My first time to Houlihan's, a very nice experience. Debi was my waitress, great customer service. It is funny how bad service can ruin a great meal, but there's no way a great meal can fix bad service... But I digress, as both she and the food were wonderful. I enjoy a waiter or waitress with a personality and a good sense of humor. She had both. My meal was excellent, more than enough to eat, great taste and great presentation. The burger was cooked to perfection, the bacon excellent and all the toppings fresh. Also the atmosphere there was very entertaining, quite a few people really enjoying themselves. I am sorry to post such a critical review of the service we recently received at your restaurant. Even more disturbing than the lack of common courtesy service is the fact that it seemed like no one in the restaurant was ultimately responsible or willing and able to help correct anything. I can verify that I was a guest here along with 11 others. We had all had a rough day and the first thing everyone asked for was a drink. One asked for a glass of Amaretto and our waitress insisted that the only thing she could offer was an Amaretto Sour. Things only got worse. I ordered a glass of wine and she asked me about the size, 6 or 9 ozs. since there was a price difference. I ordered the 6 ounce. Since our dinner took so long (and perhaps understandably so since there was so many of us), I ordered another glass with dinner. She did not ask the size but delivered a 9 ounce. I honestly didn't pay attention but ended up being upcharged. I thought it was a very tricky way of selling more, since the same thing was done to the person I was sitting next to. My salad was not what I ordered. I wanted the salad I had ordered because it had blue cheese. When I asked about there being no blue cheese, I was told the salad I had did not come with blue cheese. I reminded the waitress that the salad wasn't what I ordered to begin with but I could live with it if she could bring me some blue cheese. LOL - she brought me a small cup of blue cheese salad dressing. Yuk. No apology for getting my salad wrong. At this point, I was too hungry to return anything to the kitchen. These are just a few examples of how our entire meal mostly was. Not just for me, but for almost everyone of us. Nothing was right and no apologies. I asked our waitress to add another guest's meal to our bill. Guess what, she did not do it. My husband had paid so he was not aware that I had asked her to do this. This was a very painful end to a very painful meal. I understand that not everything is always going to be perfect, but my goodness, own up to it because as far as I am concerned, I never want to see the inside of your very gorgeous restaurant again. read more

I really enjoy eating at Houlihan's. As you know by now, I am a gluten-free foodie, and Houlihan's has a very GF - friendly menu. They even have a GF appetizer! Ate here with my hubby and really enjoyed the food, as well as our lovely waitress, Tara, who went above and beyond to provide excellent service. We had the Tortilla soup, and the Chicken Sandwich on GF bun. It was delish. My wheat-eating husband shared the dish and couldn't even tell the difference on the GF bun. We waited 30 minutes for a wait staff that never arrived. There were just a few customers in this huge dark restaurant. There were some crumpled paper menus on the table, the print on which was unreadably SMALL even when lighted and magnified with my phone. This Houlihans delivered service and food that warrants 5 stars . I was waited on by Jordan H who recommended a couple different choices that far surpassed expectations and I can fully recommend. I began with a Tuscan salad ... something different than mainstream and bursting with flavor and visual appeal. Sedona pasta shrimp followed and I can say that I would put this up against any steak house sea item in the vicinity. Perfect al dente pasta... an olive oil based shrimp dish with just a scant bit of heat and sweet tomato with basil. A homerun !! In Springfield... thank you chef and thank you Jordan !! read more

I ate dinner here in October 2018 while I was staying at the Double Tree Hotel attached to the restaurant and really enjoyed my experience. One of the hotel employee's told me Houlihan's is like an upscale Applebee's. After eating here I don't even they they are in the same league, Houlihan's is soo much better. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. They have a large variety menu, and a very cool bar scene. The restaurant had open air feeling with a basic low key decor. I had the chicken breast salad with a baked potato. The food was awesome. The quality was outstanding. Portion size perfect. Price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food you get. We had the most excellent dining experience here! I have some food sensitivities, so when I had issues, our waiter, Colby, immediately took care of switching out my salad, the manager, Stevie, came out to check and make sure they prepared the rest of the food so I didn't have any issues. Great service!!! The food was amazing. The risotto was creamy and delicious, the scallops were perfectly cooked, the steak was a perfect medium rare, they made a special order because the menu didn't have exactly what I wanted. The waiter suggested the compromise based on what I wanted, and it was perfect! My husband's stuffed chicken was also incredible! After dinner, we had dessert - totally worth it!! I had the best creme brûlée I think I've ever had. The caramelized sugar on top was delicate and perfect, the custard was fresh and light. My husband had the gooey butter cake with caramel sauce and I snuck a taste - know what I'm getting next time! We don't normally eat dessert, but it was a long day of work, and we weren't stuffed - even after dessert! What will bring us back next time is the service. We are in a service industry (health care) and we appreciate others who understand the importance of customer service. We live over 150 miles away, and travel for work nearly every weekend. I ordered the Korean chicken which was on pineapple fried rice and green beans plus a salad. My wife ordered the tomato bisque soup and a salad. The Korean chicken wasn't that spicy but was pretty good. The soup was really good and had some sort of cheese balls in it. The salad was the best part of the meal and we had a creamy balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Salad had corn plus bacon and tomatoes. Highly recommend the side salad! Don't waste your time you'll set a record for the longest wait for your food from the kitchen, when I asked for an extra cheese fritter I was denied one and I also asked for extra sauce on the meatloaf and was also denied and was told by the waitress that the chef is in a bad mood today. My husband and I stop here for lunch every time we drive through to visit family further north. It's conveniently located and other restaurants in the area, we have never had to wait for a table or service. It had been several months since our last visit and apparently they had just reopened from a remodel. I love the low lighting as I have very sensitive eyes and I prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. This visit I ordered the Kale and Spinach Salad with grilled chicken and a side of sweet potato fries. My husband got a burger with veggies and a house salad. Everything was delicious and about what you would expect from this type of restaurant. Our server, Tara was great. She was attentive without being bothersome. She was very accommodating and made us feel very comfortable with our choice. The only con in my opinion is the pricing. $15.75 for a decent sized salad and a small portion of grilled chicken is much higher than I typically pay. We gave this place one last shot...unfortunately, it was a special day! On Christmas Eve, it was a Sunday...we wanted to go out for a nice, special meal for the occasion. Our waitress was very lethargic and not very friendly. We placed our order and I noticed the BIG difference between the North Houlihan's and the South restaurant. The south location seems to have a better manager running the show. So, our Christmas Eve waitress kept going and just sitting on a bar stool in the bar area. I watched her put her hand in her mouth repeatedly and trying to get food out of her teeth. I wanted to leave, because I was disgusted. My husband convince me to just wait it out. The wait staff then all moved to a big booth on the north end of the bar. I think that they were celebrating Christmas Eve. I never saw a Manager during our visit. I was so upset that our food was brought out by this same waitress who had had her hand in her mouth for 5 minutes in full view of the dining room. Yep, she was touching my plate. :( YUCK!!!!!!! Twice in one week we have stopped after hours of traveling with two 3 month old babies. First was for takeout and the food was good enough for us to change hotels for the way home. If you haven't tried this place; it's time to get off your butt and go!! Tired the chicken parm, fish and chips, scallops, fish tacos, salads, and pot stickers. I regularly eat at Houlihans in different cities and states, it's a go to place when I'm traveling. This location has the least personable bartenders I've ever come across anywhere. I've eaten here 4-5 times in the last 6 months and every experience has been the same. Tonight I sat at the bar for 20 minutes and was never spoken to or greeted by the bartender, I walked out. Happy hour is awesome! Most apps are $4 albeit smaller portions. However, getting wings (which are delicious), a pork slider and French fries for $8 is fantastic! Drinks are on sale too and there are two sizes of beer to choose from. They also have a few TVs which is nice for following the high profile sporting events. Not really a fan of this Houlihan's, and I've given it multiple chances. It just continually under achieves, no matte how low I seem to set the bar. Starting off the service has always been sub-par, with my group waiting several minutes for our waitress/ waiter on nights that were not busy. then they would disappear for what seems like a eternity. On to the food, and honestly I like to start my meal with a drink. This is one of the high point for Houlihan's is their impressive drink selection. With that being said, I'm a beer guy an the selection of beer here weak at best ( actually the three Blind mice was fantastic). With a beer in hand we move on to the meal. I only go to houlihans for late night happy hour(after 9) & weekday happy hour (4-6). They have great drink specails espically on thier long island ice teas! The long island ice teas are delicious and they have a bunch of flavors. They have an ok selection of beer but I still find it pricey on happy hour so we generally always stick to the long islands. I like the georgia peach long island ! :) also they have super bomb chicken nachos!!! Without happy hour I think Houilhans is wayyy over priced. My first Yelp posting... Triggered by this one... Wow! I'm writing this from my table within the Houlihan's North location on February 26th, 2019. My son ordered two of the Small Batch Cheeseburgers from the kid's menu, plain, with no cheese (he clearly said, "just meat and a bun"). When they arrived with cheese (after waiting a little too long, but tolerable), the waitress apologized and offered to return with an order without cheese. We thanked her and she returned after about 7-10 minutes. We thanked her. Moments later, my son appeared disappointed. He said they still had cheese on them. I checked it out. Here's what I saw (attached pics showing a product with remnants of cheese that someone clearly tried to scrape off of this kids meal). Unacceptable practice! I have tried to like Houlihan's...I really have. I have eaten there three times, lunch and dinner both, and I am always let down. This last time, I ordered the calamari as an appetizer, and it was served in a tacky chinese take out box that did a fine job of soaking up all the grease. Not the best, which I should have guessed. Half rubbery calamari and half greasy breading...yum. I went fancy with my entree, ordering the club sandwich. Meat, bread, cheese. Easily done...until Houlihan's. I wasn't sure if the bread was supposed to be toasted, but it seemed like they only grilled one side of the sandwich--or just gave me a week old slice of bread and passed it off. There was the usual turkey and ham, nothing fancy. The bacon was disappointing, cold and bland. All in all, for ten bucks, I could make two or three damn good club at home. They also have a really hard time processing specials or gift certificates, considering how much they advertise entree and happy hour appetizer specials. It could just be a trick to get you to pay full price unless you catch it on your bill...for being a modern, trendy chain, you'll be disappointed. read more

Without being busy came in at 915 on a Monday night, still took about 5-10 min to get a drink and menu sitting at the bar. I had the side house salad which was good. The burger came out looking like a McDonald's quarter pounder, not impressed at all. The broccoli looked as if it was heated in the microwave yesterday. Bland, no taste, just blah, same with the burger. The same de of bacon and jalapeños consisted of 6 jalapeños.... and two burnt small... smallllll pieces of bacon. If you're looking for a burger save your time and money and go to steak and shake. I don't think I will be back to give it another shot unless desperate for food. Good luck if you try this and I hope your experience is better than mine. Update I tried again 1/29/19 service was much better this time however the food was blah. I had the bbq chicken flatbread. So, Springfield got a Houlihan's. Though I suppose you could consider this place "regional" (it's originally from Kansas City), it's your typical chain restaurant and comes off no differently than Applebee's or Ruby Tuesdays or any of the other chains around town. I ordered a house salad and the Tillamook deli beef sandwich. The salad consisted of lettuce, of course, but instead of normal sized chunks, it was shredded into very small pieces. This made it difficult to eat with a fork; a spoon seemed more appropriate. This also caused the dressing to clump up in different pockets throughout the salad, so I'd have a mouthful of dry lettuce one bite, and a dressing-soaked bite the next. The menu listed the beef sandwich as such: "Horseradish, Tillamook cheddar, arugula, watercress, and red onions on rye." For some reason, I assumed this would be served hot, like a Reuben almost. I was wrong. It came cold (as designed), with deli cuts of roast beef on stale brown bread. For the cost ($9.95!) I could have bought a pound of roast beef and two loaves of bread from the grocery store and made 15 better sandwiches. Really disappointing, especially considering the price. I can't think of a reason why I'd come back, or recommend this place to anyone. read more
