Attention to detail on our order selections and made several GREAT suggestions. I ordered the Meatloaf, which was the BEST meatloaf I have eaten highly recommend. The wine mushroom gravy was phenomenal of sweet and savory. My wife ordered the Navajo Chicken Pasta, which was fantastic. I was craving chicken fettuccine last night, So I called for take out. It was not good, tasted cheaply made. The noodles were over cooked and the sauce was bland. I believe I went here on a Saturday night for a quick drink and apps with a friend. I was surprised because it was extremely slow. We ordered the chicken lettuce wraps which was delicious. I'm not a big fan of sweet foods/drinks, but I definitely loved this app! We also ordered the Thai chile chicken wings which was amazing as well. Had a few drinks on top of that. The mango rum drop & a 1 liter pitcher of the top shelf long island. Both quite delicious. The first time I went to Houlihan's was around the dinner hour and it was definitely not my type of atmosphere. A couple weeks after that, I came back during the lunch rush and it was a completely different experience. I was impressed my second time around by the friendliness of the wait staff. It was the weekend before Mother's Day and they were greeting their regular customers with hugs and kind words. I was pleasantly surprised to see this! My waitress, Diane, was completely focused on making my experience a positive one. I had just finished up some certification testing and she genuinely seemed engaged in our conversation. I give Diane a full 5 stars! The lunch menu is definitely more reasonably priced, and I was pleasantly surprised by the steak salad. The meat was cooked to perfection (again, finding places that do well done done well is a rarity) and the pairing with bleu cheese, bacon, and asparagus was delicious. read more

We stopped through a week ago for a late lunch around 2pm. If it's cold outside and I come here I usually get the Pot Roast and that's exactly what I did. It was as satisfying as I expected, good creamy mashed potatoes, tender meat, and great gravy. Our group also split some calamari which was also good but not a very big portion, the dipping sauce is a nice tangy kind of ranchy bleu cheese goodness. Service has never been a factor in the visits I have made and it was again good on this experience. This location is nice in the summer since it has a big patio that backs up to the man made pond which is shared by Jakes City Grille and BWW. Houlihans reminds me a lot of Pittsburgh Blue like mucho reminder. The bar area, decor and even the booths are the same then I realize Houlihans has been around much longer so they may have been copied which is a good thing if you are being copied because that just means you are being liked. I always order a outrageous amount of small plates because they tell you 2 plates feeds one person but to be honest it feeds more maybe 1.5 people. I love their spinach salads, the fries are great, and the wings are bombdigity! The pitchers seem a little smaller than the average restaurant but thats just fine with me because its usually just my boyfriend and I where we want more than one glass of white sangria (sooo good btw) but can never finish a whole pitcher between the two of us without getting full to early, The smaller size makes it much easier to proportion our food out. The service seems to be alright depending on who you get that day the fellow that works late nights in the bar area is super while the one lady I got during a dinner rush was not so much! read more

I was just there on a Sunday (all day Happy Hour) and I would have given it a 4.5stars but our server was the worse I've ever had there usually we always get friendly service but this time our server seemed like he was ready to go and didn't want to be bothered. Good thing the Manager Jamie O. was there to save the day. Manager Jamie O. was super friendly and had some great recommendations like the Bleeding Rose cocktail (super delicious). I was there with a group of 7 women and we ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Our first orders came out flawless food was tasty and service was good but it seemed as though they had switched cooks because the second order of Calamari and Thai Chicken wings was overcooked but manager Jamie O. corrected the problem with a friendly understanding. Despite the service and food mishap I would visit again because the Manager, drinks, and most of our food was good and worth another visit. We used to go here quite often, mainly for the happy hour. The patio is nice and so is the inside. The menu is so old and tired. They seem to concentrate on cute, klitchy, little marketing slogans, rather than on good menu selection. They have some really nice servers, but, as someone else mentioned, the bartenders are not very friendly at all. They seem to have issues with the tap beer lines also, like flat beer, or sanitizer residue left in the lines or glasses. 2nd EDIT: Now, not even that great for happy hour. They uncomplicated southwest chicken wrap arrived without much chicken, no dressing or flavor and dried out wrap. My club soda had some other flavor in it. The waitress explained they were short-staffed, which I think understand. But then why is the hostess sitting in a booth reading a book instead of helping out. Needless to say, the price for downright bad food coupled with lousy service means I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

I seriously get cravings for the garlic ranch dressing that comes with the house chop salad. It is so creamy and sweet and garlicky and utterly delicious. I probably get take out at least once a week at work. They are fast and prompt with take out orders and have very quickly remedied and issues I had with them accidentally putting bacon on something I didn't want bacon on. This location has great parking options, a large dining area with a lot of windows, and a cozy bar area with a lot of tv's to keep you up on the latest sporting event or news story. The have great beer selections, fun apps and small plates, and scrumptious comfort food. The staff has always been very friendly and professional. I've never had a bad experience. Try the herb stuffed chicken and get the house chop salad with the blue cheese crumbles and the ranch (no bacon of course). ;-) read more

First visit and a birthday dinner. Suffice it to say, we were in a good and happy mood on arrival. Unfortunately, now I'm writing this bad review instead of eating cake with my date. The hostess was pleasant but ignorant of the b-day entree policy (http://www.houlihans.com/my-houlihans/eagan), and although one of us is disabled, walked us past several booths to seat us in the back. Per our check, our waiter was R. Z. (Sorry buddy - you seemed like a nice enough guy, and I'm guessing it was some combo of Houlihan policies/ training and you having an off night - but wow was our experience lousy.) When R. eventually showed up (10 minute wait, deserted section, dirty table - not ours, but in view, and it remained dirty for most of our visit) It was happy hour for another half hour (two drafts for $6, nice). But two beers were brought to one diner at the same time, so the second beer got warm. After talking with R. about wanting a "not too sweet" drink, he steered us toward a $9 Texas Long Island which was very sweet - and which we didn't drink. We also asked for water, which he never brought (but another server did when asked, which was nice.) R took our dinner and salad ordes, but didn't deliver them. This is a strange policy, as it meant that several folks, some in uniform, some not, dealt with our food. We never saw any of them more than once. I had a chopped salad with extra tomato and Ranch dressing for $6. It was fine. R forgot the extra tomato request - but yet another server brought them when asked. My date had the $6 goat cheese Tuscan bean salad with crispy toast. It was clear this molded salad had been assembled hours earlier, as it was stone cold. Presumably, this is so the molded presentation will hold - but unfortunately does nothing for flavor. The goat cheese amounted to about a tablespoon and was, like the beans and the toast, hard and cold. Between salads and entrees, two tables full of kids were sat on either side of us. We hoped that this meant we'd get more attention from our waiter, since he'd be in the area more often, but this wasn't the case. He walked past our table maybe 10 times, ignoring us, while serving one of these families. Water glasses and beers empty, Long Island untouched on the edge of our table, and he didn't make a single move in our direction. Salads were delivered by yet another server, so it's true to say that, once he'd delivered the adult beverages, our waiter never came to our table again until we waved him down (literally) for the check. At that point he offered to refill our water glasses - and did bring back. One. Glass. Of. Water. He asked about the untouched cocktail - but had no suggestions for switching it out or removing it from our bill. He also forgot about the birthday entree discount - so paying our check took 2 tries. We did get the discount ($15), but when you add the drink we didn't drink ($9), basically a wash and a less than impressive $50 meal. If we had seen our waiter more often, we might have ordered more. We'll never know. Entrees were delivered by - yes, yet another server. I had walleye with mash, $19 - good mash, but the walleye was strangely bland, and I eat a lot of this fish. It's mild - but not tasteless. My date had very gritty scallops with a bland risotto, covered with a handful of wilted arugula. It didn't look much like the picture. I really only go here for happy hour. There's not a ton of options in the area, but this is a good option now and then. They have 2-for-1s and food specials that start at $4. I believe they have an outdoor patio too, but I usually just sit at the bar since I'm usually only grabbing a few drinks and appetizers. Took Mom here for lunch and had a good experience. We started with soup- she had "Baked Potato" soup and it really did taste like one. The bacon in it really upped the tasty factor. I had the French Onion and they sure didn't skimp on the cheese! So far, so good. For once, we actually got to finish our soup before the entrees arrived- so their timing was perfect. She went with a French dip, which came with Au Jus and a ramekin of horseradish sauce. She really liked it and it was good for two meals. I had the Navajo chicken pasta which has bell peppers, onions and mushrooms in a roasted red pepper cream sauce. The chicken was tender and the sauce had a little kick to it. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portion was really big. The service was friendly and prompt and I'll gladly go back when I'm in the area. We were seated right away and someone came to take our drink order pretty fast. Then we had to wait at least 10 minutes to order. In fact we had to flag someone down to help us. She was nice enough, took our order, and then we waited again - nearly 20 minutes to get our food. We hadn't ordered anything that takes a long time, just a salad and a sandwich. When the food was delivered we asked for the check, and the server said sure, I'll bring it right away. But she didn't. After we finished eating we had to flag someone else to bring us a check. This is a go to place for my boyfriend and me. We love the 2 for 1 HH starting at 9pm daily. We haven't met a bartender that we didn't like. Rebecca is especially great! The bar is always pleasantly (almost romantically) lit and there's always someone to strike up conversation with. We've actually only ordered food once. We had chicken nachos. The $9 HH price gave us a huge order of nachos. The chicken was tasty and the value was great. We plan to come back for a meal once. We visited Houlihan's as a second choice since mad Cow was packed. We had two adults and six kids in our party. We waited FOREVER for our food. We were seated around 7:00, but the food came around 7:45. However one of the younger kids ordered a cheeseburger. That item was forgotten. The server had to put in a rush order. My niece ordered grilled cheese with tortilla chips and got fries. My son ordered Mac and cheese with fries but got fruit. The niece who had to wait another 10 minutes ordered fries on the side and got chips. All the food we ordered was tasty, but the service took way too long. The kids were supposed to get ice cream with their kids meals, and it was simply forgotten, and nothing was done to try to ensure our repeated business. Don't go here if you're in a hurry. The Bavarian pretzel appetizer was good, and it was lucky we ordered it, or the kids wouldn't have made it. read more

They consistently execute quality food. We eat here often, and order a variety of items. The goat cheese artichoke poppers are heavenly, the stuffed chicken decadent, the pot roast and meatloaf high quality, and the steak is quite tasty. We would prefer if the vegetables were cooked a little longer, they always have more crunch than we like. The corned beef and cabbage special this weekend was served with a wonderful creamy horseradish sauce that really transformed the food. Not too much to complain about for my first visit here! I guess if I were to have one, its be that the martini flights could be bigger. But as my friend pointed out, then it would be a regular drink! I did like that there were menu options for every price range. I tried the Roasted Veggie Flat-bread--- superb! I loved it. I also had the Avocado Chicken egg rolls too! SO GOOD! So my GF came here once on a girls nite out and reported it was decent. She's been trying to get me to come here ever since. I was craving a burger today so I finally caved. Glad I did! First, the burger. I just got their basic build your own burger with cheddar cheese. I ordered it cooked medium. IT CAME MEDIUM! good god that never happens in MN!! Burger was good. Kinda expensive but this is something I could definitely partake in a few times a year. Fries were good too. GF got a 62 burger, i think. It had a fried mushroom (which is also on their app menu) on it and spinach. She liked it. We got spinach dip from the app menu. It was spectacular. Top 2 spinach dips I've had in a restaurant, ever. Serious. We both gobbled that stuff up so fast the waitress probably thought we were starved for a week. You gotta try it. We went on a recent Tuesday night for Happy Hour. I noticed you can get a free app if you sign up for the email club, so I did. It was worth it. They also have some 2 for 1s on drinks. We had the lettuce wraps, bruschetta, and wings. The lettuce wraps were good, I didn't try the wings, but the bruschetta was excellent! It was goat cheese topped with bruschetta with spring mix/balsamic on the side. It was tasty and the crostini it came with was a good compliment. I came here for a work event during lunch. We had a private area for our company. There was a special lunch menu for our group. At the end, we each got a coupon for 15% off for our entree next time. I tried the pot roast and it was the best! This is why people should check Yelp before ordering. I was the only one of the big group who ordered the pot roast and it was mind blowing. TERRIBLE SERVICE! We sat there for more than 30 minutes before our server greeted us, despite us asking the hostess twice to send server over. Then it was another 25 minutes before she brought our drinks out. We were never offered refills and the food was not prepared well -- the cheese on my burger wasn't even melted. We were charged for one drink we never even got. The server was a space cadet and it seemed she couldn't comprehend that we were not pleased. I usually love the chicken sandwich at this place. Average lunch. Good lunch service, but average cocktail service (from a different server). I had a buffalo chicken salad with (substituted) french and bleu cheese dressing. The chicken chunks were coated and fried and covered in a buffalo sauce. They were flavorful and moist. The salad was served with a roll that was alright. My companion ordered their baked potato soup and the lettuce wraps. She was pleased with her selections. I tried a spoonful of her soup and thought it very tasty, although a bit too heavy for my tastes on such a hot, steamy day. I think I'd love a bowl of it once the weather turns cold and blustery. We ended up staying on after we finished our lunch because their Happy Hour began at 3pm! We each ordered a HH cocktail - she a "skinny" margarita, and I a mojito. Neither drink was "great", and both were overly sweet. Not worth getting a second round. A while later, I asked about the cost for a shot of tequila - such as Jose Cuervo (not rail liquor). Our server said it would be $6.25. Once we ordered a round of Cuervo Silver, our server returned and said they don't have that; instead, only Hornitos or Patron. We ordered Patron. Most resturaunts have a theme, like modern or a sports bar. Houlihans dosent know what it is. it has classic turn of the century mirrors and sports memorobilia on the walls. But the the menus are modern and trying to go for a minimalistic approach. The food is the same way. A high scale food in a sports themed place. I just dont feel right looking up to see a whiskey ad mirror and the Twins playing, then look down and see three stacks of various meats with pepper and mint leafs on the top. I want to see french fries, bug meaty burgers and round plates. Not this modern style. I appreciate decor, I love food...but I'm passionate about service. I arrived around 12:30pm with my 6 month old son in-tow for a lunch meeting. We were greeted with a smile, and seated. Our meeting told our server that we were in no rush - and she respected our input. When I needed to refill the bottle, the manager actually walked me to the restrooms!! I travel the city, and eat out frequently. This was one of the best lunch services that I've received in recent memory. The food? It was fine. The decor? Didn't notice. The service? We only go here when they have their 2-4-1's for their, otherwise overpriced, drinks during happy hour. All tap beers, house wines, and rails & calls are included (happy hour is all day on Sundays) I have eaten here a few times and the food is decent. But we usually get the appetizers if I eat here. They have a decent patio, too. The bartenders are not too friendly, and are only mildly attentive. Also, they will tell you it's last call and close down before their listed closing time if business is slow, basically suggesting for you to leave. I went for an after work beer (or 4) and some food one evening and had an OK experience. I figured it would be a typical sports bar but it seemed kind of "uppity" after I bellied up to the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and the fish tacos I had were very good - but the price was a little more expensive than I generally like to pay for a meal and a few beers. I walked out of there paying about $35 after tipping for 4 beers and 2 fish tacos.
