NOTE: If you've seen/read my other reviews you know I commend great service when it occurs. This place though, well, I can't possibly do the same.
This is for a stay in Feb 2018
Let's start out with the positives. I can't rate this hotel zero stars because it's not a DUMP. And it does offer a BED, which is better than sleeping on the street. They keep the lobby tidy.
It goes horribly downhill from there, at least as far as my stay goes. I've seen better Motel 8s in my lifetime.
I stayed in Room 407. The room measures about 140 sqft (INCLUDING the washroom). The fan in the washroom turns on but doesn't exhaust the horrible smell that lingers from I don't know what, it's musty and reeks of old rotting "dank something" - This building is clearly old and has been converted/given a facelift and called a hotel. Evidence abounds: the electrical wiring is exposed and sits in electrical conduits outside the walls. The fire department's mandated fire extinguisher extends from the wall and then upwards ending in a water dispersal spout. Even the light and fan switches are radio style, likely dating back to the 70s. They must have thought, it fits in with the "BOUTIQUE" theme. No, it doesn't.
The walls are so paper thin I can hear the conversation next door very clearly (as I am sure they could hear mine when I was on my conference call). The insulation is all the worse because my room faces two buildings. The buildings are very close (~75 ft away) and so you can literally see everything happening (or not) in the rooms (these are office bldgs). So I had to close my roll down blackout canvas shades.
Even when I did that, there are VERY LARGE (INDUSTRIAL SIZE) exhaust fans at the base of these buildings (3 of them each measuring 10ft in diameter) so the stench and din from those fans penetrate the exterior walls that are supposed to insulate my room from the environmental exposure.
And that darn filter in the room, which is inserted in the WALL-MOUNTED Air conditioning unit does not work. The wall mount unit does not fit the entire window, so they added a laminate of some sort to cover the rest. Noise and thermally proofed? NO & NO!!! Thin? Yes!!!!
In fact, I found out when I turned it on that the A/C unit makes this ridiculously loud sound in the room, and to top it off, the "Filter Change" light is on, which clearly means it requires maintenance; and judging by the amount of dust it was spewing, that maintenance had not been done (in how long, I do not know?!?!).
Now, you might think, hold on, did I call the reception and ask for changes before he wrote this review? Yes & Yes. And here's what happened...
I was told by the person who had checked me about 30 mins earlier that they would get back to me shortly. Their response came within 1 minute, and I quote: "There is nothing we can do about the noise of the built-in A/C unit. What we can offer you is a refund of the room and you can find accommodations elsewhere". Now there's a real attempt at customer service for you folks.
Had it not been the fact that I was interviewing the next day, and I needed to get some rest (likely not even good) prior to that, and the fact that I do not wish to get caught with another surprise elsewhere, the interviewer was paying, wishing not to create the wrong first impression, I would have taken them up on their offer and left.
Wait, that is what I ended up doing. I couldn't stand it 2 hours later, and I called the interviewer's travel mgmt agency company and we found a room at the Hyatt for $25 more. I got the refund and left. The person at the desk who provided me with the refund receipt, and who was not he person who checked me in, was very courteous and apologetic.
Recently, I had called a travel mgmt firm. You know how they sometimes ask you to wait to answer a survey at the end of the call. The speed with which the question came on compelled me to wait, and to top it off, they asked ONE question only. The question was actually REALLY GOOD for a change. It was: "On a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being DEFINITELY, and 1 being ABSOLUTELY NOT, would you hire the person you just spoke with for your customer service?" I had called three times, and I had given a rating of 5, 4 and 4.
In the case of this hotel, if I were asked an analogous question, my answer to you would be: As a LAST RESORT only. It's better than sleeping on the street in Seattle.
I hope this serves as a warning to other folks considering staying here. read more
