Drive in movies are AWESOME. They allow our family to get out of the house and forget about Covid for a bit.

Yesterday night was my first ever drive in movie experience (Wonder Woman 1984) and it was what I…read moreimagined it to be (with a covid twist of course). I have never experienced it but I have thumbed through many old photos of drive in's and it always has always invoked this nostalgic feeling of old summer days and movies under the stars. Lakeport auto movies was opened in 1974 and is one of the handful of drive-in's left in California. Buying tickets online is easy at: lakeportautomovies.com. Prices are $25 per car plus a $3 book fee. When you get there, they can scan the ticket on your phone for contactless entry. Once you are in, you park between the yellow lines (yes the cars are very socially distanced!!). It can be hard to see in the dark but you look to park between the cones. Buying snacks are easy! Once you are in, you can order snacks on their website and you will receive a text message once your food is ready. You will need to wear a mask to check in and pick up your snacks at the snack bar. Here are a few tips to help first timers like myself: - The road driving up from down south (I was driving from Santa Rosa) is very twisty and windy on 175. It can be extremely hard to see in the pitch dark and yes, I did have a deer try to run out at me. - If you do not want to use your car FM radio you can rent a radio for $4 plus a $10 deposit and leave your ID as collateral. - Our car battery died after the movie (didn't think it was going to happen, its a newer car too) and luckily there were staff members ready to assist with jump starting your car!! THANK YOU guys for that!!! We were not the only ones, at least 6-7 other cars had the same issue afterwards. Not the best way to end a good movie but be prepared- bring a jump starter or better yet, your own radio so you can avoid draining your car battery. - SNACKS: 1 person can pick up per car. Pulled pork nachos are bomb! I thought the Large cherry iced slush was a small size and not LARGE as I had ordered but still good. Please fix the text messaging system. Right after I ordered, I got a text message saying my order will be ready in 1.5 hours (pretty much by the time the movie is over). I ignored it and got a text message it was ready 15 mins later. I also LOVE the fact they gave me a small clear trash bag to take with me so everything gets disposed easily afterwards. - RESTROOMS: Both portable potties and regular men/women toilet restrooms. The restrooms are in HORRIBLE condition. It is so run down and dirty. It definitely needs an upgrade. The door didn't even lock either. Everything in there is so old and gross. That was the only negative! Otherwise, enjoy your drive in movie experience. I would love to come again despite the twisted 35 mins of windy road through the mountains.

Five stars isn't high enough…read more I went to the Pageant Theater and even before I walked in, I noticed this place is on a killer block: a movie theater, vintage clothing store, hair salon and coffee shop all in a row. It's the perfect brick and mortar/ walkable town experience. When I went in, I felt like I was in a different era. The building itself has so much character and such a unique layout, I felt like I was Travis Bickle from taxi driver in that scene where he gets off his shift and goes to a movie theater after (but in a wholesome way of course). It's so assuring to know that places like this are still out there. If you're a Chico local or just blowing through the town, be sure to make a stop here because you definitely won't regret it. Can't wait to go back.

If you get there early, you can grab a seat on one of the big sofas on the front row. (You may want to bring a throw pillow or bulky jacket to provide lumbar support -- these are pretty tired, but still comfy if you have the right additional cushions.) Fresh, house-made popcorn. Plus, you can bring in coffee/beverages/eats from the cafe next door (when it's open). You can't beat the prices, especially because you're getting first-run international and independent films in Chico! My wife and I have now come to this cinema 2 times. The first time, the staff was incredibly rude…read morebut we just let it go. This time, I'm writing this review as the movie is playing. The audio has cut out now 3 times. It is a very popular movie playing so I would assume this just wouldn't happen. I also want to mention how incredibly expensive their snack bar is. A small popcorn is $7? This isn't an AMC or other big movie chain. It's Oroville, CA. Even their drink prices are on the higher end. It takes 2 minutes to google how much they charge and spoiler alert...it's 700% of what they buy their supplies for. Overall, not a great experience. I'd rather go to Chico's movie theater and enjoy no audio mess ups, comfier chairs, and an overall better experience. Also just want to mention that I know of at least 3 people who've had their cars broken into at this establishment. Absolutely insane.

We love this movie theater. It beats the big city, fancy theaters in Vegas, NYC or our city (SF) bc…read morethe parking is so easy and ample and even when it's busy, it's comfortable and calm. They have great matinee deals on Tuesdays (happens to be my day off each week) so I find myself here whenever I'm in town. The problems I have w the bigger cities movies, is that they're too big and crowded for me - and way too expensive. The prices here for the concession stand are very reasonable and the staff is so friendly! The bathrooms are really clean and have a lot of stalls, so unlike the big cities, I'm not ever waiting in a long line to use the restroom. The vibe is so relaxing, fun and comfortable. The last 10-15 years, whenever I go to the movies in the bigger cities, it kind of stresses me out lol -like, order tix online to be sure to get a seat or pick your seat online etc. I'm just over it and love how this reminds me of going to the movies when I was little in the early 80s. It's just a simple, well priced, good time. And even in the heat or cold, the parking is so close to the place that, unlike other places, I don't have to battle the elements and walk hella far fr the parking spot to the inside lobby. And inside is nice and small too- the big city theaters have become so huge it's so much walking and waiting in lines. Staff attitudes in the larger theaters are also not great, whereas, we've been coming here now for 5 years and are always met w the friendliest staff. I love this theater.

I was able to pre-purchase the tickets and choose out seats online which I love to do ( I hate seat anxiety) and you can even pre-purchase your food to be picked up in a little cubby by the ticket checker. I almost wish I had done that since the line for the food was so long but you would have to stand in line for alcohol purchases anyway. They sell beer and wine here along with all the standard cinema foods. I don't know if I will be back here but it was a good experience.

Really disappointed in the lack of consideration by the staff regarding their outside food policy…read more I take the bus here and often make an evening of it because the ride is about an hour each way. I get dinner and will sometimes do some grocery shopping, handle whatever else I have in the area before relaxing for the movie then heading home. The other day I had Mod Pizza which is right around the corner in the same shopping center. After dinner it was movie time and I had about half a pizza left in a to go box. The staff refused to allow me to take my left overs in to the theater. I explained my situation and I even told them I was willing to purchase a snack or a drink because I didn't want to waste the pizza but was still refused. Because I had purchased my ticket at the kiosk I had no other option but to throw away my left overs which was going to be my work lunch for the next day, a whole meal. I feel like their had to some level of nuance and understand when it comes to policies like this and a digression of maybe a manager. Really glad I didn't get groceries that day. With a community so long it's unlikely I will take the bus simply to only go to the movies and nothing else.., so it's likely I will be seeing many less movies if at all in this theater. I will say the staff was nice. I understand policies, I understand how customer service can be, they don't get paid enough to argue with people and I wouldn't put them in that position after hearing me out and still making the decisions to refuse me entry.
