This review is for a 90th birthday event in 2022. We've been returning to the Club for various venues for several years. It's only fitting to return due to the ease of planning and executing a party with guests enjoyment. Most communication is done via email with exception of the initial canvass. Here are the reasons why a 5 star review. *5 good balance of outdoor/indoor space (nice city view) *5 flexibility in using any vendor *5 hard liquor, wine, champagne and beer allowed, no alcoholic shots *4 parking, about a dozen onsite parking, but plenty of street parking *5 standard rental agreement requiring event insurance, indemnity to the Club as additional insured, liquor certificate insurance, 10 am - 10 pm event use. They have free card tables and chairs if you are having a casual event. We used a vendor the Club recommended for banquet tables, white chairs, and linens. I think he actually had a trailer on sight with the furniture so his setup and take down was seamless. My nephew enjoyed the venue so much, he is having his wedding there today; 2 years post birthday event. I highly recommend. read more

I'm assuming an attendees rating could vary greatly from a host's rating as the needs are very different. As an attendee - the restrooms were clean and adequately stocked, the facility seemed clean and well kept, the view is phenomenal. Our wedding here was fabulous! If you are familiar with this area you know that Kate Sessions is famous for the view of South San Diego (and on a clear day TJ), but what some of you may not know is that right across the street is a fabulous venue called The Soledad Club. First things first, this is not a place where you might hold a "Platinum Wedding" as there are really no frills. It's a DIY place (do-it yourself) and you get what you put into it. We had a wonderful wedding and really did minimal work to the interior to make it ours. They provide a reasonably priced, functional house, transformed into a Bridge Club during the week and wedding/anniversary/birthday venue during the weekend. It is owned by the city and operated by a lovely woman, Renee Hirsch. Renee is great - she is friendly, responsive and organized. She also works with the French Gourmet and is a wedding coordinator herself. She is gracious enough to answer any questions you may have and will give you suggestions or some free advice if needed. The contract is simple, and deposit (which we received back in full 2 weeks later) was $1000. Our guests raved about the venue and the view, there is wrap around porch which we donned with paper lanterns, belly bars and candles. Inside is a little plain jane, but we dressed it up with some white Christmas lights and most of the decorations were from candles and the tables. We fit 120 people sitting for dinner and had plenty of room to dance the night away. Another awesome plus to Soledad Club is you have access to the hall as early as you need it, the morning of your event, noise restrictions make you end the festivities by 10pm, and they require you to be cleaned up and out by 11pm. We held our ceremony at 430pm, and the last song played at 930pm, we ended early but kept the party going at the hotel! Long story short, I had an amazing wedding day, everything was perfect and my new hubby and I were able to throw the party we wanted without breaking the bank! Bottom Line - If you are a bride who is budget conscious and love our fine city of San Diego, there is no better place to party with you and your closest 150 friends and family. read more

Across the street from Kate Sessions Park is a small recreational center that is open to the public for whatever function you may have. Apparently, bridge is popular. But you can also have wedding receptions, for example. I was at a wedding reception this weekend. The main room comfortably fit a little more than 100 people with a dance floor and an area for the buffet dinner. There was also an open area by the entrance for people to stand and mingle, plus there was the outside balcony/patio area. If you want to see the view, check out the pictures I uploaded. The photos on the website are true to the real space and how it looks. There is no a/c; only overhead fans, so keep that in mind for summer events. Also, the lot is small, so if you are having a large event, some people will need to park on the street. Rental information is listed on the website. This place is recommended if you want a great view for a nice event. read more

My husband and I got married at the Soledad Club on 11/10/18 and it was a beautiful day to have rented out a space with such amazing views of the ocean! For this review though I was torn between 2-4 stars... why because some parts of it were amazing and others were more of an annoyance. So this is how I will break it down: 4 stars for the venue: By far it is the most reasonably priced, large space, with the most BEAUTIFUL views. We were able to rent the space for 12 hours, with some time before for set up and time after for break down. We used the outside space to get married, had the ocean in the back drop, and the views from the upstairs balcony were to die for. I loved it. Its the reason we chose this venue. And I looked around, any other site that is similar, costs at least twice as much. We got a lot of bang for our buck! Downsides of the venue: There are a LOT of activities scheduled all the time! From yoga to card games and other events, scheduling our walk throughs and dropping off our items the day before took some energy to find a time where we would not be in the way of others. It wasnt impossible, but it was a challenge. 2 stars for working with their onsite manager and coordinator Renee Hirsh who also happens to be a wedding coordinator. While in the process of renting the space she attempted to sell us her coordination package which was about 400$ less than the other coordinator we were meeting with and considering. Spending that extra 400$ to go with the other coordinator was the best choice we made in our wedding. Renee proved to be slow to respond to things, we had submitted our initial paperwork to her to save the date of our wedding and then I texted and emailed many times, with no response for almost a week! I was freaking out that something happened to our date! We did not chose her as our coordinator and when we were on site once to meet with our rentals guy, a couple showed up to see the space and she stood them up! She also was pushing catering through another company she works with and I just felt that there was a bit of a hard sell, and I wasnt about that. I loved the venue but working with Renee was a challenge. Ultimately our contact with her in regards to using the Soledad Club was limited, but she was on vacation during our actual wedding, so we didnt even see her on the day of, which was fine by me! I would probably have made the same choice regarding our venue in retrospect and the space itself is amazing and very reasonably priced, but you just have to know that you will need to manage your contact with their staff to get things done answers to questions, etc. read more

Got married here in November 2014. Was so excited when I found this venue. It is by far the most bang for your buck as far as wedding venues in San Diego. The views are incredible and the flexibility of the venue allows you to have either a relaxed, laid-back wedding or fancy. We had the ceremony on the outdoor patio and the reception indoors. Renee was great to work with and Mario who was in charge of rentals did an outstanding job. He saw my vision and made sure everything was exactly as I wanted. By far the most affordable wedding venue in San Diego. (Believe me, I did a TON of hunting and research and was so excited to have found this venue). read more

A little confusing to find but once I realized that it wasn't the park across the street I was good to go. What a gorgeous view. So happy it was a clear day. So Clear you could see all the way to the Coronado bridge. Once we went in, there was a red carpet for us to walk on and we were greeted by lovely ladies in traditional Hawaiian clothing and given a colorful lei and a delicious Mai Tai. To the right was a cute little setup with mermaids. I wanted to take a picture of them but they asked if I waould like to take one with them. Of course I would. I grabbed a prop and took my photo. The smells wafting from inside was so yummy I couldn't wait to try some. (I was hangry so I forgot to take a photo). The entertainment was super cute and so many vendors to choose from first. I made my way around to several vendors and conversed until my tummy was talking to me and everyone around me. I scarfed down the Hawaiian chicken, rice and macaroni. Oh so good. Thank you so much for such a great evening of fun! Can't wait to do it again next year. read more

Came to Soledad Club for a wedding and I got to say it is the best small venue I have ever gone too. Great parking options and easy to get to. The view from the deck overlooking Pacific Beach is phenomenal. Definitely a great perk. Also, there is a good amount of space for the cocktail bar/lounge as well as separate large area for the actual dining. No complaints about the property. If you are getting married and plan on having a small group of attendees, I would recommend checking this place out. As a guest, must admit that it was very impressive. read more

The Soledad Club was our first stop in the task of finding a wedding venue for my daughters wedding. It is close to home for us. Renee showed us around and explained the rules and rates. The Soledad Club is a beautiful venue for a wedding. The main reception room is large and accommodates vendors and guests. It's a silly detail, but the floor plan is perfect for easy set up and take down. There is a small kitchen, plenty of restrooms, a stage and a downstairs "bonus" room. I used the downstairs for the bridal party to get ready. It worked out great. The views are exceptional day and night. The rental rate is very affordable for such a great venue and view. I highly recommend taking a look at this place first! read more

This review is about the wedding coordinator, RENEE HIRSH: My husband and I booked Renee a year and a half before our wedding date. Just having the initial meeting with her, I knew that she was the one I wanted to coordinate my wedding. Renee was full of energy and was eager to make the whole wedding planning less stressful. I already knew the design of my wedding (centerpieces, design, cake, etc) and I just passed my ideas to Renee. She accomplished everything that I wanted for my wedding day. She goes above and beyond keeping in touch with you, taking about ideas, getting in contact with the vendors, and even asking how you're doing. Her "day of" coordinator services are far more than the day of. She is there from the first day you book her :) You won't go wrong with Renee. She's amazing! read more

Large and spacious salon, scenic views of Mission Bay and Downtown, wrap around balcony, etc, loved it! Mind you, it was a small wedding. My husband and I are both from the east coast originally and have lived together in PB for the past 5 years. When planning our wedding, we wanted our friends and family who were traveling to San Diego to get a chance to see our beautiful city. The Soledad Club was the perfect venue for a wedding with a view! Located directly across the street from Kate Sessions park, we were able to have our wedding party photo shoot at the park then have a more private experience at SC where we held both the ceremony (held downstairs asphalt space w/ built in arbor) and reception which was held upstairs. Renee, the site manager was super helpful and responsive throughout the entire planning process. We found the space to be very reasonably priced for a 12 hour rental (~10am-10pm). The 'a la carte' option allowed us to pick and chose our vendors. We're big on supporting local businesses, which also made our wedding very affordable. I definitely recommend hiring an event designer for decor as the interior space is pretty bland as is. We incorporated chiffon draping from the ceiling and up-lighting which really helped to transform the ballroom area. We also had the option of bringing in any other decor that we wanted so we were really able to personalize the event which made it even more special. A lot of the personalization came from DIY decorations and props; we set up a 'photo booth' backdrop and brought in our own custom centerpieces and signage. The maximum capacity for the venue is 200 and we had 150 people at our wedding, which felt appropriate for the space and not too crowded. We also rented the downstairs 'bridal suite' which was the perfect place to hide out while guests arrived before the ceremony. We had the ballroom space upstairs set up for dinner with round tables and converted the front section of the venue into the dance floor which worked out perfectly. A requirement for the bar was that it must be located outside, which was fine because it gave guests an opportunity to get some fresh air and take in the incredible views of San Diego. If you have a summer event, Renee suggests the perfect way to send off your guests with the SeaWorld fireworks. This worked out perfectly, we had a sparkler exit, then watched the fireworks show which was completely visible from the parking lot of the venue! After the show, all guests had exited the premises by the 10pm curfew so it was excellent timing. In summary, I can't imagine a more perfect place to have had our wedding. Our guests raved about everything from the venue and the view to the food and booze options, It was truly the best day ever! read more

We were married here on 12/12/12! It was absolutely beautiful! We had the ceremony down at the gazebo at sunset. The scenic view is stunning! The reception was upstairs with a view of all of Pacific Beach, the bay and the ocean. I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Renee from "A Perfect Day by Renee," was helpful and knowledgeable. I knew everything would be taken care of with her at the helm. Mario from Best Rentals was a sweetheart to work with. This is a beautiful place to have a wedding! The view is amazing and the back parking lot works great for added space. And the price was so reasonable. My daughters wedding was magical. But... get ready to bring everything in and transform the place! And if you are given the option, do NOT use Mario from Best Rentals. He may give you a better price but he overcharged us $300 and admitted it and then ignored repeated requests to pay it back. He was impossible to get a hold of during the planning process, did not return calls, did not provide any updated invoices until THE DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING (hence the overcharge that we didn't notice until 2 days after the wedding)! It is a done deal now but I can let you know that I would NOT recommend him and they offer his services when you rent the Soledad Club. Go with another rental company - save yourself an additional stress during an already exciting (and stressful) time! read more

We got married here in July and was a perfect choice for our wedding. If you're a do-it-yourself planner this is a great choice. We had 150 guests and had a standing ceremony downstairs and the reception upstairs. Renee was very helpful and even had a connection to rent some extra tables and chairs with no delivery charge to the site. We had our wedding here in March and it was a beautiful and memorable event. The weather was perfect so the views from the outdoor patio at the Soledad Club were amazing. This is a great venue because it comes with the amazing view but you are allowed to bring in any caterer, band, DJ, décor, lightning, etc. We even had our alcohol delivered by BevMo then hired bartenders to save money. Also, if you decide to have a wedding at Soledad Club then I highly recommend that you also work with Renee Hirsh, wedding coordinator. We hired Renee and she is amazing! She did an excellent job with coordinating the vendors, timing the music and setting up the décor and reaching out to the photographer, and caterer. Spectacular views of the bay/beach and downtown from the wrap-around porch, spacious and plenty of parking. Conveniently located across the street from Kate Sessions Park in Pacific Beach. You can use your own catering, bands, bar, etc. There is a noise ordinance, so we ended the event by 9pm. Will definitely keep in mind for other events in the future. read more

We had our wedding here recently, and it was beautiful. They were very cooperative, and very easy to work with. I highly recommend it!!! My only regret is that I did not hire Renee as my coordinator. She was so warm, friendly, responsive, and helpful throughout the wedding planning process. Great views of San Diego, and the price was amazing compared to some of the other venues we had researched. Plus, we were able to have our wedding in Kate Sessions Park across the street which allowed everybody to walk across the street for the wedding reception. Since San Diego has a big wedding industry, it can be really hard to find an indoor venue capable of hosting a large party within a reasonable budget. In my search, this was by far one of the most affordable with the most versatility. The building itself is well kept and though may seem very blank(if it's not decorated when you go in) but that makes it easier to personalize how you want it to look and set up your event. It has a great view of the bay area and is a great location for the summer because of the cool breeze. We got married in June 2017 and booked this place 1.5 years out.Sometimes the staff can be slow to respond, but they were good with answering all of my questions when I did have them. read more

I loved that it is a blank slate that you can decorate however you wish- not to mention the fabulous views!! In the fall I accompanied my daughter and her future husband for a tour of the Soledad Club by Renee Hirsh. The venue's location and view were perfection. We loved that the space could be set up in lots of different ways and the price was right! Being able to add the room below was a bonus. The fact that we could bring in our own vendors was exactly what we were looking for. The décor needed some fancying up but I had that, I have had a long career as a decorator. I have also thrown a lot of good parties and was sure we could pull this one off on our own. Hiring a wedding coordinator was not something that we were even considering for this wedding. Then we met Renee! As we talked with her that day, it became obvious to all of us that her expertise and personality could make the 'day of' even better. We wanted the bride and groom to be carefree on their wedding day. For me, as mother of the bride, I wanted to lighten my load on the big day so I could enjoy it all. We booked the venue and hired Renee to help coordinate things for a spring wedding. We knew this was a good idea but none of us had any idea how absolutely AMAZING Renee was going to be. From that first meeting to the 'week of', she was great in every way. Advising, guiding, sharing resources, and meeting again with us along with our vendors to fine tune our plans. When the 'week of' came, she was a marvel, helping with vendors, adjusting and readjusting to our last minute changes, and helping us work out all the final details. She brought it all together. At the rehearsal was when I realized that Renee was elevating all of our months planning into something even more special than any of us could have imagined. On the 'day of' I saw her in action. Renee was more then on top of it, she oversaw everything; set-up for reception & Kate Sessions ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner reception. Plus, Renee offered other services we took advantage of, so add to that; drink service, bartenders, and servers as well as clean up! Her pro staff was wonderful. Renee hustled from the beginning of the day until the very end. She was creative, resourceful, kind and fun the entire time! It was "A Perfect Day with Renee"! Everything about this wedding and reception far surpassed our expectations. We heard over and over from our wedding guests that this was the best wedding they had ever been to! Renee is the one that put it over the top! Our bride and groom and their families will be forever grateful to her. I had my small wedding there last year (70 people). Venue has amazing views and functionality. It has 2 large rooms, where one is used as a ball room and second one for the cocktail hour. There is a lot for the ceremony downstairs and a wraparound balcony with phenomenal views. People still complement us on the beautiful location. This venue is a complete do-it-yourself place. However, coordinator Renee can hook you up with a all necessarily help (bartender, wait staff, caterer and DJ suggestions). She also introduced us to Mario with Best Rentals who took care of tales and chairs, linens, napkins and amazing drape decorations for a very reasonable price. If you are creative and would like to make your own wedding that will be memorable because of all the work you put in yourself and save a ton of money, then choose Soledad club. read more

I've been giving five stars to all the vendors who made my May 2010 wedding so memorable and pain free. The Soledad Club was a great choice, I am thrilled we went for it although the price was more than we had originally budgeted for. I once lived close by and would frequent Kate Sessions, go for walks up Mt Soledad. But it was a friend who went to a wedding here who suggested we check out the SC, I never knew it existed. When my parents saw the view, they were sold. I was happy to find something that would very comfortably accommodate 120 guests that had a stage (ended up hiring a DJ and my cousin's kids gave us a great dancing show up there), wooden floors so you could make any size dancefloor you want, and a great kitchen for the caterers. Ample parking for guests was huge, too. The huge porch allowed for a birds eye view of the ceremony, great mingling, and a pretty sunset view. We had planned to say I Do at the park, then walk across, but turned out to be a massive "frat party" there, so we utilized the downstairs wedding arbor and still took some photos after in the park. The last minute change worked out great. Facility was clean, secure, and all around a big win. read more

Soledad club was our reception venue for our November wedding. We wanted a venue in the Pacific Beach/Mission Beach area and Soledad club was the most reasonably priced. It boasts a great view, a beautiful wrap around porch, and a large venue space. The only downside was having to end our reception by 9:30 because of the noise ordinance but that is obviously not their fault. We were able to rent the room underneath the club for an extra $100 which allowed the bridal party to get ready there beforehand and great place for our young guests to play and nap during the reception. They partner with Mario of Best Rentals and wave the delivery fee for this venue. We hired Mario for tables and chairs as well as the ceiling draping and side lighting which really softened the room and created a romantic ambiance. Since we did not have our ceremony onsite, we used the space for cornhole and some other outdoor activities. Working with Renee, the coordinator at Soledad club was easy and she was very helpful and responsive. I've recommended this venue to other engaged friends and already know of one that has booked it. After all, the view really is unbeatable! read more

We had our wedding reception at the Soledad Club in August 2011 It is a very simple, affordable, 'do it yourself' kind of venue. It was an AMAZING view. It was absolutely perfect for our wedding. It had a deck that wraps around the building where everyone enjoyed watching the beautiful ocean view and the sunset. At 9:50 the fire work show from SeaWorld goes off over the bay; it was a wonderful close to the night! We very happy with the Soledad club as is so affordable, very spacious, and just an overall great place to have our wedding. Most of the 'beach locations' we were looking at were around 20,000 to have a room for a few hours (while there were 8 other weddings going on in the building). At the Soledad Club you get the whole property all day. And they even let us come in Friday night (our wedding was Saturday ) to set up that way we didn't have to worry about it the day of. We also appreciated that you could bring in your own caterer at the Soledad Club. A lot of venues you pay 20,000 to use the facility and then on top of that they make you use their catering services which is often $80 a plate. The woman who deals with weddings there is very helpful but is very busy so you just have to be persistent at times. She almost always responds very quickly. We highly recommend the Soledad Club for your event! read more
