Booked this hotel on hotels.com a week in advanced and selected the "suite" room, which said it included a jacuzzi, so my group was sold.
When we arrived, we parked right in the middle of the hotel where the parking lot is located. The reception is upstairs from the parking lot on the main floor. We were greeted and helped quickly by the man behind the desk, who told us that we paid for a suite, but that there would be no AC or TV in the room. It wasn't a deal breaker, but we were kind of bummed as we paid more for this room and were told it had all the amenities on hotels.com.
We were escorted to our room by a staff member, and we were taken to the room named "Ambassador" which is apparently the nicest and most prestigious room. Given that this hotel is older, in Tijuana, and not a name-brand hotel like Hilton or Marriott, we weren't expecting much (we paid around $95 including taxes for one night for this particular room. The other rooms were going for roughly $40).
As we walked in, we were blown away by the size of our rooms! Yes, there were actually 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, along with one largish entry living room. The hotel staff member dropped off our bags and tried turning the TV on for us in which it no channels were coming on. He tried turning on the second TV and basically just told us that they don't work and that he apologizes for that. He showed us the bathrooms and as soon as we walked in the first one, we noticed the whole shower area was blocked off and was under construction meaning we couldn't use that shower. Also, the jacuzzi itself had an "under construction" sign taped around the faucets so we were worrying that the jacuzzi wouldn't work either. The jacuzzi wasn't really the cleanest one I've seen either, but I figured if it was broken, then we wouldn't be using it anyways. In the other bathroom, the toilet actually had some nasty vomit looking liquid under the seat cover so we didn't use that one at all. The shower in this bathroom literally didn't work either! SERIOUSLY?
As we settled in, all of a sudden we heard our door being opened, and we started to freak out! Granted, they were apparently trying to knock at first but we couldn't hear it because we somehow got the TV to work (which drowned out any noise in the entry room). There was a hotel staff member literally opening our door! That is not good, and quite scary. They definitely should've called us or something. The man said that we was trying to see if the room was occupied. Weirdest thing ever! And going back to the TV thing, although we were told they didn't have TVs or an AC at check out, they in fact did! We got both TVs to work (and they actually had a good selection of channels) as well as turning on both AC units with no problem. For some reason, the one of AC units turned off in the middle of the night and in my room I woke up to an extremely warm room. I was sweating! That AC didn't work anymore and we found out it was because the guys were literally working on the TV system in the morning right above us on the roof so they shut he power off for the AC unit. At 9:30am they were making so much noise above us that it was impossible to sleep in.
Literally, everything we dealt with in our room annoyed us so much that we decided to leave earlier than we planned. We did have the included breakfast which was surprisingly decent (pancakes, eggs/ham combo, some kind of tortilla chip breakfast meal which tasted amazing), fruit, cereal, and some sweet drinks/coffee. Honestly, the comfort of the beds/pillows and the included breakfast were the only things we actually enjoyed. Everything else was just an inconvenience or problem for us.
I wouldn't stay here again--at least not in the ambassador room. The regular rooms looked much better and modern (especially for the low prices).
By the way, the WIFI sucked! At least from our room it did. read more
