This is my favorite place to stay in Chico. My husband and I stay in Chico 1 week a month and staying at this hotel makes a required trip feel like a vacation. Just a few awesome things about the place: Staff: The staff here are actually genuinely happy to see you, they don't act like they hate the world when you walk in the door. When we stay here we get a card addressed to us thanking us for staying with them again. A waitress in the restaurant even remembered me after my 2nd stay there a month later! The front desk staff, cleaning staff and restaurant staff are warm and welcoming. A cleaning lady even knocked on my door for housekeeping and when I said I didn't need anything, she persisted with "How about some bottled water? Or candies? I have candies!" Of course I want candies! Cleanliness: I feel like there are lots of places that use the age of the building as an excuse to let the place lapse into dingy-ness. (How can the staff at a place not notice the smell of urine and stale cigarette smoke?! Looking at you, Best Western Chico.) This hotel really does a good job of keeping the place in clean, comfortable order. The rooms are clean and very comfortably appointed. The carpets and furniture look spotless and the bathroom gleams. The building is old but it doesn't feel like a million people have stayed in your room, or peed and smoked in it. Bed: The beds here are so comfortable. They come with 4 over-sized pillows and a fluffy comforter. It's hard to get out of bed here. Amenities: The bath products in the room are Aveda and they provide makeup removing towelettes too. They always seem to provide free snacks in the room as well. There was a welcome packet of candy, granola bar and pretzels in our room this time. The internet speeds here are better than other places we've stayed and they offer not only offer a complimentary continental breakfast but you get coupons for free breakfast off the menu in their restaurant and a free drink ticket. And the restaurant is pretty good! Location: They are right in downtown Chico near tons of great local businesses and eateries. We never needed to take our car out of the garage because everything we needed was right around the corner. During the summer there's an evening farmer's market every Thursday right next to the hotel! My husband does claim a down side, which is that there's no onsite fitness facility but they hotel does provide a complimentary guest pass to an amazing looking health club called In Motion Fitness. It's a fitness "resort". Now that's how I wanna do fitness, not a down side for me. We haven't gone there yet but we will soon. And of course, running through the surrounding neighborhood is nice too. Basically, you should stay here if you ever find yourself in Chico, CA. Other things to check out nearby are the great produce stands as you drive into town, the exotic wildlife sanctuary and all the amazing restaurants here! read more

I booked this hotel for business travel and the plans changed. I called the hotel directly within 48 hours of booking to cancel the reservation and was told "don't worry" about receiving a refund. When I got back from my trip, I saw they had actually charged me in full for 2 nights! I called to request a refund and they referred me back to hotels.com (actually, they referred me to "Expedia" for some reason, which I've never used in my life). Hotels.com wouldn't issue a refund because the hotel told them that (1) I had not canceled (absolutely untrue) and (2) that they had called me before charging to confirm (also, untrue). I had my phone with me constantly- it was business travel and I needed to receive any important calls and I have a disabled child, so I am always reachable by phone. In any case, just know that, if you book this hotel.... consider it NON-REFUNDABLE no matter what the hotel tells you. They will blatantly lie and claim you never canceled and charge you the full cost, regardless... and, hotels.com will apparently believe a hotel staff person over a long-term (many years, many bookings, many $$$) customer. They lost me as a customer today (AirBNB suits me fine and I've never had a problem like this booking there). I've filed a fraud claim with my bank and will also file in small claims court to recover the cost from the hotel directly, if needed. What a crappy way to do business in the "hospitality" industry where you'd think reputation matters. read more

Will never stay here again! Check in was at 3pm and our room was not ready until 3:40pm so we had to sit around and wait. There is no complimentary breakfast like there usually would be due to COVID, but you still pay the same price ($200/night!). Plus someone was smoking in the hotel that night and it smelled so strong in our room. The staff didn't seem to care about the bad service either. Only thing going for this hotel is convenient local to downtown Chico. read more

Stayed here Labor Day Weekend 2010 for a friends' wedding. We didn't want to be in the middle of all the college kid commotion that comes with that time of year so we booked at the Diamond hoping to get away from some of that. It was the right choice. A quaint, clean place that feels out of the way but is right in the mix of downtown as well. The bar area downstairs a perfect place to have some wine and meet up with friends. Continental breakfast was good, the A/C worked really well, the robes are a nice touch, they have room service and free HBO and are located next to a fabulous sushi spot. I would stay there again and again and would recommend to friends as well. Well worth the dime. read more

Best Hotel North of Sacramento!!! What a wonderful, clean, great location! and historical hotel!! This hotel blows all others in the area out of the water. It has complimentary parking, a bar, a restaurant, and complimentary breakfast! The breakfast is not just cereal and yogurt. They have a personal chef there to make custom omelets! The staff is top notch and willing to assist with anything from a fax to making reservations. They are extremely knowledgeable with restaurants, events, and directions. The location is in the heart of downtown, so everything is walking distance!!! Great for an evening on the town or an anniversary get away! Honestly, best hotel experience I have had in Chico and beyond!!! read more

The Hotel Diamond is a great hotel to stay for a weekend trip in Chico. I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past few years and have had a good experience ever visit. The rooms are clean and the staff are always helpful. You get a welcome card with your name on it in your room. They give complimentary bottled water and breakfast. It is located in downtown Chico so you can walk to great restaurants and bars nearby. There are no parking charges so you don't have to worry about where to find spaces available in downtown. I noticed that most of the times I've stayed here there were no young children, mostly singles, couples or adult family members. If you are looking for a hotel in Chico, this is a great choice! read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at this fabulous hotel. The staff really care about your comfort and want to make you happy. As soon as we checked in to our room we received a courtesy call from the front desk asking if everything was okay. It was more than okay. The room smelled so fresh like no one had ever used it. The furniture was beautiful and the bed was incredibly comfortable. It got a little warm in our room at night but it didn't bother us enough to turn on the cool air. My husband and I forgot our toothbrushes at home so we checked with the front desk not expecting them to have that kind of thing and literally two minutes later they were at our door with them. That was pretty impressive. The breakfast was a major bonus. The omelet was very filling and I really liked the muffins. Having free parking and being walking distance to everything was amazing. It really made our trip care-free. The next time we visit Chico we will be staying at this hotel. read more

Can't believe I haven't already reviewed this place. Hotel Diamond is BY FAR the best hotel in Chico. I have stayed here a couple times and this hotel is the cleanest and friendliest place hands down. I've stayed a couple times with my mom and she's pretty picky about rooms - the staff there have accommodated EVERY little request without so much as an inconvenienced sigh. We got there one night and were completely exhausted - the staff must have noticed because when we asked about a room and they were all full, they gave us one of those fancy suites up on the top floor but still only charged us for a regular room. FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE and this is definitely the place to stay. *If you're coming to Chico for something like orientation or parent's weekend, make sure to book in advance. This place fills up quick and you don't want to get stuck somewhere like the Holiday or Safari Inn - Ewwww! read more

We stayed over the weekend visiting family for a wedding. This is a quaint hotel and had good food. I did not find the customer service to be very good. The front desk person was very chatty with other staff and I almost felt like I was bothering her when I asked for an iron. She said it was supposed to be in my room, which it was not. She told me she would bring one up, but then went back to talking about personal things to her friend. I came back20 minutes later, found a maid and asked for an iron, which she handed me. The front desk lady saw this happen and said... I was just about to get that for you. Priorities? The breakfast was really good. The parking next door was ok. The shower and bathroom was very cramped. The bed didn't seem like a queen and was not that comfortable. I doubt we'll stay again. For the price, I could stay somewhere else and have a reasonable shower and bed. read more

Although Hotel Diamond is a lovely property, I can only give it two stars because they have no safe place to park. Anyone who stays here: Beware! They have a parking lot next store to the hotel that is a major target for the low life's that hang around downtown. Last night our car got a window smashed, as did several other guest's cars. And this is the 2nd time this has happened to us at this location. (And I've heard that it happens here quite frequently.) The first time our car was broken into, last year, we lost about $200 worth of property. We wrote an email to the hotel explaining that the lot is not safe and requesting that they hire a security guard for the parking lot. They didn't even bother to reply! We came back again anyway--big mistake! This 2nd time it's going to cost us over $600 to repair the window. Although the hotel is not technically libel, they are doing their guests a major disservice. They should invest in security if they want people to keep coming back to this hotel. Or provide different parking options that are secure. Unless you drive a beater car and take everything out of it and can leave it unlocked, you probably don't want to stay at this hotel. It's really too bad, because it's the nicest hotel in town. read more

This hotel is consistently clean, attentive, and convenient. A bit more than courtyard or residence in, but worth it. I really enjoyed staying here. read more

The staff was not very helpful. I stayed in room 309 and the key card did not work. Was sent up and down the elevator 3 times, until someone from maintenance fixed the problem. Came in from a day of work the next day and the key card had the same issue. I really wish there was a better option to stay at in downtown Chico. read more

Excellent service and one of the best meals I have eaten north of San Francisco. Pork Belly appetizer and crab cakes were delicious. My New York Steak with Prawns was excellent, cook exactly the way I ordered. No complaints here, definitely will return. read more

I have heard wonderful things about this hotel, and finally had the opportunity to stay here! It did not disappoint! The staff was professional and courteous, the room, especially the bed, was comfortable, and they pay attention to the small things. I cannot wait to stay here again! read more

I'm a big fan of Johnnies and the Hotel Diamond. The restaurant is great and the and the aatmosphere is the best in Chico by far. The dark wood and brick bring ambiance to the restaurant. The Ahi is really good and the drinks are great as well. They have a nice selection of scotch and after a few you can go up the stairs to your room with the best matresses I have ever slept on. They are so nice that we asked the front desk where we could buy the same types. Overall, I believe the best hotel/restaurant combo in Chico by far. read more

A nice place...not cheap by any means, but great downtown location. Rooms are nicely appointed and they offer DirecTV, but not in HD which is rather odd. Not that I spend a lot of time watching TV when I am in a hotel, so it didn't really bother me. Best part about the Diamond is that you can take an easy walk over to the 5th Street Steakhouse, drink a ton and eat a ton and stumble back to the room without worrying about being pulled over for a DUI, or endangering somebody's life because you are driving when you shouldn't. They have a nice bar at the hotel as well. Free parking in the garage next door, free cooked to order breakfast (your voucher is worth $10 bucks so anything over that amount you will pay) and free pass to a health club if you are so inclined. In reality, if you want a higher end downtown hotel in Chico then the Diamond should be your choice. read more

We arrived on a Monday which was quiet in Chico in the summer. As other reviewers have stated, there was a lackluster check in but whatevs. After poking around town, good lunch at upper Upper Crust and tour at Bidwell mansion, we decided to rest a while in our room before dinner. Happy hour downstairs was not happening as there was a "private event". Hubby talked them into selling us a pint so we could take it to our room & also snack on the caramel popcorn (excellent!) We didn't love the early morning garbage trucks (5?wayyy too early) but we had the room facing the street so we hear the worst of it. Nice big room though with comfy bed! The breakfast downstairs was enjoyable- great waitstaff!! Would go do the breakfast again. I'd probably try a different place next time but I really enjoyed walking around from here- location is A+ read more

I had a fabulous dinner at the Hotel Diamond Steakhouse in Chico last night. The food, service and ambiance were excellent. I had the glazed pork chop, tomato/burrata bruschetta and the Tommy's Surprise for dessert. Superb! If you're coming in or through Chico, schedule a meal here. Top notch! read more

I drove 3/4 the length of California to finally arrive here. I was told there would be parking, there was none. I arrived at 130am and they required me to check out at noon the same day. That's under 12 hours. This is their policy. If you check in at 1130 am you'll be able to stay for 30 minutes. No pool. No bathtub. No laundry. This opulence they think they perceive is like motel 6 without all of the decent things a standard motel has. Only for $150 a night. read more

Nice hotel! A lot of character to it, clean and the beds are soo comfortable. Would stay again, but it was a little pricey, but worth it.

Check-in was smooth, as was parking next door. The room was beautiful and the staff were pleasant enough. I would expect as much for $300/night room. The downer for us was during the night water started dripping onto the tile floor from the AC return vent. When I called the front desk, I was informed that there was nothing they could do, however he did offer to bring me a bucket. I declined and used the trashcan. He said the AC sometimes drips condensate. Odd that it would seem to happen often enough to know what it was. Anyway a sound night's sleep interrupted by dripping water. Once I turned the AC off, it dried up. I was disappointed when they didn't offer any sort of gesture to improve my experience. The breakfast at Johnnies next door was delicious and the coupons were appreciated. Overall, I would not stay here again, because at these prices, the AC should not leak at all. read more

Loved our stay, comfortable room and bed, lots of space, staff was excellent. Wish we could have stayed a second night but there was no vacancy. Two Twenty restaurant and bar next door was great too! Definitely stay here next time we are in Chico. Boutique style hotel with great service. read more

Beautiful old hotel. But beware of poor management. I recently had to cancel a reservation last minute due to the flooding and evacuation happening just south of Chico. I understand late cancellation policies, but this situation was out of my control. I left a message with accounting and management; did not receive a return call. It took 4 business days to send the receipt (via email) for the $50 charge. I hope that $50 is worth all the future business lost, as I cancelled my reservation for later in March. I have business in Chico 8-10 days a year, but Hotel Diamond will not benefit from that revenue stream. read more

Best hotel in Chico hands down with prices only slightly higher than the chain hotels in town. Old Chico elegance in the heart of downtown. Excellent on site restaurant. Great touches throughout. read more

Booked for a last minute trip to Chico. The hotel is in a cute area with food and shopping around. The hotel staff was amazing. So helpful. I stopped in way earlier than check in and they did everything but gave me the keys. They called me when my room was ready. That was really great! The room itself was lovely. Old world charm! They have 2 complimentary bottles of water in the fridge and a bag of caramel corn for your nosing. The only issue I had was the parking. The garage is not managed by the hotel. They give you a pass for your car and parking was easy-it's just behind the hotel. The elevator smelled-I told the hotel about it. They said they would take care if it. The Restaurant at the hotel is not open everyday- I think closed Monday. They give you a $10 coupon for breakfast. That covered a good portion of it. read more

We had a bad experience at this hotel last night and left disappointed this morning. After doing much research, Hotel Diamond seemed to be the best accommodation in Chico with a lovely location and felt that it would be a good place for our family to stay. Check in was easy and we were happy a crib was waiting in our room at arrival. All was good until early evening when the penthouse above us had a party. Beginning around 6PM we heard lots of noise and you could hear ladies with high heels walking above us on what sounded like wood flooring. Even though a struggle to get our 14 month old to fall asleep with all the noise at 7PM, we knew it was early so was okay with the party upstairs thinking the hotel wouldn't plan for such an event to run late into the night. Well it did and the noise only got louder and from our room it sounded like they were dancing above us with loud music and stomping. By 10:30PM we couldn't take any more as our son kept waking up with the noise and there was no chance of us sleeping through it. I went downstairs to speak with the front desk and was told there was a party above us and she'd tell them to be quiet. Thankfully it did calm down about an hour later, but we were still frustrated with the hotel knowing there was a party planned, yet still putting our family below them. The hotel wasn't full, so for the future I'd recommend the hotel not place anyone below the penthouse if there's a party. As we checked out this morning, the lady at the front asked us how our stay was. After telling her about the noise, she informed me that it's the owner of the hotel's private residence and he was throwing a party. Sadly, I don't believe that's how you should treat your guests and advise visitors to find accommodation elsewhere when staying in Chico. read more

My girlfriend and I stayed here for Valentines day. I reserved the king executive suite and also got the romance package which included dinner in the attached restaurant Johnny's. Our stay was fantastic. The staff was incredibly helpful and polite. Everything was setup when we arrived in the room. The room had everything we needed. From the flowers to the chocolate strawberries, everything was more than I could hope for. We then got the in-room massage and the gal did a wonderful job. Dinner was very tasty. We also had the brunch on Subsay morning which was even better than the dinner. The hotel catered to all my needs, which was more than I could ask for. The overall experience was definitely one I suggest to others! read more

Such a quaint boutique hotel. Great service from the moment we walked in the door. The front desk clerk Angela made us feel very welcome and knew a lot of history about the hotel. Our room was amazing, the bed is very comfortable and the location is perfect being in the downtown area near to everything. Highly recommend. read more

In this economy and this point in American culture it is rare to find any kind of business that is consistent in their service. A year later 15 of my colleagues and I returned to Chico for a conference and the Hotel Diamond felt like time stopped. Still excellent, still Pete in the dining room, still prompt, pleasant service at the front desk day and nigh, still perfect room service and excellent beds and pillows. After four years of an annual week stay I think I will just sell my vacation home and tell people Hotel Diamond is my preference. Going to Chico? Stay here. That's the bottom line. read more

Loved the modern design once you enter the door that leads to the bar and restaurant. I received wonderful greetings from the staff which sealed the deal to eat at the restaurant with my family during our weekend visit. The food and service was good. Stayed here in July. It was quiet and well-maintained. Staff was cool and helpful. It's the only place to stay if you want to be downtown or walking distance to the college. The staff was awesome, very clean and nice hotel!!! Very disappointing, we arrive a couple of hours after graduation, ready to celebrate with our graduate! Only to find the bar was closing, there were 9 of us, the bartender asked the management to stay open as he was eager to serve us, to no avail, we ended up walking down the street to the Argus and running up a $ 500.00 + food and beverage bill! Not understanding how an establishment could possibly NOT serve on graduation weekend! Further more, on Monday am,we tried to get a Mimosa's with breakfast, SORRY, the bars not open!!! Next year we'll be back in Chico for another graduation, we wont be visiting the Diamond! Oh and by the way, we only had 5 rooms!!! read more

All around, a quality visit! To start things off, they give you free drink tickets for the bar when you check in, along with a free breakfast at the restaurant (up to $10 each I think). Good stuff! The room was nice and included bottled water in the fridge, a coffee maker, HBO and an iphone charger. Service was impressive too. When the Mrs. realized she forgot her hair curler, she called down to the desk and they had one up to her in a minute or two. Very nice! They're in a great location downtown, with restaurants, bars and campus within walking distance. Parking is in a garage next door, with reserved spots on the bottom floor. Overall it's a quality place to stay in Chico! read more

Adorable boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Chico. Pricing is similar to several other area hotels but I feel like the value of this hotel is far beyond what you would get elsewhere. Complimentary drink tickets and breakfast. Excellent service. Great walkability to Chico restaurants and bars. Rooms can be small, but very comfortable and it never felt too small to us. We will definitely be back! read more
