I attended a wedding at Luce Loft and love the downtown, industrial vibes here. The venue itself is made for smaller weddings (ideally less than 100 people). The loft gets flipped so it doubles as a ceremony and reception space with cocktail hour taking place outside or in the long side area. What's great about this place is that you could hire a food truck to provide cocktail bites on the sidewalk. Inside the loft, the space still felt spacious for a reception. There is an upstairs deck area where the couple had a photo booth set up. Personally, I love a city-vibe wedding. I love when a couple can get street shots and any after party can happen in the downtown. I know that vibe isn't for everyone, but if that is yours, you should definitely check this venue out. read more

As the name suggests, this is an event space with high ceilings and a loft! It's a lovely, sort of modern industrial or rustic event area with ample space for a small to medium sized event. Two all gender restrooms are available. There's a separate section where the bar and buffet can be set. We had a very short timeline to get everything done and he assisted in every possible way he could. Bryana did a great job with logistics and the wedding was a huge success because of these two great people. As far as the venue goes, this was a dream spot for our wedding. The rustic look and feel along with the lighting, created the perfect environment for our gathering. Pictures were AMAZING. The venue itself is spacious, comfortable, fun, easily accessible with a parking structure across the street and has 4 restrooms which is a huge advantage when it comes to weddings. I attended an event last night, on December 2nd. It was a wedding. Most of the bad reviews about this venue have to do with people requesting a deposit refund but any good review is mainly about the beauty of the venue, location, and how they worked with their client, keeping in mind that the decoration, catering, music, and furnishings are all vendors recommended by Luce Loft but not their responsibility. If a list of vendors from last night could be provided I would be happy to review each one on this forum. For Luce Loft it is not an ideal venue. There is no waiting area so guests who have to stand on the street exposed to passing citizens and traffic. Their service must come from a kitchen next door and the very large 10'+ front door must be left open for servers to bring food and clear services. This means that like last night it was 68 degrees in the loft during the day and as night fell it dropped to around 60 with no heat in the loft and a number of guests in low cut dresses without wraps or coats available. The very large door standing open insured that the temperature outside would be the temperature inside as well as the street noise of passing cars which was no more than 20' from the wide open front door. The venue has two "toilets" and no changing rooms. One toilet is up a flight of stairs. The doors on the toilets had locks that were inoperable so lots of embarrassing events led to having to guard the door as each guest used the toilet. As you would expect, there was an accident where a guest threw up in the downstairs toilet and made that "off limits" with nobody to clean up...the only service in the venue is what you hire and prepare for their role which does not include toilets cleanup. Be forewarned. The band area is very small and the acoustics are horrible. The space is so small that they could not calibrate their equipment and the music and speakers were continually plagued with feedback, rumbling, and high pitched noises that could not be eliminated or controlled...microphones in front of speakers, etc. Once they got up to performance speed, it was impossible to talk or be heard anywhere in the venue. The venue is small enough that the wedding ceremony (we estimated 35-40 people) had to be broken down and chairs moved to clear the dance floor and placed at the banquet tables...vendors aren't going to complain...Luce Loft is a market-maker and brings them plenty of business referrals so what's to complain about? Because the bar was upstairs, the guests had to navigate the stairway sometimes on two or three martinis and travel up and down the stairs in order to get more....a deterrent to drinking?...didn't work very well...but it did at times crowd the stairway with people waiting to get up or down. My recommendation for this location...never try to have more than 25 guests at most and only schedule one or two musicians to play guitar and piano quietly. Get a local caterer with tons of experience and good reviews who can serve food from heating tables inside the main dining area and keep the front door closed and in winter get some space heaters. Otherwise your guests are going to remember this as a big fiasco, quaint but very cold and loud. read more

If you are looking for a DIY venue where you can bring your own catering & booze- look no further. This venue was a dream- I had my eyes set on this for 2 years before I was engaged and it was our first stop on our venue tour list! I immediately feel in love and the convincing to my fiancé began to assure him 150 people could fit comfortably.. I was a little nervous myself but the venue manager was certain this many people fit and have done it a hundred times over. I was really holding on to it working since this was for sure where I wanted to get married...Well I'm SOOO glad I did- everyone fit comfortably and it was a relief to see everyone in this space! We had our ceremony in the main space and then originally had planned to have the cocktail hour in the smaller space behind the wood door while the main space was getting flipped. Well the week before the manager called and was a little nervous about doing it this way so we switched gears and had the cocktail hour at bar basic which was literally right across the street from the venue. I was bummed about this because I didn't want people to have to leave but it turned out to be a really good plan and if I had to do this over I would have always had the cocktail hour at bar basic. When the space was flipped, the main area was the reception area and the smaller space was where we kept the bar & half the area for catering. Originally I had thought this would be a good way to save money since it was a DIY space. It ended up costing the same amount as the wedding venues we toured that were all inclusive and charged per head. The main difference that made it all worth it for us was that we were able to literally pick every little detail including the catering & the bar which were our hot buttons. The space was so intimate and romantic with the lighting, the concrete walls, the metal stair case and the large windows- I would do it the same way again! read more

Its officially been a month since my wedding at Luce Loft and I can say that it was beautiful BUT , the morning of the wedding they let me know that the AC was broken. It was a HOT day in the middle of July..... The AC broke the night before , we got no type of notice for us to be prepared. They provided fans but they were not help at all. My decor included candles so you can only imagine how hot it was. Getting ready was just so uncomfortable because of the heat. They weren't seem very accommodating even after the wedding and it was such a bummer because we loved the space. People had to keep stepping out from the heat , all the doors had to remain open, and being in downtown that dangerous and uncomfortable having people keep peaking inside and homeless people passing by constantly. Not very happy with our overall experience , but the space is nice. read more

We originally booked Luce Loft/Luce on Kettner back in early 2020 for our wedding venue and were scheduled to have our wedding on September 5, 2020. Shortly after paying our deposit and dumpster fee we reached out to the owner Zack regarding Covid affecting our date and were told we could still move forward with our wedding date as promised. As the date grew closer we knew that we were not going to be able to have our wedding on September 5th as originally booked and reached out to the owner Zack Nielson regarding our concerns around Covid and our wedding. We shortly after requested a refund in full for our deposit and dumpster fee totaling over $3,000. Zack then replied that we could choose another date to have our wedding, we did not want to change our date and ended up eloping out of state with a small group of people due to Covid. We have since reached out to Zack Nielson multiple times and he REFUSES to refund us OUR MONEY! I can't believe here we are 3 years later and have not received our money that we saved for our WEDDING! Absolutely deceiving as we feel like we've been lied to and stolen from. Absolutely disgusting business practices... all we are asking for is our mere deposit and dumpster fee to be reimbursed back to us for an event that never took place at your venue due to COVID something that was completely out of our control. Absolutely do not recommend this venue per our experience with Zack Neilson and this venue as a whole. In response to Zack's Reply: We initially were considering using the venue for a future event possibly down the line due to the fact that Zack would not offer us a refund of our money and he stated we had to use it towards a future event. We have since then sent multiple messages asking Zack to simply refund our money as we do not wish to use the venue... consider this another attempt for Zack to do the right thing and refund us our money. read more

Not only is the venue gorgeous, but the staff went above and beyond making our event such a success. It was a last minute 2-day corporate event and I was alone in the planning process. The team was MORE than gracious with their time and assisting me with all my needs (and I had a LOT). They had a list of suggested vendors and I was able to book furniture delivery/pickup and AV through their suggestions and they were great! It is a wonderful venue in the best location. Mesmerized by the industrial-rustic-romantic vibe of this events venue! First time I step into the Luce premises, I thought I was entering in the house of an artist (actually that was last year and I had the feeling the artist was indeed living there, creating downstairs and having his bed/bathroom upstairs. Last night I attended a beer-food pairing event and my friends and I were totally enchanted by the atmosphere, the setting and the event itself. The historic building from the 1920s is really charming and even though does not look that big, I was counting the people and we were more than 100! I also like the space upstairs and the view you can get. The layout seems perfect for parties of any kind. I would love to be invited again to any other event at Luce. read more

Luce Loft is the best!!! We had our wedding here last night (March 26th) and I cannot stop thinking about how perfect it was :). The venue is stunning and the staff is out-of-control on point! It was the perfect size and style for our party and all of our guests were super impressed because they had no idea this little gem existed. The space is in the heart of downtown near Petco Park and super easy to access. Because the architecture of the building is so beautiful, we only had to do minimal decorating. The little kitchen area was perfect for our caterer and the bridal suite was clutch for keeping our belongings and even giving us our own bathroom during the event :) The layout was perfect for our DJ, bar and photobooth and there was a great flow to the space. Shawnta Wiley, the venue manager and wedding coordinator, killed it!!! This woman is a total badass who helped us so much. She is super professional but also super friendly which made me feel relaxed and ready for the day. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HAVING HER DO YOUR COORDINATING!!! I say this in all caps because I am a total alpha and thought I could do everything on my own because we kept our event small, but people...do not do it yourself because Shawnta can do it 100 times better and you'll have your sanity at the end of the night :). Our company did their holiday party here this past December. Luce Loft is a modern venue for things like wedding receptions and company events. The exposed brick, exposed wooden rafters, open-air room is trendy and provides a great backdrop. For our event, seating was in the main room lower level with a photo booth set up on the floating loft. Caterers were able to easily set up shop for a drink bar downstairs and serve buffet style food in a separate food prep room sectioned off by a barn door. The only complaint I had was that the bathroom situation was weird. It seemed that for the entire venue, there was only one bathroom. It was upstairs in a giant container. Inside, the bathroom could theoretically fit six toilets. Instead, it was one open room with one toilet. There was a line for the bathroom all night and each person had something to say about it. read more

Luce Loft was perfect for my March 2018 wedding. Zack and Ali were easy to work with and the space allows you to create any environment you want for your wedding. Note to brides: Figuring our the seating layout can be a bit tricky in the space. My wedding planner ended up helping me figure out the final layout. I had MIHO cater my family-style service and they needed the entire side loft adjacent to Luce for setup and prep - so I couldn't use that space for anything else. I had my ceremony and reception there and had cocktail hour next-door at Harvest by the Patio while the space was flipped. Happy to answer any questions for brides and grooms thinking about renting the space. I highly recommend! read more

What a gorgeous unexpected place! I was invited to an awesome beer dinner here, there was probably 40-60 people there-and it was all set up beautifully. The table settings were stunning and it has an upstairs loft section which was used as a lounge for networking post dinner. I don't know who they hired to cook for the 5 course beer dinner but everything was delish, the servers were pretty good-definitely kept my setting cleared and were super attentive. It's got a cool urban vibe, combined with some warm wood elements-It'd be the perfect place for an intimate reception or private birthday party. It looks like there was plenty of prep space in the back for private chefs. Not much info can be found on the website but there's a great image. Zack has been awesome to work with booking the venue, questions, etc. Paul was our house manager and was on point! He helped with setup and cleanup, wedding shenanigans, and anything else you needed. The venue was perfect for our DIY non-traditional wedding and it came out beautiful. All of our guests raved about the location, the venue, decorations, food, staff- everything. It was truly the perfect day. We had around 125 guests, a few long seated tables, scattered belly bars, a photobooth, DJ, Bar, cheese table and dessert table and there was enough room for everyone to mingle, dance, and be comfortable! I've been walking past this place and peeking my head in for a while now but have never had the chance to attend an event until last night - what a treat! Miller Coors hosted a beer and food tasting, rented out Luce and invited about 60 of us to get our eat and drink on. The big communal tables were ideal, the lighting was dim, photographers used the loft to get great shots of the room and the entire space was tastefully decorated with flower arrangements and some classic Coors memorabilia. Seems like this would be a perfect venue for an anniversary party, a wedding reception or if you want to throw a baller birthday party. read more

We held our wedding at Luce Loft on 10/9/21. To our guests it was unexpected - the venue is unique, industrial, just...super cool. We enjoyed the ability to customize everything since you externally hire vendors. The owners were easy and straight forward to work with. Beforehand, my girls and I enjoyed the bridal suite getting ready. I love the downtown location and the proximity to nightlife for your after party. We had our June 25th wedding here and felt it really captured the urban vibe we wanted, moreso than any other venue in San diego. It is in such a great area and completely walkable if you stay at the Indigo hotel. We thought the entire night was so fun. It just lends itself to a memorable night what with the cool architecture and loft space. We turned the loft into a lounge game space (for the kiddos) and rented out the 1041 space for cocktails. It was the perfect space for our intimate wedding (90 guests) and really has a special creative vibe that cannot be replicated. I know our vendors enjoyed working out of the space which was also a huge plus. We didn't want another cookie-cutter wedding factory space, and because this is essentially a blank canvas, it will give you a lot of freedom to make the wedding yours. read more

This was my first time working at this venue, First of all, the venue is amazing, and has some pretty awesome features. It is a black space which for a wedding planner like myself, it allows for creativity and flexibility in designing the space. Second, the staff at the Loft are professional, experienced, and very helpful. Thirdly, the location is awesome! right in the downtown San Diego, next to the Petco Park, this venue is perfect. Making it easy for the couple and their guests, the location has many options for restaurants, hotels, and and bars. Working with Zack and Paul was so easy and they were always very prompt in responding to my emails and questions I had. The times we met at the venue with my couple, Paul was there. Paul was very helpful in the planning of the room set up and how things can work out in the space. It was great! The day of: Paul was on site, and he was there to help me with some initial set up, flip of the room from ceremony to reception, and breakdown. He is a hard working and passionate. I was so impressed by how hard he worked, and how much he cared to make sure the event with seamlessly. I really enjoyed working with Paul, and he made my job easier and there to answer any questions I had. I LOVED working at Luce Loft and the wedding was so beautiful! I can not wait to do more weddings at this venue. Luce Loft is a gorgeous blank canvas for events! With 2 restrooms (one even has a shower!), a full kitchen equipped with a large refrigerator, and one narrow storage area towards the back it was a very easy space to work in. Plus, there's an Ace Parking structure directly across the street on the corner of 10th and J. They were able to give us a discount on parking for my event. Zack, the Luce Loft representative, was the best. He's attentive, knowledgeable, and quickly responded to all of my emails. The guy is tireless! The venue itself brings half the ambiance but to add even more my cocktail party featured a photography exhibit upstairs and downstairs, a bar on each floor, and a fun DIY photo booth. I had to accommodate nearly 200 guests and we all fit perfectly -- mostly standing room only, of course. My guests loved the space and had a blast. Many had never heard of Luce Loft before and I was proud to have been the one to introduce them to this downtown gem! read more

I hosted a surprise birthday party for my husband at Luce Loft and I can't imagine the event at any other venue. Aside from having all of the amenities that are needed for an event such as available bathrooms, kitchen space, storage room, parking lot structure across the street and perfect location... the place is so much more than that. Luce Loft speaks for itself, it's not like one of those venues where you walk in and you find yourself inserted in a completely white square. The Loft has a personality of it's own yet it still holds the versatility to use the space with any decor style that one may need for the event. It's openness, earthy tones and wood finishes are beautiful. Our guests had enough space to interact with the different spaces offered by the setup. They would walk from the kitchen, upstairs to the bar and then maybe take a seat in the back area, this made for a better night for everyone since the place allows for interaction with other guests and that is what really makes up the experience of an event. Everybody had an amazing time. I highly recommend this place for any type of event, I have seen photos of weddings that have been held there and they have been amazing as well. The loft looked very industrial. The pictures show it well. You'd have to invest in everything. maybe not so much the lighting. A note to a potential client. Depending on how many people you invite, the price of renting the venues changes. So becareful on how many numbers you present to Zack. Facts: Party must end by 11:30 pm and everything must be locked up and shut by midnight. I believe he gives you the key for the whole day for your set up. I found two other venues a few blocks away still good location, that were substantially cheaper. His rental price is higher compared to them. Same concept with the space and bring your own catering etc. He doesn't seem to care if you want to rent the place or not. read more

We just held our wedding at Luce lofts and it's such an amazing venue. Zack and Paul are great to work with throughout the whole process. And we even had rain on our wedding day and had to move our outdoor ceremony into to Luce. Paul and our coordinator helped move tables, change chairs, etc. so that we could take down the dinner set up, create a ceremony fully equipped with an aisle, and then once that was over reset for dinner. Love the flexibility and most of all the attitude. Paul was so happy to help to make sure everything was perfect. He even tried to help my MOH calm down a little before her speech by joking around with her. So cute. Lastly, when you come to load up all of your event decorations the next morning Paul is there with coffees to help cure any feelings you might be having from over indulging the previous night ;) Seriously the best wedding venue in San Diego. read more

We got married at Luce Loft in December 2015. From the very beginning the Luce Loft staff were accommodating and very helpful. We were able to add the additional side 1041 J to the main Luce Loft building which was a nice touch. We wanted to hang lights and they added that on to our package. The most important part of this rental is that is it 24 hours and you can really customize your event exactly how you want it. There are not a ton of restrictions with vendors, which makes it very because you can actually have a budget and stick with it. As for the space, it is beautiful. Our reception was so amazing and the space exceeded my expectations. We set-up for 135 with family style tables on the bottom and used the top as well for seating. The tables and dance floor were in the main room and all of the drinks, food, gift table, and photo booth were on the other side. I highly recommend this venue! I just planned our Employee Holiday Party at Luce Loft and it was the best venue. The space is beautiful - an open floor plan, huge open kitchen space, 2 large restrooms, and an up stairs area. Zach was extremely helpful throughout the entire planning process, always available to answer any questions and emails. The load in and load out process was a breeze, and one of Luce Loft's staff was there to oversee the entire thing.
