Love this hotel. Staff is awesome. Great downtown location. Beautiful bar and restaurant. Great place to stay.

Great looking, comfortable and convenient... This would have been 5 stars with a room facing the street since a strange rumbling noise woke me up at 5! (Heat pumps from next building?). Otherwise perfect! read more

Nice hotel... But a disappointing room. My wife and I booked a room with a full bed through Expedia, which failed to mention the room was the size of a shoebox. This became a problem when our 12 year old daughter came with us at the last minute, and the clerk informed us there wasn't enough room for a rollaway bed. The place was sold out, so there were no other options on the property. When we suggested we might find another hotel, we were told we would be hit with a cancellation fee. Another hotel staffer helped me find a set of cushions we made up into a bed on the floor. I got the bill today and saw we were charged an extra $15, as if we had used a rollaway. To top it off, the full bed in the room had a wooden headboard and footboard, making it impossible for me the sleep without curling up. Anyway, it was a rough night for all. I went to the Hotel Diamond's Website tonight and saw that the room is described as "petite" and "cozy." I wish that information was provided to the third party booking sites. Again, it's a nice place, but be careful if you book a room at the lower end of the price spectrum. read more

The Diamond hotel is beautiful and in a great location but I had a really bad customer service experience. While planning my wedding I called 7 months ahead to try and reserve a block of rooms. Over the course 2 months I called over 8 times and left a message for the person who does wedding booking and never received a call back. Every time I called I was told by staff that I could expect to get a call back within the week but never received a single call. When I finally got through to someone, after two months, all of the rooms were already blocked for my wedding weekend. It was disappointing because I feel like if I had been called back from the start the rooms would have likely still been available. read more

On our way to visit the Berkeley Olive Grove in Oroville. The Hotel Diamond was the only nice hotel we could find in the area. The hotel has been recently remodeled and is very nice. It is very well located in Chico downtown and not too far from the Bidwell Park. Staff was very friendly and gave us a lot of tips of what to do and see in Chico. Parking is easy in a parking garage next to the hotel. Would definitely stay there again. Avoid the restaurant though. read more

All the other higher end hotels in the area are fine, the same as anywhere else except in Chico all are poorly located far from downtown. Diamond is right in the heart of old Chico, it is in one of the oldest large historic buildings in the area and has managed to maintain much of that historic atmosphere and fascination even though it's been completely rebuilt recently. Diamond may cost 10 to 15% more then the next best option but it's the ONLY one you will remember for a long time and if you care about the complete experience it's the only choice. Beyond that if you are looking for a truly spectacular romantic getaway the suites near the top have their own substantial private corner balconies, mood lighting, gas fireplace, on and on....simply unapproachable at any price anywhere near Chico....I really can't do it justice in this short space you have to see it for yourself. I will never forget my three day/night stay in one of those suites, it was everything and more than I hoped for. read more

I'm going to write a review about Johnnie's restaurant in the Hotel Diamond. It's such a wonderful place! It's prettily decorated, the staff is friendly, and you don't wait very long for the food. I go there for lunch, it's quiet, so you can carry on conversations. They have some pretty good deals there too. If you are visiting Chico, you have to try it. read more

Great food , beautiful environment , John Seid , Larry Peterson ; absolute world class music ! Ambiance ..? YES ! Love it

As good of food as you'll get in Chico. The ceviche is fabulous! The atmosphere only so-so....too bad you couldn't put Johnny's food in Crush 101 atmosphere. read more

We stayed here a few weeks ago. It's a beautiful Hotel. The room was clean and nicely decorated - it was also updated with granite counters in the bathroom and kitchenette. We even had a balcony with two chairs and table which was nice! The staff was friendly the entire stay! You also can't beat the location to downtown Chico. Once we parked for the weekend we never needed our car the rest of the trip! read more

My daughter used this hotel for her wedding party and guests. It was charming and the staff was incredible. Location perfect and walking distance for most everything . It was clean and beautifully kept and I highly recommend the food! Menu was diverse and food delicious! read more

Great service, very comfy beds, clean. Love it. Our regular stop for our annual Chico visit. Comp breakfast is quite good, just get down there before 9:30 read more

Nice older hotel with excellent service. Clean, decent bar and restaurant. Mattress was way too soft and no topsheet on bed makes adjusting to room temperature difficult - duvet and comforter too warm, but too cold with no covers. Continental breakfast was lacking, but you can use your voucher for $10 off full breakfast if you have time to wait. read more

I love the new breakfast menu, and the fact that they are now serving fresh orange juice in the morning!!!!!! The food has gotten a lot better. :) Still 5 stars for sure............ I am currently sitting in my hotel room at hotel diamond! read more

My sorority sisters and I stayed here for an alumni weekend... I love this place. They had a great breakfast included with the room rate that was really yummy. The rooms were big and comfortable... Great location... And I like the girls at the front desk they were always very friendly. I am staying here from now on whenever I come to Chico!! read more

Very nice. Quiet, super clean. Sure it's expensive but you get what you pay for. Great location too.

I LOVE this hotel. It's not a chain: no 48 cancellation fee, no card to hold a room. They are flexible and kind. It's high end, quiet and ultra safe. Free parking right next to the entrance, three blocks from CSU Chico and in the middle of downtown. Walking distance within minutes of everything. The staff is amazing: Any special needs, ask for Devon the manager--what a gem. The rates are astonishing. The rooms are super comfortable and it's a historic building with character. Great place. Great vibes. Local business. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. read more

Best place to stay in Chico! Right in downtown and you can walk to lots of shops and restaurants. While it has a more vintage decor it's pretty much brand new. The staff if very nice and accommodating. You also get a free breakfast at Johnnie's, which is nice! Johnnie's also has a really great happy hour. read more

Clean, comfortable and a great location in downtown Chico. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed for renovations. They did however provide a complimentary breakfast in the bar. It was not very good. We were there during a heat wave and I do have to say the hotel was cool and inviting. The staff was nice and helpful. read more

I loved this cute hotel! Everything was clean and nice. Spacious room with great amenities. Comfy bed and lots of pillows! The downstairs bar was a fun place to hang out with my colleagues, but it closes too early! The restaurant was nice for breakfast and the older gentleman that was working was so nice and sweet! The only complaint I had was that the lights in the hallway outside were super bright and shown through the spaces around the door. At least in my room it was hard to sleep with that light coming through without covering my face. read more

Admittedly, I'm a little torn about what rating to give Hotel Diamond. They definitely have some pluses, but also have some big minuses. Pluses: --They are easy to get to and are located near lots of nice restaurants and coffee shops in Chico --The beds are very comfortable --The bath products are all Aveda --The architecture is great and really evokes old California charm --The staff are extremely polite --Free internet and parking MInuses: --The online reservation system is flunky. I was sold a room type that wasn't actually available --The thermostats in the rooms are computerized and controlled by the management. Because of this, the heat/ac in my first room did not work properly. Either I had to turn off the system or it automatically heated the room to 78 degrees. Even though the staff knew that maintenance did not fix the problem, they did not bother to tell me when I returned to the hotel on my second night --The walls are very thin and I could hear the music in the suite next door as if it were the same room. --The complementary eggs at the restaurant for breakfast were overcooked read more

Loved my stay at the Diamond. Great staff, room was perfect (except for the brick wall view) and breakfast was good too. Best hotel in town. read more

Two nights we had the pleasure of staying in this fine hotel with such comfort and luxury. There was a large group of us which the hotel accommodated our requests to be near another as well as seat us in the best seats in their fine dining restaurant. Lovely people working in the hotel and restaurant. Loved the robes, slippers and comfy bed and pillows. We plan on being back next month. read more

Fantastic stay! I surprised my husband with an overnight stay and dinner with our children at the hotel restaurant, our only regret was it was just one night! From the easy check in our experience was quality. It was my husband's 80th birthdays, and the staff awarded us a upgrade on our reservation. The room was exceptional, very large and comfortable. The high ceilings and beautiful draperies make the room so regal. There is a gas fireplace facing a cozy couch, an attractive dining set allows for company games. The bedroom was enormous, attractive and comfy. You will find everything you need, robes and slippers are there to use too. I would encourage a visit to this beautiful hotel and enjoy the fine restaurant too. read more

A very nice hotel with wonderful staff, breakfast was quite good and service too. But here is the thing that happened to us... Accommodations for my daughter's wedding were booked, by me, with a credit card that was opened just for the wedding. Rooms were reserved with this card in about January, first and only time this card was ever used (then stashed away and forgot about until time for the wedding). Months later, Tuesday May 29, a message on my answering machine from Chase fraud unit. Wife ignores it saying "we don't have a chase account". Three days later, Friday's departure for the hotel, I get the card out, oops... is says Chase. There were two fraudulent charges made on the same day as the confirmation email notice sent by the hotel's computer to confirm our reservations; one to a dating and escort service, one to some glass company (a bong maybe?). It was a nose bleed trying to get our guests checked into their rooms with the card being declined and having to call Chase for every guest room that was checked in. It also made us nervous that because of this our guests were being asked to have their credit card information during their check-in so we felt compelled to share this information with them. Other than that, a very nice hotel. I'd go again, bringing cash. read more

We stayed when my friend's daughter was touring Chico State University. I chose Hotel Diamond because it was walking distance to campus. Figured the property would meet our needs but wasn't expecting much more than that. But -- WOW. An historic hotel, but not at all "creaky." Beautiful, very comfortable, perfectly restored with all modern conveniences. Really nice bath amenities, easy free parking at the garage next door. And the staff was as good as it gets! Everyone was over-the-top friendly and helpful. Often when I travel, I find that Internet access is weak in the guestrooms, and I have to go down to the lobby to get a strong enough signal to even read my email, let alone access the web. But at Hotel Diamond I was very pleasantly surprised to have strong Internet access even up in the room. This hotel has no flaws. And yes, it's a super easy walk to campus, to shops and restaurants downtown. I heartily recommend Hotel Diamond to anyone visiting Chico. read more

Our friends recommended we stay at Hotel Diamond when we were spontaneously passing through Chico on a motorcycle trip. Without reservations, we were offered a very nice room with a King bed and a bay window. No real view to speak of but that was okay. There were nice little touches like cold bottled water in the fridge, robes and slippers and dimmers on the lights. Guests get a parking pass for the garage right next door. We walked to a great dinner at Crush, which we'd recommend as well. For breakfast, we went downstairs to the restaurant. We had $10 each towards our meal. I got the Tofu Hash. As a vegetarian, I sure appreciate fresh veggies and tofu on a menu. It was filling and delicious and only cost me $1 due to the voucher! read more

best & classiest hotel in chico, Stay here it's downtown and it's historical.

We selected this hotel for our night stop in Chico becuase it looked cute. When we arrived we were not disappointed. No, the view wasn't great..but we were at the hotel to sleep not look out the window. The staff was efficient, friendly, and curteous. Shortly after getting settled in our room (with complimentary water and snacks..very rare these days) the front desk called up to be sure that everything was to our satisfaction. It's really quite a shame there are not more places managed as well as the Hotel Diamond. It was a very pleasurable experience! read more

Wonderful staff. Aveeno products. Great complimentary breakfast. I can't see myself going to Chico without staying at the Diamond. A great experience. read more

Two night stay while in town for business. Room was comfortable, but the windows let in a lot of street noise. TV in the room was satellite, and was difficult to operate - not a real integrated option. Never got the in-room Internet to work, either. But the breakfast option was great, parking was free and convenient, staff was friendly, and the location allowed walking to many downtown locations. Recommended. read more

Location, location, location is the key here. The hotel is a little dated, but clean and charming. Nice AM breakfast. Walking distance to everything, including Bidwell Park (a must-see), Chico State, restaurants, and shopping. read more

We stayed at The Diamond while visiting family. The hotel itself is cute. It has a certain charm to it. The room was clean and very charming and comfortable. I was disappointed that there is no on-site parking. I was also not pleased with being kept awake until nearly 12:30 am by partying college kids right outside our room. If you stay I would recommend requesting a room in the middle of the hotel versus on the street side. read more

This hotel is awesome. It does get pretty expensive but you get what you pay for. The beds are the most comfortable I have ever slept on in a hotel. The rooms are gorgeous and really make your stay great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming into the Chico area. read more

I was in the Chico area for the first time on a business trip and stayed here for one night. The hotel was very charming and had a great vintage feel to it. The concierge was friendly and got me checked into the room quickly. I was quite surprised to get a call from the front desk to make sure I was pleased with the room . I also liked the nice welcome card with my name on it in my room. The room was a bit cramped but the furnishing and service made up for it. Size was okay for one person. The complimentary robe and slipper was a nice touch. The restaurant in the hotel was good but service was lacking. I ordered food to take to my room and they forgot to provide me with utensils. The wait was too long. Overall, this is a very nice hotel. I would recommend this to anyone staying in the chico area. read more

I've been to Johnny's for both lunch and dinner several times, and I have to say it's really a mixed bag. Sometimes the service there is good, others times it's quite terrible. I have had a wonderful dinner there with a tasty and creative entree--then had a chicken salad for lunch that came out raw. I would advise caution if you are adventurous enough to try it. Make sure you have plenty of time and you may just get a nice meal out of it. Knowing the risks as I do, I tend to steer clear. read more

Bottom line: the best place to stay in Chico, and capable of standing on its own next to big city 4-star hotels. If you are heading to Chico, this is the place to stay. I went to undergrad in Chico years ago and, at that time, the height of hotel sophistication was the Best Western. Hotel Diamond has completely changed the hotel offerings in Chico -- finally, an enjoyable place to stay! I stayed here for three days for a wedding and really enjoyed my entire visit. I'll definitely stay at Hotel Diamond every time I come back. Pluses: * Reasonably priced -- a little more than other Chico hotels, but completely worth it and still quite affordable compared to big city prices for a hotel of comparable quality. * Free cold bottled water in the room-standard refrigerator -- a huge plus during the sweltering Chico summers. Also, free Wi-Fi and free parking in a covered structure adjacent to the hotel. * Super convenient location -- walking distance to all of downtown Chico, the CSUC campus, and lower Bidwell Park. * Friendly staff and 4-star service that reminds me of the Ritz-Carlton -- all staff members are clearly told to greet and interact with guests whenever they are in the same area. * Room service from Johnnie's, one of the better downtown Chico restaurants. * Gorgeously refurbished historic hotel building. * Aveda products, robes and slippers, mints on the pillow, check-in snacks, great showerheads, full-length mirrors in the rooms, DirectTV... Minuses: * Room service is not 24-hours and has an odd schedule at the beginning of the week because it is tied to the restaurant that occupies the same building rather than to the hotel itself. * No 24-hour housekeeping service: if you don't have your room serviced by 3:00 p.m., it doesn't get serviced that day. * The elevator is iffy -- I got stuck once and other guests who were in Chico for the same wedding got stuck once also. * The historic nature of the hotel means that the rooms are not cookie-cutter. I consider this a plus overall, but that does mean that some rooms are very small, some have smaller bathrooms, some rooms face a brick wall/ air shaft, etc. My room was great, if on the small side and facing a wall, but I could see where some might prefer knowing exactly what they are getting each time they visit. Altogether, I found Hotel Diamond to be absolutely top notch with 4-star service, gorgeous rooms and great little extra touches. There are some minuses, but they are really minor compared to the pluses. If you are going to be visiting Chico, this hotel is by far your best bet for accommodations. read more
