This place was a cool boutique hotel. Service is pretty good and they have a very modern design. They offer complimentary craft beer to their customers in the evening. The bathroom was kind of small and there are no bath tubs. Room is small, but chic nonetheless. The bar in the hotel is okay. Service could be better. The lobby also offers gumballs and nice variety of teas. If you come in February, you can take advantage of the museum card event. read more

We have mixed feelings about this hotel. We stayed for 4 nights in mid-July 2023. The staff is very friendly. We were in one of the largest rooms with a king sized bed. The room was very comfortable. The problem was with the bathroom. It was one of the worst ones we have ever seen and we have stayed in A LOT of places in the US and in Europe. First of all, you had to step up to get into it which was very strange. We could barely turn around in there while using the sink and we are not big people! (I am 5' 4" tall and weigh 122 lbs.) Do NOT stay at this hotel. We recently stayed at this hotel for one night. A few days after our stay we discovered a charge of $900 from the hotel separate from the room charge. We inquired about the charge and the very rude and condescending director of front office informed us that the tv in our room was broken. We used the tv before we went to bed and left the room the next morning with no issue. The only proof is a picture of a broken tv but no time stamp or proof it is was in our room. They are trying to scam us out of $900 for a tiny tv they couldn't even resell for $100 even if it was in perfect condition. Outside of the scam the room was tiny and the bathroom smelled disgusting. We stayed at the Max 5 years ago. Our experience then was good. Unfortunately, the hotel has declined considerably and is not worth staying at. Critically, for a hotel in a tech-savvy city, the hotel claim of inclusive fast internet service is false. The capacity is so limited that one struggles to get on the internet, then waits endlessly for pages to load before they time-out and leave you looking at a blank screen. The hotel staff has no solution for this and although we tried to different server points, neither was any good. Materially, the hotel quality has declined as well. The door to our room did not close fully and had to be pulled or pushed closed on leaving or entering the room. This is a clear security issue. The desk chair was broken and did not sit level. When my wife requested additional pillows, they were sent up without pillowcases. Finally, with the closure of the restaurant next door to the Max, the hotel now sits in a food desert where it is impossible to find breakfast without a long walk from the hotel. - My boyfriend and I stayed for a night here in order to go to a ball game and upon arriving, the front desk told us that we needed to either park on the street or have their valet park it in their secured garage. We picked the secured garage because of the price difference. Little did we know that we know that upon receiving our vehicle back, it would be scratched down the back side. It has been a very long time since I am back in Seattle visiting my best-friend. He recommended that I would stay here at the The Hotel Max. Right as we checked in we were offered a cold beer. We said "Thank You" that was a nice welcome. The front desk staff were all very nice. We went to the room and it just like in the lobby the room was very checkie. It was clean, the bed and pillows were very nice. I would come back again. The only one thing that could of been better was that, there was no coffee being served one morning. I asked if there was any more coffee and the front desk person said "We ran out from our inventory" . I would hope that they would of put some Orange juice or give a token so that I can get a cup. I was very disappointed with my stay. I had both called ahead twice and Facebook messaged weeks before my stay about parking. I was told it was first come first serve. Thinking that like all the other hotels I've stayed at in Seattle that it would be ok, I wasn't too worried about it. Day of my stay, I call ahead to check on parking in the morning. I find out then that for the entire hotel there is only 17 total spots. 17. None were open yet. Was told to call back around noon. I call back at noon (keep in mind I'm missing the event I came to Seattle for to deal with this) and two spots are open. For the entire night! I rushed out of my event to get into one of these spots. When I eventually found the garage (completely unmarked for the hotel mind you) I pull in and PHEW! There's a few spots open. I'm in the clear right? I get to the front desk where I inform the lady there that I'm parked in the garage. I'm told I can't park there. Im told that people have pre-booked the parking package with the room. Despite having contacted them so many times before. Never offered a package to pre-pay for. They've basically effed over my entire trip. My friend and I had to park in an open air lot overnight in downtown Seattle over the nights we were there. I was terrified the whole time the car was going to be broken into or stolen. I wasted nearly an entire day of my event dealing with this. The room was lacking in amenities. There was no coffee pot in the room to heat water. Would have liked a cup of tea in my own time. There was no menu for room service. They take a long time to respond to texts. When I called the front desk to bring up a cart for luggage, I was told they were both in use (they only have two?) And that when they were available they would be in the lobby (basically come down to get it yourself.) Went down to see if there was one yet, there was. Took it up to my room, but my key wouldn't unlock the door anymore so went back down, and in that few minutes amount of time someone took the cart. Maybe invest in more than two for your hotel. That's just sad. So I hauled my luggage down piece by piece. No one to help. You're a hotel, you're supposed to create a pleasant stay, not make it harder. The positives were the room was decent if not small- beds were comfortable, room was relatively quiet. They gave an extra hour for checkout without a fee. The staff at checkout were decent. They held my luggage. That's what the two stars is for. There was mold in the shower though too. Overall a pretentious vibe from both hotel and staff. Yikes. Your free beer and gumballs don't make up for the issues. Stay somewhere else that cares more about your experience than their hipster looks. read more

NO INTERNET! they do not have internet. They tell me they have issues with their provider and apparently they still rent the block of rooms knowing they have issues. The have two networks but both are down. They do not offer me an alternative not a date when this will be fixed. Very disappointed in the infrastructure and in the service. I asked to speak with the manager but they told me he is aware and do not need to talk to me. There is nothing they can do. Needless to say, I am not coming back not recommend it to anybody in particular for a business trip. I like staying at boutique properties in cities I visit because they usually have a point of view about the city that you wouldn't find in, say, a typical chain hotel. The Hotel Max celebrates Seattle's local art and music scene vis-à-vis some provocative photography emblazoned on the doors and paintings on the hotel room walls. It's a handsomely appointed hotel which is right downtown, and close to a major metro station, interesting restaurants and cafés, and the nightlife. My room, unfortunately, did not have hot water but this was readily remedied by the cheerful and accommodating folks at the front desk by moving me to a different-- and bigger-- room. Stayed here during some company travel and like others I didn't really like the hotel. I understand that the location may make the hotel compromise on space, but this was just ridiculous. I had no problems with the staff during check in. However my coworker did. She had booked the room through a third party like me and the gentleman at check in just told her it's not in the system and wasn't too sympathetic to try and help. It was only after I stepped over that he started doing some investigative work and found her reservation. I do have one comment to add, whatever cologne/ air freshener they spray in the lobby makes it smell like a Hollister store. The whole mini hotel thing was cute at first but got old quickly. The elevators can only accommodate 2-3 people depending on how much luggage each person has. Me and my coworker had 1 personal item and 1 carry on each and we couldn't fit an extra person in. The room was small but I can deal with that. The bathroom is where I had issues. You have a super skinny glass shelf that runs the length of the mirror to store toiletries. It doesn't help that after you take the shower the glass has condensation and all your stuff literally falls off. My shower head did not point where I wanted it to so I was pretty much showering up against the wall. The room has a minibar and smacks in the fridge. However, there are no prices on anything so I'm not sure how much anything cost. This was a very frustrating aspect of my stay as well. Also as a side not for any out of town visitors, you can expect to pay approximately $40 per day for parking near the hotel. I will probably not be staying here if I visit Seattle again. read more

While the location and front desk service was excellent, that is really where the good part of this hotel stay ended. The wifi is so atrocious, I couldn't load google maps on my laptop. The shower is a standing stall that is too narrow to lift your arm in. Ditto for the elevator, which can only comfortably fit 2 strangers, which meant lots of waiting in line to get upstairs. There was extremely dim lighting in the room. The sink was at angle that I couldn't refill my water bottle and there was no free water offered. The restaurant is gone which means no room service, though they say they still offer it on their website. I stayed for 6 days and not once did housekeeping come and give me more toilet paper or towels, even after I asked for it. Those are my grievances, really just not a great place to stay. I wish I would have gone a few blocks away to the Hilton, which was about $20 cheaper per night. read more

Quite noisy, but centrally located. If you're a light sleeper, I honestly can't recommend this hotel. However, if you sleep like the dead as I do, keep reading! The walls are thin; my neighbor had a regular volune conversation that I could slightly hear (though muffled). Stewart st seems to be a busy thoroughfare for sirened vehicles. However, as I said, I sleep like the dead. My bed was very comfortable. Heavy comforter like a weighted blanket made me nice and cozy. Bathroom is a little tight. No special frills in the room. However, Hotel Max is in a great location. Just a few minutes walk from Westlake Center which has the light rail and the monorail. This hotel has a great location with regards to seeing downtown sites. However, rooms are really small and somewhat dated. This is clearly a company that bought an older hotel with really tiny elevators, tiny rooms and even smaller bathrooms and tried to add "W" rock star throwback kitschy elements to improve the look of the rooms without doing massive renovations. There is a really good well-lit parking lot across the street despite it's downtown location where parking is almost always impossible. The bar attached is overpriced for its offerings. This hotel is really close to Amazon -land so it also has that going for it. I think I would be willing to pay between 140-165 for a basic room (assuming Seattle isn't hosting a massive convention the days you are looking to book). If Seattle is packed with visitors, I can see paying $185-200.00 or so just for the location. read more

I love this place, the rooms are not big but the staff was amazing! We didn't have a car so we walked and used uber/Lyft. They have happy hour with craft beer that is free. The location is great. Stressful from the onset. It began with check-in for our 4-night stay, when we were told we'd have the two beds we asked for, but the next day, we'd have to pack up and move to a different room. Why? They were overbooked and because we used Hotwire instead of booking directly with them, we'd have to give up the room. What rubbish is this? Also, the initial room had no microwave or hair-dryer, such very basic amenities, even in budget hotels. Acting so generous, they waived the "upgrade"fee for the next room, but our new room was worse in many ways. Instead of two beds, the "upgraded" room was now a one-bed room with a saggy sofa pull-out bed, featuring a dumpy mattress that must have seen better days. Floppy and lumpy, it was just miserable sleeping the rest of our stay. What adult wants to sleep on that? None I know of. It was also placed facing away from the other bed, so it made for really awkward conversations and even getting around the room was just a nuisance because it was so crowded. Couple that with the oddly placed shower that flooded the tiny bathroom when showering, this place was just a bummer all the way around.The staff were polite, but it felt like they really didn't give a hoot about the comfort of their guests. I couldn't help feeling they were caught up in the cheeky decor/vibe of the place to concern themselves with the actual job they have: making sure guests get to relax and enjoy their stay and that they have everything they need in their room. I was here in Seattle for a work event. The room was decent size and the location was amazing pretty close to everything except my event which I did purposely so I could enjoy Seattle a little easier. The issue I had was the fees I paid there they were outrageously expensive and unfortunately didn't come with any specific need for the fees. There was no microwave in the room, no parking (I had to pay for parking everywhere), no gym, no pool literally nothing that equated to the amount I paid for. So unfortunately won't be going back since it was way too expensive for only the location of the hotel and a decent size room. Just doesn't seem worth it to me. read more

I gotta say, I love boutique hotels. I don't stay at them as often as I'd like though. I spontaneously decided to come to Seattle for one night this weekend to visit a friend and we found a last minute deal with Hotel Max through Expedia. PRICING: Thanks to the last minute deal + expedia points, it was about $150 for the night. But before the expedia points, it was about $200. Which, in comparison to a lot of other hotels in downtown Seattle during a busy summer weekend, is a great deal. Other places we were looking at were $350+. ROOM: I loved the room we stayed in. We luckily were able to get upgraded to a bit of a bigger room with a city view. The bathroom situation was a bit interesting since there was one room for the bathtub and another room for the toilet + sink. I'm guessing this isn't common in most other rooms because we were chatting with another couple in the elevator and they mentioned that the bathrooms were very tiny and the tub + toilet + sink weren't separated. BEDS: This bed was super cozy, but doesn't take the comfiest hotel bed award in my opinion. VIBE: Hotel Max is swaaaaannky. It almost felt like I was staying in a modern cosmopolitan hotel in NYC. I loved all the decor they had in the rooms and lobby as well. Fun, modern, and cool adult vibes. LOCATION: Very central, right in the heart of downtown. Less than 10 min to Pike Place, less than 10 min to Cap Hill, coffee shops + restaurants close by. Prime location. WIFI: Free + fast enough for what I needed. SERVICE: The staff at Hotel Max were so kind and accomodating! Check in and check out was a breeze, valet service was easy peasy, room service was quick, and when I called down to the front desk to inquire about a fridge key, they sent one up less than 5 minutes later. Enjoyed all the staff members I encountered! + Elevators are fairly small. There was a group of 5 of us in an elevator and even that was a tight, tight squeeze. I wouldn't bring too many bags on this trip if you're staying here! + They also have board games which you can borrow down in the lobby. + Oh, and they have a free craft beer happy hour from 5:30 - 6:30 in the lobby! Definitely not your average hotel. Hotel Max is definitely one of the most modern hotels I've ever stayed in. Their bright red front desk in the lobby to the strange black and white pictures on the doors of each room, to the modern furniture in each room... it was actually borderline eerie at times. But they do have some cool things! They have a pillow menu where you can request what kind of pillow you want! Like a really soft fluffy one or a really hard one. They also have a spiritual reading menu with different books according to your religion. Very unique! It's also in a very optimal location because it's in the middle of downtown, within walking distance to many of the department stores, Starbucks, Pike Place market, drugstores, as well as a lot of the delicious Tom Douglas restaurants nearby! There's also Red Fin, a sushi restaurant right next door with a good happy hour. We rarely had to drive out! My only complaint was that there's no free wifi. You have to pay for it nightly. Judging by the size of the elevators and rooms, my guess is that this is a very old building. Bonus charm! The floor we stayed in had some construction going on and the rooms being worked on had the doors open and that was unnerving a bit. We quickly found our room and immediately loved the view of downtown Seattle. The rooms have large loud clunky heater/ac units in the windows. We turned ours off because it's was so loud and the room still stayed warm. The black out shades worked perfectly!! The bathrooms are snug and honestly the room is probably only suited for a single person staying for mire then a couple of nights. If I was looking for a place to end a romantic evening without spending a bunch of money, this would be perfect. Has all the necessities for a quick stay. I'm giving this place a 4 star because my room wasn't as clean as it should have been. After being pumped up about the "upgrade" it was a let down to see dirty handles in the room and bathroom. The lampshade looked like it had been kicked or back handed a couple of times.. but I was still overall happy with my stay. And I would even stay again. I slept we'll all 3 nights and that is so rare. We reserved the Modern King Room and it was a king. The staff was friendly and super helpful. It is in the middle of all the major sites! Easy access to EVERYTHING. When we come back we will probably stay here again! The rooms are small, but we got that impression when we read reviews before we booked. I stayed here since the location was close to work but kinda pricy place to stay. I was shocked how old everything was, paper thin walls, sockets that couldn't hold any plugs, horribly laid out doors so you couldn't exit unless the bathroom and closet doors were both closed. I absolutely loathe blackout shades so either you had no window privacy or you couldn't see when the sun came up. I guess the best perk was the bed was comfortable and the doors where amusing... otherwise yeah skip it unless you don't need to sleep well or just need a bed to crash on. read more

We stayed here 2 nights specifically because the hotel web site said they had J1772 EV chargers. Their pre-arrival instructions said that we were to inform the front desk upon arrival that we had an EV. I would give this hotel zero stars if we could. There were a litany of issues: * Charging station was empty but already reserved. They said they reserve it for 1 car for 24 hours, so even though it was empty, we could not charge. * No EV or non-EV parking available in their lot. Front desk said to park across the street in a public lot. It was $49 for 24hrs and did not have a charger. (Read some of the other reviews the parking nightmares at this hotel.) * At check-in we were not told the wifi password * They did not tell us that there is coffee available in the morning. I learned this this after walking 2.5 blocks to a coffee shop. * Front desk told me to see about the EV charge spot "after some EV guests check out" at 7:30AM the next morning. Mercifully they had checked out so I was allocated this charging spot for 24 hours. I then discovered after 30 minutes on the phone with ChargePoint that the station was not connected properly so neither I nor they could start charging. (I have a ChargePoint account). ChargePoint said this particular problem was solely the responsibility of the hotel/property manager. Front desk said "sorry" and they would "report it to engineering ". (It did look like the Tesla chargers were working but I cannot verify this.) * ChargePoint said 2021 7th (Amazon HQ) was the closest. I went there; parking is $21/24hrs (half the price of Hotel Max's parking or the lot across the street from the hotel) AND charging is included with the $21 parking fee. * Room was small and weirdly laid out. Heater/AC unit was incredibly noisy * We were warned there is a $22/night "amenity fee". On top of this there was a $100/night damage deposit. * Wifi signal was weak and would sometimes just drop. After checking out I got a promo email of all Provenance hotel properties. Couldn't find anywhere to provide feedback. Although the front desk staff was very nice, this was a terrible experience. We pressed them for compensation and they did agree to wave the $22/night amenity fee. Our sum total of apology was the one "sorry" noted above. DO NOT STAY HERE. read more
