My wife and I spent three nights at Hotel Marisol for the first time last week as an early wedding anniversary celebration, and we enjoyed it enough to consider the hotel again for a future stay. As other reviewers have commented, it is immaculately clean. Service is very friendly. And it's a low-key, boutique atmosphere conducive to those who are looking for a peaceful, historic place to stay. Check-in was very simple, and we had the option of taking the short set of stairs to our room on the third floor or the historic 1926 Otis elevator, still in operation. We took the elevator, as we had luggage, and alternately chose it and the stairs throughout our stay. Our room was well-appointed, clean, and comfortable. And when I say comfortable, I am referring mainly to the amazing bed--one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Once I fell asleep, I was out like a light until morning each and every night, which I cannot say very often when I travel. Our room had plenty of drawers to use, a small armoire for hanging clothes (which also contains the safe and beverage cooler), and reading lamps above the nightstands on each side of the king-size bed. One chair with a high back was in the corner. Plantation shutters concealed the window, which you can open to let in fresh air because it is nicely screened. The hotel has no balconies, so it is nice to at least have a window you can open. During our stay, you could hear a lot of construction noise from renovations taking place next door as well as the noise from a lot of military aircraft landing at the military base, but none of that took place during sleeping hours. Besides, if you've ever been to Coronado before, you really get used to the military flights, which are more interesting than bothersome most of the time. We're just glad someone is defending the country. :) The bath area had a nice sink and plenty of space on the counter and underneath. The shower was roomy and modern, though the half-length glass wall did allow water to leak out quite easily, as many of these modern configurations do. We took part in the delicious continental breakfast downstairs each morning, took advantage of reading in the comfortable courtyard, and also took in the Friday night wine-down with free wine and charcuterie board. Everything was done so well, and it was nice to chat with a few other guests. Housekeeping was done daily, and two Ghirardelli chocolate squares were generously left each time. Not much to complain about. Very minor things: One morning, the breakfast was refreshed a bit more slowly than usual, but it was completely understandable because only one person was handling that and the front desk at that time. The shower head in our room wasn't working completely right and could have had a little bit better water pressure, but it was no big deal. And the reading lamps were a little loose and also extremely hot to the touch, so just be careful handling them if they've been turned on for any length of time. We never watched the TV (though I did turn it on briefly for a few seconds, and it had a great picture and sound) and never turned on the heat or air since the weather was so temperate. The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly and fast. All in all, a great stay that we truly enjoyed. We didn't qualify for any discount this time around, but the hotel's website does offer some discounts if you book ahead, so I advise you to keep an eye on that. I know that we will! read more

I can't say enough good things, from the free breakfast which was excellent to the free use of bicycles (didn't use this trip) and beach chairs (which we carried to the beach 2 blocks away), the bed was perfectly comfortable... Staying here for spring break this week and the hotel is wonderful. A quaint and charming hotel with just 15 rooms. Old elevator that you can operate. Comfy room and luxurious bedding that's better than The Del. Lots of extras like a wholesome continental breakfast, cookies in afternoon, and chocolates on your bed. Just absolutely stunning! We loved everything about our stay- from the chocolates and hand written note upon our arrival, to the simple but good breakfast in the morning. The courtyard was a tranquil and gorgeous spot to sit. Our room felt so clean and well kept. I loved everything about the simple decor and the beautiful bathroom. The bed was extremely comfortable! We highly recommend the Marisol!!! It is in a great location, just a quick one block walk to the beach or to the main street in Coronado with all the food and shopping. Well kept vintage hotel . 1929. Classy and clean . Stayed two nights here . The area is clean and safe . Staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good . Everything is with in walking distance , food shopping etc. The beds we're comfortable. There is public parking on the street only, but it's safe and close. We will be back ! read more

We absolutely loved our stay here! We had 1 night without guests while visiting SD and decided to give this boutique hotel a try. It was perfect. I wish we had taken advantage of the beach cruiser rental but we pretty much walked everywhere. At night, it was quiet enough, though a small group of couples staying at the hotel took advantage of the courtyard & were a bit noisy! The continental breakfast was perfect for a quick bite at check out. The only downside was that the contactless check in & electronic key never worked for our trip & we were able to take advantage of the free drinks that came with our trip because we were so tired. But we'll definitely be back! read more

Beautiful hotel. I didn't stay here but we did walk the grounds. The hotel has great outdoor dining areas with a beach view. We would have grabbed food there but it was a weekend and the place was packed! Next time. The hotel is undergoing rennovation as well as an expansion so a lot of what we explored was under construction. But once it is all finished the hotel is going to look amazing. There is also a lot of nice shopping across the street so we had quite a busy outing. Apparently there are places inside the hotel that are a free museum. Explaining the history of the hotel. That will be on our agenda next time we come and visit! read more

Quiet and comfortable. We came here mid-October, so perhaps it was the fact we were not here during tourist season (it's also The Year of The Wuhan Virus), but we never heard a sound from outside our room. Loved that! Staff were very friendly and accommodating (thanks, Hannah). The room was very nice (though smaller than most hotel rooms), and the a/c worked like a champ, and the bed was very comfortable. This is an elegant little jewel of a hotel. Everything about it is charming and first class. Comfortable rooms with free waters in the fridge each day, plush towels, newly decorated furnishings, hair dryer, robes, complimentary bicycles and beach chairs. One block from the beach and two blocks from the Del Coronado Hotel complex. Beautiful secluded patio with plenty o seating. The staff was wonderful. They baked cookies every evening, had berries and yogurt for us each morning with Coffee, Fresh juice, granola, oatmeal, etc. Old fashioned Otis elevator from 1928 with scissor gate worked perfectly. Fantastic boutique hotel - we got a junior suite discounted with their Spring sale and it was totally worth it! It's a historic yet updated and cute hotel and love the fact that there are only 15 rooms so you don't get any noise or disturbances (we were on the 3rd floor). The junior suites are located on the corners of the building so you get a lot of windows with shutters and light into the room - generally we loved this but might be a bit bright for those that like "blackout" curtains in the morning even with the shutters closed. The suites also have a separate shower and a jet spa tub. The jet spa tub was amazing as it actually blows strong bubbles as if you're in a hot tub - the only downside is that it's extremely loud and we were worried our neighbors would hear it! The room is spacious and has a sitting area with a pullout couch and a side chair. Location is so convenient and within walking distance to lots of great restaurants for both coffee, breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner. It's also only about a block away from the beach. We were able to rent for free bike cruisers which we took around the island. They have a light continental breakfast that they just started with instant oatmeal, some pastries, coffee/tea, hard-boiled eggs, and fruit. There is a small courtyard area that you can hang out at. Parking was also very convenient (maybe because it was an off-season); although there is no separate parking structure or lot, there was neighborhood street parking that was pretty easy to find and we were able to move our car to a spot right in front towards the end of the night. There is a loading zone for 2 spots where you can temporarily park your car for checking in. Hostess and housecleaning staff were all very nice and helpful. They also have a refillable water drinking station which makes it extra convenient to refill your bottles without having to buy more water! All-in-all this was a fantastic stay and would happily come back! read more

I stayed here with my pup. This is a beautiful hotel. Very clean and just beautiful. I love how close it is to everything. Staff is very nice! I docked a star only because I had a room by the stairs and on the ground level which can be a bit noisy at times. And there's no dedicated parking. But overall it was a wonderful stay. My wife and I stayed here during our wedding and cannot speak highly enough about the staff and our overall stay. The 1920s elevator is super cool and the rooms have been recently renovated which was a nice touch. When we got back from our reception we had a ton of leftover food and gifts we needed to store overnight in our room. The night staff was kind enough to help us with carrying all the items up to our room with us which was much appreciated as it would have taken forever without them!! The hotel's continental breakfast is also pretty good. Had we stayed longer, I would have liked to loan out some bicycles and ride around the island. I guess I'll save that for next time! P.S.: I recommend booking a third floor room for maximum elevator enjoyment and a nice view. read more

TL/DR - Better than the Hotel Del Coronado. Some might like the idea of overpriced, crowded and worn out accommodations. If so, the hotel del is your ticket. BUT - if you want an intimate, quiet, convenient, luxurious, and friendly environment then look no further. Even over the July 4 weekend, amidst the crowds literally everywhere else, the Marisol was absolutely serene. The place was fully booked (all 15 rooms...) and still I rarely encountered other guests. Whether eating breakfast in the lounge, relaxing in the garden, or playing around in the ancient elevator, I seldom saw anyone else. And the location is perfect - literally a one minute walk to the main drag, maybe five minutes to the beach, and just a few minutes to the hotel del (restaurants, shops, etc) - you're in the middle of it all while also just off the beaten path. Interested in exploring the island? Don't drive! Just take one of their bikes (Free!). The rooms are on the smaller side but expertly and tastefully appointed. All questions and requests were immediately addressed by hotel staff. Do yourself a favor - break away from the pack, skip the hotel del, and treat yourself to the Hotel Marisol! Beautiful little boutique hotel in the middle of Coronado village. We just happened to discover this hotel on Expedia and fell in love. The hotel staff is so sweet and friendly! The hotel is beautiful and so clean! Our room was beautiful. It's close to the Main Street of Coronado as well as close to the beach. They provide bikes and beach chairs to their guests. We rode our bikes with the backpack beach chairs to the beach. I would fly back from Texas just to come here and relax. read more

Very pretty place. Great location for Orange Ave restaurants although I wish the beach was a little closer. It was only a short walk away but it seems a lot longer if you are carrying chairs and the like. Outstanding service by the staff. Excellent breakfast choices as long as you are not expecting omelets. They pretty much offered everything else. Make sure to grab a bottle of vino and sit in their courtyard in the evening. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars was that the room and the bathroom are both on the small size. read more

My wife and I stayed here this past weekend for a local staycation and had an excellent experience. Hotel staff was amazing and very helpful. They offer a well stocked continental breakfast, complimentary beach cruisers and various beach going equipment. Everything is so close to the hotel that it is no problem parking your car when you arrive then walking or riding bikes to everything. Plenty of great restaurants and shops close by. The room was meticulously clean and everything was spot on. Maid service was prompt in the morning as we went down to the breakfast and done upon return. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

The location is perfect; it is just off the main drag and close to all the shops and restaurants but quiet and serene inside. If you want lots of action, stay at The Del. The room was was just perfect - clean & cozy and the bed was like laying on a pile of clouds - it was the perfect place to call home for a few days. Currently staying at this cute hotel. Nice location on Coronado close to downtown and Hotel Del Coronado, but parking is a nightmare! They do not offer any parking for guests and it's mostly 2 hour parking around the hotel so I've had to move my car three times, which is extremely inconvenient. read more

My family and I stayed here for a week and I over heard the assistant manager being very rude to one of the employees and heard the assistant manager the following day saying how petty she can be towards any employee and get away with it! This is horrible to have a person working for this hotel. I even asked the manager for her name she said it is Leah. So with that being said I will never stay at the hotel again! read more

We stayed here for the Valentine's Day long weekend and we cannot speak highly enough of this hotel. The aesthetic, the staff, and the quality of the experience are everything you could hope for. Located in the quieter area of Coronado island, it's walking distance to a lovely array of shops and restaurants. Out suite was beautiful and we arrived to chilled wine and local chocolate truffles. The front desk staff truly went out of their way to accommodate our every need. Taylor was especially helpful during the booking process and making sure we got the room we wanted and she arranged it beautifully upon my boyfriend's request. The staff even helped him get a hold of a beautiful vase to put the flowers he got me the next morning, then gifted it to us as we left. This has been such an amazing experience, from Valentine's Day cookies, to hotel bikes we could take out, to a room that was so thoughtfully prepared with treats, masks, and hand sanitizer, there is no doubt that we will be back! read more

My husband and I recently spent a three day weekend here. We have stayed in different hotels around Coronado before and I have to say that this was one of the best. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. The hotel is close to the beach and tons of dinning. We really enjoyed their beach bikes (free to guests) and used them to explore the harbor area and bike to the beach. One item to note is that this hotel is adults only. We have a toddler but were not planning on taking him with us--however when we booked the hotel we did not realize this. So just giving potential guests a heads up. Also, the only parking available is on the street. While street parking can be free if you find the right spot, it can also be slightly tricky. Overall we had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend the Hotel Marisol. read more

Wow!!! Love, love, love this place. What a find. Cute, quaint, super elegant boutique hotel. Perfect for romantic little getaway. We especially enjoyed the garden/patio area. Very calming and perfect place to relax and unwind. We also enjoyed the coffee and fresh muffins in the morning. Lots of nice details like fresh flowers in the rooms. They even have bikes you can borrow to see the town. They also have beach chairs you can use. Everything is walking distance. Very centrally located. They even let my BF drop off champagne and flowers the day before to have set up in the room when we arrived the next day. They offer bikes for free so you can ride around the town and see the sites.
