped about that. There's plenty to love with the folks at the Mule Bar. It's starts with their friendly and knowledgable staff, tipping my hat to you, Paul, Troy and Peter. It probably helps that I know these guys from being in the 'industry' for many years myself, but that also means I know that I truly can attest to their knowledge and naturally friendly demeanors. Okay now, on with it, what else you ask? -Excellent burgers with excellent toppings. Local beef- bonus, cooked correctly- double bonus -More fantastic food choices. The salad is always super fresh and adequately dressed. The fries are in my opinion the best around; the fried fresh herbs really take it up a notch. I've had items from past menus that are really good, but truthfully I struggle to go beyond the burger here. -Vast beer draught selection that typically had a good amount of variety -Inventive cocktail list -TV (if thats your thing) -Indoor and outdoor seating The one caveat is that I think the seating in there is a bit uncomfortable and I always seem to be having a battle with the temperature. I think in the winter they could use one of those curtains by the door to help with the cold blasts. Aside from this super minor detail this place is awesome. This is a nice little bar in downtown Winooski right on the center roundabout. We came here to grab some beers. Not much to say there - the beers were solid and the selection's not bad. Not the biggest list of beers but a good handful to choose from. Between the beers, I started getting hungry and decided to order some grub. It was between the Mule burger and the Crispy chicken sandwich. I went with the chicken. And boy was I glad I did. The chicken sandwich comes on a nice soft brioche bun. The chicken is crispy and juicy with a zesty aioli sauce to boot. Comes with a side of rosemary fries or you get a nice list of optional sides to choose. The sandwich unfortunately is a bit overpriced at $13 but then again it was also pretty damn satisfying. I saw several other people also getting the chicken sandwich so this must be their go-to dish. Been to a number of places in the Burlington area, and I really like the Mule. I liked other places too, but this is just an awesome spot. I found the staff to be very friendly, and the service was good each time I've gone. About the only downside is that it can get crowded, but generally I've managed to find a spot either at the bar, or along the front window, where you can watch life go by on the Winooski circle. A small patch of outdoor seating is available in warmer months. The Mule has a rotating draft beer selection of mostly local craft beers, but they also pull in from Stone, Two Roads, and others. They also have a good list of craft beer in cans and bottles, including Heady Topper and Focal Banger, both from The Alchemist, when available. Lawson's and Hillstead are also often represented on the tap lineup. The food is also good. Tuesday Taco night offers interesting tacos, in a fusion cuisine kind of way, with a variety of homemade hot sauces available in every range of heat. I've also had the Mule Burger several times (plus Swiss and bacon, because, bacon). The bacon was great, and the overall burger was a good size and cooked right each time.
