Took advice from a friend, had a delicious dinner. The Filet Was cooked perfectly. So tender and flavorful. The blackened shrimp, Delicious. The wait staff was very attentive, even took the time to bring out the chef to meet us personally. The decor, very welcoming and homey. Definitely would recommend this place and will bring our friends back with us next time. read more

Must be the day, but first impressions are everything, and mine was piss poor. Order items, not available. Order wine, wait 20ish minutes to find it it isn't there. Service was less than impressive. Big nope. read more

Well we went to the Hotel Sutter on a Monday night. That was a mistake for my order. I had the quinoa squash salad last time and liked it so much I ordered it again. They were out of squash cubes so I asked for a substitute vegetable. Not only did that not happen, but the cranberries and pumpkin seeds were left out. I asked for the brown bread but they sold out over the weekend. I should have sent the salad back. It was boring and flavorless. The rest of the party was happy with their food. read more

Ordered takeout Friday and it was AMAZING! Far exceeded my expectations and probably one of the best new yorks I've ever had. We had the Brussels for our appetizer which were delicious and addicting! I had a new york served with yukon potatoes, seasonal veggies and a really tasty sauce. We also had the lamb shank served with the same sides and we added side salads which were great and fresh as well. The price was perfect for the portions. We were so full and couldn't stop talking about how great dinner was all night. read more

Had a monster hangover today and walked down to the lobby bar for a burger - the Cal Fire burger was cooked perfectly , had the right amount of heat in the jalapeño relish and buffalo sauce , and really hit the spot - always a decent beer section as well, although today was an iced tea and garlic fries kinda day read more

This was our 1st visit to the Sutter Hotel Restaurant. I like that they serve local wines, but we chose not to order wine because we didn't recognize any of the wineries of the varietals that we enjoy. So, we started with the Sutter Style Naan Flatbread as an appetizer. Without mentioning anything to us until after we were almost through eating it, the waitress, Stephanie, had taken it upon herself to have the kitchen hold the tomatoes. All because my husband ordered his burger w/ the tomato on the side, which he does because it makes his sandwiches soggy. And, I happen to LOVE tomatoes, so I eat them & this works well for us. However, when we got to looking, not only were the tomatoes missing from the naan, but so was the arugula - I guess she decided we didn't need that, either?? And, before we could finish our appetizer, our entrees arrived.... Husband enjoyed the 1858 burger, & it was served w/ a generous portion of fries. But, he ordered it cooked Med-well, & it was very, very pink inside. Overall it had good flavor & was spicy, however the bottom bun was inexplicably all wet & falling apart, & the lettuce had clearly seen better days. I had the stacked Lasagna, which was o.k., but should be doubled in portion because it's not enough food (or calories) for $15 - a bit of sauce, 2 slices of overcooked eggplant, a few thinly sliced mushrooms, some spinach, I didn't see the caramelized onions - if they were there, & some Brussels sprouts that appeared to have been fried sprinkled around the perimeter. Additionally, the stacked Lasagna arrived w/ cheese & red peppers on top which are not listed on the menu, & I don't care for. Furthermore, I'd like to suggest that they consider renaming this dish "Thrown in a Bowl Lasagna," because it clearly wasn't stacked. All in all, I'm glad that we had a Groupon - which initially they didn't want to honor because I didn't print it out & they can't deal w/ "paperless." After tax, tip, & the Groupon, $30 was about right for this lunch. This would be a very different review if we'd had to pay over $50 for a lunch w/o ordering any beverages, salad, or dessert. read more

My impression each time is the service is not very good the food is okay but not for the prices they charge. Hoity toity...im local and have given this place several chances. But I do give them an "a" for Ambiance it's very pretty and the food is not all that awesome. read more

We went on the Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving and it was super busy but we were prepared to wait. The host never told us that the bar was first come and so three couples behind us were seated first. The bartender was slammed and it took about 15 min to get out drink ordered and then another 15 min before we got our drink. We received attitude after waiting patiently for our drinks and asking to order when we she had a chance. It seemed like it was understaffed and undermanaged. I hate when restaurants are ill prepared and undersupport their staff. They can do better. read more

This is another example of the poor service and food that you can expect from restaurants in Amador County. You're far better off eating at Taco Bell which has reliable service and quality food. read more

Definitely won't be back. Ordered to go and it took an hour for two salads and an order of Brussels sprouts. Got back to our room and put a blankie on the floor to have an indoor picnic. Opened the boxes to a hot mess. We ordered the wedge + steak (medium). The steak was 10 dollars extra. The preparation was horrible. The temperature of the meat ranged from day old asada to Raw at the ends. I picked around to find no good pieces to eat. Then the crab and prawn Louie. About 3 grape tomatoes cut in half 1/4 of an avocado sliced, a day old deviled egg 4 prawns (decent) and canned crabmeat over a box full of iceberg lettuce. Not good. Ate the avocado and some of the tomatoes. Brussels sprouts were decent at best but I guarantee they should not have been that "charred". I looked at pics and our sprouts looked nothing like other pics. They also didn't give us the lemon aioli that was supposed to come with it. Good think my husband likes them that way. We each had a drink. I asked for a Virgin Mary and got an "um sure I can make that for you." It was really good. My man had a Stella on tap. We were there an hour so she totally could have sold us more drinks but never offered. The bill was 70 dollars and most of the food is going in the trash. We tipped 15 bucks bc we are good tippers. The best part of the meal was we got to watch cake wars plus we got to see local celebrity Jim Crandall so I guess it was worth the trip! Oh the couple next to us were really nice too! I like the ambiance of this place but unfortunately the service is slow and food is mediocre. I have been here a few times hoping for something different but each time is the same. Food isn't terrible but it's nothing that makes you want to come back. I am hoping they can work on the quality of service and food since as a local it would be a nice place to take people visiting. read more

We went to this restaurant last night for a family dinner. A group of us went to the bar before the rest of us got there, and were treated really rudely by the barserver, a girl with blond hair with blue streaks in it. I'm not sure what her problem was, we got there, we wanted to start off the night with shots to celebrate a birthday, ok they didn't have fireball, that's fine. So we asked for some ideas on any shots, or if they had any shot specials, which some bars have (or at least some servers know). The girl was just so extremely rude, didn't want to or couldn't tell us any shot ideas, and then, when we ordered drinks, she went behind the bar and started talking very rudely about us to the bartender. I have no idea why she was so angry and rude with us, we weren't rude to her at all. However, the drinks the bartender made us were really good, I got a white linen and my sister got a berry moscow mule. Our dinner was good, and our server was very friendly. We had a good time celebrating with our family. My tip to Sutter Hotel- get a better server in your bar. That girl had a chip on her shoulder for no apparent reason, and it sucked to start our night out on that note. read more

We are staying in the hotel so we thought we would try the restaurant. Let me just say, the service is extremely slow. I had ordered wine which did not come so I had to ask again for it. I ordered the prawns and they were over cooked and flavorless. You get very small portions for the price. Overall it was a terrible experience! read more

Lunch with my husband on Sunday. Walked in and could see empty tables that had not been cleared or cleaned. Hostess cleaned a table for us and we were seated. No server for 15 minutes, and the hostess is seating three other tables right around us. And.... you guessed it, when server showed up he took the order from the table who had just been seated and then left. No acknowledgment to the other tables in his area. So.... We left. We do not plan on going back. read more

QUESABIRRIA TACOS. 'Nuff said! (currently a special on Thursday nights). GET THEM! NOTE TO SUTTER RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT: these SHOULD be a staple on your regular menu. They're ASTOUNDINGLY GOOD, a truly INSPIRED culinary creation. The dipping consumme for the tacos was just right, and be sure to ask for a cup of their house-made onion pickles to ADD to your tacos for an OVER THE MOON flavor and texture sensation. Husband had their Burrata ravioli (finicky, understated and reserved, he was moved to tears while savoring every bite--and that's saying something). We shared their Wedge Salad ALSO amazing, just the right amount of dressing and discovered those fabulous pickled onions! BIG KUDOS to our server, amazing gal, who anticipated our every need, brought little extras, went above and beyond to make our anniversary celebration very memorable. An A+++ from us! See you again SOON, Sutter Restaurant. read more

Living locally, I was curious to try the hotel restaurant after the major renovations. The owners have done a great job in the renovation; the dining room is a really nice room with much of the old Sutter Creek charm. And the food was excellent. My companion and I enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts appetizer. I had the lamb shank on white bean stew--meltingly tender lamb, excellently flavored white bean stew, and the sugar snap peas and baby carrots accompanying them were cooked crisp-tender. My companion enjoyed the flavorful bratwurst and delicious sauerkraut. Dessert was a rich pot de creme au chocolat and a wonderfully good panna cotta. The prices were reasonable and the portions generous. There were nice small touches on the table--the pepper was in a real little peppermill for freshly ground black pepper. The bread was good, and the butter was whipped unsalted. There was also a dipping sauce of excellent olive oil with a little chopped garlic, a little lemon zest and lots of chopped parsley. A nice change from the usual oil and balsamic vinegar. Service was only fair. The waitress brought dessert, but we had to make a bit of a fuss to get spoons to eat the dessert! Also, it took a long time to get cream and sugar for the coffee and we never did get spoons to stir the coffee--ended up licking the dessert off our spoons and using them. Still and all, if it's wonderful country food in a beautiful historic setting, the restaurant in the Hotel Sutter has got to be high on your list. I will certainly return. read more

Had a great meal at the Hotel Sutter! Our plans fell through at the Union Pub (because of poor planning on their part.) I really wanted to love this place. Friendly staff and patrons but it took forever to get my food. An hour and a half for scampi fettuccini? Really? The food was good once I got it but the kitchen needs work!!!! read more

Bar staff is solid as was the dinner service. We were a party of 10. The stir fry, lamb and hamburger were apparently good. 5 of has had steaks. ( Filet and rib eye) You know your in trouble when it's difficult to cut with a steak knife. The dab of blue cheese butter they put on top should melt right? Nope, steaks served room temperature as were the side dishes. The bacon wrapped on one practically raw. Several steak entrees barely touched. Poor quality. Far from a $35 steak. Crab cakes, not so good. Normally I would complain but we were running late for a show and my confidence that they could turn around another one within 30 minutes was low. read more

The Hotel Sutter is a shiny gem in gold rush country. My bf took me there for a romantic birthday dinner. Our original reservation was for Saturday night; when we called an hour before to reschedule for the next night, Sunday, the hostess was very helpful asking us if we preferred one of the prime window tables which overlooks the boardwalk along the main street, or a more private table in the corner. You first walk into the main entrance of the hotel, the restaurant is to your left and the bar to your right. I wish we had known to allow extra time before dinner to have a drink in the bar. You enter it through a sliding barn door type opening and the front wall has floor to ceiling accordion windows which open onto the boardwalk. The bar was busy and the energy was good/fun but not rowdy. We were seated without delay, our table had a reserved sign on it. Even on Sunday, at 7PM, the restaurant was pretty busy, I'm sure we wouldn't have gotten that table without a reservation so be sure to request it in advance. I had the lamb shank with these delicious potatoes like I have never seen before, kind of half mashed with lots of texture, they were so good I ate them first, then the vegetables, squash I think, were perfectly done and melted in my mouth. Yum. Oh Yes, the lamb shank was succulent too. For dessert we shared a decadently delicious chocolate cake with a scoop of melting ice cream on top. Nicelle was our waitress- very attentive and on top of things. Wow, superior dining experience but my bf rated 5 stars too.. If you need to score, take your lady to the Hotel Sutter restaurant, read more

There are flies buzzing around the restaurant and I saw the table busser taking away dirty plates and then bringing out bread. Yuck. A busser who handles garbage should not be serving food. My water glass was dirty, the bread they served was stale. We weren't terribly impressed with food quality, I just hope I didn't get e.coli here... do not recommend. read more

Love this place! Drinks at the bar are the bomb-diggity and love sitting upstairs on the patio. Bartenders are fun. The restaurant is excellent as well. Highly recommend!!! read more

Luckily we had a Groupon for our Dinner, way overpriced for what you get. We ordered Ribeye, which came with cold mashed potatoes, Bourbon Glazed Prawns, that had no glaze, and very bland rice, the best thing was the green beans, a little disappointed, with not much to choose from in this area, they should step it up a notch. Also husband asked for bread, and was given sliced white bread. The service was good, the atmosphere is nice. read more

My husband and I ate the most incredible meal here: the portobello burger and the bacon burger were cooked to perfection. In 1965 my parents car broke down while on their first date. They wandered into Sutter Creek and had dinner at an Italian restaurant located in the Hotel Sutter. They married two years later. My siblings and I decided to have a low key, family only 50th anniversary party for them and decided to do it at the site of their first date. From start to finish the Sutter Hotel staff was amazing. The event coordinator was super nice and got everything set up just the way we wanted. The food was delicious; I understand they have a new chef. I was super impressed. It is in a very nicely maintained beautiful old building. My dad (who is not sentimental usually) said this was one of the best things that has happened in the last 50 years. I am not sure how to take that personally, but it reflects well on Hotel Sutter! read more

I hope ownership reads this...... My family and I will never spend another dime in your establishment and will certainly make sure to spread the word. Overpriced for low quality food: Pop pie was a joke, no filling, small and burnt. Side salad, only thing I can say is "gross". 1853 burger was nothing more than an undercooked Carl's burger, why Sacramento magazine suggested I will never understand. New York steak, extremely Gressly and the only taste was of burnt char from what I can only imagine is an extremely unclean grill. Flat bread, extremely dry chicken with so much garlic it was inedible. Wine and cocktails took 40 minutes to arrive and we're not what we ordered. Extremely slow service, waitress appeared to be too busy complaining to what look like regulars. To the manager that kept walking by, but would not make eye contact. You had a chance to save this experience and you didn't, you knew we were unhappy. You did nothing to remedy this situation, so now you can read my experience here. How far Hotel Sutter has fallen, take my advice and spend your money somewhere it is appreciated. To the management, poor poor performance. read more

I don't know why we come here(3rd time), the service has always been poor, today was 11/2hrs, before we got our meal andt was cold. Slow to get water refilled. Potatoes stiff as a board etc I wish I could have something positive to say Okay there is the company we had, they are perfect. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Hotel Sutter. The service was great and very responsive to all of our needs. We made a reservation and they were ready at exactly the right time. Food didn't taste bad but pretty pricey for very light portions. Probably won't come back. $15 for small appetizer? Lunch salad served in a cup had barely anything in it and chicken pot pie had maybe two bites of chicken. Disappointed. read more

Nope. Just nope. The interior is great and the restaurant itself is beautiful. If only the customer service matched it. We ordered a beer and wine and my boyfriend got the beer right away but it took about 20 minutes to get our wine ONLY AFTER we had reminded our waitress again. Then our food took about 30 minutes even though we had a simple order. Our waitress didn't seem to care. Our food was good which gives way for the two star rating instead of one. read more

My husband and I were in lovely Sutter Creek at dinner time and found the Hotel Sutter Restaurant. It was a Friday night and of course busy and full. We didn't want to wait for a table, so we took a table in the bar area. We ordered the crab cakes which were just delicious: best I ever ate. Not fishy and just yummy! We both ordered the shrimp and crab salad and it was well prepared. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the noise level: if you like to yell over dinner, this place is for you. That is a complete turn off for me. The dining area has no carpets or table cloths and I'm assuming it would be just as loud. Tasty food if you can tolerate the noise level. read more

With a wonderful atmosphere, this restaurant is a must. The portions are very generous and the Mac and Cheese with bacon appetizer is a must! Service was ok; food was awesome! I had the bacon cheeseburger with onion strings and it was cooked perfectly. I like my meat really well done and the chef pulled it off. The garlic fries were incredibly flavorful. I used a Groupon that included dinner for 2. I paid $55 for the Groupon and the check came to $70. It included an appetizer, 2 meals, and a glass of wine each. The open air dining room adds to the great ambiance. BTW, they were out of many menu items, maybe 15% of the menu was not available. read more

Pretty disappointed. This is the third time I've been here recently with horrible slow service. We waited over an hour for our food. Most of it was a wrong when it came. This review is for dining experience only. Our friends who live in Sutter Creek made reservations in person on Friday for Saturday at 5:00pm. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our reservation and the gentleman greeting us could not find our reservation. Our friend explained they were in town and made the reservation with him, he then said "Oh it was for 2 right?" and we said no 4. He then said okay I can seat you...as we were walking to the table he asked me "So what time was your reservation?" Really?? Did he not believe my friend. As we were being seated he is basically tossing the menus in front as he is stressing that they are very busy so if workers are running around us its because they have 140 people reserved for that night etc..etc..REALLY??? Was that his way of saying hurry up, order and leave? Regarding the food...We all agreed it was pretty poor. The Brussels Sprout appetizer was very tasty. The meatloaf was good but the vegetables were so hard and uncooked and the mashed potatoes were so bland, no flavor at all. The salmon again good...but the potatoes au gratin were hard and uncooked just like the mixed vegetables. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese with shrimp and crab appetizer as my dinner. I had visited Nicks Cove and had a similar dish and ordered it hoping it would be just as tasty. So disappointed. I wasn't expecting it to be the same of course...but it wasn't good at all. It had more mushrooms than seafood. Filled with mushrooms. I searched and found 2 small pieces of lobster, 2 shrimp and maybe there was crab, but I couldn't find any. Every one tasted, no one liked. I spent $14 and ate maybe $3 dollars worth. And back to the greeter person. He is the most unprofessional person I have ever witnessed trying to run the front of the restaurant. He had those poor servers running in circles. We were so distracted with his clapping of hands, literally pushing servers. I honestly can not believe he is allowed to put his hands on the servers. He was grabbing their arms pushing on their backs, when he wanted them to go faster I guess. And those young men and women stayed professional and smiling the whole time. It was so hard to ignore his craziness during our meal. He is a wreck! Its a beautiful place...the servers get 5 stars for putting up with that type of work environment. Everything else is a huge miss. We will not be returning. read more

I came in yesterday (Monday Sept. 28th around 330-4) for appetizers with a friend after wine tasting and was told to "quiet down" by the bartender. I work in the service industry so I know that customers can be challenging, but telling two of 4 customers you have, to be quiet because they are laughing is not acceptable. We weren't drinking in their establishment, being vulgar, or interrupting other tables so I don't see a justifiable reason for the way we were treated. I am giving two stars because I loved the look of the hotel and our food was good. Very disappointing when you try to support your local businesses and get treated badly by someone who clearly shouldn't work in customer service, let a lone a bar where people tend to actually be loud and obnoxious. read more

While the restaurant is lovely and the staff were nice, the service was poor and the food wasn't even. The mussels were quite good but I didn't take more than one bite of the beet and kale salad. And the server didn't ask why. Most troubling, my husband's Ruben sandwich came withour sauerkraut. When we finally got someone's attention and asked why we were told they ran out. No apology and no offer of a replacement dish. I don't recommend this place until they train their staff better. read more

Loved this place when they first opened... atmosphere for days and great to see a face lift in these sleepy foothill towns. Unfortunately the quality of food and service dipped and after multiple tries we decided to give up on Hotel Sutter. Food was inconsistent and service was subpar to say the least. That is until the new event coordinator Becky told us to give them one more chance. Reluctantly we agreed and I have to say that I couldn't be more pleased. Chef Albert is a beast. They offer the staples and a great twist on classic cuisine. Chef Albert is a true culinary genius. STEAK POUTINE? YES PLEASE!!!! They still have some glitches to work out but after meeting with Chef Albert, I am confident that he will have his team functioning like a well oiled machine in not time. Best quality food at the best prices. LOOK OUT TASTE, revival is coming to the Mother Lode!!!! Keep up the great work guys!!!! read more
