Made a reservation for 4:45 in order to make the Bistro Dinner fixed price till five for $28 which includes an entree and soup or salad. We were seated in the bar area which nicely decorated transforming you to another country. My husband and I both got the soup which was delicious. I ordered the chicken cavatappi in a cream sauce with peas and roasted tomatoes. The flavors were amazing. My husband ordered the beef bourguignon with mashed potatoes. He could stop raving about it. read more

Had a perfect event in the private room upstairs last month. We ordered from the gold party menu and guests could choose from: steak frites, salmon, chicken, or scallops. They added in the pork a an additional option. Service was outstanding from the bartender and his helper. We had one meal come quite a bit after the rest, but that was the only true hiccup. They were super helpful in helping sneak in cupcakes for my bosses birthday surprise, and served those alongside the cheesecake. I'd definitely book another event there in the future. read more

I ordered the filet medium well, but it came out medium rare. By the time our server came back, my husband was already halfway through his meal. She took my steak back to the kitchen, and my husband decided to wait for mine to come back before finishing his--until I finally insisted he keep eating because it was taking forever. The steak was replaced, and this time it was definitely WELL done, but honestly, I preferred that to medium rare, so I ate it. The other issue was our table on the patio. There was what I assume was an AC vent above us that kept dripping onto the table. I ended up having to move my plate and drink out of the way so they didn't get dripped on. I'm generally pretty patient about things like this, but between the steak, the long wait for the replacement, and water dripping onto our table, it just wasn't a great experience overall. On the bright side, my husband said the pork chop was good--so there's that. read more

Arrived at 4:30 and asked about any specials they had and were pointedly NOT told about their fixed price/Early Bird offering. After we ordered, the table behind us was seated and they asked about the Early Bird Special and were brought out a special menu. It's very easy to hear everything going on at the tables around you since they are packed together very closely. The food, however, was very good. I ordered the North African Stew and my husband got the Beef Bourguignon. read more

My family and I stopped here for lunch during a recent visit to Burlington. The restaurant was busy, so I was glad I had made reservations. We were seated immediately upon arrival, and our server greeted us right away. Since we had another appointment to get to, we let her know we were in a hurry, and she did a great job expediting our order. Our food arrived surprisingly quickly. My oldest son ordered the beef bourguignon, which was very tasty, although the mashed potatoes could have used a little more salt. My youngest had the croque monsieur and really enjoyed it. My wife ordered the curried chicken salad. She liked the salad itself but wasn't impressed with the croissant it was served on. I ordered the steak frites. While the steak wasn't the best cut, it was cooked properly and well seasoned. Overall, the service was excellent and the food was decent, but nothing really stood out enough to make me want to return. There are other restaurants in Burlington that I would choose to try before coming back here. read more

Excellent downtown restaurant in Burlington! We were immediately acknowledged and seated on the patio. We began our lunch with the Cheese Charcuterie platter; delicious plate of local cheese, crackers and jam. I ordered the grilled Salmon with Frites. It was cooked just right with the best flavor! The frites were hot and crunchy good. The burger was delicious and cooked as requested. This little french bistro was a perfect choice for our mid day meal. Glad we tried it! read more

We walked by the night before and the plates looked amazing, so we decided to give this French Bistro a try. It's got a great location right on Church St. and it has a cozy and warm vibe for a wintery day. We made Sunday reservations and arrived at 7:45 PM as the evening was winding down. Our waitress was excellent and we enjoyed her help throughout the evening. My son and I ordered Beef Bourguignon and my wife ordered the Mediterranean Salmon pasta. A few glasses of wine and some great food made for a nice evening as we dropped our son off at UVM. Pricing was around +$25-30 per plate. I would come again! read more

**Leunig's Bistro -- dinner for three, September 7** I'd been looking forward to this meal. The service, management, and food turned it into a disappointment. The wine list doesn't show vintages, so I asked our server to check three bottles by their list numbers. He came back with two of the three wrong. I ended up asking for pen and paper to write the numbers down myself before we could order. Not a great start, but forgivable on its own. The bigger problem came with the entrées. Two of our three main courses arrived; the third didn't. After several minutes with two plates going cold, we flagged down a different server to ask where it was. Only then did our own server come over and tell us the kitchen was out of the tuna. Nobody had mentioned this when we ordered, or at any point before the other plates hit the table. My mussels were missing any meaningful amount of broth. I asked for the manager. Rather than acknowledging the lapses, she was defensive and offered nothing beyond suggesting my friend order something else and wait while the rest of us ate. Restaurants run out of dishes -- that's normal. Letting a table find out only after the other entrées are served, and then treating the complaint as an inconvenience, is not. Add a 3% credit card surcharge on top, and I left feeling the evening wasn't worth $205. Everyone deserves better than Leunig's. I have to believe the talent has left the building. read more

A cozy, French bistro with intimate seating and a bustling crowd for a Sunday night. Our waitress gave recommendations for popular items and seasonal choices. The menu is extensive with an item suited for anyone dining. We had the Pumpkin Chowder and Onion Soup for our starters- pictured is the glorious cheese pull and rich savory broth. For entrees we ordered the French classic, Beef Bourguignon, and a light, protein forward White Truffle Beef Tartare with homemade kettle chips. The entree portions are very large, bring your appetite or plan on a to-go box. read more

Extremely disappointing experience, especially for a $155 dinner. The service was terrible from start to finish. I specifically ordered my steak without the mushroom ragout, and it still came out covered in it. I had to send it back and wait for another steak. By the time my replacement finally arrived, my partner had already completely finished their meal, so we basically didn't even get to eat dinner together. To make matters worse, the replacement steak wasn't even cooked correctly. I ordered it medium, and it came out rare. After having my first steak made incorrectly and then waiting all that time, you would think they'd make absolutely sure the replacement was right. What really bothered me was that after all of this, nothing was taken off the bill and no discount or meaningful attempt was made to make things right. We still paid $155 including tip for a dinner where my order was made incorrectly twice and my partner and I couldn't even eat at the same time. For the prices Leunig's charges, I expected significantly better food quality, attention to the order, and service. Definitely not the experience I expected and I would not return after this. read more

While walking around Church Street on Friday morning, I decided to stop by Leunig's based on the great reviews--and I'm glad I did. The ambience is charming and cozy, with a touch of Parisian flair. I got seated right away at 11:30 am, and the place was pleasantly quiet. I chose a window seat, which was perfect for a bit of people watching on Church Street. They also have outdoor seating, which I'll definitely try next time. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and went with the steak frites. The steak was tasty, but the real highlight for me was the fries--crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and full of flavor. Simple yet delicious. Overall, a lovely spot for a relaxed meal in the heart of Burlington. Great service, good food, and the perfect location to soak in the vibe of Church Street. read more

Leunig's Bistro - Steak Frites - French Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

Burlington, VT - we came here for a late supper on a quiet Sunday evening as the food looked pretty good and the menu is appealing with a rounded variety of bistro classics. The fam were in a Canadian state of mind and ordered poutine (short rib + duck confit) which was tasty. The duck poutine was overpowered by rosemary at the end but we uncovered a surprising amount of duck at the bottom, so dig! The feta cheesecake, new to the menu, was a revelation. Even as a non-feta fan, I was won over by the savory & creamy texture and flavor. Probably my favorite item of the night. I enjoyed my rich & loaded cavatappi carbonara but didn't love the beef bourguignon my husband ordered which was disappointingly dry and chippy - in part because I make a fine one at home that's luxuriously fall-apart-tender in gravy so have higher expectations of this standard dish in a French restaurant, even a casual one. Our waitress was lovely, though the hostess wasn't terribly warm or welcoming. There's a lot to like here however and I wouldn't mind touring across more of the menu. read more

What a wonderful evening we had at Leunig Bistro! This is a beautiful restaurant, and we were lucky enough to have a window seat that opened right onto the street. It made for some fun people-watching while we enjoyed a Citrus Garlic & Herb Infused Shrimp & Beef Skewer with Peppadew compote. The skewers were cooked perfectly and were a delicious way to start the meal. For dinner, we decided to split two entrées. The Salade Niçoise featured a thin, perfectly seared piece of very rare fresh Ahi tuna over a salad of hard-boiled egg, avocado, roasted red peppers, grilled onions, roasted potatoes, haricots verts, Kalamata olives, capers, and house dressing. It was paired with delicious Parsnip Frites. We also shared the Veggie Cavatappi, featuring Portobello mushrooms over cavatappi pasta in a creamy Parmesan sauce. It was absolutely to die for! Somehow, we managed to leave enough room to split the Maple Crème Brûlée, which may have been the highlight of the entire meal. It was fantastic. The service was friendly, although it dragged a bit at times. Honestly, we didn't mind--we were enjoying the food, the atmosphere, and the beautiful restaurant too much to worry about it. One word of caution: while we absolutely loved Leunig Bistro, we felt that parts of downtown Burlington have changed and didn't feel quite as comfortable walking around after dinner as we would have liked. If you're unfamiliar with the area, I'd suggest going earlier and being mindful of your surroundings. Five stars for sure! Great food, beautiful atmosphere, and a wonderful evening. We loved it--and we'll definitely be back. Just be safe and enjoy! read more

It was a dark and stormy night! Coming into this warm and cozy restaurant was like be welcomed in by friends sheltering us from the storm. Everything from food to service to ambiance was excellent. So glad we made reservations. The tables were close and all were full. We had to wait for about 5 minutes for our little two top to be vacated and set up for us. Crystal, our server greeted us and got us started on drinks - Pinot Grigio for my husband, a virgin Hot Toddy for me. After perusing the menu we decided upon Chicken Statler for him, Mediterranean Salmon Pasta for me. Both dishes were excellent. Along with the pasta and the flaky fresh salmon, there were roasted tomatoes, kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, baby spinach, all blended with a rich feta parmesan cream sauce. The only downside was that the main course was so good, we had no room for dessert. Good food, good service, cozy atmosphere. Definitely worth the visit. read more

Onion soup- excellent! Knowledgeable waiter. Salads crisp & well dressed. Repeatable.

Interesting that the restaurant didn't respond not that I expected it. But disappointed. Maybe it's an a let's practice in Burlington or this restaurant. Hope they had a talk with the staff Aside: they have a bunch of signs in the store front windows on Church St where this restaurant is located that says immigrants should be treated equally and welcomed (I'm paraphrasing). Since I am an immigrant, I feel like these are just empty words with no true meaning. read more

We were at Leunig's for lunch on a Monday. It is one of the few restaurants that's open on Monday noon in Church St Marketplace area. Obviously there were a lot customers at the restaurant due to this fact. They had both indoor and outdoor seating options available. We sat inside, right front of the fancy bar. They also had a big dining hall at the back as well. There was only one waiter who was attending all the tables. For first 10 minutes, we didn't get any attention from him, until we had to call him to put in our orders. The food came out within a decent time. Fried oyster was good. I got the trio slider that had lamb, venison and bison. Each of them was made with different toppings. I really liked the variety and the way they were cooked. But the best dish was the chicken fingers my daughter got. Probably the best chicken finger I ever ate. It was made so well with thin fried layer and soft chunky chicken inside. We all liked the french fries as well. Overall all the food dishes were spectacular. Personally I had mixed feeling about the place as I had amazing food here but the service was not satisfactory. I'd still recommend Leunig's for its unique menu and incredible food. read more

Upon arrival, the host promptly sat us at a table. The tables were very close to each other. Barely any wiggle room. We were there for Monday lunch. There was only 1 waiter and 1 bartender. We waited A WHILE before the waiter came to take our order. All we had were appetizers and kids meal so it came out fast because I felt other tables waited long for food as well. Despite the wait, the food was actually good. We had lobster with salad, sliders, oysters and chicken tenders/fries(kid's). All are flavorful and tender. They breaded the lobster which was pleasantly good with lemons (like calamari). Oysters were cooked with garlic flavor. Great portion of chicken tenders, we all had some because they were really good. Overall a busy restaurant at downtown area. Great food if you don't mind to wait. read more

My husband and I came across this place while walking around and decided to have dinner here. We ate outside since there was no wait. The food was great, but the service... no. It was quite hot in the afternoon and typically when it's hot, I don't have much of an appetite. At this point it cooled off considerably so I had no problems being outside. My husband ordered the 'Beef Bourguignon' which was Beef Tips Braised in Red Wine, with Bacon, Pearl Onions, Carrots, Celery & Button Mushrooms With Garlic Mashed Potatoes & Haricots Verts. He absolutely loved it and the portion size was great. I ordered 2 soups for my main because, as stated before, I was not that hungry. I ordered a chilled soup: 'Chilled Green Tomato Avocado Gazpacho' and a french onion soup. They were both absolutely delicious. However, you would have thought I murdered someone. The server said, "You do realize it's 2 soups". I said yes. She said, "You want 2 soups?" and I said, "Yes, I am not that hungry. That is what I'm ordering". I understand her telling me it's 2 soups - just incase I didn't realize - but after I said I was aware, she kept going and was completely baffled at why I was ordering 2 soups. Who cares? I'm PAYING you for the soups.. just give it to me. I felt very judged (because I was being judged) and when she bought them over OR checked on our table, she just kept saying "Here are the 2 soups" or "Hows the 2 soups?" Why would I order something big if I know I'm not that hungry? She asked about our vacation. We told her about it and she immediately questioned it. We explained why we choose to do what we were doing and still questioned it. I don't understand this lady. I liked the food and I would never come back or recommend. Her judgey attitude was uncalled for and she did it to a few tables about certain things. Just unnecessary. read more

If you visit Burlington, you should go here for a meal. This area has heavy traditions of French cuisine and the food here is pretty legit for the US. The ambiance is beautiful old building with top notch staff with friendly service. We forgot our leftover bag and the server ran out to catch us! Super nice. Expect to pay $19-20 for a sandwich or salad but all the food I saw came out of the kitchen looking great. If I had a negative it would be that they don't have any French beer on tap. And they DO have two taps devoted to Von Trapp beer that is really not good at all compared to other Vermont offerings. Cocktails were beautiful and delicious so my wife really enjoyed her day date with me. Highly recommend. read more

I wanted this to be special. I wanted it to excel. It let me down in so many ways. Five people, four appetisers, two wine and one beer, and four main courses. I was lured here because someone said it was better than Bistro de Margo; it was not. Service was good from the server and poor from the bus boys and kitchen. The kitchen failed in many ways. Could I give it fractional scorse it would be 2.6. The server was good and had a phenomenal memory to take all our orders with no notes. Wow! The three appetizers were delivered out of order. One came. Fast forward 20 minutes; the remaining two came out. The appetizer dishes were never cleared. They hung around until we decided not to have desert! The appetizers were underwhelming; how can you screw up a Caesar salad? The main courses disappointed in many ways. The dishes were serverd luke warm. Mussels were dehydrated on top of the heap and obvioulsy sat under a heat map. The steaks were cooked well but accompaniments were cold, cool, or barely warm; take your pick none were appetizing. The plates were stone cold which didn't help. Finally after dinner was served and eaten and plates cleared for deserts we did not order the remaining plates and debis were cleared from the table. Not good. Not professional. Not worth the money. The wines were good. The beer was good. Dinner came to $275 plus another $60 tip. It wasn't worth it. There is clealry issues in the kitchen and staff. They were simply not into it. I would not come back. If you want a French dinner look elsewhere or just don't try that in Burlington. read more

Every time the food and service is excellent. I haven't tried anything on the menu that I haven't loved. I love the oysters and escargot... and the eggplant sandwich. I had a great conversation with a total stranger on the ferry from NY to Vermont. They highly recommended eating at Leunig's Bistro. I looked at some reviews and decided it would be a good match for our group. We were seated quickly with menus and after a short while our server came over with water and took our drink order. There were many familiar items but also some very interesting choices. The Soup Pistou was hearty and tasty, the Gothamist sandwiches were delicious and came with a very nice portion of mixed greens with a vinaigrette. My Wedge Salad was good but disappointing.....two of the items listed were never put on my salad....and for the price... there was barely any bacon or blue cheese. (I was not looking for a cup but you can see from the picture there was barely a tablespoon. I also didn't think about the missing items until I was almost done) My most favorite part was when we saw someone eating escargot we had to order some. It was tender, with a delicious garlic butter sauce and melted cheese....we soaked it up with perfectly toasted baguette slices. Our server was excellent and I wish we lived closer! read more

Leunig's Bistro - French Near Me - Burlington, Vermont

We've been going to Leunig's for many years but the food quality, ambiance, service and feel of the place has deteriorated over the last year or two. Stopped in for a drink and wound up having a really nicely presented tasting of Vermont cheese. Server was very helpful. Nice place.

Came here for lunch with my family of 6 (and 2 kids) during labor day weekend. The restaurant was busy so service was a tad bit slower, but the staff was definitely doing their best (and they were very friendly about it as well). We are all vegetarian and their food was delicious - lots of vegetarian options and they are able to accommodate and adjust the menu for us. The food was really good (not gonna lie, the kids tomato pasta was delicious!). We did not order alcohol but got some mocktails and they were great. We sat outside on the patio and the weather was really nice and convenient for a group our size. read more

Food was good -- not exceptional. I had Eggs Benedict; my friend had a burger. She had to request more onions because her burger only had a very thin sliver. She said the meat was good. She said the French fries had an odd coating of some kind. We loved where we sat under a small moveable sail next to the promenade on Church Street, fascinating people- and dog-watching. Service from our particular server was aloof and disinterested. He disappeared for long periods of time when we needed his assistance. They did nit appear to be understaffed. Even though the food was OK we won't go back. We prefer to find places with GREAT food. read more

Overall: what a way to cap a beautiful day trip through Vermont. We had read another individuals review saying how he recently went on an emotional journey and came solo. Leunigs was pretty good with company too. Food: get the poutine full stop. A half portion (ask the server) is more than enough for 3 people to share. The duck with the cheese curds and the confit gravy really just starts you off with richness. I ordered the roasted chicken and I think the highlight was the vegetables. I had to tell the waiter that these were probably the most "real" vegetables I've had in a long time. Fresh full of flavor and taste like they came straight out of a garden. The meal really just reminds me of a wonderfully cooked home meal. Topped it off with some coffee and this weird hot cocoa cocktail. I actually despise chocolate but I would order that hot cocoa cocktail again if I could. Ambience/Decor/Service: really romantic American style restaurant decorations with dark lighting and old school seating and tableware. The server was a little late (other circumstances) but incredibly kind to talk to. read more

My wife and I went to check out the marketplace on Church Street. Let me tell you, you couldn't pay me to go there again. Total disaster. Very sketchy, but that's a whole different story. The only good thing that came out of that walk was Leunig's. Tremendous place. I ordered the burger, my son had the burger too, and my wife had pasta. Absolutely fantastic.
